Dark red, almost black. Crimson edge. Looks younger than it is. Smells like pencil, blackcurrent and smoke. Dinstinctive blach current taste. Middle length. Low acidity. Needs some air. Still young.

Sadly this bottle was very tired, despite a pristine fill and cork. Nose held promise - sultry black fruit, cool wet clay, and a hint of vanilla. Palate is tired, showing thin, attenuated fruit - just a bit of blackberry jam, and astringent woody tannins.

Great place now. Real depth and complexity which is why Meyney, when left for a couple of decades becomes such a great value purchase. Perhaps not the greatest and one recent bottle was "flat" but nevertheless a real treat

This has developed into a terrific wine. I have 2023 down as the last year in the drink window, but that may not be the case. This bottle was definitely a little better than prior one.

I was a little concerned on first taste that this was too far gone - it was very tart and acidic and the nose was faint. After a couple of hours in the decanter, it turned out to be delicious with our beef tenderloin dinner. Time to drink the rest!

I might be selling the numerical rating a little short. Over the years I have had good luck with moderate priced Red Bordeaux beginning to outperform their price point after a long period of cellaring. This wine is one of those. It is a classic Saint-Estephe. I have 2023 down as the last year of the drink window, but detected no taste notes to suggest it is fading.

Same as with a bottle consumed about a year ago. Decanted for one and a half hours. Classic Saint-Estephe. However, this bottle might have been a little off from the last bottle. I have had these bottles in the drink now rack in my Wine Room. I believe that is the correct strategy.

Nearing the end of its window; patience has been rewarded. An aged wine that still tastes and breathes young. But drink up, don't think there's any upside to waiting.

This was last tasted 18 months ago and it is still holding up. It is fully mature and drinking at its best, but I concur with a fellow reviewer that this should really be consumed over the next couple of years to enjoy it at its best. St Estephe was the poster child of the 2003 vintage, and a little bit has rubbed off on one of its poorer cousins. Taste profile is as previous and minimal time in the decanter, or even a splash decant, is sufficient.

Decanted for two hours. This wine is in a great drinking window right now. I have 2023 down as the back end year in the drink window. I will stick with that. I would be pulling bottles of this one right now.

I had not had a bottle of this wine for 5+ years. The first two bottles were very unexciting. This bottle was what i had expected and hoped for....an inexpensive Bordeaux that begins to outperform its ratings after 10 years or so from the vintage. However, this one took more than 10 years to come around. It is in a great drink window right now.

Decanted two and half hours before drinking; served at about 17 degrees Celsius. Perfect cork and provenance. Great depth of colour; looks youthful and has lots of luster. Nose: black currants and a bit of char, but no alcohol "heat." Taste: good balance for an 03, lift, black fruits, warm St. Estephe profile, but really rather one-dimensional.
Honestly, this is a tough wine to judge. I really enjoy Chateau Meyney and have been fortunate to drink their 82, 83, 05, 09, 10 (and taste 14 & 16). To me, Meyney is always an over-achiever for the price point and clearly better, now, than its 1855 classification. The 09 is embryonic but amazing. The 05 and 10 will provide years if not decades of enjoyment for patient wine lovers. The 82 and 83 are entirely different styles from the wines produced now, but amazing in that they have so much multi-dimensionality and interest (but not viscous richness; in no way "plush" as defines their style now).
The 2003 is remarkable if judged against its peers in the vintage. It isn't over-ripe and raisiny which is a big plus. It has lift from solid acidity; great black currant fruit profile; richness and very good mouthfeel, a bit of charred smokiness. But, it just lacks savour and multi-dimensional depth. After the first glass, it is just more of the same--like a lot of 03s. Compared to 05 and 09, it is really rather one dimensional.
I can appreciate this wine given the heat wave that ravaged Bordeaux in 03, but I can't say that I "like it" or would seek it out to drink or to serve to guests.
So, how does one score this wine . . .?

After the disappointment a day earlier with the 1997 vintage I opened a bottle of Ch Mayney 2003. It did not disappoint, even though slightly past its peak. The color was good. Lot of berries and fruits. The length was good and had the sense of velvet. After a while in the carafe it opened even more and secondary flavors started to show.

From a magnum. Cherry stone, raspberry and tar on the nose. Very austere palate, cassis and red currant. Bell pepper and green secondary notes - this feels slightly off for a relatively good vintage. This seems to be at peak - interesting to see if this would improve further from here.

Full bodied, only black fruits but esp. considering the vintage not overripe and very fresh, as a lot of Saint-Estèphe in 2003. After some time in the glass the bitterness starts to show too much. At first the elegant acidity provided a lot of freshness.

The last time I tried it was five years ago and it was quite tight, but enjoyable. Nothing much has changed - it was tight and narrow on opening, so I double-decanted it, which gave it the little spank it needed. Ripe, but not overripe cherry and blackcurrant aromas, even if the latter veered towards crème de cassis, with a spot of leather and liquorice. The attack was sweet and fruity, tongue-tinglingly so, if still a little narrow and bottle necked, but without any hint of raisins or syrup, before broadening into a second section of fruit cake and a much more open finish of creamy but fresh blackcurrant. Very youthful, if not quite primary, this will improve further.

Bottle 3 of 3. Very consistent performance, this was a great QPR. Classic St Estephe profile, nice structure and minerality just under a more purple fruit core. Gave this a splash decant for about 90 min before pouring and that was just right. Nice balance in the glass. Fresh currant and a touch of granite in the nose, then a nice silky palate. Poured with a hangar steak dish. If these popped up on the market somewhere I'd be buyer as they still have several nice drinking years ahead.

2003 was an exceptional year for St Estephe, and a little of this rubs off on the Meyney with it punching above its weight. Fully mature, it is an early developer, full of berry fruits and cedar on the nose. There is good balance on the palate, but is perhaps a little one dimensional. As mentioned previously, the finish is disappointing with a decent length, but unbalanced and acrid towards the end. Overall this is a great value wine drinking well now. I probably would not see this as a wine for the long haul, and I look to consume my remaining few bottles over the next couple of years.

I drank this via the coravin & didn't give any glass more than a couple hours to open up. Bordeaux's usually not my thing, but I remember liking this a lot more 2+ years ago. Maybe an off bottle, maybe it's clamping down?

This took awhile to open up so I think it seems to be in a slightly closed phase. After some air this is showing beautifully with complex earthy aromas of graphite, cedar, cassis, and lavender. The palate is approachable with good fruit density, fresh acidity, and firm tannins. There is some nice complexity to the finish. Will probably check in on another bottle in a couple of years.

Drank over two nights and was enjoyable, with more earthiness showing day 2. Pleasant wine with very fine tannins and medium finish. Wine feels like there are a few more years left, but unlikely going to improve.

Double decanted. Surprisingly creamy and buttery with blackcurrant, cedar, leather, warm spice on the nose. More savoury on the palate with chalky tannins, black hued fruits. With time a little baked dusty earth and bay leaf. nice if not, arguably, a little worked.

Fully mature, I notice I've scored this on a descending scale over the last couple of years. It seems that this is one St. Estephe from the vintage that needs to be drunk earlier rather than later to appreciate it at its best. The nose is full of dark berry fruits and cedar, and is very appealing. A lightness of depth has developed on the palate, but with good balance. The finish is the Achilles heel of the wine, but overall it is a pleasant drink, but one to consume over the next couple of years. Minimal decanting time is needed.

Dark, purple color, fresh scent. Two hours after opening this wine still shows astonishly freshness and youth, which is even more surprising if comparded to other Medocs from this hot vintage. On the palate fullbodied with mellow tannins, very generous fruit and pretty long. Lacking some complexity to be really great, but charming and almost exhuberant. Bought this en primeur in 2004 and every bottle was a pleasure up to now. Very good performance for the price. Best now and won´t improve. Drink up until 2020.
The site is close to the river and thus this Chateau never disappoints in hot years.

Ready to drink with minimal time in the decanter recommended, this wine is fully in its drinking window. Possessing a deep fruit driven nose primarily of red cherry with additional background aromas of blackberry and cedar, on the palate the tannin is quite gripping but balanced well. It is a little one dimensional on the palate and the finish is on the short side. It is however an excellent Meyney and possibly one of the best of its vintages drinking at present, and also remembering that St Estephe was the star in 2003. A word of caution; unlike its other St Estephe siblings of the vintage, this has evolved rapidly and I now find it can fade in the glass, and will look to consume my remaining bottles over the next couple of years. Indeed I would have scored the wine a couple of points higher if judged purely on the first glass.

There are a range of views on this wine as per below. Mine was highly enjoyable but not at all what I expected. Dark crimson colour not showing the brown rim at this stage. Nose clearly cab blend but sweeter and not much of the traditional bordeaux cigar box, more American or Tuscan. This was confirmed by the taste which was sweeter than expected with vanilla and raisin hints and a long but not exceptional finish. Tannins v smooth. Probably a result of the super hot vintage. V pleasant now and will drink fine over the next 5 years

This wine was excellent. An amazing nose of mature dark fruit complemented by Asian five spice, soy like umami, and fresh leaves. The palate showed wonderfully integrated tannins, a long finish, and just enough acid to make your mouth water. As the bottle opened up over an hour the fruit expand and added spiced black cherry and craisin elements. My favorite Meyney this year after having the ‘96, ‘00, and this ‘03.

Splash decanted and consumed over about 90 minutes. Classic St. Estephe profile. Cedar backdrop, graphite, red currant, black currant. Nice construction. Open and enjoyable aromatics, but held nicely in the glass throughout. A restrained cab profile, and that was a good thing. Good value and should continue to drink nicely for a stretch longer. Was happy I opened this. Paired with Steak Frites.

Pnp. Much less convincing than several bottles 3-5 years ago. On the nose a clear kirsch note which does not belong to Bdx for my taste. While still fairly juicy on the palate, there are burned fruit notes and again the kirsch I dislike. Would drink up as I doubt these undesired flavors will disappear over time

This has reached full maturity and can be enjoyed to the full. In many ways the embodiment of the 2003 vintage without the finesse of the great wines from that year, it is full of fruit with a nose dominated by blackberry and cherry with a touch of cedar. The tannin is smooth but firm in the mouth balancing the hit of dark fruits. A good harmonious finish if a little clipped. A great wine and very approachable but probably needs to be consumed over the next couple of years whilst its at its best.

Completely dense plum colour; lovely berry spice on nose, which remains a little closed; very solid taste = soft integrated fruit and oak, rustic and solid, with just a little acidity. No real complexity but good mouth-feel. A satisfying wine, and a classic bourgeois from St. Estephe

Last tasted a little over two years ago. Like last time, the nose is the best part of the wine: " blackberry, black currant, black cherry, cedar, hints of mint (not as much as last time), cigar box, spice and oak." Needs time to open as far as the flavors. Tannin not as intense as last time, but initially it was noticeable. Rich and mildly intense fruit. Tannin seems to dissipate as the wine warms from wine-room temperature. Good food wine with lamb.

Coravin fun - Leoville Barton trial run (Kennards, Waterloo): From Coravin. Graphite, pencil shavings, savoury black fruits but also a creme de cassis element. It's juicy with leathery tannins over blackcurrant that almost has a cordial note...the fruit persists long on the palate. rather nice.

A strong nose of cherry vanilla, there is a balance of muscular tannins and intense fruit. St Estephe was the star of 2003 and, although very much a lesser sibling, the quality does shine through. This will also hold for a good few years.

Decanted for an hour before serving over 3 hour period. New oak highlights young ripe fruit structure. Full body. Felt very young and drank more like a Sonoma cab than a medoc. Good cassis laced with a tobacco note. No graphite or cedar present. Fine tannins and a mineral nuanced finish that goes about 20 seconds. Would wait another couple of years before popping this if I had more. May try to procure another magnum.
Big Bottle Night, we drank in order: 2009 Chateau Potensac (3L), 2012 Sebastiani Gravel Bed Red (1.5L), 2006 Anderson's Conn Valley Eloge (1.5L) and the 2003 Chateau Meyney (1.5L). All the wines, except the Meyney where at least partially decanted, with the Potensac being entirely decanted. We started drinking the first wine 15 minutes after opening, but since it was the double magnum, we also had that one again, at the end of the rotation.
Something has to finish last, but this was a very good wine. It might have suffered a bit due to storage issues. This was the one wine we didn't decant, and we basically popped and poured it. Initial tastes were a little flat and muted. It opened up a bit as the evening went on. Less fruit driven than Napa wines, so it also may have suffered coming after the Eloge and Gravel Bed.

I think this is at the top of its game right now..but I like to drink these when they still have a future rather than when they only have a past. Necrophiliacs might want to hold on another few years! A good cru bourgeois St. Estephe, 2003 is turning out quite well, at least for my left-bankers..

These st estephe can have a hard edge. Sometimes they are too tough, too austere, even for my tastes. This wine, from a searing hot vintage, had both drying tannins and also slight over ripeness. Yet the dark fruit, boysenberry, blueberry, and graphite made it enjoyable. I think this may improve with a couple of years, but it will probably always remain slightly tough.

Into my 3rd case. Outlier performance for a wine of this caliber. Classic Medoc, earth, mint and spice on the nose, ripe fruit to match the tannins, good dry finish. Charming classic style, balanced all around. Better than 2003 Calon Segur at this point.

Splash decanted about 45 min before served. Classic St. Estephe structure. Red currant, pencil lead, tannins integrated but guide the mouthfeel. Some stone in the backdrop, but the fruit carries the day which is nice. While 2003 can be flush, this was nicely restrained. Looking forward to remaining bottles.

Wines That Don't Suck (WTDS) Offline (Joan's in the Park, St. Paul, MN): Very dark red/purple color. PNP, drank 1 glass over an hour plus. This was in a good spot, the nose has an earthy perfume, leather, cassis, oak. The palate is full with cassis, blackberry, oak, spice and just a bit of sharp edge on the medium plus finish. Nice wine, nice QPR.

Deep, ruby/garnet in color, with significant amount of sediment. Nose of blackcurrant, cedar, spice box, graphite, plum, leather, earth, black olive. Palate of plum, blackcurrant, cedar, eucalyptus, earth. High tannin, med+ acid. Spice and cinnamon, smoke, char, burnt toast, coffee, tobacco. Fruit is pretty crisp and fresh for a wine of this age.

Last tasted a year ago. Aromatic on the nose: blackberry, black currant, black cherry, cedar, hints of mint (not as much as last time), cigar box, spice and oak. But, the wine is still tannic, a bit brooding, and the flavors were not especially discernible, during the initial phase of consumption. Seems rich with mildly intense fruit. A medium finish. Better with food - tenderloin.

PnP. Garnet. This has developed nicely (last bottle in 2010). Earth, dark fruit, very nicely balanced wine with good structure and crisp fruit. Medium finish. Another proof that there are some very nice wines from the Northern parts of Medoc in 2003. After getting more air, the wine starts showing a bit of those burned elements. Would not decant and rather just pnp.

I wasn't convinced at first, it was a bit stodgy, but I really should have decanted it, since after a few hours the cedar, blackcurrant and fruit cake tastes were lightened by a refreshing elegant second wave that made it really very agreeable. Far better than several dozen CCs in 2003 costing two or three times as much, if not quite up to the standard of Lafon-Rochet.

Better than 10 months ago. Aromas of blackberry, black currant, mint, cedar, earth, spice and cigar box. The tannins are not yet resolved, but a little softer than when last tasted. Still has a slight acidic sting on the tongue from the tannin, but the tannins do not invade the appreciation of the wine like last time. Flavors of blackberry, black currant, mint, earth, spice and oak. Good acid and structure. Decent and fairly rich fruit; better intensity. A medium-long finish. I think this will be a better wine down the road, when the tannins abate. Good pairing with leftover turkey from TG.

Little flavor or fruit. Decanted for and an a half hours plus. Just not a good wine. Did not improve on the second night. Only positive note is I did not pay a lot for it. WA has been saying bad things about this chateau in recent years. They are correct.
2003 Bordeaux Horizontal (San Antonio, TX): Just as good as last year. Great tobacco and roasted cherry aromas. A bit chunky, but dark cherries, plums stand out. Nice finish. One of the better Meyneys out there, no doubt due to the St. Estephe region braving the heat in '03 better than others.

Some 2003's can perplex, or maybe all of them can. Tasted 18 months ago I thought it a very nice bottle drinking nicely. The bottle, however, has the clean tasty fruit, but it also has plenty of astringency indicating more years are required. . In the window then, and now back out? It happens with Bordeaux. Back in the day I thought that was a characteristic of Petrus particularly.

A dark garnet color; almost opaque. Still purple on the rim. Nice aromas of blackberry, black currant, mint, herbs, spice and cigar box. Unfortunately the tannins are not yet totally resolved; acidic on the tongue from tannin. Other than the easy recognition of blackberry, blackcurrant and oak, its hard to decipher and appreciate other flavors due to the tannin. Seems to have decent fruit, but the appreciation again is overwhelmed by the tannin. Too closed at this point for me. The effect of the tannin seems to abate with food. Note the wine has been stored at 56 degrees from inception.

A mini-monolithic effort from Chateau Meyney, wrapping up fearsome great slabs of dark fruit, meat, roasted coffee and earth with lovely freshness and a powerful tannic structure to produce a mighty impressive wine of much style and grandeur.

This bottle opened extremly tight and a frontal attack of earth on the nose. We decanted and set it aside to enjoy a 2007 Tierra Roja and came back to the Meyney about an hour later. Significantly better as the earthy tones were still there, but a lot softer with layers of mineral, leather and dark fruit blended in. I think these still need some time... either in the bottle, or in a decanter when opened.

Beautiful nose, with blackcurrant, spice, leather, and cigar box. Blackcurrant on the palate too, as well as red cherries, earthy notes, spice, medium+ acidity, and fairly grippy tannins still, so will keep the other bottle in the cellar for a few years still. Nice complexity and excellent length.

A pleasant surprise from the heat-wave summer. Opened and drank over two days. Needs a bit of air, and still (second day) a hint of green stem that will need a bit of time to integrate. Not over the hill, but drinking well. A bit peppery on the fruit, and medium length finish. Not too austere either, and looking forward to the rest of the case. Good value for money at this point.

Drunk the day after a 2003 Chateau Gloria (St Julien). As might be expected, a very different wine. Still austere on the nose, hinting at another classic claret, but decidedly more fruit forward than the Gloria. In fact, whereas the Gloria exhibited a balance of acidity and tannins - carrying its austerity through to the palate - the Meyeny shows more balance between fruit and acidity, with tannins not much in evidence. Both the Meyney and the Gloria scored surprisingly highly in a Farr Vintners tasting in October 2010 (see: http://www.farrvintners.com/blog.php?blog=69) and the market for both noticeably ticked up around this time. Still, $30 a bottle from Epic Cellars is a bargain for the Meyney.
Of the two my preference is for the Gloria, but I can see that other palates will prefer the virtues in the Meyney - and it might have a bit more time to run than its St Julien counterpart. Both are great with food and excellent value.

Still broodingly dark. Classy, slightly muted nose of oak and blackcurrant fruits. Dense and punchy palate, opening up with a vein of sweetness in the glass. Ripe, tannic and juicy yet with something-of-the-night about it - I'd wait a year or two for this to be complete. Good stuff.

Good deep red brick color. Nose demonstrating some early maturity with notes of tobacco, roasted cherry red fruit, and plums. Creamy palate with moderated tannins and meaty notes of black cherries, cedar, plums, and stones. This is a ripe wine, but certainly over the top. Oak and alcohol are both very moderated. Finish has nice saturation of flavors and chewy, though soft, tannins. Nice length. The drinking window on this bordeaux is certainly open. After having a few recent gems within the '03 vintage, I am coming around the possibility that some of these wines will last longer than expected.

1h decant. My first really satisfactory 2003 bordeaux. This is well balanced and integrated with some nice soil flavours on the palate. The tannins are still present but quite soft, nevertheless I agree with some of the previous notes that the wine might be even better in 2 to 3 years. The only slight letdown is the finish which is not very long

Subtle cedar spice, cassis, and earthy nose. Palate with integrated tannins, giving a smooth round mouthfeel, with good acidity to keep it from being flabby or jammy. Palate with cassis, and lively spice, pepper and floral elementals. Great explosive mid-palate. Finish is a little disappointing, with red fruits, mocha and some mild drying tannins. Surprisingly approachable and should improve over the short to medium term.

Purple. Smokey, jammy blackcurrant, freshly cut beech wood, hints of mushroom and dry earth, quite high alcohol. Palate showed plum tart, full bodied backed up by structured tannin, rich, but not drying at all. Medium to long finish with sweet tannin. Palate better than nose. Showed the earthy and smokey character of St. Estephe and alcoholic 2003.

Opened five hours prior to Thanksgiving dinner. Nice color and classic bouquet. Strong up front fruit that provided nice heft in the mid-palette and a strong finish. Tannins are still there, so the balance isn't quite right just yet, but a very nice, enjoyable wine. Ok with turkey, probably better with lamb or duck.

Drank with David + Carol at Settebello's along with their 89 Pibran. Meyney was drinkable on first open. Some tannins but not like Meyneys of old. Viscous and dark purple. Dark fruit flavor. Not complex but an enjoyable wine.

This wine followed a 2005 Sequoia Napa Cab and the old world / new world differences were apparent. The Meyney was more muted and softer, likely due to a couple of extra years in the cellar. The nose on this wine was more interesting with some floral notes mixed with dark fruit. The finish was short. Saved most of the bottle to be re-tasted the next day.

2003 Meyney starts off with fresh blackberry, cassis, spice and toast aromatics. Full bodied and with some intensity of flavor. this concentrated wine is tannic, but the tannins are ripe. This wine will age and develop well.

(13% vol) No formal notes and no decanting; delicious spice notes on the palate and finish. Very enjoyable now even though I expected it to be more closed and unapproachable.

Nicely balanced St Estephe, drinking well now. I didn't find this overly tannic, soft enough to be drinking quite young, though will probably keep as long as Meyneys usually do - good drinking over the next decade

This was actually opened night before, on opening was a big load of oak and tannins over some red fruit. Better on night 2, red plum and cassis intertwined with coffee aromas. Low-acid, ok length. Most "modern" styled young Meyney I've ever tasted, this is probably better than any Meyney I've tasted since 1995, but I'm thinking not up to the quality level of the pre-'90 ones. Still, certainly a servicable Bordeaux. B

I've always had a weakness for this Chateau as its 1989 was one of the first whole cases I ever purchased. I keep waiting for its cru bourgeois magic to return. After reading the encouraging BWE notes about this vintage, I gave it a whirl... A very purple color, more mauve than black. Fairly tight, hard to evaluate. Certainly, it seems balanced and it has good fruit and depth, but everything is somewhat muted. Very black currant in profile, avoid the cloying qualities of many 2003s. The tannins are thick and so ripe that they are hard to identify as tannins- I think this is a trait of Left Bank in this vintage--abundant but ripe, lush tannins. Reminds me a lot of the Lilian-Ladouys 2003 with a bit more class perhaps. I like this wine, but don't think it's worth the price, unless it can be found in the low $20s. B

2003 Bordeaux (Mouton, Haut Brion, Cos, Ducru, Trotanoy, Lynch, many others): A surprisingly good wine. Dark red color. On the palate this gives red fruit, coffee grounds, and fresh herbs. Great mouth feel. Bright red fruit, slight mushroom, and a pleasant taste of coffee grounds. Good length. Very nice.

Consumed at home with grilled filet mignon wrapped in bacon. Bright disc. Opaque purple robe with violet rim. Clean nose, showing quite intense aromas of assorted black fruits, roasted herbs and minerals. Full-bodied on the palate, with low acidity and ample, somewhat chewy tannins. The alcohol is relatively high for this warm-vintage wine, but is quite well-integrated. The ripe flavors mirror the nose. Medium-to-long, smooth finish. This wine will likely benefit from some short-term cellaring, and then should drink well for a decade or so.

Gorgeous deep red color with great density all the way to the rim. Simply put the aromatics are phenomenal: an astonishing bouquet of ripe berries, crushed stones, fresh flowers, hints of mocha and oak, and even a touch of rusticity. Tremendously smooth and seductive on the palate building to great concentration of fruit (i.e. black cherry) and sweet well proportioned tannins along with wonderful complementary acidity. In my opinion Meyney has performed way above its station in this vintage as it is already displaying superb complexity, noble minerality, and impeccable balance. I finished this the following day after simply recorking the bottle and amazingly it was even better so I believe this wine has a long life ahead of it. Interestingly when I came across the crushed stone note in this wine the first thing I thought of was the 1966 Montrose I had last month. Don’t believe anyone who tells you the 2003s are New World fruit bombs stripped of their terroir.

Decanted an hour before dinner of 2" thick NY strips, sliced zucchini, pearl onions, all grilled over oak (beef was dusted with dry rub of equal parts black pepper, white pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, Lawry's Seasoned Salt; veggies were marinated in Newman's Own Light Balsamic Vinaigrette). Finished with a little Giardelli chocolate square. Maybe a saint would deserve a meal like that but I don't!

domaines cordier, who has owned this estate for 80 years, sold ch. meyney in 2000 due to great financial problems. the new owners apparently wasted no time changing the recipe to a "new world" style, a cabernet fruit-bomb loaded with oak and smoke. in a blind tasting i would have guessed it was from california. a shame in my opinion since this is one of the oldest estates in the medoc dating to the 1600s and until now, one of my all-time favorite standby st. estephes

It is a little one dimensional
on the palate and the finish is on the short side.

This was in a good spot, the nose has an earthy perfume, leather, cassis, oak. The palate is full with cassis, blackberry, oak, spice and just a bit of sharp edge on the medium plus finish. Nice wine, nice QPR.
