Sour cherry, mint, eucalyptus, liquorice, marzipan. Very expressive wine, really leaps out of the glass. Medium to full bodied, high acid. Beautiful weight with concentration and freshness. Excellent.

Soave & Brunello (Anima e Cuore): I've had a few of these over the years and it's always hit the spot- gorgeous - very much resolved and ready, but it'll stay at this plateau for a while. Spiced cherry and raspberry, baked earth, rose and crunchy autumn leaves. A subtle hint of bretty animal goodness. It has a louche self-confidence - relaxed about the fact it's a stunner. Cherry on the palate, framed by food-friendly acid and smooth, fine but present tannins, a touch of chew on the finish.

Continues to improve, and I don't think there's a rush to drink these. Still plenty of acidity to give the fruit freshness, nice aging but not a lot of secondary.

Slow oxed all day and then into a decanter for an hour before I poured a small taste. Beautiful electric ruby color. The nose jumps out with a blast of cloves, strawberry jam, and dark cherries, baking spices, nutmeg and some charcoal. Great dancing nose that recalling strutting its stuff. Full mouthful of cherries, bitter oranges but the tannins are still prevalent. I hope they recede over the next few hours as this sits. Just an hour later - The wine had totally morph into a great drink. Not unexpected as this is my experience with decanting after slow oxed. The color has deepened to the point of opacity. The nose is still amazing (maybe the best I’ve experienced in a long long time). But the kicker is the pallet. The tannins have receded and it’s in total balance so that all the fruit and secondary flavors are revealed. The sweetness that has emerged over the top of a full mouthful of fruits. These 2010 are just getting better and better as the start to really strut their stuff. IMHO this vintage keeps amazing me. They are just starting to get into an early drinking window. I think they will drink and evolve for several decades. Tonight this wine is singing. 93-94+.

Loads of cherry, very concentrated smell. Tobacco leaf, liquorice, a bit of leather, cinnamon. Mulchy, fresh wet earth. Very powerful in the mouth, rich grippy tannin, softened but with a firm core. Tangy fruit finish. Very long. One of the wines of the year so far for me. This has everything.

Opened for several hours then into a decanter. Beautiful color of rust just a bit lighter at the edges. The nose is screaming roses and strawberrie jam with some cloves. Coates your mouth like syrup. Bitter oranger strawberry jam sweet figs. Really good. As we drank this over dinner it just got better and better. Nice wine but not one of the top 2010’s. A cut below.

Much more discreet on the nose than the Fontodi. Extraordinarily delicate and restrained. Almost Burgundian in its lightness. Tight, taut, tense. Dancing and static at the same time. Paradoxical. Floral - violets. A field of poppies in summer. Beautiful.

Excellent Brunello. Richness, depth, length, balanced, terrific with Italian food (homemade tagliatelli with meatball, hot sausage, mushrooms and peas in tomato sauce). More traditional, little noticeable oak, with superb fruit and tannic grip. If anything, this has improved in the bottle since last enjoyed 4 years ago.

Decanted 1 hour. Ripe black cherries with a touch of strawberry on the nose, maybe a whiff of violet. Brick and dust at the for of the palate, less fruit and more violets. Med+ acidity. Seasoned with a hint of sweet oak and cinnemon. Doesn't leave the mouth too dry. Sweet cherry and spice at the end, spice and faint vanilla linger in the medium finish. Much better with food (lasagne), really lets it sing. Drinking well but looking forward to it developing more mature flavours.

Day 1: Decant needed, as this was a bit tight on PnP for the first hour. Orange hues to the cherry color. Nose not too open. Nicely structured with the fine tannins still drying. Not a huge wine, nor a ton of depth. Oak and alcohol well resolved. Starting to drink well now but seems at least two years away.
Day 2: Flavors much more resolved, with crunchy black cherry fruits and orange peel coming to play. Harmonious and elegant. A bit of spice in the finish.

Brunello Brunch. Poured into decanter and drank over 3 hours. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of classic sour red cherries, earth, light spice, tomato leaf and some light herbs. Developing. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), soft velvety high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet red cherries, sour red cherries, red plums, red licorice, macerated tomato, light spice. Palate sort of dips and gets flattish towards the medium+ finish. Otherwise a good quality Brunello. Traditional feel. Elegant and pleasing mouth-feel. Drinking well now already. Can still develop over the next 4+ years but not a long ager. From the Montalcino South subzone.

Very riped fruit, sweet at first which kind of softens on rose with more finesse. A modern winemaker? The body is there and the tannin is fine-grained. Good acidity with decent after taste. Mixed of North and South Montalcino.

Nose: Though the nose is still a bit tight after 3 hours in the decanter, it still shows elegance and perfume with red cherries, strawberries, violets, roasted herbs, clay tones, leather, and a touch of earth.
Taste: Medium/full bodied with medium/high acidity and chewy tannins. The youthfulness of the structure is certainly there, but there is elegance and panache with red cherries, plums, strawberries, violets, clay tones, and roasted herbs.
Overall: This is sexy now, but with a lot of promise for the future.

Medium-deep reddish garnet in color. Forward, attractive & fragrant nose of youthful, ripe red fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & red currants with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes of roses, some cedar & dried herbs, sandalwood, spices, some mint, mocha, leather & minerals. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced, smooth textured, youthful, ripe red fruit flavors of sour cherries, strawberries & pomegranate with earthy, spices, dried herbs, cocoa, coffee & minerals. Long lingering silky finish with fine-grained tannins. Drinks quite well at present with decanting and extended airing but still needs additional aging to develop to its full potential. Quite perfumed, classic, refined & delicious Brunello with firm structure and generous ripe fruit flavors.

Excellent winemaking here at this price point. I think this is going to be a stellar offering in 6-8 years. Drinking well in its primary stage. Distinct nose of dark cherries, whipped cream, cinnamon, and menthol. Rich and primary on the palate with succulent red / dark fruit. Nice acidity and structure. Really nice QPR ! Paired with a simple veal parmigiana and späetzle dish with rapini. At $43 I need to add a couple more of these under the radar gems to storage.

Very nice Brunello from the vintage with no dogs. Relatively soft and giving, modest acidity. More complex than many others at age five. I like it but it's not remarkable. It's possible the reserva will show some extra depth when it becomes available next year.

Bright ruby, with an ephemeral nose of rose, cherries, balsam, a touch of soil. Elegant and captivating, this gains weight in the glass and unfurled its perfume over several hours of airtime. Beautifully made, with very fine tannins and a rich ripe palate, this is already approachable despite its infancy. Promises to become something quite stunning over the next decade. 93+

Pale in colour, this had great freshness and "lift" in a pure, fruit driven style majoring on pear (not something I can recall before in a red wine), strawberries, red cherries and a crunch of redcurrants. Relatively light-bodied but mouth-filling, with the fine-grained tannins unobtrusively in the background even at this stage of its development. I wondered if this might be a little one-dimensional, but I was left wishing I had more in my glass at the end.

Dried flowers on the nose as well as rich fruit, earth and savoury spices. Very harmonic on the palate despite firm tannins. Fresh, spicy with waves of sweet fruit. Superb finish - very persistent and long. Wonderful. Needs a bit of time and should have a long life ahead of it. 94-95+

Enjoyable from the first tilt of the glass with a bouquet of ripe red fruits--just picked from the vine—sweet spice, dark earth and chalky minerals. On the palate, it showed finesse with silky, acid-driven textures ushering in focused red berry, hints of herbs, inner floral tones and a fine tannic structure, which was nearly concealed by the fruit. It lingered long on the finish, as the berries turned slightly tart with a spicy twist and the mouth watered for another taste. This is a gorgeous Brunello with great potential and an amazing value.
