Home-drinking. Less ethereal than bottle I had a few years ago. Has put on some weight. Less advanced than the Clos de la Garennne from the same producer I had a few weeks ago. No Oxidative notes yet. Great complexity and layering as befits a Grand Cru.

Enjoyed this with Xavier94 at his birthday tasting (see his note); I found considerable notes of melon which indicated advancement and fragility to me. I concur with Xavier94’s note but thought it could have shown more concentration and lifting acidity.

Deep intensity on the nose (though initially hard to get a handle on as this was very chilled/cold at first) with honeysuckle, apricot/peach, ripe citrus, spearmint and fern aromas come through with a quintessential pain grill type character. Good richness but not a heavy BBM, still maintaining a good acidity through the palate. Ends maybe a bit pinched as this opens out a bit. Good for drinking (and nosing) right now but there were questions and concerns about holding on to this one for much longer. 94-95.

Cold rainy Nite in MSP but all was good at St Genevieve tonight! Terrific Grand Cru Montrachet with all the concentration & depth you expect from this hallowed ground. Just couldn't quite keep pace w/ the two 14s Bienvenues-Bâtard Porches from Ramonet & Jacques Carillon. Not quite the fruit purity and finesse. On any other lineup this with would warrant 94+. Loved the hint of orange rind and mineral here!

Heidi's Gang: The White Burgs Reign (St. Genevieve, Mpls, MN): Light gold plus color. Drank a glass over 3 hours plus. Quieter on the nose, lime blossom, saline, lemon pulp. The palate offers more vibrancy with an almost tannic, youthful grip; lemon zest, tart lemon, just a little orange overtone, wet stone and good length.

Another great experience! This punches way above its price. On par with the best, from buttery floral white peach and stone fruit nose to smooth but oil laden finish, it just works!!

Paul Pernot's 2014 BBM is a delicious old-school white Burgundy with mostly-integrated oak framing an unctuous nose of pear, chamomile, and spice. Medium bodied, rich but balanced by a fine acidity. Good length. Very good.

Magnificent Montrachet (Hong Kong): Domaine Paul Pernot founded in 1959 and based in Puligny-Montrachet. Currently owns 22 hectares of vineyard (14 hectares in Puligny-Montrachet making for one of the largest landlords). Large part of production sold to the négociants. Produces wines ranged from Bourgogne to Grand Cru levels. Took years to rebuild after WWII destroyed much of the vines.
Wine med-deep lemon in glass. Nose toasty, floral, herbal, nutty. Grapefruit and green mango. With each quick decant (simply pouring from one glass to another), the nose would burst with nutmeg, honeysuckle, almonds and stone fruit only to dissipate…
Palate high acid, med+ body with a rich mouth-coating texture. Long finish. This may have been the least stand out wine of the night but only because of the stiff competition.

Deep golden yellow and unctuous. Decanted and let sit to warm up a little as the inital taste out of the fridge was a little harsh. Opened up with amazing deep flavour - buttery oak, citrus etc. Everything I'd wish for in a quality Burgundy! Need more now!

Japanese Omakase lunch, fruit day, been waiting for half a year to drink this with some refined food so finally with Covid restrictions easing it’s possible now, light yellow, oily nose, white flowers, floral, pretty & elegant, medium bodied, dry, fresh, salty finish, lovely, magical, always wanting the next sip, hard to puts into words why it’s so good, best to just mediate, words are meaningless 94

Burg Grand Cru night at Bishan. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of citrus lemon, touch of green limes, surrounding layer of chalky stones minerality, flint and light toast. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of citrus lemon, green limes, chalky limestone minerality, creamy battonage butter light vanilla. Increasing saltiness with more air. Long finish. Outstanding quality. Lovely complexity and tensile yet savoury. Quite clearly less ripeness than the PP-Batard 2014 tasted side by side (blind), but it works out anyway - feels fresher and less evolved somehow.

2014 Burgundy Dinner (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): An excellent old-school Grand Cru white Burg. This was beautifully aromatic from the get-go, with lovely smells of fresh pears, white peach, and almond cream. A really fresh and giving bouquet - so pretty too! The palate Was really solid - not as broadly expressive as nose, nor quite refined as the bouquet suggested, but this was very nice in a old-fashioned way, with lots of batonnage showing in its creamy notes of salted butter, almonds and white fruit. Apart from a slight hint of hollowness on the midpalate, this was quite a full expression of BBM; but I think it also showed some of the finesse and tension of the 2014 vintage, with a fresh purity and a nice mineral spine that stretched all the way into a decently long, savoury finish. I liked the fact that this was conspicuously light on oak too. Old-school Grand Cru - unfussy and delicious, and very good indeed.

Truly, this is a terrific wine. It was great to hold this glass and sniff around over an extended period of time (+3 hrs). Doesn’t really have any acid spine to keep up with the nose but still earns a 93 due to the multidimensional great complex presentation.

The 2014 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet is an absolutely sensational showing in this vintage. As this stunning chardonnay slowly begins to unwind it releases striking aromatics of fresh orchard fruits, lemon oil, citrus blossoms, crushed stones with underlying hints of oyster shell and flint that all develop beautifully in the glass. On the palate this possesses a simply gorgeous texture, with wonderful overall balance and precision. This continues to display remarkable combination of acidity and minerality all the way through the pretty finish. While this is clearly on the youthful side, it is still extremely impressive, especially if allowed some time to unwind. The 2014 should go on to age brilliantly for quite some time, and should certainly become even more compelling as it develops over time.

Complex array of aromas combining apple, stone fruit character with spice and floral notes. Similarly complex flavors with very bright and elegant textures, showing so much minerality and bright acidity. At its peak now, this may someday fall behind the Bâtard-Montrachet in the next glass, but I'm not certain and today this Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet is clearly more enjoyable and interesting.

Wow, it's big and still very young ('14), but utterly delicious. The nose was rich with ripe apricot, wild flowers, hints of vanilla and crushed seashell. On the palate I found silky, weighty textures with notes of young pear, almond and a teasing note of citrus. It finished long with caking minerality and tantalizing acidity.

Pale yellow color, nose very tight to start, honeysuckle, limes, very tense, on the palate closed yet brazenly demonstrating a blaring cream, limes a dominant note, on the mid-palate a fine depth just barely revealing itself, lengthy mineral-driven finish with light touches of honey, over the course of three hours it opened up a bit- very slowly- to reveal a wine of impeccable balance and classic structure, where the Batard in this vintage is very showy right now (though also with much in store for the future) this one is best left be for several years, it has the mid-weight feel and tension of a great Bienvenue but is unusually restrained at present. Great potential. (****)+, 2024-2034+

Paul Pernot 2014's Out of Barrel (Puligny Montrachet): Barrel. More deeply pitched aromatics and the first wine to show a lactic side. Real liveliness, palate presence, and persistence. Great rush of orange fruit at the end and some almost tannic austerity. Not a big Grand Cru but a beauty.
