My first 09 Brunello. Not sure why I opened this amidst a veritable ocean of 04s, 06s, and 07s that I really should be drinking. This is very lovely and true to form. Black cherry, prunes, soy sauce, mushrooms, burnt thyme. A bit simple but cleanly made and drinking very well right now.

I wish I had more of these. On opening, I was a little disappointed and concerned as it lacked....well, just lacked - nothing terrible, just dumb and uninteresting. With 20 -30 minutes of air, however, this blossomed. This is really what I want in aged Brunello (I know it isn't that old, but...) - wild strawberry with a bit of currant, earth, a hint of saddle leather. I'm digging this. Went beautifully with spaghetti amatriciana and held up overnight corked.

Pop and pour. On the nose: caramelized sugar, blackberry liqueur, confit blood orange. On the palate: good acidity, ripe black fruit, good density and attenuated tannin on the finish. Glad we drank this; mature.

Still drinking well, but on the down slope. Nose is a bit funky now on initial opening, but less so after an hour or so decant. Held up well with lasagne over two nights. My last bottle, i suggest drinking now or soon.

Nowhere near as electrifying as 3 years back, if still a great drink. Today the nose was prunier, stinkier, rotting fruitier, even if the palate was clean and pretty and red-fruited, right out of the gate. Previous bottles of this didn't show the vintage as much as this one did today (cooked fruit, low acidity, weak tannins). All that being said, it was still delicious, and some of the pruniness seemed to abate once the food arrived....

Decanted. Light sediment. A lighter red color. Decent nose of fruit and earth with a little spice. Strong tannins but also a little sharp. A bit softer after 60 minutes. Finish was on the short side. I expect it will continue to age well for several more years.

Really good. Decanted 45 minutes. Red with brick shading in glass. Aged red fruit, leather, earth, bit of herb/spice, perfect tannin and acid, had a wonderful fullness revealed gracefully on the palate via long finish. Served with grilled mushroom rub strip steaks, truffle taglitelle...Great complement.

Clear cherry red with lots of bricking. Medium intense nose, some cherry, tobacco, leather and earth. Smooth ripe and rounded on the palate, tannins pretty resolved, still nice strong acidity which made this a great food match. Some earth and tobacco on the finish. Delicious., but not hugely complex.

Medium to light garnet red with brick edges. Layered nose with damp earth, cherries, tobacco, lavender and a bit of minerality. Medium tannins (6.5/10), with balanced acidity and a medium body. Well rounded palate with notes of dried cherries, earth and truffles. Finish was long and quite dry. Drink till 2024.

26 months since my previous bottle, this is still in vg shape. I had double-decanted this for sediment (only); the nose and palate took an hour or two to really come around, so if I had another, I'd be aerating in decanter for 90 minutes. Shows little age on the dark brick red core, with secondary aromas that gain in brightness, and to a slightly lesser degree, intensity as the bottle is emptied. Beautiful medium-bodied palate with great freshness, purity, and focus; med+ finish. Truly a wine with soul. 14,5% abv., drink now thru 2026. highly recommended+
Uncorked 45 minutes before drinking. Semi-strong aromatics. On the palate, it came across as past its prime...luxardo marischino cherries, wet charcoal, creosote. Had a medium body with fading acidity leading to duller fruited and a bit flabby. Time to drink up now as this was much better in its youth. CT end date should be '17 or '18.

Really nice BdM. It was drinkable almost from the PnP, but it was best after 4 hours in the decanter. Lovely dried red fruits, tobacco, leather, and a little vanilla (from moderate, but integrated oak). Writing this review the next day, but I seem to recall that the mid-palate and finish were particularly impressive for their presence and persistence. At $27, this is a definite QPR. I also have their 2009 Rosso di Montalcino, which is equally impressive.

A really exquisite, really interesting Brunello. Maybe the only Brunello I've ever had that I'd have called for a Barolo blind. Decanted for an hour; in that second hour it had all of my normal tells of an electric, well-aged Nebbiolo (truffled earth, cherries (but not the sour/dark cherries of a typical Brunello), higher tannins; and fewer of the typical Brunello tells (leather, tobacco, tomato-ey acids, balsamico). At the end it grew weightier on the palate and more Sangio-like. This was outstanding.

Two hour decant - pretty good with grilled tenderloin and roasted garlic potatoes with Mediterranian salad. Next night with grilled chicken drumsticks - some with Montreal chicken seasoning and some with barbeque sauce and ranch-style beans. Works well with highly seasoned food. Beautiful wine. Exceptionally well-balanced, medium-bodied, with clean, fresh acidity, and a Burgundian feel given its weight, and texture. Sangiovese is a food-friendly variety as many already know, but it was this wine's elegance and beautiful perfumes that took things to the next level. Herbal, more woodsy than floral, dusty soil, red fruits, some citrus. I was quite taken with the performance, and if one believes in vintages (as declared by governing bodies and/or the press), then this runs very counter to any notion that 2009 was anything less than superb. Very fine tannins, med>med+ finish, vg structure. An incredible value, and one I'll be sourcing on an upcoming visit. This was a PnP, with the wine showing better with each glass until it was gone; aeration in decanter is not needed, in my opinion, and more, positive evolution is likely with additional age. Excellent with The Bachelor Farmer's tartare. 14,5% (fully resolved, comes across more like 13,5%) abv., drink thru 2026+. highly recommended+
Color: dark purple Nose: initial funky aroma, somewhat closed. And then opened beautifully with complex rich, diverse aromas of fresh and dried berries. Continued to evolve in glass during dinner. Body/flavor: medium-full body. Terrific complexity and balance. Fresh and dried fruits and berries. Some black pepper and warm spices. Aftertaste: long finish with delicious flavors.
Paired with Christmas turkey! Oh the bird and bottle went well together!

Decanted. Needed about 15 min air. Beautiful nose with caramelized orange peel, asian spice, and some minty herbal notes. On the palate, very immediate, with juicy acidity, loads of black raspberry and a touch of tart cherry...slightly pasty tannin on the finish, which shows a slight caramelized note. Very good right now, though definitely could improve with bottle age. Maybe wait longer for final bottle.

Garnet red with bricking on the edges with a moderate intensity. Complex and layered nose starting off with some soft red cherries, damp leaves, earthy, tobacco, clay, savory and a little dirty. Fruit got a little more intense with air. Dark red cherries, earthy and mushrooms on the palate. Moderate tannins (6/10) with great acidity (6/10) and beautifully balanced. Medium plus body. Dry and covered in cherries in the long finish. Drank over a two hour period, only wish we had grabbed more than a bottle! Drink till 2026.

lean, high-acid brunello with classic black cherry and red clay (and also dried orange peel?) qualities that scream Tuscany; while ready to drink (thanks to soft tannins), this is a wine that gets structure from its acidity and should continue to age well

Second bottle in about 6 weeks. Better than the list, seemed fresher. Cherry fruit was upfront and bright, good herbs. No strange aftertaste like the last bottle, Actually probably will get pretty good in a couple years, just needs a bit more stuffing and complexity.

Not too focused of a tasting as we drank in a busy pizza restaurant. Opened 5 hours before drinking, decanted for 30 minutes, and then replaced cork. Wine had a medium minus bodyweight, but very playful on the palate. Has cherry and ample plus acidity. A very enjoyable BdM. Had with pizza supreme and it paired very well. In a nice drinking window now that will continue to improve for another 2-3 years, at least. Attractive QPR @ $27 and glad I have 1 more. Will try to wait into the 2020's for the last one. Great job, Rimmerman!

Perfumed cherry, leaves, cracked pepper, nice dry but fine tannin, medium bodied. This is great, especially for a warm year. Not detecting any of the burnt sugar or off aromas mentioned. While I'm not a Brunello expert this does have a nice ring of old school winemaking to it. This would work really well with some meat.

Somewhat old school, good herbs and cherry fruit, but hindered by a bit of burned sugar type aroma and aftertaste which left a small amount of bitterness of the finish.

Exceptional Brunello. Definitely done in an old-world, traditional style. Lots of brush, cedar, and tobacco on the nose, but with plenty of light red fruits, as well. Tannins have a bit of an edge, but nothing that can't be tamed by food. This is drinking well right now, but will bring enjoyment for many years to come.

I like this! It is a nice traditional Sangiovese/Brunello with an older school profile. Garnet color, medium concentration. Nose is a shifting aroma of burnt orange peel, bright red cherry, and a nice herbal component (mint/laurel). Palate is high toned, good acid and very fine tannin. There is nothing over ripe or lush, it has good tension. This definitely has a long-ish life ahead of it, at least another 5 years. Overall this is a rustic style, not the big glamorous richly oaked Brunellos chasing points. Good wine for food and company, and a wonderful price.

Decanted. On Day 1 this showed nicely after about 15 minutes of air. Orange peel, burnt sugar and red cherry mixed nicely together. On the palate, medium bodied and a little thin at first, but picked up weight with air. Nice firm acidity and grainy tannic finish.
More interesting on Day 2 (after sitting corked on the counter overnight). Showing more red fruit on the nose, but similar to before. Nicely balanced acidity and tannin and a nice finish.
Day 3: After yet another night corked on the counter (unrefrigerated), this is still hitting on all cylinders. Seems like it should have a long life.
Medium-bodied, with medium tannins. The cork showed seepage half-through. Was great as a pop-and-pour, and best consumed within the first 30 minutes, after which it starts getting a bit funky (wet cardboard) and bitter (almost as if it were corked). Would pair nicely with a sausage pizza. 14.5% ABV. 87-88
This is one that people have been complaining is a bit thin. I don't disagree. We enjoyed this though and while I thought it was atypical, I liked the rustic, easy quality of the wine.

14.5% ABV.

This is one that people have been complaining is a bit thin. I don't disagree. We enjoyed this though and while I thought it was atypical, I liked the rustic, easy quality of the wine.
