This has slipped from its lofty peak and requires consumption over the next few years allowing you to enjoy all of its earthy, cherries, red plums, kirsch, herbs, and peppery nuances. Drink from 2022-2025.

No decant, just popped and poured. Had with NY strip at Tyler Florence’s spot in SF. Feminine, floral nose. Masculine, round, sweet body. Acid and alcohol still strong and present. Was at its best after 30 minutes open, then a gentle decline over next hour. Raisins, wood, and funky forest floor are prevalent.

A big rich wine with pretty spices that also drinks well. Mine and groups #1 CdP out of 12 tasted blind on this evening. Very well made in a bigger brawny style that retains freshness, complexity, and be a fun drinker all at the same time. Likely near peak, but should great pleasure for years to come. Impressive.

Amazing Grenach at a great spot right now. If u have a bottle of this, wait for a good occasion and just open it. U will remember that bottle for a long time. I am very curious how good is their RESERVE). WOW

Decanted 1 hour. Maybe didn't need it. It was better at first then went downhill over a couple hours. There was quite a bit of fine sediment in addition to heavier sediment. It may have helped to stand it up the day prior.

Ruby color, bricking and a teaspoon of fine sediment. One hour decant, without appreciable effect. This wine has distinct and dominant elements of tart and tangy pomegranate and cranberry with some more classic grenache underneath. Smooth otherwise. A very interesting wine that is not for everyone. Although you can taste the 15% alcohol, it doesn't hit you hard and is otherwise quite deceptive. Truly an interesting wine that gets an extra point for such unique elements, but not likely one in which I'd reinvest.

At the end of the tasting, so not many notices, but I remember the strong fruit nose and taste (dark and red berries), very concentrated and massive, even that I like powerful wines this example was a bit too alcohol dominated, maybe needs some more air and time, 92+

Deep garnet color. First whiff from the nose was fantastic revealing a freshness of cherry fruit which sadly went quickly away leaving in its place liqueur-like, jammy and darker fruit. Nose is scented, complex and mature with tertiary aromas accompanying abundant fruit like blackberry and plum and minerals. Palate is even more intense than the nose with unending finish. Fruit is liqueur-like as the wine is full bodied and with lots of glycerol. Yet it is balanced and drinks effortlessly. Flavors include spices, herbs and ground coffee. Tannins are mellow and acidity has to be high for the wine to be in such an impeccable balance. The wine is mature but I believe it could age and last for at least twenty more years given its structure and still abundant fruit...

Still deeply colored. Thrilling aromatics of tobacco, leather, menthol and plum. Full and ripe but basically old fashioned, complex and savory with strong plum, raspberry and bark. No untoward sweetness and excellent acidity for the vintage. Will last but this is fantastic now and by far the most exciting Chateauneuf I've had in some time.

Dinner at Heirloom Cafe in SF with Jim H and Tom. Awesome place, very friendly on corkage.
This is a very big wine, gorgeous full nose of spice and red fruits. Complex wine, coming from the old vines (100 year old Grenache vines) Spicy red fruits, red pepper, mocha/coffee, some raisin and medicinal fruit in the background.
Huge finish, liqueur like. 30 seconds. Big and interesting wine that will probably add complexity over time. Was a favorite of this group, given its size and jamminess it may not be for everyone

Drinking perfectly today, the offers ample, fresh, ripe. spicy red and black fruits, earth and fennel. Produced from Grenache vines that are mostly close to 100 years old, the wine is rich, soft, plush, long and complex.

2000 High-end Chateauneuf du Pape Horizontal (Bin 75): Extremely complex yet lacking balance. Definitely a blockbuster when it was younger due to its slight volatility now. BBQ sauce, spicy red pepper, mocha, jammy, Dr. Pepper, sweet, radish, raisin in the background, and a cognac-like finish. Very large scaled and interesting even though I would not want to drink a ton of it.

Fairly dark and youthful looking. Strong aroma of medicinal black cherry, then some obvious surmaturite and an interesting blend of oregano and green herbs. Syrupy entry, dark fruit, bark all leavened by powerful acidity and prominent licorice on the finish. Although previous tasters have mentioned Grenache, the darker, brooding nature seems like the essence of Mourvedre to me. Big, serious, interesting wine only slightly marred by its overripeness. This traditional Chateauneuf will last for a long time.

Wine is in a great place right now, just beautiful grenache fruit on the nose and wonderful balance. Fruit is dark and the acidity is just right. 3rd time I've had this in the past year or so, and this was the best bottle.

Chateauneuf-du-Pape semi-blind tasting and dinner (Steven's House): Between the Vieille Julienne 2000 Generique and Reserve. Garrigues and ripe fruit tones in the nose. Thick and silky with more fruit tones but less tannins than the Reserve. Easier to appreciate, drinks well now.

Cote Rotie / Hermitage vs CDP (Peach Garden @ OCBC Building): Alcohol :: 15% Opened for 4hrs. Medium ruby, brown hue. A bit alcoholic, but this can’t cover the perfume aromas, lovely nose with roasted meat and herb, licorice, violet and high tone of kirsch liquor, clearly a CDP that display loads of depth and complexity despite the wine still being tightly coiled. Highly intense on the palate that coated with very rich and concentrated of sweet dark fruits that giving the very high level of fine grained tannin and oak a good buffer. This is still pretty young at this stage, muscular, structure and tannic. Stunning depth but not really expressive on the flavors with wild factor. Very well balance, with hoisin sauce, savory meatiness on the long, powerful finish with mineral undertone. This required many more years, say 7-10yrs to really show its potential. Buy - Maybe - Yes.

Softer and considerably more evolved and approachable initially than the 01 reserve. However, if anything, it tightened up with air! Red and black fruits with a seamless, supple mouthfeel and graceful finish.

Concentrated and ripe with essence of Grenache and a wild side to its personality, this lacks the sophistication and depth of the Reserve. This shows the sauvage, wild side of Chateauneuf.

Occasional tasting group: C9duP 1998 - 2001 plus a few extra's. (@ PVa): Lush bouquet with leather, chocolate and black fruits. Not the smells you expect in the first place with a C9. The taste is as surprising as well. Full bodied, a lot of sweetness, chocolate, dark forest fruits. The tannin is fully integrated and soft. Complex and elegant wine.

Drunk at lunch at Commanders-bought second lot recently in from london merchant and decided to try a bottle with lunch. decanted for 2 hours. dark purple color, dark smokey fruits on the nose with a bit of glycerin. started strong in the mouth, purple fruits, smoke, minerality all upfront, silky tannins then closed it down. seemed to miss the middle. good balance, good wine for the vintage, needs more time. PS for those in west london the Commander has a nice £12.95 lunch menu

Nose of dark raspberry and cherry liqueurs and flowers. the palate was expectedly very full bodied and loaded with black raspberries, herbs de Provence, rich dark cherries, asphalt, lavender, some sage. I wrote great texture (another one). Hibiscus tea, and pepper. Great grip and a youngster for sure. Fabulous today. 97 pts.
