Brought out from cellar to room temperature the night before. Opened 8 hours before drinking, and very gently decanted 4 hours before drinking. Magnificent nose (if discreet at first) of cherry, tobacco, and leather. Fruit surprisingly present still, for 18 years; tannins beautifully soft and silky. Very long. A remarkable wine (frankly, I would expect no less, for the price!!!!) It should easily keep for another several years, but it is great to drink right now.

Another favorite of mine but not showing so well tonight. Probably needs air and cellar time. Part of the finicky ‘05 vintage with is hit or miss in terms of timing. This had a very floral nose, but not great delivery on the palate and a shortish finish
Definitely first growth quality, up there with the finest Pomerols. Dark fruit, chocolate and raspberry tart, soil, minerality. Bit more “Napa Valley like” without the heat. Very developed after one hour decant. I would give it a 2 to 3 hour decant. Can drink now, and arrived at its peak. Wow!

A lot has changed here since I last tasted this wine. Today, this is so sexy! It is elegant, floral, sensuous and long. Concentrated, rich and packed with ripe, dark red fruits, chocolate, and truffles, this is pure silk and cashmere on your palate. It is truly starting to drink great. If you have been waiting, give it an hour in the glass and enjoy this thrill-a-sip wine.

Spectacular wine. Really came alive after a two hour double decant. Juicy plums, cherries, some dark chocolate, stone. Sensitive to temp... ideally 18c became a bit flabby when it crept up, try an ice cube if you fall into this trap!
Unbelievably dynamic nose with many parts including dark red fruit, juicy sweet plums, licorice, black olives, herbs, tobacco and roasted coco. Palate is jammed with fruit, gorgeous structure and length, with a great grip to it that keeps it balanced. Finished is young, with unresolved tannins but fantastic length; I think upside from here as it’s primary/early secondary but already flirting with greatness!
Yes! To buy more now!

2005 is the first vintage of Trotanoy’s new winemaking era. Harvest in baskets, more sorting (and modern approach of oak too?). Juicy mixed fruits of dark plums, blackcurrant, sexy new oak spices, mint and toast. Beautiful fruit intensity. (92+/100)

A Matter of Taste: New York (The Conrad NY | Del Posto): This wine surprised me a bit. I expected to like it more than I did. It was a bit intense and perhaps a touch closed down and on the heels of a bunch of really great Bordeaux I would say it was nice, but not quite at that level today.

Tasting. After lots of air time in bottle already. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of ripe dark red cherries, blackberries, boysenberries, rich warm earth, spice box. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), firm high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of lusciously ripe dark red cherries, boysenberries, red chilli peppers, warm chocolately earth. Long finish. Very good quality. Appears closed and shut down at times though. Not worth the money if you are opening this to drink now.

2005 Right Banks, with an interloper from 2000 (Auckland, New Zealand): Ruby hue. Lifted, smokey and musky, with a hint of leaf. Beautiful palate - suave, warm and sweet from the alcohol. This has a long and gorgeous finish. Very modern in style, with no floral aspects, but plenty of (expensive) leather notes, this wine convinces in a profound manner through its quite spectacular fruit.

Couldn't resist checking one of these out. Dark ruby color. Took a couple of hour decant for it to show itself off, but it just kept getting better. Was difficult to keep my nose out of the glass, as new aromas continually revealed themselves. Ripe dark fruits, mineral, truffle, and chocolate. Creamy and full-bodied on the palate. A bit of tannic grip on the finish, but still seemed smooth all the way. This wine is still holding back big time but is going to be a clear winner in 10 more years. Can't wait to follow this one, and glad I have a number of bottles left.

Wine was unimpressive & unresponsive upon opening which being my 3rd tasting of this was surprising. After between 1-2 hours opened and in glass I am pleased to say it shone through. Very deep black and red in colour but this has evolved for sure - lovely plum and cherry with eucalyptus even menthol like aromas give way to very fruit driven and long lasting finish. It is marginally starting its evolution in maturity - plenty of time but life is short and its been 10 years so if you've got a few bottles, opening now wont make you feel guilty after tasting this wonderful wine.

Bordeaux 2005 : Ten years on (Bordeaux Index London): Shows a more evolved color than the Eglise Clinet, tasted alongside. Very powerful and iron grip like. A wine for the long haul. Serious juice. It has much power and a juicy mid palate. Large scaled without being over the top or "modern". Precise and fresh. Not the most sumptuous – see Gazin – at this stage at least, but far more interesting than, say, Eglise Clinet.

Chateau Trotanoy Dinner with Edouard Moueix - A matter of taste (Singapore): Medium-dark purple. The surprise of the evening was this wine. Excellent persistency and length.

Trotanoy Vertical (Au Jardin @ Botanic Garden): Alcohol :: 13.5% Double decanted for 30mins. This is absolutely promising with all the class and pedigree of a great Pomerol. The fruits are tightly coiled in an incredibly deep and intense package that surrounded with perfume red and blue floral scent as well as a touch of licorice and roasted herbs. Almost explosive on the palate with its highly concentrated sweet ripe dark fruits, savoriness that culminated into a mighty power punch on the mid palate yet you don't feel heavy at all. Silky tannin structure with lively acidity for the lift. The finish last nearly a min. This is a wine deserves min a decade to show. I have had a couple of 2005 Bordeaux recently and they all show great freshness which I always wanted from a great wine. 93-95

Chocoalte, red and black plums, spice box and floral notes lead to a tight, tannic, fresh, Pomerol that is not a lot of fun to drink today. Silky tannins and a refined personality, along with a good concentration of ripe, sweet fruit leads me to believe, this vintage of Trotanoy demands 6-10 years before it really opens up and comes together.

With 90 minutes of air, explosive aromas filled with licorice, chocolate, black plums, flowers, espresso and cherries almost overpower your senses. Deeply colored, concentrated and rich, this lusty, opulent, tannic, Pomerol is packed with layers of sweet, ripe plums and chocolate. Still young and tight, this wine demands another 5-8 years before it starts delivering all its decadent charms. When this Bordeaux wine fully blossoms, this could earn a higher score. There is a lot to like in this wine.

An enjoyable nose of toffee, coffee, cassis. Can go on and on. Palate equally packed w flavors and aroma very dense. Offers coffee w great density and weight. Great balance but finish seems to fall off the cliff although it does linger on mildly at the back. A great wine to try in about ten years time. Truly a complete package. Outstanding!

Beautiful bottle of wine. Didn't take more than half an hour of decanting for the nose to begin opening up. As the evening progressed, big beautiful rich and complex nose of red fruit, strawberries, vanilla, and cassis with hints of spice. Great velevety attack, beautifully wrapped tannins, hidden fruit dying to come out in this medium to full bodied wine; awesome dark ruby color with hints of purple, and a great finish. Not as complex as L'Evangile 2005 but beautiful structure and depth and just as enjoyable. Definitely stocking up on this wine.

Compares with L’Evangile 2000, Malescot St.Exupery 2005, Ducru Beaucaillou 2003.
It closed at the beginning, then slowly opens up nicely. Not so many scents but deep, clean and dramatic. More than expectation, Young ? ….I enjoy drinking it very much. Delicate tannin, full, firm but not aggressive, round, high class. The texture is young but wonderful touch with a short Gamay robust in its finish.
Aftertaste is deep sensation long finished…L’Evangile seems giving more details, more power but after I wake up early morning in the next day. Trotanoy already took my imagination away so far.
How pity I am ? I overlooked Trotanoy to buy any other Pomerol wines. Now for Pomerol, I know where my heart is.
Drink now – 2030………………..94-97/100…………………..

Tasted in November 2007, this wine combines flowers and fruit with complexity on the nose – not as immediately appealing as Hosanna. More subtle also on the palate, showing very fine tannic grain. Going back to La Fleur Petrus, the oak-derived notes seem a tad more in evidence. More mahogany like on Trotanoy. But both are subtle wines.

Le vin montre une très belle texture, c'est moderne avec un beau fruit sucré, minéral, voluptueux, frais, magnifique vin. 93-94 Je me demandais si ce n'était pas le Haut-Bailly....

香气四溢,花香果香及其奔放,入口平衡感很好,但是收尾略苦,可能是单宁过强,酸度优雅漂亮

Chateau Trotanoy Dinner with Edouard Moueix - A matter of taste (Singapore): Medium-dark purple. The surprise of the evening was this wine. I would have never expected this to be anywhere near drinkability. Nose of more red than black fruit compared to other vintages intermixed with earthy notes. On the palate very soft and drinkable. Excellent persistency and length.

What can you say. This is no way near the best Burgs. Had this after Romanée-Conti AND La Romanée. So toughest competition imaginable. Fine nose but somewhat light on its feet.

Very strong toasted oak at this moment. I never enjoy young wine but this one is hard to resist. Should open 3-4 hours before drinking.
2005 Trotanoy must be very good in the future for sure.
A great wine indeed.
I would like to drink it from 2025 - 2040+

Trotanoy Vertical (Au Jardin @ Botanic Garden): Alcohol :: 13.5%
Double decanted for 30mins.

Finally the winner of the night !!!
