  • The nose is youthful, with intense red fruit, flowers, dried soil and spice. Plush and dense on the palate, with good acidity and long finish. Feels younger than it is. Great showing.

  • Cold rainy Nite in MSP but all was good at St Genevieve tonight! This was a pristine btl stored in my cellar since release. Perhaps a bit too youthfully pristine with miles yet to go. Never achieved that full on Chambolle silk we expected.

  • Heidi's Gang: The White Burgs Reign (St. Genevieve, Mpls, MN): Dark red color. Drank a glass over an hour plus. Deep red cherry, funk, spicy, a little harsh on the medium plus bodied palate. Doesn't have the requisite elegance I'd expect.

  • Served alongside the '10. Beautiful wine. . Starting to show some secondary notes...Dark cherries, earth, hint of sous bois. Very lush and silky on the palate. Plush mouthfeel. Great balance and long silky finish. Drinking very well, but will probably continue to evolve with more time. One can certainly see the same characteristics in the 2 wines...the '10 being more structured at this time, dark fruited and will likely evolve where the '02 is at this time, once the structure mellows.

  • Thin and spicy. Clove and nutmeg. Root beer and more muted red cherry. There’s a pedigree that only emerges after 2 hours of air, it’s a spicy complexity that isn’t fruit centered but is still quite captivating. Acid and alcohol balanced tannins still firm

  • Deep Ruby with some bricking on edges

Clean, elegant, perfumed nose showing violets, raspberry, redcurrant, smoked meat and red cherry

All this on the bold , powerful full bodied palate with fruits showing sweetly and some earthy and dirty notes

    Incredibly powerful wine

  • Tasted over 3 hrs
    -med red mild bricking
-starts with some red fruit funk and faint mature elements then moves toward an earthy dark red fruit prominence and some cassis and peppery spice with air
-med acidity, med weight nicely concentrated sweet core of black cherry gum drop soil cassis licorice cherry-pit-bitterness faintly medicinal, med/med- tannins
-fantastic balance, drinking perfectly now with a lot of life left, dancing on the black fruit end of the spectrum, been sitting on this bottle for 15 years - first time tasting this classic producer and it did not disappoint

  • Another of the stash of library release bottles direct from the domaine in 2012. Opened, but not decanted about two hours before drinking. Meaty, dark cherry dominates the aromatics with a healthy dose of star anise and clove too. Dark, fallen flower petals too. Ripe and fleshy dark cherry on the palate, but still a bit reserved with a mineral steak running through. Ground spice notes too with moderate plus finish. Overall very tasty and is evoking nicely.

  • Grand cru class in a premier. Bright, big and intense

  • Usually don't open something this lofty for TG but with Covid precautions we only have Nita, son Joe & I today and sadly no extended family and our young grand boys. Plus, we decided on Cornish Hen instead of turkey and all its wine defeating sides. So why not go big? PnP and slow ox for 3 hours in Riedel Burgs & btl. Our open kitchen temp was elevated by the oven and the first sips dulled by warmth. Plus, being an '02 red Burg this benefited from a good 30 minutes in the frig. After the chill this felt and tasted much fresher, open and alive. Much better in the high 50 / very low 60s. Color medium semi translucent ruby red. Violets and light underbrush aromas. The palate was elegant and, ever so slightly, sluggish like some 02s can be. Might be the 14% alc and Vogue oak approach but 02's always seem to miss the zip of my favorite red Burg vintage, 2010. This does offer up a complex range of red fruit, spice, mineral and light sous bois. All and all, I hoped for more. Happy to drink more Vogue anytime, anywhere but I much prefer the more transparent CMs from both Roumier and Mugnier. Unfortunately, all three producers have jumped past my budget since 2010. I have one more of these that I'll hang until 2023+.

  • Chez G, opened 2 hours, dark but transparent ruby, little development; ripe dark mainly black fruit, nice minerality and spice, enthralling and layered; med, long, even more persistent, not overly concentrated, but flvours unfurled effortlessly in the mouth, quality fruit with nicely judged acid lift hide the fine tannic underpinning, early maturity. Scope for upgrade from current F+ (18)......I find these de Vogues very rewarding and wish I had more in my cellar, but they really need time to show and I'm not sure that I'll be touching my Musigny VV for some time yet on this showing of the baby prem!

  • Decanted 3 hours. Similar to my last note, this needs the air, but fills out into a relatively ripe and fuller-bodied version on Musigny with a bit of a round, ripe finish. Just a touch of roasted fruit on the nose is my only complaint. Very nice but not thrilling and today’s price requires thrilling, I think. A-

  • This is my second bottle of a case and for some reason I did not leave a note on the first - can't figure out why. Perfect fill and cork. Decanted 2.5 hours, but out of the bottle (at cellar temp) this showed closed and had a roasted element to the nose that worried me quite a bit. But with 2.5 hours in the decanter the nose was more about the dark red fruit, and this was more full-bodied and seductive than I was expecting on the palate. Expansive, with ripe tannins on the finish that are just barely noticable and frame the wine well. At 3 hours even better. Very nice with duck this evening. My only negative was there still remained a very slight roasted element on the nose, and I do not remember that from the first bottle so I hope just a slightly off element of this one. A-

  • 1er cru from master wine maker Francois Millet from times when CdV was still affordable. Beautiful bright red and typical CM aromas of red fruit, cherries, mineral w hints of mushroom, vanilla. Feminine, even sensual. Still very much vibrant and lively for 18yrs old wine. Its the forward expression of aromas which make this great while length is also impressive. Will easily age more. Benchmark for the best of red burgundy!

  • It started out as a simple night...; 4/6/2020-4/7/2020 (Secret Place): After the (free) glass of Screagle Blanc, my friend realised that a friend of his from high school was sitting a couple of tables away. He went over, chatted to his friend, and soon all four of us were on the same table. Friend's friend proceeded to share with us his bottles, the first of which was this. I have had a couple of Vogues before, but they had never impressed me (and hence it is missing from my cellar). On hindsight, I think those were opened too young. This baby was singing (it had been opened and decanted for about 2 hours). An intoxicating perfume of lovely, persistent red fruits and potpourri. In the palate, this caresses the inside of the mouth yet, at the same time, has the substance and the persistence to linger. Lovely acid, lovely structure and haunting nose and palate. This encapsulates the descriptor "peacock feathers" as it unfurled layer upon layer. My WoTN. Love this baby Musigny. My friend was floored - the best red wine he has ever had.

  • After waiting many years we finally opened this wine with a rack of lamb and it showed an astonishing level of depth that only a wine with Grand Cru fruit could. It was very long on the palate with gorgeous balance. A staggering wine and one of the wines of the year.

  • Dark, red to the edge. Floral perfume and essence of fruit. Oak is integrated showing a tiny complementary bit. Smooth, balanced, long and youthful. This has another decade of positive development ahead of it.

  • Young. Surprisingly rich, quite sucré; round, spicy, needs time. 91++ point.

  • Still evolving at glacial pace, showing primary red berry fruit and a youthful energy. A quick decant and the beautiful Chambolle silk covers the palate...bright wild berry fruits(cherry, raspberry, strawberry, currants) still with crunch and tartness, yet with subtle savoriness. Deep spices and florals are mesmerizing...dusty oak barrel, sandalwood, dried rose petals, licorice...with a faint hint of leather and sous bois as well. Wonderful lift and freshness of acidity, and a structure that will hold everything together for decades. Maybe still slightly a 1er now, but definitely GC quality with future age. A true pleasure to drink! +pts

  • Starting to drink nice but no hurry. Beautiful rich nose of red and blue fruits with a little perfume. On the palate still very tight. I would wait another couple of years then give it a good 2 hour decant.

  • 2002 Burgundy 1er Cru Lunch (Fragrance Teochew Restaurant): A solid wine, but it seem rather harder and more angular next to the beautiful pair of Amoureuses that preceded it. The nose was stunning though - with layers of sweet blue fruit, dried flowers and spice touched with more savoury tones of earth and meat. Wow. I thought the palate felt slightly tight and stubborn unfortunately. It had a good marriage of power and lovely clarity in its blue fruited notes, shading into brighter red-fruit tones on the midpalate, but it all seemed rather simpler and more angular, lacking the easy-going charm of even say the lovely, lush 2002 Vogue Amoureuses. It was firmer too, with a certain aristocratic aloofness in its cool acidity and fine-boned tannins, with the structural ribs sticking out a little amidst bittersweet herb notes on the finish. Solid, but this needs time yet. A good 5 to 6 years at least.

  • Yearly tasting event with Jean Luc Pépin from Domaine Comte George de Vogüé and Swedish importer hosting and presenting the wines from the about to be released vintage (2014) from Bonneau de Martray and Comte George de Vogüé (with some reference older vintages served to compare).
This is always a personal highlight tasting event.
Fun to read my tasting note from 2 years ago.
Not much, if merely anything, has happened since last time I had this.
Still showing very, very young and undeveloped.
Nose shows lovely ripe red berries, quite light and perfumed, with a little touch of green herbs and medicine and smoky minerals.
Palate with fine level of ripeness in the red fruit, some sweet & silky raspberries in combination with tarter red berries, (pomegranate & cranberries).
High acidity, clean with good length & structure.
Last note I made said hold for 5 years…
2 years have passed, and I would say hold for 5 years, again, so start drinking this bottles perhaps around 2020 – 2021?
    Very fine “mini Musigny”, indeed.

  • Good deep color. Not much fading. The nose shows ripe raspberry, flowers, minerals, spice and a hint of oak. This is medium full bodied on the palate, with very good concentration and lovely finesse. The long finish shows refined tannins and good acidity.

  • Perfect bottle. Stored under perfect conditions. Top fill.
Still young, transparent, somewhere between purple and ruby.
When popped and poured it is quite tight. Needs 4 hours to open up. The day after it sings (+18h).
All the classic Burgundy notes, wild strawberries, spices, roses, oak, a hint of lingonberries.
Lovely wine. After all the Vin Nature this is a bliss! Finally a decent wine! Still young, firm and a bit harsh tannins, lovely fresh acidity, to me everything is in balance though it is young. Much better now than last time I tried this back in 2010. The oak has settled down quite a bit. The tannins has settled down a bit compared with last time, yet obvious and present.
    Drinking window 2020 - 2040.

  • Burg Dinner with Friends (Gander - New York NY): Combination of black and red fruit with very good power. This wasn't given much air before pouring, and certainly came across as slightly backward as a result, but with a good spice-driven and powerful finish.

  • Vibrant, medium red in glass. Very pure pinot fruit showing rasberry more than cherry, touch of mint, minerals. A precise wine, with Chambolle elegance and femininity. Not hedonistic. Perhaps a bit cerebral, but certainly enjoyable. Re-tasted on 2nd day and found it to have evolved more than expected: still with sweet fruit but more oxydized than expected for a 2002. A fine 1er cru.

  • Comte Georges de Vogüe and Domaine Bonneau du Martray tasted with Jean-Luc Pépin: Ripe red cherry on the nose, tomato, cherry tomatoes, a rich perfume of Persian rugs and hides, plum tomato. Still very young on the palate, strong acidity, plenty of citrus fruits mixed with secondary notes. Intriguing but very challenging. Needs time. Outstanding but no scores today. N/R

  • Another bottle of this lovely cru tonight.
Nose is airy and light, sexy and feminine, displaying fine minerals and raspberries.
On the palate this is surprisingly young, big with tart red berries, cranberries, lingonberries, raspberries.
Still shows fat and oily fruit, with very high and fine acidity, fine & fat tannins and a big concentrated and structured body.
    Very fine indeed.
Still needs time, as this is showing very young at 12 years of age.
Will level out and be a real beauty in about 5 years.
    93 solid points for tonight.

  • Opened and decanted for 30 minutes. Dark red. What a nose! Pure chambolle, full of red forest fruit and minerals. On the palate this wine is full and very rich, oozing strawberries, cherries, luden's cough drops, and leather. Oaky but well balanced. Nice backbone without being edgy, and the finish lasts 45 seconds easily. Really very nice, and considerably better the bottle I opened last year.

  • Still very young, but with tons of upside potential. Started off very tight on the nose but the palate was silky and refined with plenty of depth. Classic chambolle flavours. Over time and with food the wine improved considerably and it stodd up to the food much better than the more filigree Vogues on the evening.

  • Dark. Great balance and length. Much more open than the last bottle opened 4 years ago. Lush with great texture. Excellent acidity...a very good wine that should continue to blossom with time in the bottle.

  • Held its own against stiff competition in the flight. As always, this is a wine to appreciate, and can be purchased in any vintage.

  • Fairly rustic but clean nose, dominated by dark fruit and some mature notes of leather (very faint). You can also sense the acidity on the nose. First whiff was Rhone'ish, but not as bad as in recent vintages of this producer. Full bodied with a sweet and heavy core of fruit behind the adifity. The wine is in balance, but 14% alcohol in a premium cru is just too much. It masks the elegance of fruit. I was not near guessing Chambolle (got it blind) but went to Nuit St Georges (sout of town) or Gevrey, due to the rustic, tannic and full bodied expression of this wine. Just reinforces my notion about Vogue and their style of winemaking. I' rather buy Mugnier, Roumier and Ghislaine Barthod for the lightness of fruit, but that's just me.

Frisk syre. Bløte tanniner. Fruktig utgang. Flott lengde.

  • Best of the last 3 bottles I've had of this wine. Excellent dark red fruits on the nose with strawberries and raspberries dominating, subtle hints of spice, flowers and earth. Lush entry on the palate, fat on the mid palate, nice balance, not overly complex but very mineral, fresh and gratifying, nice slightly spicy finish but requires further refinement through another few years in bottle. At just under $200 a bottle, better options prevail in Bordeaux for my taste.

  • Plenty of dense fruit for a 11 year old village wine; very nicely balanced with some dark cherry flavours present. Opened and decanted 3 hours earlier. Fantastic length. This was a delight with duck confit and slow cooked red cabbage, and then by itself afterwards. I reckon this wine will retain its fuller, current characteristics for a good few years. I wish I had more of this to see how it maps out over the next decade plus - current average scoring of about 92 is pretty accurate but it should get higher scores in the next few years - this wine is a good Burgundy, no mistaking.

  • Much better on the nose than the palate. Red berries, strawberry compote, earth, leather and minerality on the nose, the palate leaves you a bit disappointed. Medium bodied, slightly thin compared to bottles I had a couples of years ago. To be retested in a couple of years.

  • Popped and poured. Library release. Consistent with past bottles that had little to no breathing time. Still very good, but air time is critical right now to make it really sing.

  • fully loaded and ready to please, this just shined from the outset; there was a mouthful of complexity and lot of depth and seemingly some decent balance; it had great acidity and a bounty of fresh dark fruit with some baking spices blended in to make this a most satisfying treat which got better and better with time; certainly, one of my favs of the day of many red Burgs and sets up for a highly anticipated return about 10 years down the line.

  • Library release. Opened and decanted roughly two hours before serving and drank over another 90 minutes or so. Very powerful, yet elegant aromatics. Red cherry, crushed dark red berries with some hints of brown spice and pretty floral. Dense fruit, spice and floral on the palate as well with a firm backbone. Medium plus body with a long finish. Great wine!

  • Another Library Release bottle. Served alongside the 02 Musigny. Much the same as the previous bottles had the past few months. Air is really critical for these wines. The glass I put aside and came back to 3 or so hours later opened up quite a bit and was fantastic, though definitely overshadowed by the Musigny.

  • Great next to the same vintage Musigny. More feminine, forward, and red. Sexy wine, and anything it might lack in nuance is made up for in it's sheer attractiveness. Very drinkable, though will certainly mature.

  • Another Library Release bottle. Popped and poured. Dark, dense cherry and berry nose. Darker floral tones and a bit of clove. Very powerful. Palate started out quite firm, but started to soften after 30 minutes or so. Core of deep, red fruit and sweet earth. Great acidity and a lengthy finish. Over the 45 minutes we drank this the nose and palate kept unfolding more and more, but clearly needed a long decant.

  • Opened 1 hour prior to serving and drank over another 2 hours. Very pretty nose of sweet cherries, roses and just a touch of minerality. Dark cherries on the palate with a bit of wood and some iron notes. Fullish and sweet in the mouth. The medium finish had just a touch of tannin. Somehow this seemed a little reserved from what I was expecting but this will continue to develop and I look forward to trying this again in a few years.

  • Comte de Vogue Dinner with Jean-Luc Pepin (Les Nomades, Chicago IL): Domaine Library Release. Opened about 3 hours before serving. Quite similar to the other library release bottled opened about two weeks ago. Lots of structure and dark cherry and berry notes. Very concentrated with a lengthy finish.

Another library release bottled had been opened about 9 hours earlier and I got to try some of that as well. This wine, while sharing much of the same flavor profile, had much softer tannins, but by no means less concentrated. I really look forward to seeing how this develops.

  • Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Dinner with Jean-Luc Pepin (Les Nomades - Chicago IL): Domaine library release. Again i tasted from two bottles, one open 3+ hours before serving, the 2nd 9 hours earlier, then mostly consumed with 1/3 bottle remaining. Very similar fruit and spice profiles on both bottles. Boysenberry, black cherry aromas with fresh tarragon. Similar fruit on palate, but the first bottle had that fruit slightly hidden behind firm tannins today ("91 points"). Second bottle came across an longer, more integrated and even more concentrated ("93 points"). No surprise that this will take so long to emerge from it's shell given that it is baby Musigny.

  • Two bottles opened from the same case. A library release from the Domaine. Popped and poured. Virtually identical to the bottle opened about 10 days ago, but these showed a bit tighter as they did not have the benefit of air. Lots of structure and firm dark berry fruit. There is a long life ahead.

  • Mini Comte de Vogue Dinner (Yusho, Chicago IL): Library Release from the Domaine shipped in about 5 weeks ago. Opened about 2.5hours before trying and not decanted. Not giving much on the nose or palate at first and needed a good hour or so to start opening up. Very firm, muscular red and black berry fruit and plum on the nose with espresso, bitter chocolate, and almost a tobacco leaf-like quality. The palate had the same mix of red and black fruits with a firm core of minerality. Amazing concentration with a deep, sweet core of fruit. There was an amazing amount of structure here. Medium plus body and finish. Fantastic acidity all throughout. I have a few of these from the original release as well so it will be interesting to see how they age compared to these library releases. Clearly the wine with the longest life ahead of it tonight.

  • Dark red in color, nose of sweet red cherries and a bit of cotton candy still there. Medium palate that is not as enjoyable as the nose, a tad too simple, tannins well resolved and a tad lean on fruit. The nose is saying the wine is still very young but the palate is saying something else. Not very balanced or structured, after 4 hours in glass the nose is still cotton candy while the palate is fading, don't know where this wine is heading.

  • At Delmonico's in Vegas. Gorgeous Chambolle nose of sweet cherries and seduction as I knew right away this was just flat out incredible Burgundy that I was about to drink. On the palate, precision like minerals and intensty with sweet pinot fruit just lingering on a very long finish. Really sexy wine that you beg for more after each sip. This is entering it's drinking window and will last for probably another 20+ years... Amazing wine.

  • Splash decanted. This was on point virtually from first glass to last. Yes, there's a cinnamon spice likely imparted from the barrels but it adds a lip-smacking element. The fruit is sappy and dense, very elegant red berry fruit that wraps up slightly short with refined, ripe tannin. Nary an edge to be found. Hopefully this continues to fan out on the finish with time in bottle. Much better than the 2001 which I also liked.

  • Dark with a creaminess , cherries and spice on the nose. Good acidity and fruit, but fell a bit short on the mid-palate initially. Good length. This was a controversial wine. I think the wine has closed up, as it showed much better a couple of years ago. Wait 10 years to open the next one.

  • Burgundy and pinot noir (Wink Wine Bar): What a great vintage the 2002 is. Tasted with a 2002 Jadot Les Baudes, these wines will be very fine indeed in a few years. The favorite of a chambolle flight, the wine was dark, pretty, and powerful. Great structure, with tight and bright fruit, and some notes of vanilla, maple, and minerals. Potent, and will drink well in ten years, or decant and enjoy a very young fine wine with food, which it needs.

Nose of sweet cherries reflected on the palate. Good balance. I asked Rica what she smelled and she replied, "It's like when your first girlfriend invites you to her room and shows you her jewellery box. That's the smell." Er............ How's that again? Japanese women are kjnky!

  • Hmmm. I was expecting more. A little too acidic for my taste, at least at this point. Just didn't have the juicy, kirsch-y, flavors that I look for in a good red Burg. And a big shot of acid. Good, but just not great. I'm going to lay off the rest for a while, but I'm surprised that it isn't ready to roll, now. Maybe closed down.....
