Dinner at SSG. Dark red fruit, spicy stems, dense and silky. This is lighter in weight vs the 12, but more correct as the 12 was corked. With air this gained posture, seriousness and depth, became fuller and longer. Delicious.

Great bouquet, masculine Chambolle; dark fruit, spices and herbs. Pronounced acidity, deep and elegant dark fruit, hints of liquorice and blueberries. Pure, complex and refined. Lengthy finish and lengthy life ahead. +10 more years, but don't be afraid to pop now but give plenty of air

Gorgeous silky nose, red-centric with a frame of thyme and mint. Red fruits, some candied touches, redcurrant and cassis. Has a coolness and a dark focus. Very fine. So delicate and some playful (almost Douro) aromatics. Great nose.
Lovely and supple on the palate, finely grained grip, leads to a savoury and stylish, focused finish though not as complex as the nose suggests. Sandy and spicy, great appeal and delicious fruit.

Had this right before the 2018 Dujac Bonnes Mares and liked this way more than the Dujac. Very silky smooth, elegant, and clean. Everyone who had it really liked it. Possible the 2018 Dujac just needs more time but I really enjoyed this Roumier.

Taste Coravined from a new bottle, so it hadn’t had time to breathe. Feral nose with an iron core has a lot of intensity early on. The palate is red-fruited, but muted. With air, the nose lost intensity as well and never really opened back up. Seems shut down, but I suspect the future is bright with 92-95 point potential

on the nose straight forward, honest and naked. doesnt hide behind anything. red fruited. very fresh and elegant. very tiny hints of tertiary aromas (sous bois).
rustical and austere on the palate, still light red fruits, elegance, honest, high acidity, good drinkflow, but as it is rather rustical and „lacks“ complexity. but really long. the tannins stay long. this can become great.
decanting before drinking recommended

Village Burgundy at 67PM (67 Pall Mall, London): Pale/medium garnet. Youthful, raspberries and cranberries, smoke, herbal. Medium bodied, quite lean and firmly tannic at thus stage, vibrant acidity, constrained on finish. Needs more time but the jury’s out on this one.

It was disappointing to see the label of Roumier with this rating. Dark ruby, agree with other comments with modern nose, but very shy. The palate was little rough though. Considering the price, it supposed to be much better, probably open in the next 3 years.

Chambolle / Volnay: Slightly modern nose with some unintegrated oak at first, but became more elegant after half an hour or so. Had a lovely silky expression of red fruit, and it was such a persistent and driven wine. Very delicious but lacked depth so correctly identified as a Roumier or Mugnier village, but I went for a warmer vintage like 09 or 12. After a few hours it didn't show as well, seemed to become disjointed and candied.

Think I am quite agreeable about the level of this wine at 91-92 points, which is a great score for village wine but at almost USD500/bottle, this has failed to make sense for a long time I think. I will not go near Roumier at these prices.

Forward raspberry nose with just a touch of roses; wood is still hanging around a little, but does not distract. Very pure. Viscous mouth feel, great acidity that is balanced by very intense flavour (for village Chambolle). Long pure finish. Drinking well enough now but will get better. I’ll try again in 3 years or so.

Very pure fruit. Some oak still showing. Cherry, and maybe some plum. More full-bodied than I remembered from the last bottle I had. Certainly very good, but I have one bottle left, which I’d like to hold for another 5-10 years in hopes it develops some more complexity.

young medium purple color, polished plummy nose, cherry and oak, on the palate an attractive buttery young Pinot fruit, good long finish, very primary and clean, while this wine has historically been uncommonly long lived and often very closed in youth- I am surprised to not yet see any hints of the lovely game and earth notes that are the hallmark of this fine and often underestimated vintage, time will tell.

Quite pronounced nose with the chambolle cool dark fruits, mushroom, sweet spices. On palate it's very delicious with minerals, cherries and strawberry notes. Very fine tannins and silky mouthfeel. It turned more earthly in the next 5 hours but developed more complexity. I will revisit in a few more years to see its development. I will recommend to consume this in 3 hours at this stage before the fruits faded.

There is something beautifully seductive about Roumier's Chambolles. Beautiful red fruit coming through, and his wines always just seem to dance on the tongue, even though there is undoubtedly some backbone.
Excellent village wine, and I'm a sucker for the style. Many people complain about the price of entry, which I'm inclined to agree with - but that's Burgundy for you these days, and sometimes when you get that itch for a particular producer's style, you just can't help yourself.

PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Leaf” day): Pale ruby with purplish hues.
Red wild berry fruits like strawberries, sandalwood. Florals. With some time in glass more meat and then smoke. More darker red and bluish cherry fruits. Powdery cosmetics too.
Concentrated fruits without weight. Super suave tannins. Incredibly minerality.
94 points easy.
Second round, about 2 hours since open: so much more details on the purplish cherries with the extra lift of red berries that sets this apart. Upgrade to 94-95 points.
Third round, about 2.5 hours since open: remains largely the same per last round.
Fourth round, about 3 hours since open: about 1/5 left, more cocoa and coffee notes. Even more black plummy fruits now.
Fifth round, about 3.5 hours since open: last few pours, ultra mineral and again more purplish berries here. More like 95 points now.
Final round, 4 hours since open: final pour, ultra concentrated and ethereal red cherries. Smoke, cocoa. 95 points solid.

Potpourri of Wines from an Autumn Trip to France; 10/9/2018-10/24/2018 (Paris, Lyon, Beaune, Reims): Central light ruby, complete clarity. This opened with explosive crushed strawberry, but with time, menthol became more prominent, and the cooler elements and red berry fruit equilibrated beautifully. Some floral tones as well. Light weight, clay base, crisp acidity and plenty of soil to balance the fruit. This began to close down, suggesting that that gorgeous fruit might be ready for a slumber, but this is absolutely mind's eye Chambolle in its delicacy and fragrance. Interesting to compare to the '15 Barthod Chambolle village, which I also loved but would never call classic.

Hastily Arranged Chambolle Musigny Flight (San Francisco): Opened last night. Bright purple tinge. Less hefty than the 2014 Vogüe village, and by my recollection, less sappy and more angular than the 2012 Roumier village. Crisp, tart black and red fruit with a touch of florality and some stoniness. The structure is driven by the acidity, which will need a good few years to fold into the wine completely. Precise and fine.

PnP, then followed over four days non-blind next to M. Ruch's Choelle of the same vintage. Ruby color, with purple hues, clear. Airy and floral nose, cherries and raspberries and also aromatic herbs. On day 2 it became more elegant and lightly sweet, with hints of lavender. Beautiful and it kept going until the fourth day. On the palate it gets immediately serious, but not too much, in fact it soon shows even some roundness. Then moves on deep mineral notes and one feels the extraction, which carries the wine onto a long finish. Beautiful. On day two it lost a bit of its roundness on the midpalate and has become more centered on its mineral side. It was now on an even better shape than on day one. It was still great on day four, more acidity-driven, but still balanced and flavorful.

Roumier's Chambolle is to wine what Hemmingway was to literature. There's no artifice, not an element is wasted or there without reason. It is direct and of the highest quality. This '14 has a stony base on which pretty cherry fruit plays. There are root vegetable and rhubarb notes connecting the drinker directly to the earth. It is savoury, minerally, balanced and utterly delicious.
DIVA Burgundy Tasting (Maison Champy - Beaune): Tasting, brief note. Racked 2 days ago. Bright red berry and cherry with lots of density for its level. Spice opens up from start to finish. VG+ for its level.

Domaine Roumier Cellar Visit and Tasting: From barrel. Bright red berry on nose and palate with good energy, great texture and Chambolle minerality. Good spice throughout, but most notably on finish. VG+ potential for its level.
