Crimson in color. 14.3% ABV. Pretty nose of red fruits, baking spices, earth and flowers. Medium body with exquisite acidity. Big, rich and full of earthy fruits. Cherry, cranberry, pomegranate and minerals on the palate. Nice length on the finish. Stunning Pinot Noir that has aged well. Certainly ready to drink.

Fairly primary notes on the nose and palate of cherry, strawberry, sandalwood and vanilla. Slightly tart on the entry; round and smooth on the finish. Went well with pork tenderloin. Good but not great; both aromatics and flavors fairly muted at this stage.

The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. It smells like strawberry, strawberry jam, mushroom, cherry and rose. It tastes like strawberry, mushroom and cherry. The body is medium/full. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

This benefited from 90 min in the glass. Fruit forward new world pinot that is still youngish. Nice balance and finish. This will easily drink well for 5 plus years.

Jmottern nailed the notes (black cherry, spices, and a really smooth and lingering raspberry finish) but I had this scored a bit higher than they did in their review. Lone bottle purchased a auction about five years ago..It was wonderful. Wish I had bought more. Really liking mist 14’s these days.

It has been 3 years since we last tasted this vintage. Decanted ~1 hour. Nose of bright cherry and strawberry with hints of vanilla, earth and caramel. Fruit has mellowed slightly in the mouth. Some earth and baking spices. Still has some years left if you want but this is drinking beautiful right now.

Decanted for almost 2 hours. Aromas of cherry, strawberry, rhubarb, mushroom and a hint of earth. Flavors of cherry, strawberry, rhubarb and hint of sassafras. Ends with a 25-30 second finish with a big cherry note. Aged quite well and more like a Williams Selyem than a Kosta Browne.

Great night with friends and good wine- KB, Vieux chateau Certan, L Barton and Scarlett Reserve.
No notes and mainly enjoyed by our wives however it was enjoyable. Has more time to develop without losing its essence of great big red fruit and overall profile.
Of course it is solid. It has more time in bottle if you'd like, since it needed a good amount of air. A little heavyhanded sometimes (ripeness, vanilla oak, body), but it is still delicious. Really only held back by its price.

Gave it an hour to breathe before trying it. Tons of dark fruit, but kept a juicy profile versus sweet & cloying. A little cola mid palate and then a nice finish of forest floor.
8/5/2022 This just ticks all the boxes for me when it comes to a CA style Pinot. Loads of fruit, rich and lucious, but then tannin and acidity grabs hold before you think syrupy.
10/3/2023 Fruit is still coming on strong, but noted lack of complexity in the finish so maybe this one is on the backside of its prime.

An excellent PN but not the flavor profile that I prefer. Just a little to much blackberry vs bing/strawberry. And a touch too big. But of course still a very nice wine

Crimson in color. 14.3% ABV. Gorgeous nose of red fruits, cloves, baking spices and forest floor. Medium body with exquisite acidity. Rich and plush with opulent fruits. Bing cherry, black raspberry, sarsaparilla and minerals on the palate. The finish is long and supple. Delightful Pinot Noir that is showing exceptionally well. Best over the next 1-2 years.

Excellent bottle of wine. After three hour decant, loads of dark fruit. Begins with deep cherry and raspberry and moves to blackberry, dark fruit flavors, with a bit of cola thrown in. Aroma and flavors finish with a touch of spice. Very well rounded and lush - while at cellar temperature. When the wine warms in the glass, it begins to get dryer and a touch astringent, but not unpleasant.

PnP, consumed over a 2 hour period. Cherry, plum, and blackberry aromas and flavors with a light toasty note. Nicely integrated, medium bodied, with medium tannins and a polished mouthfeel and a long finish.
This KB has evolved nicely over the past 3+ years, mellowing in astringency and softening in mouthfeel. On the whole, this wine is drinking really beautifully now and will likely continue to improve for the next few years. I'd have no issue drinking my remaining bottles now or seeing how it evolves over the next 3-5 years.
Anecdotally, my last tasting was in 12/2016--when my notes indicate I found it okay, but a bit harsh/disjointed and needing cellar time. It's fair to say that this wine is dramatically better with the added cellar time since 2016.

A nose of cherries and spice, medium amber in color. A medium to full bodied Pinot, with blueberry, black cherry, some acidity and spice on finish, very good, drink now. www.winelx.com
Wow, this was spectacular. And to be fair, I am not a huge PN fan, but tonight I was outnumbered 3:1. Everyone said this was an Exceptional PN. I tried it and thought it was the best PN I’ve ever had (take with a grain of salt though).

PnP, cellar temp. Clear, bright ruby/purple, long legs. Full body nose. This drank exceptionally well. I run hot and cold on some the non SVD labels but this was excellent. Med body, typical KB Pinot traits of red fruit, cola, slight earth. Fully integrated and balanced, in it's prime. Wonderful RR Pinot and for sure a crowd pleaser. Soft but full flavored. Nothing off. $71 winery direct.

Kosta Browne wines are generally consistent year to year. Nice cherries on the palate. This is very similar to my prior tastings of the Russian River from 2013 back to 2011.

Yes, it’s a big black cherry fruit bomb. Uh, is that a surprise? Anyone who doesn’t already know this shouldn’t be buying Kosta Browne. Get off the hipster bandwagon and enjoy it for what it is.

Not my favorite Kosta Browne. VERY fruit forward, lush and very sweet black cherry with very light tannins. The word “syrupy” comes to mind. I guess this is what people mean when they say a wine tastes extracted. Brief finish, and all I can recall of the flavor is cherry juice. Wondering what I am missing given the high scores of others. I can’t match those scores given my disappointment with this wine.
Update: I opened the wine on the second night, hoping for improvement. I poured a glass for my son, who has a good palate. His comment: “This tastes like communion wine.” I think that summarizes my feelings about this offering from KB.

Consistent with my previous tasting note. Not overdone or extracted like many other KB Pinots. They got it right with this vintage. Still very new world in style, however. In a good drinking window.

Opened at Bestia in DTLA. The nose greets you with aromas of cherries and roses. The palate features notes of dark cherries, raspberries, plums, toast, vanilla, and light spices. Smooth, lush, and delicious. Tannins are low, acid is medium, alcohol medium+

I was right in my last review. This wine needed a little more time. It now drinks well -- it is as good as CA pinot gets. Superb, complex and interesting. Nice fruit, mellowed tannins and acid. Well balanced. Pleasing to all sorts of levels of tasters.

Well-made and balanced with a blend of berries on the palate and sweet floral notes on the nose. This appellation bottling lacks the depth or distinctive characteristics found in single vineyard bottles and works in harmony but at the same time is a bit underwhelming.

Pretty hot and jammy, the savory / sous bois characteristics were buried beneath an inferno of red fruit with evident high alcohol. Only one night of experience, albeit over several hours, but this was disjointed to me, and agree with recent commenters of this wine lacking personality. Only the long finish made clear the pedigree.

Plenty fine in the darker, riper, more structured style. Lots of red and dark cherry fruit, maybe a whiff of alcohol. Palate is nicely ripe and smooth but still with some structure, light tannins. These are powerful Pinots, this is drinking nicely at 5 years old. Certainly not as fine as others I've had from KB though.

Heavier and more concentrated than the 2014 SLH. Cherry cola, raspberry, and spice notes. Still slightly hot on the finish. Followed the better balanced, less concentrated SLH, and definitely prefer the SLH right now. This one seems better equipped for the long haul and needs a little more bottle time for max enjoyment.

Opened this along with a 2015 bottle of the same wine and the 2014 was everybody’s favorite. There is more going on, with ripe red raspberry and red cherry flavors along with some interesting cedar flavors from the oak. The 2015 was more monolithic and less layered, with sweetish cherry and black berry flavors. Both wines were delicious but the 2014 was a lot more interesting. Hard to tell whether it’s the vintage or just more time in the bottle.

Medium translucent ruby in color. Aromas of raspberry, root beer, cinnamon, caramel, and crème brûlée. Concentrated on the palate but with good acidity and flavors of raspberries and licorice leading to a long finish featuring fine grained tannins. Made with only 2% whole clusters then aged 15 months in 44% new French oak. Typical Russian River Valley fruit done up in Kosta Browne style. 14.3% ABV.

Feel like this one is in its awkward phase. Nose is solid with the typical hint of cherry, dark red fruits and some spice. When it hits the palate, however, it seems to lack identity. I get more plum and licorice flavors but lose the spice with the cherry becoming much softer than expected. In addition there is definitely some heat at the end. Mellowed over time but never fully came together. Not nearly as jammy as other KBs (neither a good or bad quality, just an observation). I will hold off on having another bottle for a year or so. Scored a 90 but really don’t know where it is going right now.
Update: Day 2 had a glass and no change. Slightly more straightened out but really this bottle just is in an awkward place. Hold what you have for now.

This has to be an off bottle. I love KB, but this was an overextracted mess of a wine. The nose was normal, but the finish was grape juice concentrate and ended slightly sour. Bummed.

This wine is a classic Kosta Browne wine. Full bodied, a bit sweet; lots of big fruit. Day two is a bit calmer, which might suggest more time in the cellar would be wise. Still a nice, CA pinot that might generally be a bit too big and heavy for what I like in pinot.

I’ve always wondered about the difference between the KB Sonoma and Russian River Pinots, so I decided to taste them side-by-side. My basic conclusion: they are remarkably similar, with very small differences that can be hard to detect. Both are candied, rich, and sweet. The RRV is a bit thicker and rounder, but they are both powerful and ripe wines that don't have a lot of structure (or nuance).
It would be very difficult to confuse these wines as being from anyone other than Kosta Browne. On the other hand, it would be very easy to confuse these wines with each other (as I did more than a few times). With that said, here are the notes for each:
- Sonoma Coast: Cranberry in color and medium in body, the SC offers aromas of plum, red licorice, and pomegranate. Tastes of raspberry, candied walnuts, and rock candy, with a sweet finish. 14.4% alcohol. Became thin and even juicier on second day.
- Russian River Valley: A little paler in color but just as medium in body, the RRV offers a lighter nose of cranberry, black licorice, and rock candy. Tastes of cranberry, black licorice, and Jolly Rancher, with a similarly sweet finish. 14.3% alcohol. Gained a sourness on the second day, which was an improvement.
I give the slight edge to the RRV, which seems a bit more relaxed in its power, while the SC seems a bit more forced (and faded significantly on the second day). More generally, though, I haven't had these appellation wines in a few years, and I was shocked at their sugariness (this could be their youth, but I get the sense this was by design). I've enjoyed the single vineyards from KB, but these appellation wines seem a bit generic - and a bit disappointing.
This was impressive right from the start. While I was expecting the typical RR bright red cherry normalcy I get from RR pinots this was more elegant and supple that most Sonoma wines I've tasted. Rich, layered with just the right amount of red fruit with some licorice in it as well. Long finish, highly pleasurable wine from Kosta Browne. Glad I have more!

Of the bottles we purchased, this was the best. Lots of red fruits that are in balance with spice and a bit of oak. Good nose and finish as well. I am finding that I enjoy the generic K-B pinots every bit as much as the vineyard designated wines.

Generic big overripe, Cherry cola fruit bomb. Silky mouthfeel, to be sure. A tad medicinal, not enough acid & not much complexity. A thud compared the W-S side by side, and not even the same beverage class as the Myriad Syrah. YMMV.

Black cherry fruit. Not as much sweet cola flavor as in vintages past- more baking spice, and a bit more demure. Not sure if this change is reflective of the vintage, or in wine making philosophy. Very nice, drinking well now.

It is always a pleasure when you are absolutely certain of the quality and excellence you will find in a bottle before you open it. This RRV appellation offering from Kosta Brown epitomizes the consistency and reliability of their craft. Perfect weight and structure with beautiful fruit but always within balance and structure. Outstanding mouth feel and silky entry with primary red berries and cherry notes. Most single vineyard offerings would like to achieve this level of excellence. Really a perfect pleasure to enjoy.

Very enjoyable and interesting to see this wine evolve over time. It has become far more integrated with the dark and red fruit still on display, however not as prominent. The wine has gained a bit more heft over time but is still a perfect weight and structure. The mouth feel is amazing as it covers the palate with flavor. I noted less spice notes than indicated by my prior notes, but clearly this has put all the pieces of the puzzle together. I have one more and hope to enjoy it in 2019 to complete a four year tasting horizon. Great appellation wine to be sure.

This wine was a strong and surprising 95! Dark ruby with bright red highlights. No decanting before drinking; probably about 60 degrees when served and it improved immensely over the next 15 minutes as it warmed and fully opened. Cherries, blackberries and other sumptuous fruit on the nose. Strong and full bodied on the palate with fruit and wood mixed well together. A hint of earthiness and smoke on the finish. This wine is complex and well integrated for such a young Pinot. I have 1 additional bottle and I think I'll buy a few more of this. It would go great with chicken and some steaks. We actually had a Kanpachi Crudo for an appetizer and it was pretty good with the heirloom tomato vinegarette. However, with the meat lovers pizza it was fabulous!

Lovely Burgundy color with a bouquet and flavor of cherries, raspberries, and Pinot Noir spiciness, mixing dry brown sugar and dilute allspice. Very well balanced but with limited depth. Moderate body and finish. Very pleasant and much better than the average overhyped and overpriced Burgundy. Sometimes KB Pinots can be too fruit forward and ripe with low acidity for my liking, but this bottle seemed much more in balance that some recent vintages I have tried. There is some lively acidity and the color is appropriately translucent medium ruby. The typical cherry, rose petal and spice are there but not overdone in terms of ripeness or extraction. This was a pleasant surprise for me.

Very nice offering from KB coming into its own. Beautiful red and dark fruit mingle and are framed by spice notes. A little nervous to open up such a young wine, especially a KB. However, to my delight, this is just so stellar right now. Very well balanced between fruit and acidity and there is just a little astringency present with the tannins, but not off putting. The bouquet on this is addictive, not too much heat and just such a classic earthy pinot. Bright red bing cherries, spice, and some classic cola which lets you know it's KB - Great wine! 93.5 with upside potential!

A beautiful perfume of black raspberries, red fruit, lavender, and pastille erupt from the glass. Long, broad, and textured, with sweet, plump fruit on the attack. My first KB. Tight with only mild fruit at first, it slowly opened up after an hour or so to more pronounced fruit and a only a little earth in the back end. Very well balanced. Moderate to moderate plus complexity. Could easily use more time in bottle. Enjoyed it, but not sure it was worth what I paid for it.
As usual, this is a fantastic offering from Kosta Browne...full of clove and cinnamon spice to offset the sweet cherry cola body. Drinking well now, no need to wait

Really good pinot. Had a guests that loves wine and this was WOTY for guests compared to EL 2012 seven springs la source that I gave higher score to. Personally, I love KB and this is a pretty although not the best representation. It is hard not to understand how the powerful nose, balanced fruit, and power coupled with delicacy of pinot and the amazing spice-filled finished would not blow people away. It did. Always nice to see people's first reactions to KB pinots.

Update to notes, after 3 hours it really showed traditional KB Pinot characteristics of red berry fruit and hints of cola. Very nice, enjoyed the entire evening. Recommend if u have a lot to drink, open 1 bottle a yr to see the evolution of the wine and when it hits peak for your palette, or if u have a few bottles - hold off at least 1-2 yrs and u will be rewarded, but u will be tempted to pop them open

750ml; PnP; Appearance is dark, opaque crimson, closer to syrah than pinot. Nose of dark red fruits and cola; Flavors of dark red raspberry cola with slight herbs tossed in. Acidity is okay for now. This is a nice fruity drink - granted it is only 2 yrs old. Maybe it will age well - the fruit will diminish with time and secondary flavors will come out? Time will tell. Still, pretty sure this is not my style pinot. Hoping my Sonoma Coast will be more entertaining.

Decanted 30 minutes. Shows an almost Zinfandel like nose with notes of baking spice and boysenberry to go along with dark cherry. Full bodied Pinot with very good fruit intensity but is not too heavy. Dark cherry and black raspberry fruit profile. Long finish with smooth tannins. Quite approachable at this early stage. Probably not one for Burgundy enthusiasts but an excellent Pinot that should only get better over the next 5 years or so. Don't think my remaining bottles will survive that long! (92+)

You either are a big fan of KB Pinot or not. I happen to fall in the big fan arena. When an "appellation" wine consistently tastes superior to a majority of single vineyard wines from other producers you have to be doing something right. Rich, ripe dark fruit- yes opulent, but what the hell. I know my Burgundy lovers may shake their head, but this is exceptional juice. Lasting on the palate, spice laden and complex and a finish you can't see the end of.

Paired next to a Paul Hobbs RRV 2013. Pnp with sushi. The Kosta had a lovely nose with raspberry fruit and baking spice (although closed relative to the Paul Hobbs) the palate was tightly wound with cherry and brown sugar. Great weight/density and presence of fruit, this wine toes the balance between elegance and power, with a bit of a sweet edge. Needs a couple years in the bottle for full expression

Shipment arrived and had to open one while allowing the others to settle. This has meaningful potential with time. A little tight and tart at the moment but I suspect that matures in time. Dark, cherry color in the glass. Nice nose where I agree with other comments that it delivers red berry on the nose, some spices emanating from the oak and a hint of vanilla. Overall, I really like the potential. Nice job, KB.

Coravin pour, which won't do the wine justice as I've always felt these pinots need a decent amount of air. So beautiful to look at in the glass, with a rich, dark cherry color. Nose is a red berry fruit medley, with hints of spice and a flowery component. As I would somewhat expect, it's pretty tart and tannic at the moment. Not really open for business. Very fruit forward and concentrated as always. Medium to full bodied. Not sure about the structure here, as it seems fairly one dimensional. I'd recommend waiting at least a year before popping the cork.

Concentrated on the palate but with good acidity and flavors of raspberries and licorice leading to a long finish featuring fine grained tannins.

Amazing fruit forward Pinot Noir with a blend of cherry and strawberry notes. Ridiculously smooth immediately out of the bottle. Good wines ahead if this is what we should look forward to in the KB 2014 vintage.

Drunk while Hurricane Irma was battering the West Florida Coast, with our prayers for all the people in her path.
