Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of cassis, white flowers, plums, cherries and raspberries. Flavors of raspberries, plums and cherries. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink over the short to perhaps medium term.

Deep red big body wine. Very slow to open up. Limited nose and OK but not memorable fruit. Several days later I drank the other half of the bottle that had been kept in a sealed wine carafe. The wine had gotten better. However, both times the wine did not meet expectations.

Jumps out of the glass with plums, blackberry, blueberries, cinnamon, brown sugar, vanilla, sweet mint. Flavors of fresh blackberry, cherry, baking spices, cedar, and cherry. Was worth the cellar time as it’s entering its prime and should be peaking in 2-5 years!

Decanted and drank. Aromas of blackberry, currant, cherry vanilla and a touch of earth. Flavors of blackberry, currant, touch of cherry and touch of iron. Ends with a currant infused finish of 20+ seconds. This was certainly served too cool even though I pulled it out of the cellar the night before. Might have to raise that 60 degree house temp at 5pm to 4pm to accommodate on the ecobee.

Bright and sturdy in style, this is expressive of its Alexander Valley roots. Currant and blueberry aromas over hints of dust, earth, leather, and cola. The dark berry and mocha flavors are upfront and approachable but counterbalanced by robust tannin and nice integration. Wet stones glide through the finish. Hits its sweet spot at the 3-hour mark. Nicely done.

With burgers. This was the last bottle, and I think the time was right. Has developed a bit more, not as simple. Rich dark berries and plums, some berry leaf aromas in the mix, gaining a bit of leathery and tobacco notes. At 6 years, probably could go and even improve for a few more. Much as these are made to be "drink now" pleasers, even the most basic style of good Cab probably benefits from more patience than we give it.

Color: red purple Nose: more close upon open, fragnance of violet, toast and floral comes along after half an hour decant Body: full Taste: mostly bitter type as coffee or mocha, with some fruit, mostly red. Strong tanning Finish: medium to long Does not like a regular CA cab, or Bordeaux, not even the style of 2013 vintage I tried several months ago, which I seem to enjoy more. But this is not bad either.

Balanced Sonoma Cab with dark plum like fruit with active tannins even after a two hour decant. Strong notes of licorice, cassis and lavender. Nicely balanced but not particularly fruit forward. Excellent wine for the money but not a bullseye for my style of Cabernet.

While this was an improvement over the last bottle, and a very significant one, it's still in the very good, not outstanding, category. The fruit receded a bit, esp the black and jammy ones, leaving it with a little more structure and firmness. The varietal nature is coming forward, and there's hints that this might develop some secondary structure. Given my two bottles and some of the comments, I wonder if there's some bottle variation. Still, not at the top of any list of Cal Cabs. With two more bottles to go, it may be time to check in on this after the first of the year.

Too tart and tangy. Drank over the course of two days. As soon as I popped the cork and tasted it I was looking for something else to open. Not my style but I still scored it rather high for its aroma and visual appeal. I was suckered by Parker again. Generally... most of the '12 California wines disappoint me.
Very different from a wine consumed only a month ago. While it was still lush, rich and ripe with the same deep flavors of cassis, dark cherry, blueberry and cocoa, it also had plenty of structure and not a hint of syrup or heaviness. It also possessed an interesting complexity that was missing in the prior bottle. I should apologize for my prior comment about Parker's score. I don't think this bottle quite rated a 94, but I thought is was a solid 92.
Decanted for 1.5 hours. Nose of cedar, blackberry, currant, herb and flowers. Very dark in color, this has flavors of blackberry, currant, black cherry, iron and a touch of earth. The finish on this is very rewarding, clocking in the 30-35 second range. This was not syrupy at all in my opinion and was very well balanced. For the money this is excellent.
Rickspicks nailed it in their review. This is certainly big, ripe, fleshy and bold, but the sweet dark fruit is verging on syrupy. This is delicious, but it's rather inelegant. It's structured enough, but only just holding everything in. I have had great success with Stonestreet's gorgeous Chardonnays, but this did not live up to my resulting expectations. A very nice sip, no doubt, but otherwise unremarkable in a very crowded field. 14.5%, $35.

A wine with a very nice bouquet of dark fruits and toasty oak. Probably needs a couple of years to completely balance out as the acidity and tannins are present in a way that. Shortens the overall finish and balance. Will improve with a few years aging.

Outrageously rich, ripe and lush with a full body, smooth edges and a flabby, fleshy texture. It has just enough acidity to avoid being syrupy, but it is close. Deep, concentrated flavors of cassis, dark cherry, blueberry and cocoa. However, it is also rather monolithic and inelegant. Seems like a perfect example of a fully "Parkerized" wine ... and his ridiculous score of 94 proves it. How he can award a wine with so little complexity or structure a score that high is beyond me. To my palate it is an 89 ... maybe a 90 for someone who likes fruit-bombs, but not a point more.

I was hoping for a bit more from this. It's a bit firm and monolithic. Quite nice and classic. Will need more time for the firmless to ease up a bit. Fair value at $30 but I don't see any 94pts here.

Good but not great right now. I thought just a bit simple, while reasonably varietally specific. I'll leave it aside and see if it really soars to those 90-94 point heights, whatever that means, but right now I'm a little mystified by the hype. It doesn't stand out in the world of $20-40 cab, so it's hard to justify a score that says "outstanding." Just my take.

Wine Advocate has this at 94 points, and I can't disagree. First sips reveal robust fruit overbalanced by smooth tannins, hinting that this wine will come into its own in a couple of years. After about twenty minutes in the glass, the tannins quiet down sufficiently to reveal the wine's exceptional nature - an excellent balance of fruit, oak and tannins.

The higher elevation fruit source of this wine seemed apparent from tasting my first bottle. Nose was nice ripe dark fruit, cassis, and alcohol. Taste was what you would expect out of a well made higher elevation cab, ripe dark concentrated fruits, cassis, hints of licorice and spice on the finish. Seemed well balanced and had a medium finish. Medium plus body.
I purchased at 29.99 and for that it was a good buy, will likely get a case for the cellar. Wine still had stuffing in it on day 3 of drinking, so would say it has a good 5-10 years left in it and will likely improve and integrate more over the next year or two. I enjoyed this wine with pizza but would also be a great steak wine. 91-92
