My one remaining bottle of Chateau des Tours (and given the price of current releases, likely my last. While good, it was not nearly as good as Le Vieux Donjon or Pegau Cuvee Reservee Chateauneuf du Pape, which cost 1/3 the price). This Chateau des Tours CDR was dominated by overwhelming, off-putting oak at first, but the wine opened up and evolved with an hour of decanting and was quite good. Would recommend a much longer decant.

The nose here screams Rayas with its natural wine making. Farmyard, leather, sweet red fruit, raspberry, strawberry and cinnamon. The palate is fresh, Burgundian, if it was a real Rayas it would have a bit more structure. Very good.

Light red color, floral nose, light red cherry and raspberry fruit and white pepper. Airy, free-flowing, understated. Absolutely gorgeous and very much carries the Rayas stamp. Much better, right now, than the 2010.

Pop and pour. 91-92 pts

Oha....... CT, there are about 60 TN´s about Ch de Tours Vaucluse and around 70+ for de Tours Cote du RHONE, same bottling I do guess, AND as a summary all filled by Reynaud. So this bottle is full of herbs , delicate fresh fruit, warm melting, gives me a kick towards the holy night and some days off, layered, basket full of brown biscuits, ripe rich fruit, all on the finesse side of red wine, the 14% ABV just covered by the structure, long, very convincing finish, with some aeration very delicious now, but will easily hold another decade! Enjoy! **(*-****), around 91,92(+) potential Update from 12/05/2020: Last third of this over 3 days "forgotten" bottle, nothing has changed significantly, great fragrance of rich, layered fruit aromas, Christmas herbs, on the palate completely silky now, but with stunning grip still, long and very convincing, great stuff!

Something about these wines that I don’t quite love. A pretty nose but let down by the palate. Certainly elegantly made with light red fruits but a little hollow and lacking in body. Last glass was the best though. Still not worth the inflated price IMO.

Popped with a friend who hasn't drunk wine in many years, but was 'just feeling it'. Wanted something lighter but still a red. We were pairing with burgers and this was just great. Some light red fruits, but mostly focused on baking spice with a very predominant acidity that keeps this so light and easy on its feet. Still one of the best values I know and one of my favorites.

Fantastic delicately complex wine. Open nose offering redcurrant, gentle balsamic acidity, all well combined creating a genuinely fascinating bouquet. Broadly flavoured across the palate, after time in the glass gentle garrigue. Beautifully handled.

Ouvert 5-6 heures d'avance.

First in a flight of six: 2011 vintage Pinot Noir blind tasting, with this as a foil. It masqueraded very well, and I was not surprised on the reveal, as I had guessed it as New Zealand Pinot Noir at a double-blind tasting in January. Clean, and the only noted difference between it and the other five wines was slightly edgy alcohol. Mistook it for wine number three.

Threw in as a ringer in a Pinot Noir blind tasting and with its soaring bouquet, it fit right in. The familiar notes of Italian plums, smoke, ash, very high toned red fruits, with a sweetness unlike other vintages I've had but has integrated over the last 6 months since my last bottle. Stems and green tannins frame the wine held strong over 3 days.

We were drinking mature Burg and someone served this blind. Caught us offguard. Very animalic nose, beautiful, crazy complexity, spices earth. Remains light and burgundian on the palate despite the Alc level. This really is a mini Rayas. Amazing QPR.

This is an astonishing wine. Not at all what you expect from a Cotes du Rhone. It is a pale limpid red colour and combined with the nose of red fruit - predominately strawberry - & cherry it is reminiscent of a Beaune. It has a slightly sweet taste, blind I would have guessed NZ Pinot. After a while in the glass it develops a peppery finish. Splendid, complex and a challenge to the senses.
In the bouquet fresh red berries and some herbs and spices. On the palate an elegant light weight with good red berry acidity, garrigue and soft, mild tannin. Light to medium bodied wine with a good length.

Lots of interest and complexity for a CdR here. Similar to the other Rayas wines the color is more translucent but without the bright ruby color. The nose is quite fragrant with cherry and herbs. On the palate this definitely has some layers of flavor - while still being light in body. Red fruits, some citrus oil zing, herbal notes and a bit of a candied notes and lots of earth. Really delivers for the price.

Next try of this stunning wine, light coloured like a tea in my glass, this is nothing but missleading, sweet delicious fruit like strawberry in the nose, spicy, the palate nothing but stunning finesse, sweet red fruit with a tasty herbal appearance, only light to midbodied, but ending long and delicious, enjoy this wine now, but this will improve for a decade, **(**), 90- 93(+)

Poured by Coravin, very deceptive light garnet-red colour, intense herbgarden, red berry, some slightly roasty aromas, what a great surprise, tasted this E.Peynaud-wine for the first time, like a very good C9dP, spicy, herbs, fine red fruit, very much on the elegant side of winelife, finesse with depth, still very young, but this bottle is singing now, long refined finish, for the next decade+, and the QPR is extraordinary, about 20€ a bottle! **(**), 90- 93

There is no better Cotes du Rhone out there. Each vintage is different, all of them are beautiful. The 2012 is more muscular with spice and depth. Still the heady grenache showing its face but with much more dark tonality to it. Resin, licorice, caramelized red and black fruit, seamless transition from front to back, mouthwatering, SO GOOD and so surprisingly fresh. Decent for an hour at least.

Tasted double blind. Translucent in the glass. Initial notes of red berries, pleasant greenness, pepper, and mulch put my mind to New Zealand Pinot Noir, my guess. A surprising reveal, as early on the wine lacked Grenache character and Rhone funk. Upon returning to the wine, after it had been open for an hour or so, it showed like Grenache (with good grip) and plenty of funk. An interesting tasting. Thanks Bajayngo.
My friend Motz talks about loud wines.........well this is a loud wine! Soaring nose of high toned red fruits, smoky incense, pepper for days, lavender, garrigue, orange peel, tart Italian plums, seaweed and stems. Unusually sweet on the palate but a laser of all the other notes. So young at this stage even for a CDR. Would hold off as long as I can on the next bottle.

Nose: The nose is well balanced and fragrant with red cherries black pepper, licorice, strawberries, leather, and some spice tones. This has excellent depth for a Cotes du Rhone with a savory side that really adds to it.
Taste: Medium bodied with medium acidity and medium+ tannins. The tannins are fine grained and the feel is polished with red cherries, strawberries, leather, and spice tones.
Overall: This is a fantastic Cotes du Rhone. It is well balanced with an attractive dark red fruit and savory aspect that is highly enjoyable.

Probably the best vintage for this wine since 2001, this has more material and depth compared to the 2011 but it is still so light and elegant on its feet that it's hard to think of this as a Southern Rhone. The fruit is fresh and pure, it dances on the palate and it is accompanied by a great mark from the soil. The fruit is light red, in the garden fruit spectrum. Wow, this tastes like Pignan/Rayas.

Tasted vis-avis the 2010, this is really speaking for the vintage; creamy, juicy, nervous, straight forward Grenache, so delic.

Candied fruit, very mystique in its spice/wood/flower potpourri. So elegant and cerebral, a truly unique CdR, good QPR too.

Fantastic delicately complex wine. Open nose offering redcurrant, gentle balsamic acidity, all well combined creating a genuinely fascinating bouquet. Broadly flavoured across the palate, after time in the glass gentle garrigue. Beautifully handled.

Ouvert 5-6 heures d'avance.

Really singing on the nervous Rayas sort of notes; elegant, vibrant, very light, red fruit. Burgundian, creamy, really charming. This is very nice and approachable now, but will live on. #Kandestederne.
