Comprehensive Tenuta delle Terre Nere (Chicago, IL): From magnum. Nice mix of red and black fruit here. The fruit profile is somewhat ripe, but it hasn't devolved into desiccation and pruney qualities yet, so there is still some sweetness. Pleasant weight and complexity, and drinking very well now.

Beautiful wine. Drinking well, just starting to show some signs of maturity but the fruit is still fresh and pure and there’s a lovley lifted floral character. Elegnat and long. 4+

Much denser than some other wines of this vintage. Dark fruits and earth tones. Strong mid palate tannins which linger quite a while. May be great in 10 years but I doubt if I shall be.

Luscious fruits backed by integrated tannins, good complexity. Needs a vigorous decant and an hour to open up. Best with another five+ years in the cellar.

Dense, aromatic, zesty, with concentrated fruit, mostly red, a delicate touch of leather and spice. Medium-full and very elegant. Velvety tannins, still very young, some oiliness on the palate, very complex. Really impressive.

Decanted for 3 hours. Man this was weird! Super complex and interesting. I thought it reminded me of a Bojo initially but man it just kept coming in interesting waves all night. really nice.. Really cool bottling.

Tenuta delle Terre Nere (CAVE SA, Switzerland): I am lost for words now, this is simply SENSATIONNAL !! so glad I hold a couple of these beauties. Extraordinarily delicate and refined, and yet it is strong and vibrant. Out of this world complexity, in all fairness reminded me of the only la Tache I have ever tasted (the 09s). Truly, an incredible showing.

Both very similar in quality. Here are my notes on the 2015:
The 2015 'Prephylloxera' is a simply brilliant showing in this vintage. This comes from two parcels in the midst of Calderara Sottana that have survived phylloxera, which are now 130 years old and stand on their original rootstock. This fantastic blend of 98% Nerello Mascalese, 2% Nerello Cappuccio demonstrates striking purity and finesse. The aromatics are gorgeous, with fresh red fruits and cassis which combine with floral, spices, wet stones and a touch of smoke all taking shape. On the palate this is beautifully textured and focused with remarkable overall balance. It remains fresh and inviting, as it continues to dazzle through the long finish. (Best 2020-3032)

150+ year old vines on European Rootstock. Ripe strawberries, raspberries black cherries. Leather and animal notes. Amazing minerality toward the back end. Well integrated oak gives the whole thing a vanilla tint. The best of Etna.

2015 Terre Nere (Chicago, IL): The nose here again shows slightly high-toned, with a little bit of orange peel. The profile of the fruit here seems even lighter than some of the other 2015s tonight. On the other hand, despite the lightness of the nose, and the attack and midpalate, the backend of this is intensely tannic. Of all the wines, this also seems the most shut down as well, perhaps a reflection of status?

Delicate and subtle wine with a well integrated backbone of acid and tannin that barely peeks through at the end, at this point in time. It sneaks up on you a bit and you might miss it if not paying attention. Aromatics were a bit muted and needed coaxing, but some mixed berries and floral elements became a bit more prominent after 20 minutes in a decanter. This struck me as precise and clean where the style and integration of components was not forced in any way. However, I was expecting a bit more herbal or briary component and this was perhaps a touch more "cleaner" and pure than expected. Not necessarily negative at all, but this will surely become even more interesting as some secondary flavors develop and the wine becomes come out of its young phase. Worth trying now but best held for at least 5 more years.

Just the appearance of this wine alone is enough to convince you it will be brilliant, even before its has been smelled or tasted; there is a pale, transparent glossiness to the wine that exudes class. Sure enough, the nose is a knock out - floral and layered with rose petals, dry cherry, dusty soil, coconut, a touch of vanilla; constantly shifting as the wine opens up. The palate sweeps all this up together into a velvet soft entry, but underneath run the most beautiful fine-grained tannins that add structure to what seems like a delicate wine. The finish slaps the gums with a touch of dry extract and tartness that works beautifully.
This wine will be stella in a few years - even in its youth it is quite quite brilliant.

Tasting: I have had the 2014 previously and gave it a low score (88), but this was quite nice. Mellow, light and a bit burgundian.
