This took some time to open up and somehow lost some aged liquorice notes that made it feel somewhat older than it is. After some time, it showed with lovely cherry, dusty, present tannins, roses, some oak.

Pink rim, ruby red center. Fragrant red berries, strawberry, prune, tobacco, leather and tar. Fresh and elegant. Medium-bodied, medium silky tannin, and medium-high acidity. Long finish. Balanced and well made.
We drank it together with a Roagna 2012 Barbaresco Pajè Vecchie Viti. It was not a fair match because the Roagna was a single vineyard and Gaja was a village wine. The Roagna was much better, but the Gaja was still wonderful.

30 decant at Widder Zurich Medium bodied with that Gaja cherry, balanced but with a tannic bite on the finish that should resolve with more bottle age. If there’s something missing, it’s depth. Will that come with age? Well in hour three then wine definitely improved. 94 today

A solid wine. Medium to full body, rich fruits, heavy tannins and needs time. Is it a WoW wine. Not yet. Still evolving. At this young age I was expecting more. (I am saying price point and similar Barbaresco to be had). For me Nice. Keep for a long long time.

I was nlt too impressed having drunk a Barolo before. But, the power of this wine - concentrations, complexity, fruits & slickness dies nlt evolve until an hour later in the glass. Hence DECANT at least an hour! Then you will enjoy the juiciness of this wine!

Very nice! Enjoyed during a snow storm. Lovely, full nose. Lighter, brick color, silky consistency, bold tannins, mineral quality with modest fruit statement. Only opened an hour before drinking, needed more air. Still a lovely wine. I'd recommend.

Pale translucent ruby color. Soft dried cherries, cedar, floral tones and a hint of heat on a youthful and soft nose. Somewhat linear shape with similar flavors to nose and dusty dry tannins. Youthful and somewhat tight but still appealing finish.
Needs 3-5 plus years and will be quite an attractive if not effeminate wine.

Drinking well. Cherry liqueur and gravel road minerlaity. I like tasting these because I am looking for the effects of the heat damage that I personally know these wines incurred while in my own cellar. I detect a little bit of imbalance but nothing I would say is a flaw or throwing the wine “off”. Drink up! Well recommended

I love this wine. So drinakable and fresh. Medium bodied and medium acidity. Beautiful deep magenta color. Served with a grilled salmon and risotto main plate. Spice, saddle and grilled savory herbs on the nose. Bright cherry and raspberry fruit on the palate with a nice earthiness. Solid finish. All around enjoyment. Highly recommended.

From a magnum that was opened all day and decanted 6 plus hours. As I expected opening it was a huge mistake (damn my impatience). Sharp and acidic with very little character coming through. Tarth cherry and orange rind. No rating. Needs 10 plus years.

Color: clear, medium- ruby/amber Nose: this keeps you awake; flowers, oak, red fruits warm but fresh, leather, Dutch sweet drop and very elegant. Taste: open, round and warm with firm tannins. Freshness, clean and long . Chocolate, coffee and leather. Long and very elegant Overal: That’s nebbiolo! Very youthful and lots reserve but also very nice right now. 95 points and maybe a higher score in 5/10 years

This is *really* good and more generous than expected. Gorgeous floral nose. And on the palate, this is middleweight but with concentrated fruit and real depth and intensity.

Rather closed aromas but the obvious wild strawberry and rose petals are there. Chewy but fine tannin, high acidity with balancing fruit. Racy and elegant. Leave for at least 10-15 years before drinking. Long filling finish with a touch of warmth. 94-95p

Fourth wine on the Italian wines table at the Third Annual Oakton Wine Shop Bucket List Tasting. First time having a Gaja, but we can see why Angelo has created the benchmark for all wines coming out of Piedmont. Medium ruby red with garnet edges. Aromatic nose with notes of roses, strawberries, leather and wet stones. Heavy tannins (7.5/10) with a full body. Very dry throughout on the palate with a touch of sweet spices, floral influences and a bit of minerality. Nicely polished with a long finish. Drink till 2030.

The nose was dusty and dark with notes of dried cherry, crushed seashell, dusty cedar, roses, and soil tones. On the palate, I found silky textures which were quickly firmed up by fine tannin with dried cherry, inner florals, and savory spices. The finish was incredibly long with cheek-puckering tannin. Tight, firm and packed with potential, the 2013 Gaja Barbaresco is gorgeous.

The presenter at the tasting made the judgement call of popping and pouring, but this one should have 100% been decanted. The palate is very unforgiving, with brutal tannins and powerful acidity. Still, the complexity manages to shine through, with notes of cherry, tar, roses, spice, earth, and a tinge of salty, bloody iron. Paradoxically, it manages to have a bit of an aged character while being painfully young with its tannins and acid. Opened up a bit after some heavy swirling. Would have loved to tried it after a few hours.
Rough right now but should be absolutely incredible in 20 years.

Closed nose but an expansive array of sweet cherry, floral, and herbal flavors on the palate. Nicely structured. The 2013 Barbaresco should prove very fine with rest. Drink starting 2022.

Opera Wine 2017 - 100 Great Producers (Verona, Italy): The nose is already quite expressive, though, not unexpectedly, the palate's fine structure has this rather tightly coiled at the moment. With some coaxing, even more complexity emerges. Classic aromas and flavors, there's little doubt this is gong to deliver the goods, but not before some much needed bottle rest for at least 4-5 more years - even better in 10. If opening anytime soon, Audoze all day, maybe more. Will probably outlive me by a good margin. recommended
A surprisingly approachable wine at the moment. Very sweet on the palate, and showing in an enjoyable and clean way. My first tasting of 2013 Piedmont, and a positive indicator on the vintage.

Tasting with Gaia Gaja (Gaja Winery in Barbaresco): Pop and pour. Bottled just a week before. Gaia says 2013 is a cool vintage for Barbaresco. The nose is somewhat muted, but shows a gorgeous array of flowers and cherries. Ethereal and expressive in the mouth. Cherries and spice. So soft and sweet in the mouth. Good potential here for the next 20 years or so. 94-??
