When you drink a wine like this you understand why this is the wine of Kings. When a Burgundy wine is good it's unbelievable. This wine unfolds in the glass with sweet fruit of black cherry and lasts for many minutes.

This wine for me has a big range. 92-95+. This wine super tannic and austere at first and takes some coaxing to show anything. After lots of air and double decanting brings out a array of flavors and shows all its promise for the future. Burghound says 2040 plus drinking window. I can see this! This wine is massive and super coiled. Needs time for sure but I can see the potential but only time will tell. Holding my 6 bottles.

Five winos excellent adventure , mostly in Burgundy; 6/7/2019-6/15/2019 (Beaune, France): Expressive nose displaying intense ripe black and red fruit, blackberry concentrated, black cherry, raspberry, lavender, caramel, a hint of mint, baking spices, charred rare steak and mineral. Exceptional concentration, layers upon layers of concentrated black fruit, dense, unctuous, silky, medium acidity, medium mineral and a long concentrated black cherry and blackberry driven finish with lavender and caramel at the end. This is very ripe and rich. Although enjoyable with the opulent primary fruit, this can easy improve for three decades or more.

New Year's Champagne Madness (Casa Gill): Fantastic and utterly charming. Gorgeous red fruit and spice mix on the nose. Great acidity and fruit on the palate. Rustic tannin on the finish, but not distracting given the fruit.

My second favorite in my wine club's tasting of '15 Red Burgundy, just behind the Rossignol Trapet Chapelle Chambertin. Initially not forthcoming, but gained complexity in the glass. Superb balance. Huge upside potential. Let this one sleep in your cellar.

Wines Tasted at HDH Auction: Small glass, brief note. Lush and very ripe with so much power alongside the black and red cherry aromas and flavors. Big and powerful throughout, slightly backward from middle through finish. 94-95 point potential, but this will reward 20+ years in the cellar.

Darkest color of the night by far. Surprisingly expressive for a cuvee that typically takes years to show anything. That said, just a fraction of what it will become. The fruit could not be more healthy and has that wonderful combination of richness and grip. Very long. Just an infant. (95+)

La Paulée de San Francisco - Grand Tasting (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note. Black and red cherry with liqueur hints and extensive savory spice. Deep concentration and texturally masterful. Certainly tannic, but yet almost elegant. Not the easiest wine of the day, but certainly one of the best, 95-96 point potential.

La Paulée de SF Grand Tasting (Fairmont Hotel, SF CA): One of the more structured wines of the day. The nose here is dense but rather brooding. Powerful, concentrated with a load of fruit. Tannic and firm. Packed with potential. 93+

94 poeng. For nå.

Gigantic wine, think Arnie Schwarzernegger benching 200kgs. Massive, massive, dense black fruits, wall of tannin and never-ending length. Blackberries, blueberries, violets, earth, iron, chocolate, hint of mushroom, candy, and then tannin, tannin, tannin. Huge, round and ripe tannins. Reminds me of when they used to make the great Granges of the 60's and 70's, massive wines that were unapproachable for their first 15 years (today's versions a far cry from those Golden Years) You could probably drink this for another 12-18 months, but then this baby is going to sleep for two decades, maybe even more. Expect to see lots of notes of disappointment written here from 2019-2035 as drinkers open a bottle they don't understand. This is old-school Corton, and the best red from that hill that I have ever come across. Buy some for your grandchildren, they will toast you with this wine in all it's glory in 2075!!!
Annual K&L Grand Burgundy Tasting (K&L Wines, San Francisco): Deeper ruby than anything that preceded it. Powerful soil-driven aromas. Red/black fruit that is neither too sweet nor too ripe atop a base of soil and minerality. Dense. Firmly tannic spine, excellent stone and penetration in the mouth. Wow, this manages to be serious and classic even in the context of this bigger, riper vintage. Wonderful wine for the distant future, although unlike Faiveley Corton of days yore, this not too brutal to taste today. Its potential is crystal clear. My favorite red of the tasting by a wide margin.

Medium dark, not quite opaque, beautiful nose showing light spice; very nice elegant dark fruit, not overripe at all, rocky finish. Needs time but should be excellent when it reaches maturity.

Visit to Faiveley - Vintage 2015 (Nuits St.Georges): During Domaine visits, only brief impressions. Dark ruby. Deep nose of red and black fruit, gingerbread, earth, smoke, complex. Wonderfullly rich palate, soft tannins for a Corton, generouns fruit with freshness and appropriately astringent finish. This will be grand once mature.

Winos' excellent adventure in France; 6/22/2017-6/27/2017 (All over France): Expressive nose displaying hedonistic black fruit, inky, incense and earth. Incredible concentration, layers upon layers of intense black fruit, good acidity, noticeable tannins and a long intense black fruit driven finish with noticeable tannins at the end. IMO, this will take a few decades to reach the peak. It reminds me the 09 version upon release. As usual in Corton, this is all about power, intensity and structure.
