Deep ruby. The rather delicate nose for a CA Cabernet takes time and air to reveal itself with sage, herbs, red fruit and lead pencil. On the palate, the fruit is balanced with good acidity and a tannic backbone which lasts through the long finish. This can definitely age well, and while delicious now, should be given a bit of air to unfold. Great showing for a second wine.

Opened this next to a 2012 Scarecrow. Blind I wouldn't have thought these wines were related in a slightest. Different fruit profile, structure etc. etc.
Muscular medium plus tannins. Dark bramble vs. red fruits.
Consumed over two days with more approachability on day two. Or consider a long decant and some sediment filtering.
Aerated with a Vinturi and decanted for one hour. Nose of black cherry, black raspberry, currant, mocha, spice and crushed rock. Black and red fruit, mocha, spice and crushed rock on the palate. Elegantly balanced with a very long finish. Full bodied. Served with grilled filet mignon and Diane sauce.

PnP, color is plum. Nose is black fruit, a woody element, dust. Palate is black fruit, tomato soup, wet fence rail, hint of spice. Full bodied, slightly chewy, moderate tannins. All reasonably well in balance. Moderate finish. Not exceptional, but very nicely done.

I greatly anticipated drinking this bottle only to be disappointed last night. Decanted for 2 hours and it was still very tight with muted flavors. I’ll wait several more years before opening the other bottle, but this was was very acidic with grippy tannins. It evolved over dinner (steak), but there was no depth or complexity.

PNP-Ripe, plush red fruit jam, toasted vanilla bean and 14.9% abv. Drank this next to 14 ADV which I was told is a neighboring property. A few ticks better than the ADV. Saved some for day two and will post if there is improvement.

This has been in my cellar for just over 3 years. No special occasion, just the promise of a well-grilled ribeye and potatoes with Loretta and we really enjoyed the wine; PnP. A bit of heat. A wonderful chocolaty flavor.

I believe this is the most mediocre of the 3. The in mouth flavors are quite muted almost dusty. The flavors include black cherry, cherry pop tart in its creamy bready notes, and a muted acidity.
Still a beautiful wine but one that needs to be drunk now rather than later.

Decanted 3 hours. Over time the oak became more prominent but fortunately so did the dusty fruit. Not as unique as the Scarecrow but certainly delivers in the price range. Luxurious and smooth now with a touch of heat that needs 5 years to settle.

Nose: Deep and riveting nose here of dark cherry,, black raspberry, graphite, smoke, licorice and Rutherford dust. Black fruited but has a softness to its approach. Palate: Celia has crafted a silky lifted plate that glides along with layers of black fruit, dark cherry, licorice, roasted herbs, caramel and spice. Finish: Lots going on with fig, blackberry and floral notes all wrapped in dusty Rutherford tannin.
A classic JJ Cohn wine that was qualitatively with the fabulous Dunn all night.. Love them for completely different reasons.

Learning 2014 Napa from RockinCabs: Fascinating to drink this side by side with the Dunn Howell Mountain and J. Davies, where the differences really shine through. The M. Etain has by far the darkest fruit, full of glossy blackberry and black licorice. The palate is really packed with fruit, deep and rich with more licorice, squid ink, and a nice, subtle earthiness. But the textural component is pretty striking, too - this feels quite luxurious and silky although for my palate this is offset by some heat, tolerance to which is naturally a matter of preference. This seems a world away from the Dunn Howell!

Definitely one of the best Cabs I had so far! That is what I want from a top Napa Cab! Dark fruit, velvety and a very long finish. This is 2nd tier wine from Scarecrow but if u taste it blind u wouldn't imagine. Wow!!
This has ruthorford all over it initially, breathing in was like someone driving down a dusty path paved with cassis and blackberry, this was a decant for 3-4 hours before coming alive, well-rounded and smooth, but really tannic - smoothed out on day 2, more dark fruit, blueberry and cassis, with hint of dust, much less than day 1; really excellent, holding my additional for at least 5 years however, this has tons of room to really integrate. 94+ with upside

Soft nose and enticing dark red purple color. On the palate, dark berry fruits, dark cherry, traces of bitter cranberries and dark raspberries. This was a pop and pour but this wine was inhibit at first, but it did start start to open and showed better with time. Nice soft fruit and more elegant in style and structure, but I expected a better experience so I was a little disappointed. In conclusion, this wine went from a 91 to 92-93 points. Good wine but there are better values out there for my palate.
Decant for 2 hours and enjoy the ride. Smooth as butter with nice structure and silky tannins. Créme de cassis, vanilla, raspberries, cherries, dark fruit, lasting finish. This wine has plenty of shelf life left. Perfectly balanced. Wine of the year so far! Cheers to anyone drinking it!

Dynamite. Was firing on (nearly) all cylinders after a 60-minute decant and only got better with additional time. Cinnamon-dusted plums, Christmas spice cake, menthol, pencil shavings, and classic Rutherford dust. Elegant and exhibiting great finesse; this wine is really solid.

Really impressive. Decanted for an hour. This wine stands up to their reputation and I am amazed they can make a Napa cab that tastes so much better than others. Drinkable now with no overwhelming tannins but would love to try after 5 years more in the bottle. Beautiful deep red color with lots of fruit.

This rich and elegant Cabernet tastes like a wine that is building towards something fantastic - if only I had waited another year or two! As others have noted, this needs a good hour or two in order to open up, and it is likely to benefit from waiting until 2020. Since there is no better way to learn than by a bad example, though, here are my thoughts on the wine in its early stages.
Dark red in color and full in body, the wine offers aromas of boysenberry, sawdust, cedar, and rosemary. Tastes of blackberry, dark chocolate, pine needles, and warm gravel, with a sweet and lingering finish. 14.9% alcohol. Blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot.
This is my first Mt. Etain, and I hope it won't be my last: the density and class of the wine are intriguing, and I hope I can taste one in its full glory, as this one is only approaching it. This found a second gear on the second day, with a level of integration that was lovely. 94+ for now, with obvious upside.

Dark purplish ruby red. Rich nose with layers of black fruits, a little blue, graphite, anise, spices and some minerality. Heavy tannins (8/10) and full bodied. Plush and rich with structure on the palate. Notes of cassis, black cherries, blueberries, dust and anise. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2028.

Dark purplish ruby red. A bit shutdown on the nose with some dried spices, cherry liqueur and woody. Medium plus tannins (6.5/10) and full bodied. Rich and restrained palate with bramble berries, dark crushed gravel, dark cocoa, coconut and some vanilla. Medium plus to long finish. Drink till 2032. (93+)

Sixth of the blind wines this evening, a few ringers amongst the three Celia Welch wines we were trying tonight.
Dark garnet red with ruby hues. Rich dark berries on the nose with some crushed gravel, dust and dark baking spices. Medium plus tannins (7/10) and medium plus to full bodied. Rich and lush flavors on the palate with notes of black fruits, minerality, cinnamon and nutmeg. Long and lingering finish. Will develop nicely for a few years before hitting its peak. Drink till 2037. (94+)

Still way to young even with a long decant. The fruit seemed primal and sharp but was nonetheless there. Full bodied yet on the brighter spectrum of red fruit with plenty of cassis and even a little dustiness build it. I’d hold for at least 5 more years.

Decided to revisit from almost a year ago. Dark purple fruit - blueberry, dark currants, and a little dark cherry. Smooth mid-palate coupled with solid depth/concentration. Nice flavors of dark berries, some spice, and a little floral profile. Decent finish but not overly long nor deep. Decanted for one hour and drank over another three. Improved a little with time but drinking well after the decant. Drank next to a 2015 Carter Weitz cab and I thought the Carter was quite a bit better - in particular a longer/deeper finish which left that lasting impression. 96% cab and 4% petit verdot.

Boy do I love this wine. When looking for a new world cab that's never overdone, has impeccable balance and yet still delivers amazing depth of fruit, this is it. The nose is about as good as it gets, with blueberries, cassis fruit, rutherford dust, spring flowers and hints of menthol. It's fresh, sexy, plush and forward, but backed up by lots of fine tannins and a huge backbone. This is layered, better with air and stupendously tasty. It finishes crazy long and pure. This will age very well, but fun to drink now. Most likely the best "second" wine in Napa. 95-96

Previous note applies. Ideally I’m going to try to give this another 2 years before opening my next bottle. Drinks beautifully after a couple of hours in the decanter, but shows even more potential promise with some time in bottle to better integrate its flavors. 93-94+ points. Hold until 2020.
Young, way too young but absolutely a beauty to enjoy. A full body Cabernet with jammy hints of raspberry, leather, vanilla and oak. What a gem this will be with 10 years under its belt.

Decided to crack one of these, while knowing I have several more for down the road.
Two hours in decanter, and it needed another 1/2 hour to really begin to show off. Perfect representation of Rutherford juice. Full bodied, nicely refined tannins, nice acidity that suggests this has a long life ahead, a bit of that "dust" apparent.
The quality of juice and craftsmanship is clearly on display here.
Every time I have a M'Etain, I find myself wondering why I don't have it more often. This is one of those wines that if I had to pick say five wines to only drink the rest of my life, it would be on that list for sure...

PNP: "...Good things coming down the pike,--a bit piquant--dense--extracted fruit, I'm impressed by the body and girth rather than the flavor....me likey" "Going to let this sit on the counter."
Fast forward 4 hours and add grass fed rib eye--- dense extraction with a long finish, ripe yellow plum?, gravely-muddy texture predominates, tannins have seemed to disappear. I suggest pairing with a heavy sauce dish, this wine tamed our steaks.
Bottom line: Today was a special day so I opened a "good" wine. Judging by the EPR (Enjoyment to Price Ratio) I wasn't WOW'd, but mmm-mmm was it tasty.

outstanding bottle. For tonight we paired it against the 1st bottling of th 2014 scarecrow. It didn't have the length of finish that the scarecrow had but the depth of nose and fruit and flavor won the night with our guests. lovely blueberry and blackberry fruit with a good balance of acidity and Oak

Easy Bistro Bottle Share (Easy Bistro): Dark ruby red in the glass. Very aromatic with black cherry, crème de cassis, licorice, vanilla extract, and hints of graphite. Dense, concentrated fruit on the palate with a bit of the Rutherford dust on the back end. A blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot, this is the second wine produced from the J.J. Cohn estate after Scarecrow. Although still in its infancy, it was a pleasure with Wagyu Steak Frites. 14.9% alcohol. $190.
Stood up for an hour. Popped and let breathe for about 30 minutes. Drank over 2 hours.
Any time I need to be reminded what it is that I love so much about Rutherford (or Napa cabs in general), I can pop one of these. A beautiful wine that is drinking well now.

A luxurious and full bodied wine which seems like I’m drinking liquid velvet from a tin but rubied chalice...on a wagon of hay of course.
Light fruit and medium tannins provide a richness and silky mouthfeel that is truly unforgettable. A long finish even resuscitates the “missing” heart and M’etain lives on and on....

PnP was a little tight. After an hour in the decanter, prominent notes of black cherry, cassis, tobacco, incense, and hints of vanilla liqueur. Mid-palate was especially notable, with a fuller mouthfeel and a decent glide of fruit flavors on the back end. The tobacco and black cherry really danced well together across the palate.
This was served alongside a 2014 Maybach Materium and a 2014 Myriad Napa Cabernet. The Maybach was more concentrated and complex overall (it was a solid version of "perfect" in my book). The Etain and Myriad were very similar. The Etain had a tobacco note that the Myriad did not exhibit. A solid Cabernet. 93-94 points.

Not the best conditions to really rate this, at a ranch, decanted maybe an hour and consumed from a styrofoam cup. Liked it, can tell it need a few more years at least, or a very long decant. Lots of tannin but great potential
Third night on the Allure of the Seas and back at Chops Grille. Third wine out of the case we brought on board.
Purplish ruby red. Layered and rich nose with notes of boysenberries, dark cinnamon, purple petals, more dark berries and vanilla. Solid acidity paired with heavy tannins (7.5/10 almost 8). Full bodied with a touch of heat. Lots of complexity on the palate with rich and dark layers of sweet spices, blackberries, and gunpowder. Strong structure and long finish. Will easily last two decades. Drink till 2037.

Dark purple fruit - blueberry, dark currants, and a little dark cherry. Smooth mid-palate coupled with solid depth and nice flavors of dark berries plus a little spice. Fairly long finish. Decanted for two hours and drank over another two. Improved with time but drinking pretty well after the decant. Approachable now, however, I believe another year or two will do this vintage good to let the fruit soften and open-up a little more.

Terrific showing for the Tin Man on PnP tonight. Fabulous nose of licorice, creme de cassis and blue/black fruit. Very aromatic and hits all the right notes. This vintage has more up front fruit than the 2013, and tonight it was hitting on all cylinders. Lovely texture, excellent concentration, significant fruit backed up with good backbone and an excellent finish. Just wonderfully precocious and fun to drink right now.
Probably not fair to rate this wine so young. Fast decant and will not make this mistake again. Big wine and I too found the tannins a bit grippy. Nose was muted and this wine certainly needed more time than allotted to open up. Lay these down for a few years and I think you will be rewarded. Good now, but could be great in a few years.

Stood up for an hour. Popped and let breathe for an hour. Drank over two hours.
This is gorgeous wine. Dark red in color. Vibrant. Expressive nose of dark red fruits, some black. Also struts its vibrance on the palate, with a kiss of Rutherford Dust on the back end and a long finish. Tannins are fine but rather grippy right now.
Suggest maybe 6 months to allow the tannins to lose some grip, but otherwise this shows great right now. Went perfect with wagyu strips. Disappeared all to quickly - my wife was upset to learn I had poured the last of the bottle.

Wanted to simply see what this was like since having never had it. Opened one evening assuming that the next day would be the when we actually could tell something but this was delicious from the first pour. Very ripe and and lovely. the nose didn't open quickly but the mouthfeel was full and warm with balanced flavor
The wine looks inky colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, black currant (cassis), coffee, toast, cedar, oak and vanilla.

Exceptional; plenty of life left as you’d imagine, but drinking nicely now; eucalyptus and forest floor, maybe some cigar box, too

PNP:
"...Good things coming down the pike,--a bit piquant--dense--extracted fruit, I'm impressed by the body and girth rather than the flavor....me likey"
"Going to let this sit on the counter."
