Bright color. Some people called it powerful and wild. I wouldn‘t call it that way but that might also be compared to some other wines we had next to it. To me is seemed very young and primary but also some secondary yeasty notes. Give it a serious decant if drinking now or let it sir five more years.

Intense, powerful riesling. Like a well-ripened piece of stone fruit, expresses round sunny sweetness with a tart tang. Petrol on nose and palate. Medium+ weighted and slightly honeyed, balanced with acidity. Not ethereal like Mosel, rather forceful. Somehow a little more wild than focused, tasting youngish and exhuberant.

Daisy yellow; has that taut nose which resonates, hessian; just off-dry, lip-smacking acidity, salinity, plenty of depth; an austerity on an extended finish. This should become better with a couple+ more years.

Nose of lychee, passionfruit, pineapple and lime. On the palate those flavors persist, but with minerality. Great acidic balance. Totally delicious. It's not GG but for 1/5 the price on secondary, it's a no brainer.

3 years have made this '16 quite a lot smoother and more balanced. Tropical fruit in the forefront on the nose; melon, mango and pineapple. Broad citrus and a thin slice of lime also in the mix. Crisp minerality, trademark limestone. Overall a quality nose which grows significantly with air. The palate turns more towards the limestone and mineral feel than the exotic fruits. Powerful with vibrant acidity, crisp and with a crunch between the teeth. Medium long aftertaste. Obvious potential, you can easily sense the quality of the vines and with more cellar time this will match most GG's. Also, still as good qpr as there is in the world of Riesling.

Popped and poured. Hit all of the right notes this evening. Aromas were layered and complex...lychee, minerals, spice, some flint, and sulphur. Really beautiful palate. Flavors seemed a bit more developed than the 2018 VdF I had a couple nights earlier. More tangerine, more lychee, more more more. Great acidity. A home run.

Heady nose of petrol and fresh lemon, some honey, fruit cup cherries, all of which continue through the palate. The weight on this Riesling is hefty and dukes it out with the pucker-level lemon citrus and cold wet stone. Plenty of ripe apricot, white peach on the palate too. All of the elements are complimentary, and fight for attention- they are boldly energetic- before settling into a mellowed honey and clean, dry mineral finish.

This is my second go at Von der Fels from Keller, the man many think makes the best Rieslings on the planet today. While I thought his entry levels were a little bit of an acid flex, Von der Fels again hits outer worldly levels of beauty through smoke, flinty fruits - pear, grapefruit, some spice. Supreme treat for Riesling nerds.

At P&A's Hertford. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs. Tiny fizz. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of citrus lemon crops, honey, white peach, white slate minerality, then a mix of salt/saline/chalk/limestone minerals, white honeysuckle flowers. Developing. On the palate, almost off-dry, precise high acidity, medium- alcohol (12.5%), medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of intense citrus lemon drops, white peaches, green limes, green apples, and a blender mix of crushed stones/chalk/limestone/salty saline minerality. Maybe only the medium+ finish lets this down a little. Outstanding quality. On the top of my head, this feels like possibly the most complex young Riesling I have ever tasted, would thrash many a GG at the same phase of evolution. The immediacy of enjoyment is so amazing. Could put on a point more with some age, though it probably doesn't need anything more than 4-5 years to do that. Von der Fels is a Cuvee of the younger grapes (20- 30 years) from their GG vineyards like Kirchspiel, Hubacker and Abtserde. Feels like a GG blended with a small percentage of Kabinett and then with a touch of steroids added.

This is showing really nicely now, and an outstanding value for the price. Pale citrus and pear fruit and an intense chalky and stony mineral character conveyed on a lightweight frame that's perfectly balanced with good acidity. It shows more herbal aromatics with air as it warms up, though never losing its sense of focus and elegance even as it nears room temperature.

Many regard Keller as the best in the Rheinhessen and this bone dry racy Riesling is One of the best I've ever had. Von Der Fels is Man on Wire. A tight rope walker with razor thin margins. Austere and beautiful. Incredible juxtaposition from calm lemon, vanilla aloe, and sage to a level of acid I haven't seen before.
And still spectacularly harmonious.

Friday Night Double Blind Tasting $40+ (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Very youthful, taut, lime zest pith and candied quality, softer slate, peach, a certain sweetness to the nose but bone dry on the palate, wiry and searing acid, started to fill out with some air but needs time, nectarine pit and sour peach, like the mineral; give this some time to uncoil and develop some complexity, bound up tightly right now.

Really enjoyed this quite a bit. Medium lemon color. Vibrant nose of citrus, white florals, honeysuckle, white peach and some crushed rock. Looking forward to trying this for quite some time, and it didn’t disappoint. An herbal edge carried a most pleasing nose that almost reminded me of a Ricola cough drop. The appearance of green apple had the suggestion of a kabinett level of ripeness, but the counterbalance of firm acidity and gravely tones eliminated any sensation of sweetness. Very dry, but accessible and easy to drink, the herbal streak carried all the way to the finish as did citrus juices. Excellent.

Keller is spot on with this wine. A very fresh and fruity nose of pear, peach, and with a subtle sweetness of heather honey and faint traces of both minerals and spices makes this wine very appealing - there's almost a salty edge to this wine with a twist of spearmint. The taste is so smooth and pleasant - even though Rieslings often appear fresh and light theres a warmness and fullness to this wine that just makes me want to drink more... The color is light with yellow-greenish twist.

Tasting the November 3, 2017 new releases (små partier) at Systembolaget (Stockholm): A little primary fruit sallad and pear flavored popsicle (which is typical for this wine in its youth) - and it is lovely. On the palate, it is really good, with high acidity, good ripe fruit, and some grapefruit at the very end which adds structure. Long and elegant, will be even better when the primary fruit subsides just a bit. (88-91)

Enjoyed over two nights. Puckeringly tight and sour on first open. Takes half an hour+ to come around and loosen up a little bit. Pit fruits and apple, orange zest, lime, and a dusting of chalky mineral are all present, followed up by firm, taught acid. Second night the acid abates somewhat, leaving a more generous orange zest and Granny Smith apple-esque profile with balanced acid and lime accents providing lift. Great length on both nights. High quality.
Agreed with MACAUJAMES, this is a rambunctious, immature wine that could benefit from time on its side. Can be a fun drop right now, provided you have two or three nights to follow it. "Very good-to-excellent," 90/100, at this stage.
Riesling Riot 2018: Floral, lime, peach and pear aromas. Medium bodied fruit weight, this flows really well and has no rough edges sticking out. Composed and really tasty wine.

This is juvenile, needs laying down for a year or so. It has perfumed aromas of veggies, white stone fruits, chalk, lemons and limes. Its medium bodied spherical yet delicate, transparent and unfruity palate has excellent density and acidity. Ends super long, fresh and elegant- 12.5%. This is the best dry Riesling I have had from Germany period: 91/92. Should develop well.

Golden straw color. Nose effusive, initial slight petrol and then strong hints of waxy richness, florals/citrus. Those florals/citrus carry over into palate, honeysuckle, with time some hints of green apple, strong minerality, bright acidity. Surprisingly and refreshingly dry, 12.5% abv. Goes down incredibly easily, esp w food, matches well with spicy and flavorful Vietnamese. Before we knew it, the bottle was gone — reminds me of MiranK’s vanishing Keller bottles. The best Keller wine I’ve had of the few (non-golden label) I’ve tried, just an outstanding and complex and very well balanced wine, will definitely be on the lookout for more from this vintage and in the future. 94 pts

As lovely as during all previous tastings. Still a bit young with a slight whiff of frizzante in the back-end palate. Lovley acidity and balance between power and fruit as always in this wine. Totally adorable and certainly worth all the merit it can get.

Yet another brilliant vintage of the wine that brought well-deserved fame and glory to star wine-maker Klaus-Peter Keller and his team. The 2016 von der Fels is of course still a baby but what a baby it is! The nose reveals profound citrus zest, a whiff of elegant minerals, crisp and lovely elderflower and last but not least classy orange zest. The intriguing part is the complexity found in this wine which perhaps even makes the nose worth dying for when the baby fat is gone? The palate adds to the first impressions in a stunning way and everything plays along in a harmonious way. Texture and structure promise a lot for the future. This wine is in it for the longer haul and also for future greatness. It will continue to develop nicely for a number of years - I am totally convinced. A lovely wine of which you should buy as much as you can possible find! Served from magnum tonight. (score is 94+)
The '16 Von der Fels was gorgeous, with an almost savory bouquet, displaying provencal herbs up front, followed by notes of green apple, lemon, and crushed seashell. On the palate, I found weighty textures, yet nearly imperceptible; the result of a mix of intense tart citrus, zippy acidity and saline-minerality with a spring of lemon zest and savory herbs that revisited toward the close. The finish was fresh with a lasting buzz of mineral-strewn citrus and minerals. The longer this wine sat in the glass, the more it seemed to grow
Not as remarkable as the 2015 and 2012 but probably just a little difficult to taste at this stage. Limestone texture and citrus notes. Finish a little too short. Got better with air. Let´s revisit in 1 year.

What a treat! My first Keller bottle from this new vintage, "von der Fels" is a Cuvee of the younger grapes (20- 30 years) from their GG vineyards like Kirchspiel, Hubacker and Abtserde, declared as a VDP entry level Gutswein, on the nose still some aromas from the fermentation such as biscuits followed by a ripe rich fruit of Mango and pineapple, on the palate this bottle is more on the mineralic side of Riesling, very chalky, but still with fruit and orange peel, overall great depth, ending very long with a vivacious acidity showing us fans that this vintage is a great promise for the future! Will improve over a decade+, exceptional Riesling- QPR 16€ per bottle from estate, **(**), 91+ potential!
Tasted after the basic Riesling trocken. More mineral on the nose, a little darker, showing more depth and seriousness. On the palate a little less high pitched, more body and roundness, broader, very mineral, lots of power and intensity, very long and impressive. Great QPR and worth paying up for this in my view. 92-93+
Still painfully young! Lean, great purity and freshness, pretty dry and at this stage rather acid-driven, long mineral finish. Needs A LOT of time to open up - 4 days in this case. But even after that time, this wine misses some extract to give you the mouthfeel and balance of a Riesling-GG. That said, if you don´t expect Riesling on GG-level, this still is a great value! Usually, i love wines with a pronounced acidity. But in this case i hope, the acids will melt in better during the next decade. 89-91(+)?

Supreme treat for Riesling nerds.

Quite open on the nose - notes of herbs, white and yellow fruit, crushed stones. Still a little restrained on the palate - very bright, very mineral with lots of energy and lift. Lingering finish. Excellent. Drink or keep. 91-93

This is ridiculously good for around 20 Euros. Has aromas of stone fruits, lemons, chalk hints and honey. Its spherical, layered, freshly fruited, zingy white fruits palate has lovely depth. Ends longish, fresh and a bit tart. 12.5%. Lay down 3-4 years.

Really enjoyed this quite a bit. Medium lemon color. Vibrant nose of citrus, white florals, honeysuckle, white peach and some crushed rock. Singing on the palate with a blast of zippy acid to go along with stone fruit and citrus and mineral driven flavors. Finishes long. Should have bought a case of this wine.

Excellent.

As written many many times before this is a total stunner. This effort is so good I am always amazed by it. There is an almost perfect fruit balanced against an intriguing and light but still intense acidity. I cannot stop and I most likely will continue praising this effort. There is absolutely no problem cellaring this effort for a long time.

94 pts
