Tomato bush and tobacco. I’ve had this vintage half a dozen times and it never fails to satisfy. Juicy little red berries with some black and blue fruit thrown in. It has licks of herbs, sugar, spice and other things nice. Good thwack of acidity still, and fine ashen tannin. Only a hint of mint, though others at the tasting found mint more than I did. Perhaps it blows off with time in the glass/decanter. Anyway, speaking of time, this wine is becoming more textural. 93+

(Surprising) wine of the night given the wines on the table. This could be had for under $30 on release. A key vintage. Rich, savoury, but balanced. Ripe plum and cherry, with only the faintest touch of Coonawarra mint and the finest dark chocolate through the finish. This felt a lot like a fine McLaren Vale Cabernet. Tannins melt, and are completely absorbed in to the wine providing a structure for a very long drinking window. Outstanding, drinking well now and expect to do so for another 5 years before thinning out some. Wow.
So good for the price. Smooth and savoury, excellent slightly powdery tannin , good acid, big length. Aromas of dark fruit, chocolate , some slight coffee, earthiness. A great wine, built to cellar for decades to come.

When poured into a decanter, the predominant rich sweet fruit lept out markedly. Pencil shavings of quality wood and a whiff of underlying greenness were evident. The typical blackberry flavours were long and satisfying while the acid was surprisingly muted. The mouth grip on the finish suggests that another five years may further soften the finish although I doubt if the wine’s complexity will improve noticeably.

Great wine, great vintage in the sturdy, reliable Black Label heritage. Lifted notes of mint, tobacco and a good dark berry base. Good stuff. Look forward to seeing it age.

Delicious deep dark berry flavours on the nose and the palate shows these characters integrated with vanilla oak and some dusty tannins. Interestingly there isn’t any green capsicum or leafiness on the palate making the wine very appealing, approachable and hard to resist. Sadly it’s drinking so well I don’t have many left to see how it develops.

Taste with Langton's Wynn's Masterclass (virtual event): Appearance: mid-deep mulberry, not showing much development so far. Nose: blackcurrant, tobacco, milk chocolate, some vegetal notes. Palate: medium bodied, well structured with lots of acidity. Long dry finish. Very good.

Not as enthusiastic about this wine as most of the other scorers. PnP. Limited nose - dry Cab Sav notes. On the palate slightly sharp with some dusty tannins and dry wood / shrub with blackberry notes. Have another bottle I will keep to see how it deals with some age. Overall felt like a well made wine from not the greatest fruit - some good structure but not anything too special. For the price it was still a reasonable QPR, just not as good as some of the other scores suggested.
PnP,deep impenetrable garnet, immediate cassis, vanillin oak, creamy, voluptuous, dark chocolate, then some leafy notes, some spice, full bodied, dark fruited, well balanced, rounded tannins, excellent length and finish

{screwcap, 13.8%} Still a deep garnet. Beautiful nose of gently ripe currents, slightly leafy but never green, slight spearmint character. Voluptuous palate, stuffed with generous but gentle black fruit characters and flavours. The oak is quite soft, with a general vanilla and cedar tinge, as befitting the mixed barrel aging this cuvée has always had. It’s no Bordeaux - the tannins are too soft and diffuse - but it’s a lovely expression of Coonawarra cabernet at its friendly best, without being overblown. Low/medium powdery tannins, medium acidity, about medium weight if, in the end, fruit-dominated. Medium length finish, rich but gentle. Feels like the stucture is just a bit reticent to carry this through long aging, but, hey, it’s so nice to drink now that you’d keep some bottles to just see what will happen.

A fair dinkum Australian classic, and arguably one of our most consistent wines. The usual suspects are there: dark fruit, cassis, acid, tannin, and a hint of mint. But there’s a lightness on its feet that suggests a slight shift in style. No doubt this wine will age well; but Sue and team have made this approachable now. To quote someone I’d rather not: drink now or hold.
Deep purple colour. Bold aromas of dark fruits really leap from the glass. It’s actually more medium bodied that it smells, with cassis, plum, a bit of black cherry, herbs, some dark chocolate and salt bush. A bit of a distracting biscuit character from oak, but I’m being picky. Medium to long flavours with fresh acidity, but I must admit I was expecting more structure. Still, will live for a long time and is a classic at the price.

Great balance of acidity and fruitiness. Plum and black currant. This is going to be long lived, but already so drinkable and enjoyable at such young age. Great bargin for a great quality wine! Cellar!

A full bodied Cabernet Sauvignon of near purple hues and intense depth of colour. Well balanced acidity with soft tannins. Flavourful cherry and black-current and earthy Coonawarra overtones. This wine has many years of life left although very drinkable now.
Had a great experience here. Honestly felt this could have stood up against great cabernet from pretty much anywhere. Elegant but deep. Tightly structured - nothing out of place. Black fruited and a little drying charcoal. Smooth but with a fresh tannic edge that alludes to the future. Great beg., middle and end. If one criticism perhaps a little simple but it is so young.

It has shape, elegance and tannin more in keeping with classed Medoc. Perhaps Graves with its earthen and red dirt tannins. It’s also a very refined vintage. Unlike most Black Labels it feels very expensive early in life but it’s not overdone. Belle of the Ball. Love the purple (plum) and red (cherry) fruit through the 2015. While being very young, it’s in that pliant and supple phase where the acidity softens and the oak absorbs in to the wine making it oh so supple. Supple a very good word for the 2015 Black Label. And flawless. 4.5/5 95pts. Now to 20 years. I need to slow down my drinking of this vintage. Can be had in Australia for $32 today. It’s the best value wine in Oz.
I have guzzled down a few pallets of this wine over the years and the 2015 is one of the best. The color is dark red with red/black core. Nose shows masses of cassis, toasty oak and a touch of spice and the palate is rich, well balanced and long with the fruit and oak balanced by good acidity. There is some forest floor and mint but all in balance with the dark fruits. It will last for a decade or two though it is inviting to drink now. At current prices this wine is a bargain and a great display of the Coonawarra style.

This is possibly the greatest Wynns Black Label ever. Very smart investments in the vineyard and cellar have been showing in recent years but this vintage nature also provided a bit of magic.
Balance... that's the difference. It's produced a wine of greater charm than usual. It drinks remarkably well now and will sail on for decades. In this regard it reminds me somewhat of 1985 in Bordeaux.
On opening, the wine was reticent with red fruits and violets. I decanted it and noted that it is black/red, with an opaque rim, not the really dark of some Australian cabs. The nose started to develop (it was probably too cold initially) to reveal dark fruit (plums, cassis) and chocolate/mocha notes. The palate is very well balanced, with good dark and red fruit, some well integrated oak and acid. It is medium bodied, not a brooding monster, and drank well at only 4 yrs of age. I was expecting more density and tannins, but this is a fine wine that will age well, but can be drunk now.

A splash decant and started drinking 20min later. A little disappointed given the fuss but an hour or so later this was pretty darn nice. Wish I had more and great QPR
Very strong nose as soon the bottle is opened. Heaps of black fruits, eucalyptus and mint. Blackcurrants, with mild oak and pretty smooth tannins. This is quite good right now and should be able to age for the medium term.
GT Wine Limestone Coast Reds (8 Danks street, Sydney): Slightly jubey blackcurrant, spice, earthy, slight mint and a little toast. Juicy and fleshy, beautifully balanced, black fruit travels long, oak is restrained, slightly chalky tannins don't detract. Yum and, on second taste, this is just as enjoyable.
Intense smoky black berries, dry herbs, graphite and dusty cocoa. Need an hour for the nose to sort itself out. Very Pessac Leognan on the nose. Palate is very dry with minerals, black berries and herbs. Overall balance is on the lean side. Lacking a bit of richness in the mid-palate. Finish is deep and lingering, just a touch of bitter tannins in the aftertaste. The wine is still very young and should evolve nicely in the next 3-5 years. But it is not as good as the 2014.
Wynns Estate Cellar Door (Coonawarra): Pepper, brooding dark berry. Nice, easy drinking Cab. Claims to be a much more serious Cab with "5-20+ years" of aging potential but it lacks the structure to go 20 years.
The other half bottle tasted 3 - 4 days later: Not mellowed as much as hoped. Tannin remains musty or stale on the palate (a bit like the odour of grandfather's near abandoned workshop at the bottom of the garden).
Clearly struck this wine at a closed point. Gave nothing away. Obviously on the elegant and medium bodied spectrum. Not much more to say at this point. Just a baby but not my usual experience with this wine.
Much better on day 2 and after decanting 2 hours. Clear dark purple. Nose is clean and medium. Roses, ripe dark fruits cherry and blackberries, spices, hints of cassis, dark chocolate, some alcohol throwing off still. Dry with medium acidity. Soft fine medium tannins. Body is medium (+). Flavour is full and palate has ripe juicy blackberries, chocolate, spices. Finish is long. Wine is very well balance and simply delicious yet still retains familiar characters of Coonawarra. An excellent 92-93 pointer but not that quite special to make it into the 94-95 region.
Reminds me a lot of the 2015 Leconfield cab, maybe reflecting the Coonawarra vintage or current wine making fashion. Fruit is forward, but definitely not over ripe. Drinking really well now if you can handle the dusty tannins. Very nice.
{screwcap, 13.8%, A$27} Lots of talk about how good this is; I haven't tasted a recent vintage BL for a while. This is very ripe and generous; almost sweet on the palate. Tending more to blackberry than blackcurrant, and even with a hint of blueberry fruit. Tannins are very fine, low/medium level, medium acid. Perhaps what seems like very good balance highlights the sheer fruitiness of it; it's so luscious and obviously drinkable now that you suspect its longevity. Medium weight, lacks heat, and with time int he glass it does eventually give a little basil and twig nod to cabernet, rather than say a blend with shiraz or merlot. Probably good enough for a decade or so, not sure after that.
OK wine but not quite sure what all the fuss is about Seemed fairly ripe without much structure Good value for sure but for me there are plenty more enjoyable examples out there at a similar price point.
A clear but deep purple with strong tears in the glass. The nose has good black fruits, some plum, but also dark blackberry and blueberry. Dry with only medium acid and tannins Good body with flavours again being blackberry and blueberry rather than deeper flavours associated with Coonawarra cabernets. A medium finish because of the tannins it is good drinking now and could also be in the future, but I wonder whether it has the longevity many commentators claimed on launch.
I gotta say that I prefer Majella cabernet to the black label as a rule, but there is a lot of hype about this wine so I thought I'd grab a single bottle.
No doubting this is text book Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon. Medium bodied but towards the full bodied end. Seemless balance of fruit and tannin. Moderate 13.8% alc/vol shows that the quality of the fruit and winemaker are doing all the talking here. Will live for decades.
Yet, it is not a wine I am in love with. I do admire it a great deal though, especially considering it is yours for under $30. Well done Wynns.
Now, the 2015 John Riddoch... Hmm, that IS something to look forward to.
Lavender, cedar and cigar box on the nose. On the palate, raspberries and cream, blackcurrant, cedar, coffee grounds and mint. Slight dip to the mid palate. Good tannins and length.
Splashed bottle in to jug. Took a sniff. All black currant and blackberry. Two hours later, now having a taste. Exquisitely ripe fruit, more to boysenberry. A little cocoa and mint. Fine braids of graphite tannin. Excellent balance and length. Medium bodied. So seductive now, unusually so for a young BL Cab, yet also tightly wound, not giving away much more than fruit at this stage. 92 or 93? Excellent? Or excellent verging on outstanding? I'll go 92. As I mostly drink BL Cab at 10+ years old, and have already hidden several bottles of this vintage in the depths of my cellar, the boysenberry and lack of strict tannin in a youngster is just ever so slightly unnerving. Let's see what time brings.

The other half bottle tasted 3 - 4 days later: Not mellowed as much as hoped. Tannin remains musty or stale on the palate (a bit like the odour of grandfather's near abandoned workshop at the bottom of the garden).

Lovely nose. Fruit/acid good but something less than perfect in the palate, a coarseness in the tannin maybe. Expected more.

Clearly struck this wine at a closed point. Gave nothing away. Obviously on the elegant and medium bodied spectrum. Not much more to say at this point. Just a baby but not my usual experience with this wine.

The fruit more to the fore on the palate with juicy acidity and plentiful tannins. I'm always impressed by how well this wine is made considering it's price point. Excellent.

Very nice.

Opened too soon to be really enjoyable. Everything there but acid and tannins grappling a bit yet.

OK wine but not quite sure what all the fuss is about
Seemed fairly ripe without much structure
Good value for sure but for me there are plenty more enjoyable examples out there at a similar price point.

Already tasting like an aged wine. Very smooth and dry on the back palate. A great wine for the price.
