good lemon color, racy nose with pear and roasted walnuts, on the palate bright, pear and apple fruits, subtle brioche, vibrant and racy across the middle, fine joyous long finish with floral notes, this was showing wonderfully today and promises to flesh out very nicely with a little cellar time.

Nebbiolos, white truffles, Volume VII (Chicago, IL): Not the most complex of champagnes, but I really like the balance here of all the intense acidity and tart 2007 fruit, with a modest chalky quality, and a rounded texture from the dosage. Not as complex as the best champagnes, this is a great wine for drinking now. I've never been a big fan of Ruinart, but I think this wine in this vintage is pretty damn good (love 2007 chardonnay).

Served at 8-10 degrees as per the instructions. Very fine, intense bead. Lemony gold in colour. Subtle vanilla on the nose. Citrus on the front of the plate, resolving into clear lemon flavours, with a hit of sweetness on the back of the palate. Champagne study (Chicago, IL): Pretty textbook stuff. Drinks quite well, and has what you expect for this wine. Very fresh still, the youthful chardonnay acidity with just a hint of greenness is still very much in play. Mildly reductive on the nose, but that opens up to a more floral thing afterwards. Truly outstanding champagne. Golden color with hints of green, fine bubbles. On the nose lots of yellow and sweet green orchard fruits, some pineapple and jasmine notes, very mineral, vivacious with great delineation and depth, finishes long and buttery however not as fat as the older 2002. Simply a wonderful champagne.

Nebbiolos, white truffles, Volume VI (Chicago, IL): One of the better champagnes tonight. This is very clearly chardonnay with plenty of white fruit on the nose and palate. The fruit on the nose seems more acidic and less ripe; the fruit expression on the palate is riper and sweeter. A nice vein of acidity provides structure here. Compared to that other great 2007 champagne, the Comtes de Champagne, this is a little more rounded and sweeter. Both are outstanding and probably among the wines of the champagne vintage.
WB Boys Weekend; 10/14/2021-10/17/2021 (Highlands NC): I think this was the last wine opened, as we were really slowing down at this point. But, man was this delicious. This wine was dry and crystalline, with thoughts of slate and stones, like trocken Riesling. This had such a lovely swallow, with perceptions of pear, lime dust, and lovely green growing things, and juicy tart citrus. I really liked this wine, and it was the last but not least of four terrific vintage Champagnes. Kane's contribution. 94

Now in its prime drinking window, this offers refined melon, pear, wet stone, and hints of citrus on both the nose and the palate. It doesn’t have quite have the salinity of a 100% CdB blanc de blanc, but it’s racy enough. Acidity is balanced and well integrated at this point. Paired perfectly with jumbo lump crab; this could be enjoyed as an aperitif but will shine most with seafood served simply.
Will probably hold off my remaining bottles for another year - if you prefer your champs with more tertiary notes you’ll need to wait a few more years.

Tightly wound on the pour. Fresh, lively, effervescent nose, beautiful pale glow with fine pearl streaming. Sharp lemon peel zest, lemon curd, bright white fruits, and touch of oyster salinity came alive in 20 minutes. All need time to catch-up with the tension, energy and acidity, the latter of which is balanced. Five years patience will be rewarded with an exciting, spectacular wine that will bedazzle for 12 - 15 years more.

Dinner at Osteria Langhe (Chicago, IL): This is probably a lukewarm take, but this and the Taittinger Comtes de Champagne may well be the wines of the vintage. This has fantastic energy, almost scintillating from the acidity. The fruit is bright and clean, and the blanc de blancs expression is crystal clear here. A bit of pear and citrus, plenty of minerality; this is textbook champagne.

Dinner at Summer Pavilion (Summer Pavilion, Ritz Carlton, Singapore): Way too young, but this was quite a lovely drop. It had a really nice nose, with lovely, aromatic wafts of cream, toasted bread and yeast floating around a core of ripe red apples. Lovely stuff. The palate was where this really took off though. Powerful, weighty, yet effortlessly polished, with a lovely purity to its flavours of white fruit, mineral and nuts a little touch of spice trailing away into a longish finish. Bright acidity and a really fine mousse made up the rest of the picture. Still a baby, but this was a really well-made champagne. Good now, but this will be a beauty in 10 to 15 years.

Tasted outside (hot) with a cold bottle. The nose is not strong, but definitely some apple, pear, yeasty bread, and sight lemon. Lots of bubbles. Beautiful gold color. Definitely a bdb. Bright flavors of golden apple, ripe pear, and slight stone fruit - maybe peach. A long lingering finish. Impressive wine, and opened to celebrate a successful move to a new house.

Onklers Champagne mai 21 (Anders): Light yellow, with lively bubbles. Nose with minerals, yeast, baking spices, sweet fruit, and a maritime environment. This is classic French Champagne and it aches me to say this, but this is a style that can only be made in France. It rains terroir starting from the astonishing toasted almond, and yeast laden bouquet, right through the fine bubbles and toasted cake like finish. Just delicious...I think this is already peaking and should be drank over next 5 years...why not. Catch a star...Drink

Higher chalk and mineral but short of screechy. Not wild about ‘07 as a vintage. Has some of the nice brioche similar to DP but more higher pitched lemon citrus right now. March 2020 note consistent.

Virtual Oregon Pinot thanks to Jason (Zoom): Poured into 4 jars for transport at 5pm, drank at 6:30pm over 1 hr. This champagned is classy, clearly a bit young, and displaying many desirable characteristics. Lemon, seashell, white flowers, brioche and pear.

Virtual Pinots with a Little More (Home): Pale golden color. Transferred into jars for transport at 5pm; drank a glass over 40 minutes at 7pm. This was a little warm after transporting home, and I didn't have time to get it chilled back down. Still, the wine was impressive, with a wonderfully expressive and autolytic nose, filled with brioche and marzipan, fresh air, cool green orchard fruit dominated by pear, roasted nuts and dry minerality and honeyed notes. The palate is full bodied, but probably somewhat deceptive with its sheer elegance and taught racy style. This is again more orchard fruit with pear, then melon, while citrus seems more in the background. Gorgeous toastiness mixed with almond and honey cream. This is very harmonious and has a freshness along with the refined chalk and delicately creamy texture. I love the overall expression, nice and dry and very crisp. 5gm dosage vs the '06 at 10gm. I can't say I ever thought that previous vintages were noticeably sweet, but this is dry yet in no way is it stark. Wish I would have had more time to reflect on this, but just didn't have the time. May be underscored at 94pts.

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of light lemon colour, with fine bubbles, wide watery rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of citrus fruit of lemon, green fruit of green apple and pear, floral notes of blossom, mineral notes of stony, autolytic notes of toast and yeast, maturity notes of honey. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with high acidity, the wine has medium alcohol, with medium (-) body and medium intensity flavours of citrus fruit of lemon, green fruit of green apple and pear, autolytic notes of toast, mineral notes of stony, maturity notes of honey. The wine has a long finish. Conclusion: Very good quality Champagne with an intense nose showing great complexity, the wine has robust aromas with both the citrus and green fruit characters, and also toasty with minerality and also a hint of honey maturity. The wine has a refreshing acidity on the palate, with crisp and finesse on the body and decent concentration in flavours and a long length in the finish. It is ready to drink now but can further develop for another 4-6 years.

Very subtle. Dry straw, apple and pear on the nose. Very well balanced acidity. Very fine bubbles, not foamy or over-carbonated. Back palate was also nicely balanced with just the right amount of toasted oak, toast, pear and apple on the palate. Also a touch of honey, but not sweet. Certainly a great year for chardonnay in Reims. Bought at Ruinart in September 2019 for in-laws' 50th anniversary and just now getting around to drinking it outside with them on Thanksgiving 2020.

This evening was a Moorish theme, with recipes from Ben Tish’s book
PAGE 180 ENTRY Gordal Olives with Orange, Goats Curd, Cumin Salt Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 2007 Had high expectations – it was airy, floral, very good balance and you could taste the age. It was, however, not long. Perhaps it was the storage - we have had it in a Eurocave but it will have been in ‘shop’ conditions before that.
An excellent bottle of champagne, and far surpassing my tempered expectations. This may well be on par with the 2007 Taittinger Comtes (champagne of the vintage?). The nose shows some white citrus and some herbal elements, but it's the palate shines here. It's bright and lifted, with bright fruit and minerality, but also a breadth that fills the palate. Excellent champagne, and not just for the vintage.

Touch yellow flowers, white chalk, very ethereal, clouds, evaporates on your tongue; elegant, special, and long. Just what I look for in a BdB. My 2nd WOTN (or tied with the '02 Nicolas Francois Billecart). Guessed '04 Comtes. Blind DD at Capital Seafood.
Exceptional Champagne! Very French and near perfect. Beautiful mineral bedazzled bouquet of serious terroir over a fresh golden sea of fine bubbles. This is impressive! The bouquet and the fore palate was so good that it stole the show from mid palate. Only thing that kept this wine from scoring another 2 points to a 99. Beautiful stuff here! Drink

Popped and poured at refrigerator temp. Beautiful light straw color. Very fine bubbles. Light fruit nose, minimal yeast. Very refined, almost perfect balance. Just the right amount of acid, fruit. Low alcohol at 12.5%. We all agreed that this is one of the best Champagnes we’ve ever had. Easy 95 - 97 rating.

Just starting to come into bloom now, with aromas of stone fruit and melon. The acidity is well balanced by Ruinart's "fleshier" palate, though this remains precise at all times. Dosage just right. Still a few years from its peak. If your BdB's normally are 100% CdB, try this cuvee - 25% of its blend is sourced from Grand Cru villages in the Montagne de Reims.

At present this wears a heavy producer signature, a bit 7up-ish with that reductive canned pear character. Strongly leesy, toasty. On day 2 the heavy reductive fruit character is dialed down. Layers start to appear: spiced pear with good midpalate depth and a lingering honeysuckle note. I like this much more now. Holding at this level on day 3. Overall this doesn't appear to be as concentrated as the 2002 (no big surprise there) but it will put on more weight in time. Next bottle in 2-3 years.

Light gold color. Split bottle over 2.5 hours. This was a brilliant bottle. Anyone who doesn't think '07 a worthy vintage need look no further than this, '07 Comte or Cristal to see the beauty here. Frankly I'm baffled by the lower than expected CT scores on this Champagne. The nose is pervasive from the start, highly autolytic and offering a melange of alomnd, roasted nuts, brioche and toast with pear spice on a fine crystalline stone minerality. There's even a hint of some subtle tropical fruit in the upper register. The palate reminds of CdC with its lacy elegance, toasted, nutty, fresh and lively, red fruits mix in with the pear and clean crisp seashore minerals as a little lemon creeps in on the finish. This is long and bright. Drinking great now but this should age nicely.

Holiday dinner with friends at French Embassy, Washington D.C. (Petit Bouchon Restaurant, French Embassy): The 2007 Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs, which I tried last month and liked enough to do a video on my website (wine-chronicles) came across nicely coiled in as a young vintage Champagne would, but full bodied, too, displaying ripe pear finesse echoed in the finesse of the bubbles. The finish was marked by lime and wet stone, leaving me with the overall impression of a smooth and elegant white Burgundy with les bulles. For lovers of tertiary notes in the Champagne, stash this away for a few more years and it will gain in complexity.

Ruinart appears to be bringing down the dosage in this cuvee and it’s made it’s a splendid move. All the precision I associate with this house, but joe without the fat. With an hour and a half of air the complexity of the Chardonnay really comes out - wonderful stuff. If drinking now, would definitely benefit from a decant. This is all about precision rather than power.

Tasted at a local wine shop that I frequent, with a small group led by Nicole from Moet Hennessy. Bright medium yellow color. Nose is a bit muted at first, them opens with a good bit of swirling in the glass with the resultant loss of bubbles (too cold?). Fruity and creamy on the nose with a little yeast and a slightly medicinal aroma I had a hard time identifying. Medium+ to high acidity. I found this more on the lean and elegant bodied side of things rather than the dense and chewy side. Palate had some bitter lemon on the attack then a saline mid palate and lemon curd on the medium length finish. Very bright and energetic. Probably still needs some bottle age and could warrant a higher score in the future..
MW Prestige Cuvees Champagne Panel Tasting, nose of lemon, honey, and Chinese Apple, big body, very tasty, mouth filling fruit, slightly forward tasting today, needs 5 yeas to peak, good acid, long finish.

Ripe, dense and pretty powerful, but at the same time layered and creamy, but also with chalky notes, lemon oil, some flowery notes too and some smoke. It‘s medium-full bodied, feels weightless at the same time and has nice medium-high acidity and creamy mousse. Very good length. Still very young but this will be impressive with time. (94-96) On day 2 it shows even better, hugging you with open arms, full, rich, slightly creamy but with very good depth.

Love this at 54°F, a little higher than normal, bringing out every component of lemon meringue pie (without the sweetness), lemon, toasty meringue, and graham crust. At usual colder temps, the crispness brings out a touch more citrus, still delicious. A big fan of this version of Dom Ruinart.

Taste of slate, green apples, grapefruit, and orange peel. Complex. With air, the wine becomes more harmonious and round. High acidity that is well integrated.

Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout with small, steady beading. Nose of matchstick, yellow pears and yellow apples. Flavors of green apples, lemon zest and a hint of red cherry. Bright acidity, full bodied. Drink or hold. No rush here.

The bouquet and the fore palate was so good that it stole the show from mid palate. Only thing that kept this wine from scoring another 2 points to a 99. Beautiful stuff here! Drink
