I brought this to a dinner for my wine group, at a Mediterranean restaurant. MY WOTN, for the rest of the group it was 2nd, behind the Spanish Tempranillo AAlto. I had the current vintage of this wine, at the winery this past summer, and I'm glad I was able to wait on this bottle, because at this stage, it is drinking really well. Medium+ length finish, a beautiful nose, not quite full bodied. Dark fruit on the palate and nicely balanced tannins.

I've had this one across several vintages, some more age-worthy than others. I'd say this is ready and will not get ready. In fact, maybe it's lost a step. That being said, STILL a lovely wine. More loamy earth than I'm used to, in a good way, red fruit all integrated with the oak giving it some nice cedar notes. Great wine.

Decanted for 3 hours. Wine really opened up as the night went on. It f you are a Dunn fan, this wine is a must. It was only $60, which makes it even better. The fruit is subtle and elegant. I like that it’s not overwhelming fruit. Glad I have another bottle to try in a couple of years.

After a one hour decant, still plenty of fine, bold, tannic structure. Prune juice, intense leather, menthol, black cherry, raw blackberry pipe tobacco. 15+ years left on this one.

This was the third of four total. At 7 1/2 years old, this is just a very, very good wine. 100% Cabernet I believe. Definitely not a “Napa” cab, nor a Chilean or a Bordeaux. I can’t point to anything specific or spectacular, it’s just a well made very balanced wine. Sort of the iron fist in a velvet glove feel. I think this will go for years, but is quite drinkable right now. My wife and I both got a cherry fruit note, velvety tannins, some cedar…I also detected what I thought was a “red dirt” note, maybe just a tiny bit like a Coonewarra cab. Next one won’t be for another few years

Based on the CT scores I expected much more. Perhaps this is over the hill or in a dumb phase...not sure which. The fruit was retrained behind some earthy tertiary components and never really came forward. I will wait another five years on the other two bottles in the cellar.

Definitely a tougher vintage for most growers in Walla Walla - After tasting again yesterday, this one needs to be decanted as most have suggested - it evolves in the glass over time but decanting at least 30-60 minutes removes some unwound early tastes and eventually settles on a nuanced cab style with some aromatics that include floral/violets possibly and maybe some cassis and graphite - not a super intense nose tbh. Palate includes a cool/silky mouthfeel with deep blue fruits and a blackberry sweetness that gives way to a mid level tannin (not as much tannic structure for me as others have found) and a relatively short lived finish. Unlike others, this does not at all taste like Dr Dunn’s Howell mountain cabs and lacks complexity and that classic tannic structure and deep pencil lead/stone mouthfeel. But, it really shouldn’t taste like that given a massively different terrior and honestly a different production winemaking team.

One of the wines I opened for my annual WWC hosting.
This is 100% cab by Randy Dunn. Very perfumed. Quite a bit of reduction/sulphur on the nose at first…gave way to aromatics of violet, blackberry, bing cherries, dark mocha and graphite. On the palate it has plenty of dark cassis, dark and inky fruits, charcoal, dark chocolate and a finish that has a fair bit of tannic bite. This needs a few more years (it’s a Dunn made cab, after all) after which I think there is room for a few points to be added. Very nice WA state cab in the making. Would be fun to open one of these next to a Quilceda Creek, as the tannins on both at 7yrs are likely enough to rip the enamel off your teeth!

Instantly approachable on PnP. An hour later, warming up in the bottle, it felt smooth, soft and light, not what you would expect from a Cabernet. Very elegant and enjoyable.

Deep purple color and I mean deep- totally opaque with no lightening near the rim- at all.
Restrained nose of black fruits, vanilla, and hints of cassis and blueberry liqueur. With some air and coaxing the aromas became slightly more pronounced.
Full bodied with plenty of acidity and tannic structure. As far as the flavor intensity- same as on the nose- its all there- just seems to be holding a bit back now. The finish is medium plus.
Overall very well done- very atypical for Washington State Cabernet in that patience is definitely required. Revisit this one in 5 years.

Four hour decant. Very deep ruby magenta color (more ruby than magenta). Cherry, copper penny, red currant, green pepper and honeyed cedar on the complex, earthy nose. Smooth, plush palate, with good acidity. Firm tannins on the longish finish.
This is a well made wine, but feels like it has underachieved. There is some sort of identity crisis, as though it’s trying to be Bordeaux and doesn’t need to. Overall, the fruit is too diminutive for my palate.

What a excellent showing of a Washington Cab. And Washington can make amazing cabs. This vintage is wonderfully big with dark fruit and lots of spice. The finish has nice medium tannins and is quite long. There is a bit of tar and leather nicely layered with the fruit and acids.

Our 41st wedding Anniversary, and for the 4th year in a row, we’ve enjoyed a vintage of this wine. Dark garnet in color. Blueberry, leather, and flint. Perfectly balanced acidity and tannins. Will be good or better throughout this decade! Well done, Mr. Dunne and Nicault!

Decanted for two hours. Thick, dense and almost lavish, but not at all overtly extracted, with voluptuous curves. The tannins are polished and layered, with a coating Cabernet essence that covers every millimeter of your palate. Dark chocolate brownie, creme de cassis, Turkish coffee and green tobacco, with dark berries. This finishes long and expands, showing many of the same nuances. Great mouthfeel, with true dimension; throughout this shows a lot of elegance. Drink 2022 - 2037.

Dark purple fruit - blackberry, dark currants, and a little dark cherry. Smooth mid-palate, however, I expected a little bigger/fuller fruit in light of the 95 rating from WA and 97 from Jeb Dunnuck - medium body. Nice rich flavors of dark berries and some spice/tobacco. Fairly long finish. Decanted for one hour and drank over a couple more. Improved a little with time. Not bad at this stage but I believe this vintage probably needs another year or two for the fruit to open-up more and hopefully fill-out some. According to James Suckling, try in 2020 which I believe makes sense. In my opinion, closer to the 93 rating from Suckling at least at this stage. 100% cab.
A friend and I tasted this at the Woodinville tasting room on 8/30/18. It had a rich, reserved bouquet of cassis, blackberry, black cherry, toast, mocha, cocoa and mineral aromas. The palate was rich, dry and tight with flavors that followed the nose.

Hommage a DryCab - Washington Wines release; 5/3/2018-5/5/2018 (Various spots in Walla Walla): Again a wine that is clearly much too young, but is made for more of the long haul. There's a dusty/drying tannin to this. Blackberry underneath. Touch of pepper. A wine that is more accessible than I think of for Randy Dunn normally, but still one that would benefit from time.

Had a couple of glasses at a work dinner on Thursday. We ended the meal with a half bottle left, so the host stuck a cork in it and offered it to take home. I obliged but wasn’t able to revisit until Sunday.
Distracted by the business conversation, no notes to speak of on the initial glasses beyond being pleased with the quality of the wine ordered and wishing the club was a bit more liberal in their use of decanters. That said, it was readily drinkable.
The Sunday half bottle...looks and smells better than it tastes. Flavor-wise it is enjoyable but it is a bit thin upfront and in the middle. Somehow the finish is on the long side. I haven’t tasted the 2015 Long Shadows lineup (yet) but I expect I wouldn’t linger very long here in anticipation of the other offerings. Certainly an inferior vintage to the 2007 I had recently.

Opaque red-purple. Herbs. Some alcohol on nose. Briary-brambly. Opens after 1 hr. Good depth on nose and palate. Good length. Bright acidity, fair amount of tannin. Some drying oak. Very well put together. Seems like it would reward a few years in bottle. Like it. Blackberry on nose as it opens. Lots of flavor but not quite the transparency to get me to 90. Nice drink.
