This 375ml was the last of my 2 bottles. I last had this in 2005. Light golden yellow color. This was not as sweet as I expected. Still drinking very well with notes of strawberries, basil and green apple. Fine minerality on the finish. I liked the bottle I had back in 2005 better but this was still fine. 94 points.

Subdued and faded sweetness combines with rocky and mineral notes. This bottle was started to display old paper notes on the finish. I've had fresher bottles that still have more vitality. 92-93

Happy Birthdays (Home): Half bottle. Deep yellow amber. Fantastic melange of petrol, mandarin orange, marmalade, and spices. Concentrated but nimble due to excellent acidity, the sweetness is hardly noticeable because of its great balance. Typical dessert wine in the Trimbach style, this comes across as less rich than most producers' Vendange Tardives. I was much more impressed with this tonight than the first time I tasted it a few years ago.

Alan's Vosne Romanee Birthday at BOKA (BOKA Restaurant, Chicago IL): Light golden color with a mainly lemon peel nose with some wet stone and floral as well. A beautiful palate with great acidity, minerality, and length, but very dry in style for a SGN. I didn't view it as a dessert wine, but loved it nevertheless.

Trimbach Frederic Emile Retrospective--1979 to 2001 (Absinthe Restaurant, San Francisco): Slightly deeper color, like the '86 regular cuvee. Very complex nose that is a synthesis of herbs, fruit, and here, for the first (and only) time, a touch of botrytis and honey. High pitched, excellent concentration, terrific intensity and acidity, and a melange of peach and spices. Very lively, young, relatively light, and not that sweet for SGN wine. As good as it was, I must say that I still preferred the top dry wines. Outstanding nonetheless, but I wouldn't kill for it.

With sushi at home. Stunning! Holy cow! I didn't expect this. Loads of apricots and honey and almonds. This is pure sin in a bottle. Wait to have it with foie gras next time!

Tasting Dinner at Sweets and Savouries (Chicago, IL): Golden amber colors with a nose of honey suckle and sweet white fruits. For an SGN, this was surprisingly dry. White fruit, honey, lychee and touch of boytris glide easily across the palate. Well made and fun to drink.

This was a really odd wine - practically no sweetness at all. Certainly not worth the market price. Full caramel color. Rich aroma of ripe yellow fruit with hints of botrytis. Rich palate of butterscotch yellow fruit. 4/06

This wine was clearly the best Trimbach I have ever had (that includes several different vintages of the Clos Ste Hune). It was perfectly balanced with notes of baked pear and apricot. Wonderful backbone of minerality. What put this wine in the classic category was not only its balance but its complexity with secondary flavors on the finish. 97 points.

Birthday with Vosne Romanee (Boka - Chicago IL): I recall liking this quite a bit, but that it wasn't SGN sweetness to my shot palate at that point in the evening
