Ripe, still youthful, dark-fruited, with good balance and energy. Good with food, and likely to develop further over the next few years. Will keep for 5+ years.

Still in it's early maturity, but has opened up and is ready for business. Tight and dark core from the Mourvedre and rounded but present tannins. Insane QPR in a great vintage. Drink now and 3-5 years from now.

Red berries, spices and herbs on the nose. Juicy, warm and strong on the palate with the taste of plums, dark cherries, spicy and a little pepper. Grapes: about 30% each Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah with 10% Carignan

This still seems rather young, with a firm structure underpinned by some tannin. However, it is very good now, with rich, concentrated, dark, spicy fruit. I bought this recently for current drinking, but should try to hold some back for a year or two.

D+0h: medium deposit in the filter, a little bit in the bottle, smells of currant and raspberry D+4h: purple red colour, smells of currant, blackberry, violets, dark chocolate and eucalyptus, has a little bit of residual sugar, so not completely dry, smooth in the mouth, medium body, in the mouth blackberry, raspberry and violets, in the aftertaste blackberry, violets and dark chocolate, good length (30 sec), really great red wine.

No contemporaneous notes. Decanted, gave about 20-30 minutes of air. Tasted like Beaucastel - but without the heft and complexity that one associated with the CDP. Earthy notes and dark fruits on the nose. This was excellent for about 1 1/2 hours and then started to fade a bit. The 2016 St. Damien Gigondas served immediately afterward was not drinking as well presently, but has a lot more promise for development, and was probably the better wine. (91-92).

A dark colour, still young-looking; very deep, rich, spicy, slightly burnt fruit; some tannin still, but the wine is very attractive now, concentrated and long. Should keep well and improve further.

Fantastic wine with great QPR. It's called "baby" Beaucastel, because most people can't afford their $90 or more ChdP. I'm curious why Spain didn't "invented" this concept? Rhetorical question. France is France. You don't urge with France about their wines 🙂 Let's go to the business. Smell? To make it simple - flowers and earth mixed with red cherry. Simple, but addictive. The taste is very complicated. Sweet notes of red cherry, plum, raspberry, blackberry mixed with spice from the very second. Long fruity finish. The most important thing - balance, structure, lively acidity and dusty, ripe tannins. What else do we need? Jeff Leve - 94 JS - 94 RP - 92 JD - 92 Decanter - 92

Quite a dark colour; a deeply flavoured wine, with blackberry and plum, and savoury/smoky overtones. Well structured and attractive now, but will keep and develop for perhaps 5 years. Decanted 2 hours.

Nice fruit, good balance, some tension. it is reminiscent of Ch Beaucastel CdP - actually more like it than classic CdR. More complex than the price would suggest. Great QPR.

Informal notes. Really nice Cote de Rhone, more like a CdP. Nicely ripe and fresh wine. Nose was plummy, dusty. Palate was medium bodied, red fruits, medium long finish, a bit tannic still. Showed really well and quite young and fresh. A 2016 Vieux Telegraphe I had the day before showed like a wine ten years older and much more tired.

Excellent. Mini-CdP hitting its stride with kirsch up front, plummy bits, some roasted earth, spice, deeper notes come in, fruit-driven. Hard to put down. Drink this over the next several years.

14% abv
Nice QPR at $24 USD

Hour decant, this has a wonderful nose of garrigue, cherry and herbal notes. The palate exhibits cranberry, cherry sage, underbrush and pepper with edgy acidity and firm tannins. Medium in mouthfeel with a medium length finish. Nice effort for a Cotes du Rhone.

Definitely one of the better Côtes du Rhônes I’ve had. No rough edges. Lots of dark fruit. Didn’t decant and don’t feel like it needed it. Only thing I would say is it didn’t really evolve over the night, so could have been a bit more interesting in that respect.

Finished the bottle previously started by Coravin. Much improved. Better balance, no harshness, sweeter fruit. Complemented lamb tagine very nicely. Perhaps the food match just didn't work first time? Thus may still improve though.

Two small glasses by Coravin. Deep purple/crimson. Quite astringent and tannic, perhaps not helped by food accompaniment (lamb shanks braised in red onions, red wine and balsamic vinegar). Fruit was not keen to show. Either this needed more air or more time, is in a 'dumb' phase or just not that good. Judgement reserved.

Fairly high acid, alcohol hidden; not terribly complex and doesn’t scream southern Rhone. Had high hopes on opening one of these, but a bit disappointed. However, I think this needs more time.

This is in a great spot. It doesn't show the 14.5% abv much at all. The fruit is still juicy and ripe, but it retains amazing freshness and balance and is utterly delicious. The tannins are very fine and still are plentiful but not too obtrusive or overpowering. The acidity is just right - keeping the wine lifted. The finish is decent. The wine lacks persistency and complexity, but at this price point that is to be expected. I plan to drink my remaining bottles through 2026 as I don't see this getting much better than it is now, but I have no doubt this will hold another decade+ if interested.

Nice cork. Medium dark pomegranate red. Sun-drenched nose of crushed red and black berries, garrigue, crushed limestone and a slight hint of horse. Sweet gobs of fruit, dusty tannins, garrigue, wood influences and some savoury undertones. Perhaps a touch of brett or even TCA but not enought to distract too much from the overall experience. Very smooth with a moderately long finish. Probably slightly off. NR.

This “Baby Beaucastel” is a blend of 40% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 20% Syrah & 10% Cinsault, with 14.5% alcohol. It comes from 30 hectares located on the border of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, to the east of the Grand Vin vineyard. It was aged in oak casks for 6 months. Aerated for an hour in a carafe before lunch, it then continued to blossom beautifully in the glass. The nose is full of red fruits (strawberry jam), black olives, violets, a bit of blood orange and a not disturbing hint of heat. The palate follows with a voluptuous substance and a rich and dense core of very ripe and juicy fruit. The aromatic is not crazy complex but the masterful balance, the richness and the concentration of small fine tannins make this wine terribly delicious. The acidity brings freshness and energy to leave a floral and spicy finish. I had never drunk a CdR of such a high level, I absolutely loved it! It's ready for business but I think holding on for another 2 or 3 years can be the right thing to do. [Photo on Instagram]
Young still. Surprised how refreshing this was. Raspberries with some acidity. Tannins not very noticeable. Held up well to lamb tagine and couscous. Will see how the other half of the bottle is in due course.

Popped and poured. Mourvedre well--apparent in this wine. Very dark red, opaque. Good viscosity. Right in the middle of its sweet spot; creamy, smooth, with hints of cocoa and cherries. Plenty of acid means a nicely balance wine. No danger of decline apparent at this time, in fact it should hold here if not improve for at least several more years. 5-12-16-8: 91/100.

Popped and poured. Bloody black-cherry color. Nice provencal nose with the mourvedre making its presence felt. Brooding. Purplish fruit in the mouth, young, still needs time, but already satisfying at this stage. Nice balance and structure, this should stand the test of time. Should be best in about five years. 5-13-16-8: 92/100.

Confirmation of my note of June 2020. It's a good, very approachable wine, drinking well now, harmonious and well-balanced (albeit 14.5% alcohol). Not hugely complex, though. Drink now or over the next few years: no need to wait, but no hurry either.

Another spectacular showing. Very clean, as is the house style. Concentrated and saturated purple flowers, purple berries, purple root vegetables, an impression of purple precious stones, similar to Côte de Brouilly and Fleurie. All this purple comes replete with boysenberry and blueberry top notes. Also showing lavender, peppercorns, coco powder, herbs, and pipe tobacco, backed by impressive black sand and mineral notes.
Striking tension, cut, and lift. Medium plus acid, gritty tannins. The Mourvèdre and Cinsault stand out. Seductively framed, deeply substantive. Some vintages of the producer's CdP do not achieve this level of quality. Every bit as good, on account of its roundness, balance, and absence of detractions, as the same vintage Janasse Vieilles Vignes tasted recently.
This will age for another decade with ease. So enthralling in its present state, however. Crazy good QPR!
Solid like the last bottle, this is in a really good place right now, with notes of bramble fruit, damson, dark cherries, strawberries, forest floor, vanilla, savory spice. The palate is rich and spicy with dark plumy fruit, crushed violets, savory undertone and refined tannins, the finish is medium and lingers slightly. Drink now over the next 5 years. It won't improve.
Better after 24 hours. Rich and powerful nose of dark fruits, plums, blackberries, some vanilla and menthol; equally rich in the mouth, without being too 'hot' like a lot of southern Rhone can often be. Full bodied, lush; lovely with some home-made koftas. Postscript- after 48 hours open it’s really opened out, some barnyard coming through and an almost port like richness (not the sweetness obviously), really delicious

Outstanding, just like my last bottle. Tannins are so refined, they don't intrude at all. It's a hair too ripe for my taste, but not too much. This is much better than the 2017 vintage. This drinks like CdP (not like the 2016 Beaucastel CdP - that is a big step up from this, but this is a step up from other CdRs) - amazing value.

Based on previous experiences with older vintages, I wasn't really expecting this to be ready for my palate but was keen to get a sense of it. I decanted half the bottle and consumed over 3 hours on the first night and then finished the bottle on the second night. The wine seemed a little light initially but really deepened over 2-3 hours exhibiting loads of red/black fruits and chewy tannins. It was the same from the bottle on night two. This will easily age for 8-10 years and develop complexity but if you're impatient then decant two hours ahead and enjoy with rich foods.

18 months since my last bottle; still young and better on day 2. If you had told me this was Beaucastel CdP I’d be inclined to believe it. Tremendous balance, showing ripe but taut fruit, both red and black, welded to a rose-hip tartness, a seam of iron-rich minerals and stone, and a savory animal muskiness entwined with delicate florals. No hint of sweetness nor excess. Glad to have more.

Decanted 4hrs. Initially a bit blocky on the first few sips, but very quickly rounded into form, splendid form. Dark raspberry fruit is set against a rather powerful frame, unusually so for CdR. Iron shavings and the suggestion of Provençal herbs hang around the perimeter, but I’d hazard a guess with cellar time, these will become more pronounced and integrated. A strong floral note on the closing stage adds additional appeal. All this wine needs is a little time.

91/92. Half Bottle. Has aromas of plums, raspberries, rocks, leather. Its medium to full bodied plump yet finessed red, black and blue fruits palate has got lovely density, freshness and length ending with a slight alcoholic hint.14.5%. Excellent QPR as always. Lay down 3-5 years.
Something was off about this bottle. It had an almost raisin or balsamic note on night one, which could mean any number of things from faulty cork to heat damage, but the odd thing was that it seemed to freshen on night two. Still maybe not 100%, but definitely better. Odd phenomenon, as wines showing a hint of oxidation seldom improve for my tastes and typically worsen. Hopefully my other bottles are better but this wasn't bad on night two.

Half Bottle. 92/93: Has full aromas of redcurrants, rocks, plums, lightly peppery blackberries and cherries. This has a really impressive, juvenile medium to full bodied spherical red fruited, plush and broad palate which ends with excellent length.14.5%. Lay down 5-10 years easily. Excellent QPR at under 20 Euros. On day 2 is a lovely 93. This is good as Beaucastel in an average year.

Pretty mediocre cdp that makes me wonder if the pour was bad. A pretty mediocre nose, very thin with almost a paint smell, and the palate didn’t improve the impression—thin is the word I’d use.
Very good Coudoulet. Very much a "baby Chateauneuf" and, for me, this is more to my liking than most of what comes from CdP these days, avoiding the excesses too often seen there. Extremely well balanced with a nice, pure beam of fruit, and a good depth to the palate.
Decanted for 1 hour - got better with air. Dark red/purple color. Fig, pomegranate, blackberry, garrigue, wet stone/ mineral on nose. Medium+ body, medium acidity, medium tannins and long finish. Flavor profile consistent with nose. 91-92
This is outstanding wine. Just incredible for the price. The nose is a bit reticent (although lovely if you put in the effort), even after a decent period (3+ hours) of decanting. Other than that, it's an incredible wine. Doesn't show its relatively high alcohol at all. Medium+ body. Tannins are still strong. No signs of age. Cherry and some dark fruits on the nose and palate. Nice acidity. Beautiful fruit. Long finish. Drinking great now, many years left!

I'm not going to score this. I like it which shows after 13 bottles. I had intended to keep it, believing it would benefit but nibbled away continually mostly because of not having anything else interesting to drink in between bottles. It will benefit from 2 more years if you have patience but is quite enjoyable now ... a glass waits for me in the kitchen. I confess to have done this with other wines, purchased with intent to cellar and 'nibbled' only to see the bottles gone. Don't do this!
Dark purple, with scents of warm dark berries, spices and a bit of something minty. Palate follows, cherries, plum, garrigue with plenty of acidity. Medium to full bodied, this rich ripe wine shows well now but should improve as the drying tannins mellow out. Pure, silky and smooth, nice qpr.

Half Bottle. 92/93. Impressive aromas of plums, chalk, raspberries, and strawberries and light spice. Has a lot of power, verve, plushness, fruit and length with tongue tingling tannin. Impressive and young. 14.5%. Excellent QPR at under 20 Euros. Is a 93 on day 2 and 3. Lay down 2-4 years. I agree is a mini Chateauneuf. Needs 5-6 hrs aeration+.
Dark color with big syrupy legs. Black and red fruit on the nose. A medium body wine with lots of fruit followed by spice and alcohol on the finish. Something is making my tongue tingle consistently. I will wait at least a year before opening next bottle. Hopefully it will become more integrated with time.

No rhone expert, but this is delicious and easy to drink. Smells fruity, rich, dry. Tastes fruity, dry, and dry again. Black fruits, and red too, but the acidity of the wine keeps them all separate. Haven't tasted the grand vin to see the difference, but I'm going to order another 6 bottles of this. At the worst, you can drink this anytime, anywhere, with almost anything, has to be a good qpr.

I wasn't sure if this was going to be ready to drink but it is quite approachable already. Very deep colour with a purple tint. Good bouquet. Wanted to do a quick checkup on this, and yes little bottle variation this is a superstar for the price, so much going on from core of dark red fruit, kirsch, wild herbs, rich yet succulent palet, this outshines many other Chateauneuf du Pape wines at x2 or x3 the price. For the price, this cannot be beaten.

Not giving this one a numerical rating. Opened for 3h before drinking but didn’t decant. Poured through Vinturi. Day one was very mute with not much personality on nose or palate. Day two a whole other story: lush fruit and lots of depth. Wouldn’t touch for another couple of years.

Tasted alongside an '04 Barolo - quite a contrast. Didn't take good notes but most importantly I really enjoyed this wine. Dark purple color Sappy red fruit on nose & palate with some baking spice. Fruit has very bright and fresh. Full body, medium acidity, medium- tannins and medium+ finish. Look forward to drinking this over the next 10 years. 91-92 range.
PNP. Purple color, no sediment. On nose, eucalyptus/mint, garrigue, wet stone, sweet cherry and plum. On palate, similar flavor profile ex. eucalyptus/mint. Medium acidity/tannins and long finish. Excellent wine. 91+/-
PnP. Bright young red plum purple. Red fruits, tobacco, garrigue and light fennel. Res plums, dried cherry and dried cranberry aromas. Good fruit extract, high tannin, dry finish that is moderately long. The flavours are all in the fresh and dry red fruit profiles. This is quite a serious, structured wine that needs a few more years to knit together and mellow out. Excellent QPR.

Tasted over three days, alongside the same vintage Beaucastel. Put simply, this is stunning! It features a saturated purple berry bouquet and profile, with enthralling textural weight, backed by medium plus to high acid and luxurious powdery tannins. In addition, the wine is clean, shows sweet herbs, exotic spices, desert fruits, dark coco nibs, and rockin' (pun intended) minerality. Seamless, exceptionally long, profound balance. It held form over all three days, showing best on the second and third. It will last for at least another decade, probably longer, and it might improve. A steal!
Also noteworthy: The average pro scores of this and the main wine diverge by approximately five points...and that is just ridiculous! A two to three point divergence better expresses the quality difference. And, if tasting side by side, many will likely prefer this, as both wines sit now. Last, this is one of the rare occasions in which a JS score, typically inflated by three to six points (sometimes seven), actually hits the mark.
Not so clear bouquet, but long long aftertaste - the best of the wine. A bit too much tannin - wait a few years to drink. Drink with food now. Similar taste like chateauneuf de pape I think. Still a bit too expensive wine - buy only on offer. 30% Grenache 30% Mourvèdre 20% Syrah 20% Cinsault http://www.smv.dk/pdf/Beaucastel%20Coudoulet%20de%20Beaucastel%20Rouge.pdf

This is an interesting wine, not what I thought from reading ... drink 2018-2028 (for those who saw Robinson's 17.5 rating I suggest she was seeing its ultimate potential). I'd be curious how this stacks up with the Beaucastel Rouge (own 2015 but not available here for 2016).
The Coudoulet is medium body, exceptionally well balanced between fruit, tainnin, acid. Over 2 days, 1st day acid shielded the flavors somewhat, second day subdued. In comparison to the Grand Veneur Champauvins this is less open, much less overt fruit. It lacks the same degree of richness in the middle, undefined finish. I reserve judgment on providing a score. I do think it has a good future and will drink well for some time, not sure if so for me with limited 100 bottle temperature storage. In comparison to the overpowering fruit filled Champauvins this is positively tame. Maybe I should blend the 2 :-). For those who have larger storage or live in cooler spaces, best to wait a couple years or more for the next bottle. I have 5 more, will try one with extended decanting.
The wine was medium to dark purple in colour and had a reductive nose. It offered sweet, ripe red and dark fruit, blackberry, violets, herbs, spice, liquorice, vanilla and a hint of stony mineral notes on the palate, with lively acidity, fine tannin, and very good length of the dry finish that stood in a pleasant contrast to the fruit sweetness.
The medium- to full-bodied, ripe, smooth and balanced wine had a plush, enticingly smooth texture. The wine was a little simple, but had great concentration and the lovely texture stood out. This Coudoulet de Beaucastel outclassed quite a few of the Châteauneuf-du-Papes and Gigondas I had over the last couple of weeks. You can actually drink this now (and if you do it will be hard to keep your hands of your other bottles), but the wine should reward five or six years in the cellar and should continue to drink well past that. That said, I liked the wine better on day one than on day two as it became more loosely structured over night. Very good value. 92 for day one.
This is extremely impressive and has lovely length, refined power yet panache and depth. Benefits from 5-6 hrs + aeration. 14.5%. Fantastic QPR at under 20 Euros. Can lay down for 3 years + or drink now with carnivore food!

Color la ruby turning to magenta....the nose is open on red cherries, guarigue and pepper. The intensity of the aroma is puzzling for a second wine ! just oozing complexity. In the mouth acidity is medium high, tannins are medium high and alcohol is medium. The entry is refreshing with notes of red cherries herbs licorice transitioning to structured tannins that are still drying and an impressive finish again I cant believe this is the "second wine"....what will the 2016 beaucastel taste like of this is like this !!! stock up on this guys....I was worried alcohol levels would be high but not the case...this will hit the sweet spot in a few years.

This is just fantastic, with a deep ruby this has aromas of ripe red fruit, kirsch and spice the palate was full and lush yet with elegant tannins, bright red cherries, liquorice, spice, black pepper and a straight finish. For the price this cannot be beat. Stocking up the cellar since this will reach it's peak in 5ish years
Dark, alluring fruit perfumes with garrigue and grilled meat, followed by iron, a bit of char, all bolted to a solid spine of acid and prominent powdery tannins. Will clearly improve for the short to medium term but it is already drinking very nicely. Excellent QPR.
Weekly tasting group RWP #335; Some random wines (@ My place): Red and dark berries as well as herbs and spices in the bouquet. On the palate the syrah is most up front now, good red and dark berries, spiciness, fresh acidity and supple tannin. Will improve with some years of cellaring. 89+ for now.
Cherries, dark berries, garrigue, firm acidity and tannin. Full bodied. Firm wine which will improve with ageing. Can probably last more than a decade. For today 89 points, but with upwards potential of at least 2 points. Next bottle not before 2021.

Can't find notes. Drank over 2 nights. Tight on night 1, much better on night 2 - classic Rhone nose/ palate - blackberry, garrigue, black cherry - this is very young still despite being a CDR. Decant for a few hours if drinking now. 91+/-

Young and coiled. Drank over 2 nights; dumb and backwards first night. Last glass on second night opened up to classic CdP notes of dark fruit, garrigue, and pepper for now. Hold.

90 minute decant. Very young, and almost entirely primary, but it shows a beautiful purity of ripe fruit throughout. Blackberry and boysenberry commingle, with faint background notes of black pepper, cassis and tar. There's some stuffing underneath the surface that's going to pop in the near future. Give it a year or two, and this will be outstanding.
A nice Cotes Du Rhône, but not a 90+ wine as some indicated here. A little air needed for it to gain balance. Alcohol is still lurking in the background, therefore it is more of a food fine. 13.5% and it tastes lighter than most of the heavier CdP cousins. I would recommend Tomato and vinegar based dishes as a paring.
Reductive nose on opening, but really opened up with 3 hours in the decanter. Deep crimson appearance, high alcohol. Stewed fruit, spice, dried herbs on the nose. Medium bodied, medium plus acid, medium tannins. On the palate, generous ripe red fruit, herbs, minerals. Incredibly fresh and delicious, really long finish. Really punches above its weight. Still very young, drink in 5-10 years.
Young, vibrant purple plum colour. Very fresh and light fruity nose. Mostly purple berry fruit. Not as powerful as I would have expected from this lauded vintage. More air coaxes out some garrigue and floral notes and a hint of charcoal. Medium bodied. Good balance of fruit and acid. Quite a bit of sandy tannins on the finish and a slight afterburn of alcoholic heat. The flavours are very primary and once again in that purple berry range and also lots of those garriguey notes. Last glass was the best. Decant for at least an hour if drinking soon. I think this will put on some weight in the next few years and will warrant a higher score, but for now this is a solid 91 pointer.

Floral, red fruit, a bit of minerality. Very primary at the moment, and therefore quite fruit forward. Still, the pieces are all in place. I'll give a 90 today, but look forward to revisiting over the next decade or so.

A spectacular CdR, clean, generous, balanced, and seductive! Suave attack, expansive middle, gritty back, long finish. There are also strong floral, spice, and botanical essences throughout. Having recently tasted the 2015 vintage, which features Mourvedre, this smells and tastes like a rounded and harmonious blend. It would likely hold its own in a flight of quality CdP. It has the substance to age for at least a decade. Exceptional QPR!

I’m in agreement with many. This puts low end CdPs to shame. Violets and raspberries and spices and plums, and stones. Silky smooth, very balanced. Going to seek out more!
Really enjoyed this wine. Very well balanced dark red fruits with very pleasant and well balanced tannins. So much more than the usual Cotes du Rhone. I bought a few bottle soft this. I think this one's worth hanging onto for a little while. Great QPR buy it if you find it.

Another odd 2016 southern rhone. Super ripe fruit, but not drinking yet IMO. Seems unbalanced, presumably because it's so young. Maybe some bottle time will bring it around.

Popped, poured. Probably the most complex, interesting and even profound Cotes du Rhône I have ever tasted, making this an absolute train robbery. Dark purple-ruby with red tears. Jammy raspberries and kirsch dominate the nose. Full fruit in the mouth, tannins abundant but well-integrated, anise and earth, Mourvèdre in evidence, this is more than a little reminiscent of Beaucastel. Absolutely a buy-a-case wine. 5-13–16-9: 93/100.
This has a goregeous opulence, with a welcomed fine acidity. Warm fig, plum, braised meat, cranberry, rock quarry and flower shop. A polished entry, with velvety tannnins, a plush middle and a long ending. Decant or wait a year, and watch for more than a decade. Truly serious and very enjoyable. Drink 2020 - 2032.
Ruby. Medium weight but juicy. Clean blueberry fruit and nice savory flavors with strong back end acidity and tannins. Truly a baby Beaucastel. Very good.

The longer it was opened, the better it got. Fruit laden with flavors of raisins and berries. Moderately long finish. Probably would be better with another two or three years in the bottle.

Highly structured and acidic, fruit hiding behind the structure. Not very expressive and quite angular at this stage. I’ve really enjoyed this bottling over the years, but this is the least expressive young example I’ve tried. Give this some time to soften. Should improve.

Needs 5-6 hrs aeration plus. Has reserved aromas of plums, raspberries, cherries, spice. Its medium to full bodied textured and stylish palate has near outstanding concentration, layers of fruit and spice and superb length. 14.5%. Could be laid down 5-10 years but is delicious now. Great QPR too at under 20 Euros.

OMG I thought this wine was delicious. I would describe the experience much as Jeff Leve did. Hard to believe I spent less than $25 a bottle for this wine. I'm definitely going back for more. You other folks who rated it 85 and 89, and described it harsh and lacking character, or thin and unexpressive -- could we possibly have been tasting the same wine? Either there's major bottle variation, or damage in shipping or storage, or people's palates are just drastically different. Not that I want to change your minds: more 2016 Coudoulet for me!
I respect Jeff greatly but as of today this is no way a 94 pt wine, maybe in time but not today. I found it thin and not very expressive, even with air.

I am quite sure this is the best Coudoulet de Beaucastel ever produced. It will give many, more expensive Chateauneuf du Pape's a run for the money with its layers of earthy, spicy, kirsch, garrigue and thyme, silky, inviting textures and blast of wild cherry in the finish.

Fantastic wine with great QPR. It's called "baby" Beaucastel, because most people can't afford their $90 or more ChdP. I'm curious why Spain didn't "invented" this concept? Rhetorical question. France is France. You don't urge with France about their wines 🙂
Let's go to the business.

Confirmation of my note of June 2020. It's a good, very approachable wine, drinking well now, harmonious and well-balanced (albeit 14.5% alcohol). Not hugely complex, though. Drink now or over the next few years: no need to wait, but no hurry either.

Tasted over two days.

Bouche : l’attaque est dotée d’un très beau toucher de bouche. La bouche est souple, élégante ; belle pureté en ligne avec ce grand millésime qu’est 2016 en Rhône Sud.

Note révisée à 90++?
A revoir dans le temps. Sera intéressant.
Si je devais le servir à court terme, je lui donnerais certainement un 2-3 heures de carafe.

Hold.

Solid bottle of wine. Drink or hold. Good weight for a Cotes du Rhone. Some grip on the mid palate was not unpleasant and tells me these will age.

Really enjoyed this wine. Very well balanced dark red fruits with very pleasant and well balanced tannins. So much more than the usual Cotes du Rhone. I bought a few bottle soft this. I think this one's worth hanging onto for a little while. Great QPR buy it if you find it.

This seems much more Beaucastel like then I've seen in previous vintages. More meaty mourvedre instead of savory and red fruited Grenache.
