  • Nice Dujac Morey, a little light and not much of a nose. Probably a year past its prime.

  • Opened for another test drive and to similar experience as the first about a year ago. Bright crunchy ripe stemmy strawberries. Very silky and plush and ripe in an understated way, thought this spoke the vintage rather well. This alongside the Ramonet rouge were absolutely delicious.

  • Same bottle as Melvin. Great from the get-go. Somehow the slightly tired Clair got more attention in this flight but I thought this was showing beautiful balance and very good weight from the first pour. Was thinking lesser GC from 2012 given the weight, or perhaps a slightly younger 1er from a top producer, perhaps 2017. Fruit more in the dark spectrum. Aromatics on the mid palate a bit muted still - upside from here.

  • Wines from regions starting with B: Wonderful, lifted nose with delicate, sweet red fruit so went for 2015 Chambolle. Lovely balance to this wine, similar to the 08 CDLR I tried last month but was so red-fruited that I wasn’t in MSD territory at all. No signs of stems or blue fruit. Obviously still young and a long way to go but superb already.

  • From the straight off it displayed what I would call new world ish characters. Very intense, very big and very concentrated yet from the scent to the palate it exhibited a fine balance.

We anticipated some time might be needed but it was open for business from the get go guess with that it masked the usual MSD but the fruits did come thru later of candied cherry much later to do the terroir some justice.

Overall, can still age more to allow more of the finesse to come thru!

  • When PnP, the red fruit notes are very expressive, perhaps too rich and liquer-like for a burgundy. With air, the fruity notes become more harmonised and the MSD signature notes (candied cherry / dr. pepper) start to reveal themselves in the background. What an effort for a MSD 1er cru.

  • Opened for a couple hours. Sentual and generous nose, a bit brambly at first, not particularly complex or top tier but still satisfying and expressive. Palate is medium full and fairly long. There’s a delicious sweetness that permeates the whole wine. It’s got a lot of good parts but doesn’t wow. Young of course with upside. Quite good overall. 92/93

  • Ratchets up seriousness from village, as well as mouthfeel, complexity and length. I'd say similar amounts of pleasure from both wines however. 1er is mostly Ruchots and Sorbes, with former likely separated out from 2022/2023 with new chai.

  • Quarantine; 3/12/2020-5/29/2020 (Chicago, IL): Virtual tasting with Jeremy and Diana. This has lost a lot of the 2016 charm, at least right on opening. There is a sense of the red fruit here as well as bright acidity, but there's also a slightly darker complexion from oak spice while the stem-inflected lift doesn't seem to be out in full force. Then with air, more of the fruit starts to emerge and you get more expressiveness, but overall this wine is still a fairly large-scaled example that at this point needs a few years to come around again. If I got my information correct, this is a blend of 1/3 ha Ruchots, 1/5 ha Millandes, 1/12 ha Charrieres, and a tiny bit of Clos Sorbe.

  • Very, very tight on opening. Tasted and then decanted at the restaurant and sat for about an hour before being poured. Continued to get better in the glass with the last sips being the best.

Showing off mostly what it will be rather than what it is at this point. Mid toned, darker fruits on the nose and palate, with an undercurrent of wildness that reminds a bit more of Gevrey than Morey. A bit more fleshy material began to show after a couple hours open and this is just past medium intensity, but a very elegant poised wine clearly lies under its youthfulness. I would leave this alone for quite some time.

  • SLDS April 2019: Floral, black berries, redcurrant, steel and spice. Cool fruit profile upfront and shows restraint and cut through. Drinks really well already in its youth, with good precision.

  • A very pretty nose of violets, roses and red fruits. It has good mid-palate richness and excellent length.
