  • Glassware: Grassl Cru
Prep: Decant an hour before first sip

I opened a 2015 of this a few weeks ago which was flat and uninteresting. This on the other hand was very pleasant. Lightly stewed strawberry, raspberry, black cherry, purple flowers, and a nice core of savory herbs and stony minerality. Nice density on the palate, with a fine tannic grip. Though this is 13% ABV there is a little heat on the back end. Would drink now, with food, while the fruit is still there.

  • Ok. Expected more of something. Maybe it’s just shut down?

  • Similar to my previous note. Slightly improved nose on this bottle a few years later, but still muted - more savory than fruity. Juice itself remains sublime. Lovely, but still feels a bit unfinished without that pop in your nose.

  • Holding nicely
with some violet floral aromatics, dark fruit, medium tannins , savory earth and good length. I will make every attempt to save my last bottles of Ahurani for a comparison tasting with Kelley’s Momtazi and Maresh cuvee’s from ‘16 and ‘15
    Such elegant wines she conjures.

  • Mid weight, mix of red and blue fruits along with some savory herbs and damp earth. Well balanced, years ahead of it.

  • Red florals, clay, mushroom, cranberry, pencil lead on the nose. Decent grip, very nice depth of flavor with red fruits also coming to the fore and a subtle spice coming through on the moderately persistent finish. An herbal note too perhaps? This was glass pour via Pungo, so didn't really have time to open up.

  • Really elegant Pinot noir from KFW. Brighter red fruits. Slight hint of bubblegum and spice. Enjoyable but I somehow felt disappointed by the near total lack of a nose on this. Maybe the ‘16s are in a dumb stage right now? I still love this producer. I’ll hold on the next bottle fir a few years.

  • Translucent ruby. Not much on the nose at all - even a couple of hours after opening - but the palate is a lovely, subtle interweaving of cranberry and cherry fruit. Perfectly judged acidity, some very fine tannins, and a long fresh - mineral? - finish. I might score it higher if it had a more attractive bouquet - or any enticing aroma at all. I suppose I am also slightly vexed at its price - nearly £40 in the UK - which is pretty steep for a wine that is very good rather than fantastic. 13%, cork.

  • Great floral nose. Very bright red fruits cherry, strawberry with a delicious complexity. A fantastic wine for the price.

  • Bright strawberry and full bodied, mild herbal finish, perfect tannins. Drinks well above its price point. Enjoy now and for several years.

  • The nose here was dominated by more non-fruit elements vs. the 2016 Mirabai tasted alongside. There's a bit of youthful fresh paint, but also an interesting toasted grainy note that reminds me of old vine gamay and also a touch of Juge, if less toasted kasha. The fruit is darker toned compared to the Mirabai but this also shows more depth currently with a strikingly savory richness throughout. Not quite brown spice but in that family. I loved this. With air this still shows a slightly liqueur quality compared to the Mirabai, but it's still very fine.

  • The Ahurani was brighter and more tense then the Mirabia with strawberry, sweet herbs, lifting floral tones and minerals. It was zesty on the palate, showing saline-infused cherry, herbs and hints of spice. The finish was remarkably fresh with lasting florals and hints of red licorice. The Ahurani represents amazing value for what's in the bottle.
