  • Heavy on the tar and roses. Light on the finesse.

  • Dark fruit and floral. Great aromatics and power of the palate. Not as detailed as other vintages

  • I have something about Burlotto, I considered them as the best from Barolo, sadly this wine was not in that league, too tannic and not as delicious as it used to be !
I have lost my love for Barolo.

  • Drunk at a BYO dinner, with Brasato al Barolo.

This bottle was still a bit tight I think, or perhaps in a tunnel phase, but it was still enjoyable. A croquant fruit, blue and red, with licorice and cough syrup but mainly with a cool and clean feeling. Drunk next to Flavio Roddolo Barolo Ravera 2009, these wines are night and day but both have their place in my appreciation. The Roddolo was clearly on point maturity wise, this Burlotto I would try resting for at least 3 or even 5 years before trying again. Only have the one more though...

  • Blind. Identifiably Barolo, sweetness from vintage, dark fruited, floral, very good weight. 93

  • A decant 60 min. and then ready to go, lovely roses on the nose, some spice, taste is a bit tannic, but fresh and charming, needs more years to be balanced, still have some bottles in my Barolo safe prices are hitting the sky!

  • Nose: reticent but not fully closed. Strawberry, green strawberry, sour cherry, dusting of cedar. No strawberry pie (even a waft) that you find on the monvigliero.

Palate: Medium ripe strawberry. Notes of green strawberry, cherry, savory cranberry, green stems, slight cedar.

Structure: gentle grippy tannins well outlasted by juicy red fruit.

Juicy but elegant, with a fine drying tannin.
Weak 93 today, but stronger 93 in time. A more seamless /better wine than the Monvigliero this vintage.

  • Drank it over two days.
First day was a wow, elegant, red fruits, good tannin and modest tar. The Burlotto you would expect.
Second day - the wine seems just totally close down. Didn’t got much from the nose, and showed a lot more oak on the palate.

  • Tried it on day two. Spice, oak, herbs and violet on the nose and palate. Not showing what I expected tonight. Agree with Howardnz that the wine is clunky, not coming together yet.

  • 2018 Visit to GB Burlotto with Fabio (Verduno): As earlier, Fabio noted the higher proportion of sand in the soil here, as compared with the “white soil” of Monvigliero. From a 0.7 ha vineyard. Less aromatically thrilling than the Monvigliero, more closed. Black fruit, dark florals, earth and black spices. On palate, more separate component parts yet to come together. Quite fresh but a little clunky. Someone described the Cannubi as a “light expression of heavy Barolo fruit”, which seemed to capture it. Presently hard to assess at the time of tasting. It needs time. Hold for 8-10+ years.

  • I haven't written a lot of tasting notes lately but felt compelled to after enjoying this bottle. A wine of pedigree, character and an unforced nature that evolved slowly and gracefully over the course of a few hours; picking up balance. I can barely remember the last time I simply enjoyed a bottle so much.

The highlight was the aromatic profile. I couldn't stop smelling it. A truly beautiful and unforced expression. The palate was a little more unforgiving and took a solid hour to open. Decant for 1-2 hours if enjoying now; otherwise hold for 4-6 more years.

  • A really feminine expression of Cannubi, almost certainly due to the vintage, and while it retains Burlotto's great touch along with terrific aromatics and elegance, there was some greenness and less -than-typical concentration (some would call it "light") that detracts. While it's a very good bottle of Barolo, the Burlotto hype and exorbitant retail price increases over the past two vintages make this a pass. Retailers jacking up to $200 for the Monvigliero and over $100 for this are delusional. Vajra, Chiara Boschis, Grasso, Cavallotto, Brovia are all good if not better options at lower price points.

  • Quite easy to drink tonight with some air with good succulence and acidity. It’s balanced by plenty of classic dark cherry fruit along with notes of tree bark, tar and roses. I like the chalky mineral grip on the finish. Lighter-bodied and very fine and clearly should improve with mid-term aging. 92+

  • Holiday at Royal Mail Hotel, Dunkeld; 7/24/2018-7/25/2018 (Royal Mail Hotel, Dunkeld): red plum, sweet spice, pretty; slight floral, rose petal and toasted tobacco. On the palate it's juicy toasty with plums, tannins are slightly chalky but exceedingly lightweight. This is utterly approachable for a Barolo.

  • With Fabio

Darker, muscular, and more structured than the Monvigliero. A little meaty almost. Tar, violets and roses. Lovely deep nose, a rarity in my limited experience with '14s. Deep on th palate with sap, power and structure, almost brooding, but retaining excellent balance. A tiny bit of green tannins on the back end, but i think I am looking for it this year, and I suspect I would not have given it any thought any other year. I think this is something that will turn into something quite special in the cellar. Aside from the Monfortino and Conterno's Ceretta, the most structured while maintaining balance wine I tried from '14. Impressive.

Greier akkurat 93 poeng.
