Anton’s Wine Tasting Notes Winery: Feudi di San Gregario Varietal: Aglianico Area/Appellation: Italy, Campania, Irpinia. Vintage: 2016 Price: $38 Closeout shelf In a Kansas retail liquor store. Color:opaque dark ruby rim from above. Legs: medium to fast Nose: bacon fat, dried meats, bramble, underbrush, dried cranberries, Palate: raspberry, cranberry, leather, smoke, black licorice Finish: leather, ash, tar, coffee grinds framing dried cranberries and dried raspberries and more black licorice notes. Comments: A modern style Aglianico that is now showing lots pf secondary characteristics. Interestingly enough Campania had bitter frost and flooding rains in 2016 which reduced yields by as much as 20%. Pairing Suggestions: oxtail, osso bucco, lamb shank from the local le monde cafe, barbecue ribs from any bbq place with a smoky style, Score in terms of Vintage: 88 Score for the Wine: 88 Value for the Money: Good Date Tasted: 05/16/2021 Tasted by: ACK

DWO - Włochy (On-line): Dark colour, intensive nose a bit smokiness and earthiness. Nice structure, surprisingly nicely drinking. Medium finish with a bit of peppery. Dry.

Color: deep ruby Nose: so interesting. Something lactic, ripe cherry and raspberry, plum, tobacco leaf and iron leaving a bloody impression. Some roses? And earth Palate: more muted than other aglianicos, may be because I had a 2016. Tannins are fine, acidity medium-high, body medium-full. Bloody and minerals, tomato concentrate, same fruit as the nose Finish: medium
Quite pleasant, more delicate than expected for an aglianico (My nuclear option usually), and lots of bloody notes. Less depth than I get from aglianico and confusingly I can't get the pepper note

This is an old favorite, and is still oh so delicious. Lots going on, unapologetically modern, but done well. Lots of baking spices. Ripe red and black fruits. There is nothing shy about this. Neat, fun wine. Will age easily.

Medium(+) ruby-purple, fast moving legs @13.5% abv. Herbaceous aromas, ash, leather, fall forest floor. Dry, high acidity, medium tannin, medium-medium(+) alcohol and medium(+) body. Palate of cherry, red berry, pepper, and mineral notes Good lengh with taut acidity in gripping finish. Rustic at its core, acidity is quite harsh. Wine screams for food.

Not an evening sipper, this one. It needs food! Fruitiness is mixed with scorched earth and ash when I open the bottle. The black fruit that I taste is partly greenish unripe and is certainly not overwhelming in depth. Bitterness is coming through towards the end leading to a cleansing and very dry finish, accompanied by spicy pepper. Definitely a good companion for salty, strong cheeses. Feta and soft, salty goats cheese were good partners to this uncomplicated, vibrant red southern Italian.

We were going to pick something else, but the waiter suggested this, the least expensive red on the list. Really nice with our pizza. Fruity, with tannins, not too sweet. Would reorder.
