Second bottle. First one was PnP and suffered from heavy brett. The second bottle sat for a multi-hour decant and the nose improved. It was best on the second day when the barnyard funk was mostly gone and the wine opened up - very nice on the palate with tertiary leather and earth notes, medium body and a fresh, round, lingering finish.

Single decant. Ruby with no apparent bricking. Intense nose of rose petal, forest floor, incense. Great balance of fruit (amazingly prominent after 26 years), acidity and tannins. Would have rated higher had the finish been longer. Drinking great now, but has plenty of life left. Drink or hold.

Pnp. It's magnificent. It's got the dusty cdp-ish nose that I love. Elegant. Really elegant and interesting. Complex. Just beautiful. It held up consistently over 2 hours. A beautiful wine. The glass made a difference with this

Opened night before, it was undrinkable when popped. But by dinner Saturday it had opened up into wonderfully complex old school earthy Bordeaux. Poured into four glasses and remainder into decanter before guests arrived.

Much better than expected, as some of these left bank 1995s currently lack a bit of charm found in a vintage like 1996. There's still some rusticity, with leather, cigar box, and dry earth. But at the forefront is a nice core of dark fruits. The wine showed really good complexity and a smooth, even finish with excellent length. I wish I had more of this, as I wonder if it will be even better in a few years.

A beautiful and savory textbook St Julien. There color is ruby red with some orange hues on the rim. The nose is fully mature and tertiary but still vibrant. The palate is smooth and resolved. Drink up.

Outstanding! Garnet color, medium to full body, medium finish. Still lots of tannins in this wine. Has many more years. Smooth, silk like. Red and blackberries with slight oak finish.

Decanted thru Vinturi and returned to bottle & sealed to take to dinner. Did not open again for 20 hours, when it was bright fruit, leather, cigar box on the nose and very smooth on the palate, showing surprisingly nice fruit on the palate. A good QPR at $45 from a private cellar.

Opened and aired in decanter for 3hrs before drinking with Prime Rib Roast for Christmas.
A constantly evolving wine over the course of 4hrs, a wine of class, finesse and elegance with many phases of development from sour red cherries, mushroom, old cupboard odours, cigar box, cedar to denser black fruits with vanilla and spices.
See prior notes for details.

2 hours bottle breath. Quite impressive and complex nose with massive aroma of smoke, cigar box, leather, meat, woods and some fruits. Palate is less impressive. Medium body with balanced tannin and acidity. Quite elegant.

Dark Garnet, no browning on the edges. Quite a vigorous aroma of cigar box, cedar, mushroom, old cupboards smell and some red cherries and red currants.
The fruit is diminished of red cherries and other red fruits with more obvious old cedar wood characters dominating the palate. There are very fine dusty tannins still present (which I like) and some acid giving this wine some complexity and freshness. Medium bodied in structure and very elegant, clean and focused in the mouth. The taste lingers on after the last drop is swallowed.
After an hour, this has developed a weightier concentration of fruit on the palate with a second pour.
*** Definitely a different slightly bigger wine but med-full bodied after 6 hrs, the tannins are not so pronounced but there and unobtrusive, the fruit has emerged and there is a definite sweetness in the fruit more black fruits than reds, but just so well balanced, elegant and lithe. *** If you like aged or aging Bordeaux this bottle has entered that window, not all the fruit has disappeared but it is taken over by the secondary and tertiary characters.

At P&P from the cellar, a little subdued and astringent on the palate, but after some air/warming up at room temp for 30 minutes, quite pleasing on the nose, with leather, bright fruits, a little damp woods/cedar. Very nice on the palate, with surprisingly young fruit and a velvety mouth feel. After a day under Argon, fruit was more prominent on the nose and palate and this was a solid 92!

curious wine; well made, leathery, quite developed - time to drink up. But held on quite well to second day, including the dark red berried fruits, tobacco, sweet developed cassis and cigar box notes. No concentration to hold on, but quite a respectable claret.

Cork is intact but a bit porous. Colour is dark red with warm brick colored rims. The first whiff is barnyard and other very rustic aromas. After a while it blows off to some extent. Underneath is black currant and a persistent dry cherry flavor, which I really like. Some chocolate, licorice, but only as additional, more ethereal, dimensions. The balance is ok, although the edge of acidity is smoothened out by food. Perhaps I feel the wine is thin on the midpalate and finish. Overall an interesting wine, which had the complexities of age, and is not over the hill completely, but should be drunk fairly soon, I feel.

Color: Dark cherry with 2 cm. ruby rim (last .5 cm is brick colored). Bouquet: A fuller barnyard than the '82 Poyferre. More solid excrement than urine type of barnyard. Flavor: Tannic rush, black currant, earthy notes with some bitter chocolate. Long 40+ second finish with licorice and wood flavors. Overall: Gripping tannins though the fruit can stand up to them. Still young and not quite yet integrated. 91+

undecanted. first, smokey. fruity. young and tannic. minty. oak. lush and elegant with good length. good structure. not bad at all. '04 seems to be a pretty forward year.
Medium/deep ruby, medium pale ruby rim. Immediately open nose with nice pure cassis fruit, plenty of cedary development, hints of tobacco and spice - classic left bank claret nose in fact, with decent perfume and just a hint of coffee. Medium bodied on the palate with attractive, firm acidity and ripe, but still chewy tannins. Dark, deep and spicy with plenty of depth and a lovely, good length savoury, tobaccoey finish. Lovely wine, in fact one of the best wines I've had from what I generally find to be a somewhat over-rated left bank vintage. Should improve over the next 5-7 years and drink for several more years after that.

Cedar, sweet cherry fruit, blackberry leaf, and spring flowers waft from the glass. The wine has nice texture and body, full but delicate, and silky. Sappy dark fruit, tar, papaya milk (my wife's descriptor), autumn leaves, and maybe a hint of mushrooms are tasted, then a long, smooth finish. Popped and poured, the wine showed nicely from the start, but evolved nicely, more fruit and complexity showing with time. I think this wine is mature and possibly at it's peak. Drink up!
