No detectable carbonation in this bottle. Somewhat less reduced than the last, too. Producer style is quite evident even without the more exaggerated hallmarks.

The tannins are smooth and all nicely integrated, making it surprisingly approachable for its age. The fruity aroma is charming, although it could use a bit more oomph to really grab your attention. On the palate, the different components don't quite come together seamlessly, but it's still enjoyable to sip on. Give it a few more years in the cellar, and this wine is bound to level up. With some extra time to age, it'll become even more fantastic, with flavors blending together.

This is still a baby but give it a few hours and it will reveal its clear cranberry, cherry, herbs, and coffee. It stood out in a lineup of comparable red burgs but didn't absolutely wow me. I'm going to leave my last bottle in offsite for as long as I can.

PnP'ed. This was almost immediately (with a bit of swirling/air) inviting with the very attractive bouquet showing notes of raspberry, cherries & a bit of reduction that made it all the more engaging. Red-fruited & pure with a satiny texture, this got better & better through the evening with more air. Delicious!

My bottle seems to have differed from recent tasters - tightly wound, structured, and not giving much until a good day after opening… if I had another I’d wait 3+ years, right now it’s dominated by slightly woody tannins and a streak of tart acidity

This was lighter on the initial pour than I expected. More 2017 than Fourrier if that makes sense. I kept most of the bottle until day #2 and it was better from a textural (tannins relax) and concentration (gained weight) standpoint. This is charming and red fruited, with some rhubarb and pomegranate notes. Well integrated on day #2 with some savory, baritone notes to underpin the fruit. I think this is drinking exactly as it should. And if they weren't >$100, I'd call it a cellar defender. A wine that is drinking well now and stands to gain for a few more years. But much lighter in body than 15 or 18.

This was very savory with a wall of structure and no fruit to speak of on initial opening. Gave it 3 hours of slow oxygen followed by a 45 minute decant and it really blossomed, but I was worried there for a moment. I'd assume the previous note made the mistake of pop and pour, and this seriously needed air. Super light on it’s feet, fine boned structure, red fruit and tons of savory spice on the finish. This wine is in a lovely place, but it needs some time to get going.

Poured into Zalto universals and let breathe while making black truffle and chicken dinner. Animale and sous-bois nose at first. Orange rind, cherry, mint, and chocolate palate. At its best the finish had waves and lasted a good 15 seconds. After an hour the fruit receded with cinnamon and hints of aniseed. Much more than a humble villages if not as breathtaking as the Clos St Jacques (LOTB: 94-95 pts for the ‘14). Seems young drink now with air or hold, 92-93/100.

Super floral with alpine blueberries on the nose. The blueberries are the tell of a Fourrier wine and it always sucks me in. The more I drink these wines the more I fall in love. Light, ethereal and juicy red fruit backed up by Gevrey spice. Concentrated but light. This wine is an oxymoron. Pure elegance. Everything I want from red Burgundy.

Coravin pour. Wonderful almost carbonic red fruit at the start, but after half an hour to an hour of air it’s fully open with a beautiful spicy nose that reminds me of dried mint and violets. I can only imagine how good this will be in a few years.

This is a really pretty, red-fruited and delicate wine that is a dead-ringer for a $40 Oregon Pinot Noir. If that's what this was, I'd be pleased. But it's not. It's a near-$100 bottle of Gevrey Chambertin. And there is just not the stuffing or structure to justify that kind of price point.

A lovely wine in a youthful way but agree with some comments here that it feels a bit "lite". That's not necessarily a bad thing for a Burgundy for me. Red fruits, has the Fourrier fizziness from unresolved CO2 in its youth which is best dealt with a quick double decant which is when you actually can hear the wine "sparkle". Gone through 5 of my 6 pack over the last months as easy home quaffer and it does a very good job at that. However in context of other lower level 17s it's not totally convincing (felt like Cathiard 17 Bourgogne was better even, Hudelot Noellat Bourgogne and Charmes on same level and better respectively) and it just misses bit of ooomph.

Very translucent and delicate in appearance, this provided a lovely, bright, herbal expression of Pinot on the nose, but on the palate it just didn't deliver - neither before nor after a 'Fourrier shake' (although that improved things slightly), and neither soon after popping the cork nor five hours later; the finish reminded me of a slightly sourer version of the M&S premixed mulled wine I drank at dusk on NYE. Beguiling nose of violets and dark cherries. The palate is brighter than the nose would imply, with a broader red-fruited profile, a touch of menthol, and plenty of acidity. There is an iron, rustic element on the finish that reminds you this is Gevrey, and moderate acidity. With air the fruit turns a bit sweeter and spicier to better match the acid. This is classic Fourrier and absolutely delicious. Look forward to revisiting this with some bottle age.

This is delicious from the off. Decanted, given the obligatory shake and poured a glass. Quite a lot of fruit on the nose and I was expecting this to taste quite tannic but it doesn’t. Deep ruby, a little cherry towards the core. Bright and red fruited, led by strawberry. Sweet, beguiling and very attractive. The fruit nicely balanced by good acidity leaving this sweet and fresh and moreish. This is currently in a lovely place, though perhaps a tiny bit darker than a bottle a couple of months ago. Significantly redder fruited and lighter framed than the en Echezeaux currently. Holds well over four hours. Lovely. ****

The joyous fruit nicely balanced by good acidity leaving this sweet and fresh. Very moreish. This is currently in a lovely place. Reminds me of the 07, and the 11 with eight or nine years of age on it. This does exactly what you’d expect from the label. Maybe not as serious as the 16 but pure unallayed pleasure. **** The remains of the bottle show similarly the next evening, The fruit perhaps just a fraction of a shade darker.

Dinner at Tonny's (Tonny Restaurant): So very enjoyable - this was a brilliant village. This had a pretty nose of lifted blueberry aromas laced with a bit of spice, bramble and mineral. A bit of sweet, preserved luo han fruit and a kiss of florals in there as well. Just lovely. The palate was clearly youthful, but so delicious, with a more open, red fruited expression - red cherries and berries I thought, and a little touch of mineral, this wrapped in a robe of silken tannins and juicy acidity. So drinkable and delicious even now, with a solid, almost 1er Cru intensity wed to a beautiful purity that just rang all the way into a long spicy finish, with just a twist of green herb in there. Bravo. So delicious now. Not sure how long this will age, but I would just whack these by the bottle at the moment - this was such a joy; one of the best young Burgundy village wines I have had in awhile.

On the palate, zippy acidity but quite light tannin. Also very fresh on the palate. Crushed strawberries and fresh cream (tastes like Eton mess). Vanilla bean. But also a deeper old world aspect, with fall foliage, petrichor and sous-bois. This is really enjoyable now. I can see it aging for a few years, but I can't imagine more then a decade. Love to be proven wrong though.

Simple, but nicely in balance. More California than Burgundy in this vintage, lovely red fruit, good acidity, light tannins. Very pleasant bottle, should drink well young, was hoping for a bit more panache from this producer and this cuvee.

Light ruby. Cool green aromas. Light weight, high acidity, a thin veneer of soil, and very little evidence of the usual Fourrier red fruit and texture. Honestly, one of the most disappointing vintages of this cuvée I can recall extending back to the 2007 vintage.
Quite dark, smoky, spicy on the nose. On the palate fairly serious with good concentration of fruit, well integrated acidity and grippy tannins. Vibrant, spicy finish. Quite long. Impressive. 90-91+

PNP.
Lacked the depth that I traditionally find with this bottling. Still correct but hopefully with some years in bottle adds more.

Simple, but nicely in balance. More California than Burgundy in this vintage, lovely red fruit, good acidity, light tannins. Very pleasant bottle, should drink well young, was hoping for a bit more panache from this producer and this cuvee.

Nice Red berry fruit, cherry, musk, violet, and oriental spices. Medium bodied, concentrated red fruits, elegant acidity, fine tannins. Concentrated, but balanced. Much better than 2016. Enjoyable now with some air, but needs time.

Light ruby. Cool green aromas. Light weight, high acidity, a thin veneer of soil, and very little evidence of the usual Fourrier red fruit and texture. Honestly, one of the most disappointing vintages of this cuvée I can recall extending back to the 2007 vintage.

Domaine Fourrier Cellar Visit and Tasting (Gevrey-Chambertin): Tasting at the domaine. Red and black cherry on the elegant, lighter side for Gevrey. Moderate weight, good length, good+ balance. Should drink very well young.

Quite dark, smoky, spicy on the nose. On the palate fairly serious with good concentration of fruit, well integrated acidity and grippy tannins. Vibrant, spicy finish. Quite long. Impressive. 90-91+

Domaine Fourrier Cellar Visit and Tasting (Day 9, Visit 4) (Gevrey-Chambertin): Barrel tasting at the domaine. Black and red cherry with good weight and structure, everything approaching harmony already. Will most likely drink well young. 88-90 point potential.
