One hour in the decanter, then back to the bottle. Black/purple. Very fragrant nose of violets and black fruits. Palate of black and blue fruit, black pepper and dried earth. Full bodied, mouthcoating richness. Superb balance. Finishes with grippy, slightly chalky tannin. Very good wine from Scott Hawley.

4hr decant. Fully opaque violet color. Nose of sagebrush, terragon, maple bacon, very hot, hint of purple flowers hidden behind the heat. Full-bodied palate, hot ripe blackberry, dessicated sagebrush, violets, prominent heat, blackberry but with an herbal forefront, slate. Reminds me of the smell of California coastal hillsides on a hot day during a drought.

a year later....had my Magnum with another Magnum Saxum Booker 2013 and 8 of us felt this was better. that says a lot as i love my Saxum, but this was sensational. nearly pop as the Saxum needed some time. glad i have more and reminded just how good some other Paso wines can be. Torrin should be proud

Wishing I hadn't opened it! The nose was really dominant, fragrant, fruity and powerful. Even after 2 hours the tannins still had a solid grip and while it was concentrated and delicious, with bacon fat and dark fruit, I'm sure it could have been more evolved with a bit more patience. I'll strive to do better with my 2016.

Decanted for four hours and consumed over two nights, night two being the better. Three years ago this wine received my only 100 point rating. I think I caught it at a magic moment because there was a 98 score around the same time. I have been reluctant to go back to it, but maybe I should have tried another right away. Either the wine or I are in a different place at the moment. Silky in texture, the bottle was hot on night one, but night two was rich and satisfying.

This wine was absolutely amazing. First two hours showed a lot of bacon fat on the nose and seemed like it was going to be a brooding big Syrah. But at hour three plus the wine really transformed into an elegant and balanced Syrah. Plenty of dark fruit but nice acidity and tannins really integrated well into the wine. I prefer primary fruit and this wine was absolutely in its prime for my taste. Up there as one of the top five wines I have had, all time.

3rd day notes. Pretty consistent with prior notes and holding up surprisingly well on the 3rd day. Full throttled heavyweight syrah with blend of smoke, charcoal, blackberries and light notes of beef jerky. About 92-93.

Just a great example of a tremendous Paso Syrah. Even though in a tremendous place now, another 2-3 years and I can see adding another point or two, but no hesitation popping another bottle at any time.

Opened at 55F (12.8C.) Nose of metal, blood, and a touch of menthol. Flavors of tobacco, pepper, and blackberries. Earthy but not herbaceous. Prominent tannins and alcohol. It is good now, and should be excellent, but it needs more time or a long decant.
Edit: No change on day two, so I’ll hold for at least a year before the next bottle.

Outstanding. Mint aromas exploded from the class along with licorice, blueberries and violets. I did a 90 minute decant and it was beautiful with smooth, ripe tannins. This has a long life ahead but is drinking great right now.

Brad Sarah, and I wanted to compare two excellent wines, the Akasha and a 2014 Lynmar quail hill pinot. Although very different, they were both excellent and are as good as a syrah and a california pinot can be. The Akasha is definitely my favorite Syrah and is very drinkable after a long decant. It continued to improve in the glass, with great mouthfeel, depth, dark fruit and great acidity.

Saw the awesome reviews and decided to pop one early. 2 hour decant (per others recommendation). 100% Syrah. Deep opaque burgundy red. Nose of smoke, nail polish, charcoal and blackberries. Big tangy meaty flavors on the entry. Long finish that smooths out as it lingers. High acidity and firm tannins but already well integrated. Packs a lot of punch. Really good now (tho not at the level I’ve seen in other reviews) but likely much better in a few years. About 93 now.

Wow! This is a great wine. I wish I had more. There is a sweetness to the nose that is intriguing, like jerky carmel. Blueberry, seared pork belly. Rich palate with great elevation, spiciness and finish. Bravo! Amazing Syrah.

As others have noted, this is a killer wine and is drinking great right now. I would move the drinking window up to the present as I'm not sure it will get any better, although I have 5 more bottles and certainly hope so. Has the smokey, meaty spice flavors that I like from a Syrah

Decanted for six hours, but the initial impression was muted compared to around two or three hours later. And then the magic. I have been fortunate to have experienced many of Paso's finest including most vintages of Torrin. This bottle, however, was simply startling in its effortless power, beguiling texture, depth of flavors, elegant push across the palate, and echoing finish. I cannot get it out of my mind. I have always been reluctant to give a wine a perfect score, but I just cannot find any shortcoming.
First time trying Torrin and for my palate, I don't think Syrah can get much better. Super deep dark purple and black in the glass, with wonderful notes of blackberry, blueberry, black licorice, wet stone and earthy notions. Not much of the typical smoked meat element. First sip and man oh man is this pure, deep, rich, outrageously layered and totally weightless at the same time. The mouthfeel is akin to the best Napa has to offer. The tannins are super fine and well integrated and the finish goes on forever. I tasted through the top houses in Paso over the weekend, had about 50 different wines and this stood out as the best of the bunch. Absolutely tremendous. 98+
