  • Complex, clearly declaring its DT nature.

Give time in the stems and let the temp rise a bit. Around 10C° it gives its best

Stems Riedel performance Champagne. Maybe next time I will use the Riedel Vinum Champagne.

  • Bought 3 years ago, this is my final bottle of the batch. 80/20 of Meunier and Pinot Noir, disgorged October 2019. Opened yesterday. Pours a light gold. Some oxidation here, a bruised apple and pear. With the fruit that is built into the wine, there is plenty of it that builds a plentiful texture. Underneath the apple and pear fruits are blood orange, iron and grapefruit. Lots of life remains in this disgorgement, with some edges from the citrus and brassy oxidation.

  • 2020 Release. Just what I like. Both mature and fresh as Someone here noted great champagne with great potential. Should get more next time I see an acceptable deal. Easily GC quality for me.

  • Hawaii Vacation; 8/29/2022-9/19/2022 (Lahaina, Maui): Deep yellow; aromatic, lemon curd; lemons, minerals, vibrant acidity, medium alcohol, food balanced mousse; medium finish. Not quite the length of the savart from a few days ago, but still very nice and satisfying. 89-90

  • Disgorged October 22, 2019.
A lovely step up from the L'Or d'Eugène (bearing in mind that this is the late disgorgement of that particular cuvée). Vibrant and surprisingly fresh for a primarily pinot meunier based champagne, I quite enjoyed this and would definitely buy it again.

  • 80% Pinot Meunier, 20% Pinot Noir. Dosage 0g/L, disgorged 20/03/2019 with Perpetuelle blend 2003-2014. Light golden; aromatic, apple, pear, brioche, lemon-lime; palate is medium bodied, nice mousse, apple and lemon-lime, balanced especially for zero dosage; medium finish. Very similar to my last note from a few months ago. Good value champagne. 90

  • Vinum Piedmont tasting: 2016 base. More lean and austere compared to the Les Vignes de Mon Village, rather natty but it grew on some of my friends present at the tasting.

  • 80% Pinot Meunier, 20% Pinot Noir. Dosage 0g/L, disgorged 20/03/2019 with Perpetuelle blend 2003-2014. Light golden; brioche, a bit yeasty, a bit lemon-lime; palate is richly textured, medium-plus body, yeasty, brioche, dry with high acid but not too sharp and with the roundness that comes with some malolactic fermentation or tertiary development; finish is medium to medium-plus length. Similar to my last bottle (same disgorgement) almost 2 years ago, overall a very nice champagne with some aged character, excellent value at ~$40, but lacks a bit of complexity to take it to the next level. Ready to enjoy now but will last a few years at least. 90

  • it was good, but I expected the late disgorgement to add more body and complexity.

  • Pale hay-colored core, with persistent petillance (fast-rising, small to medium bubbles). Lovely nose of apple. Medium-bodied, crisp acidity, apple and baked bread on the palate. Fairly long length. Very nice.

  • Weekend in Westport; 8/25/2021-8/29/2021 (Westport, CT): From a magnum. Only had a little bit. Decent bubbles. Not quite at the same level as others we were drinking that day, but also not at the same price point.

  • a lot of expectations but fallen short... Plain taste and little minerality, really disappointing. Light-bodied. Maybe this was a defective bottle but I do not think so. In a windy afternoon under the blades, maybe the last for this summer. PD agrees

  • This is Day 3 of the bottle being open, and the stopper has done a real nice job of preserving the CO2. This is another bottle of the October 2019 disgorgement. No dosage, 80/20 split of PM and PN. Cedric consistently gets great texture on this cuvee, and at a smashing price as I paid $40 US for the last batch of these. Of note, this is the late disgorged bottling, not the regular bottling labeled Eugene (which also continues to have some dosage added). While I like the d'Eugene bottling, for me the late disgorged ("Degorgement Tardif") bottling called L'Extra is the cuvee I prefer. This bottle is no different, with the level of concentration, texture and fruit depth just so good. Green apple, bright flavor of fruit rouges, with a lime note finish. Between this cuvee, as well as the Laherte Freres Brut Nature, I could just fill my cellar with both of these cuvees and it would be about all I need for daily Champagne drinkers.

  • This was good, but I felt a bit disappointed, as my expectations had been set high by previous reviews!
I did not find the same broad fruit spectrum others found, or the oxidative character and I thought the bubbles were a bit on the firm side.
That being said, overall quite good, nice length especially.

  • Killer on the nose, just kept going back in. Somewhat oxidative style, almost reminded me of a poutpourri with dried cherries as the heart of it. Palate was a bit sharp and somewhat less complex than I would have hoped but certainly tasted good. Probably better with food, as we drank this as an aperitif.

  • Deg. 2019 with zero dosage.

Stunning bouquet of orange zests, blood oranges, lime, green pears, chalk and yeast. Very small bubbles create a fine, elegant, creamy mousse, allowing the wine to expand and linger on the palate. Energetic, lively, very salty and with huge tension, yet focused and controlled. Incredible value. 17/20

  • Disgorged October 2019, no dosage, 80% PM and 20% PN. I had this bottle open for a few days before finishing it. The texture is generous yet it remains crisp. Green apple, zesty berry and a prickly finish with vibrant acidity. In the final glass, the wine took a brassier quality, with a touch of oxidation and the color a little darker than I remember. A beauty for 40 bucks, this is the late disgorged bottling, which to me is superior to the regular bottling.

  • Mirabelle plum, dried apricot, black cherry/kirschwasser, red apple, echinacea, bruised lemon rind, brioche crust, and roasted hazelnut flavors stylishly surrender themselves on the front end of the attack with a sense of rewarding complexity that immediately unfolds on the first sip. Elements of sophistication thoughtfully expand, with an elegant, almost stately cadence in the way the myriad of fruit is carried by the deliberate beads of effervescence. There is a nicely delineated carriage of intensity enabling the flavors to drive across the palate with thoughtful and systemic methodology. Not exceedingly punchy or powerful (which I appreciated, as sometimes that can come off as too aggressive and overwhelming), its energy is found more in its shrewdly timed persistence. A great combination of cerebral attentiveness and elevated piquancy. A fine example of BdN. Drink now and over the next 5+ years to best channel the vitality of its freshness. 95+ points.

  • 80% Pinot Meunier, 20% Pinot Noir. Dosage 0g/L, disgorged 20/03/2019 with Perpetuelle blend 2003-2014. Light golden; moderate intensity nose with slight brioche, lemon curd; palate is medium bodied, fresh medium-plus acidity, balanced elegant but also slightly rich mouthfeel, medium balanced acidity, a bit of tangy lime through the midpalate, some hints of age but also retains freshness; medium length finish. A very respectable champagne at this price point, with nice balance and drinkability and some aged character and not at all sharp despite zero dosage, but also lacks next level depth or complexity. 90

  • Bottled 2015, disgorged 2020. 50% from 2015 and 50% from 2003-2014 in perpetual fill up system. 50% from current year and rest from other years.

Excellent champagne - yeasty, nutty and still very fresh. Will probably push 93-94 in 5-7 years. But I dont think I can wait that long.

  • DG 03/2018
What a surprise when we opened this! Excellent price-quality rapport. Clear dominance of the meunier fruit with metallic notes, juicy red apples, cranberries, red cherries, pineapple juice, and melon; oaky presence from the vinification in fût, and nutty with hazelnuts and chestnuts; wafer cone, digestive biscuits, gingerbread, and warm spices such as clove and black pepper, and a kind of balsamic touch.
The solera style is noticeable in the complexity, much more than we expected, and slight oxidative notes on the finish with grilled meat. This wine is more generous than most in this price bracket, with a medium-high acidity, although there’s no need to hold it since it’s very enjoyable already.

  • Another good bottle. This is the late disgorged (degorgement tardif), which I prefer over the regular L'Extra, as the additional bottle time and also zero dosage is more to my liking. 80% Pinot Meunier and 20% Pinot Noir, from tbe cuvee perpetuelle that dates back to 2003. This bottle was disgorged in the Winter 2019. Lively, easy to drink now with saline, apple, ginger, some white pepper and brioche.....finishing on the 3rd day, the wine has lost nothing, and in fact some grapefruit has emerged into the wine. For 40 bucks for this cuvee, it's always in my cellar.

  • Killer stuff. Heady yeast nose, great body, rich but not opulent, depth and zing side by side. Fizzy finish. 27/03/2018 disgorgement.

  • Bone dry, rather earthy, with golden apple and mushroom notes, with a leesy underpinning. I’ve never had a late disgorgement with no dosage, so it’s a bit unique in that sense. But a good value and nice wine to cellar, with improvement to be made in bottle

  • Last had one of these at the end of 2018. So, after running into Cedric on a Zoom tasting event this week where he was the featured guest, figured it was time to do some more Mousse. Back label info on this reads like the bottle from Christmas 2018--same specs. Disgorged December 2017, 80% PM and 20% PN, with 1 gram of dosage, with this built in part from the solera that stretches back to 2003. Of note, as I think it's worth pointing out, this is the Degorgement Tardif, so this is extended lees time as opposed to the other Eugene bottling, which also has a higher dosage. I prefer the style of the l'Extra bottling, too. This bottle has a solid creamy texture, which smacks back against some of the bias that low dosage wines are austere. This is certainly not. The aromatics show a bread dough note, along with a fresh cut apple. The flavors remind me of the 2018 bottle, giving the black cherry note, raspberry and a creamy, citrus fruit note, like a fresh squeezed lime meeting grapefruit. The finish is bright (although I should note that the wine when first opened was dull so please let air work its magic). Finishes with a moderate grip of mineral. For $40 US, these wines are genius, made by a guy who is equally full of life, and the wines show it.

  • Tonight's bottle was from our buddy's cellar, but like my bottle from last evening, it was from Envoyer and had the same components/specs. Tonight's bottle seemed similar, but with one exception, and that was a higher presence of citrus/acidity that I noticed, akin to a grapefruit. Solid again.

  • Disgorged 12/2017, 80 PM / 20 PN, 1 g/l dosage. This bottle drinks solid with a distinct berry/black cherry quality, flinty nose and finish. Terrific, and for the 35-40 USD, such a great value......retasted following day, the wine is much more still now. Plusher and rounder, with good intensity. Stone fruit and berry. Delicious.

  • Disgorged 03/2018, 1 g/l and 80PM/ 20PN from a solera back to 2003. This bottle differs from the disgorge date from the bottle I had a few months ago at the domaine. Why this matters is that I wasn't as thrilled with the bottle from last night as I was with the May bottle. Last night's seemed a bit clunky, with mineral, light apple, maybe a little bit of a gamy note and really just got crushed by the Savart Expression we put next to it. I don't think the Savart made this Eugene bad, but what it did IMO is reveal the imbalance/youth in the bottle last night.

  • This showed like the recent bottle we tasted at the winery in Cuisles on our recent trip. Disgorged 6/2017, using the solera that dates back to 2003. 1 g/l dosage. Black cherry, lemon, a little bread dough and zesty with a light stoniness. The red fruit really comes through.
