Still very young, tight, a closed fist. The concentration of fruit is quite impressive, plenty of minerals here, spices & herbs. Some Spanish sweetness arrives with air, but needs food - bring in the neck of lamb, please.

Hail the dark master, very young and concentrated, this displays licorice, chocolate, black fruit, olives and minerals, all packed up very tightly and in a balanced way. It is too young, certainly, and question remains what this will eventually be. I have a couple of bottles left, and I shall wait for at least a couple of years before popping the next one.

Very dark. Bright brambly dark berry fruit, nicely integrated French oak. Hints of sherbet, lightly cedary. Lovely bright fruits, black cherry, blueberry, damson and cassis. The blueberry really distinguishes it. Silky attack followed by a long firm palate and superfine but big tannins. Aging gracefully, doesn't need any more complexity, still very well balanced and drinking beautifully.

Elevated intensity nose, clean and mid-development (still a bit primary). Turbulent and classically complex nose. Animal fur (suggesting Brettanomyces). Bruised apple skins and figs (suggesting acetaldehyde / slight oxidation), a combination of ripe black cherry, strawberry preserves, and dark plum and cassis (mostly black with some red fruits suggesting millerandage/variable ripening or a blend—in this case both a blend of 60% Grenache, which has variable ripening, and some cab, Carignan, Merlot, and Syrah, contributing dark fruits). Significant aging in new Oak which presents as baking spices, medium-roast coffee, roasted nuts, and dark chocolate. A lack of dill notes and overall Maillard character suggests French / European oak rather than American oak [I checked, and this is correct - 100% new French barriques]. There’s fresh turned earth on this, and slight savory tobacco tones from age, but overall it’s still relatively strong in primary fruit. The nose is highly complex, and can develop further.
In the mouth this is (by all accounts), textbook Priorat: Full-bodied, with high alcohol, around 14% [close - 14.5%]. Elevated acidity, strong and mostly tartaric (possibly acidified, but done so tastefully). Medium tannins— rounded, softened coffee-ground-like, felt all over the mouth (oak-influenced tannins for sure). The finish is long, finishing with dark fruit and bitter-chocolate tannins. Midpalate this shows extremely deep fruit, dark and open, with just a hint of savory stewed bell pepper (suggesting pyrazines from the Cabernet/Merlot). Roasted nuts, strawberry jam, savory animal fur, bruised-apple / sweet cider, and fresh turned earth round out a muscular yet poised palate. If you could dress Nijinsky in Vantablack and pour him into a glass, it would taste something like this.
Score: Between 9 and 9.5

WineBerserkers Iberian Peninsula Tasting (Alegria's): Deep color; mixed blueberry, blackberry, plum, slight vanilla; palate is medium bodied, some tannin, youthful, limited black fruit, slight hollowness through the midpalate; medium finish. A bit too new world for me. 87

Light purple in color. Took to a tapas restaurant , drank over two hours. Minerals, spice and bitter cherry, with tannins that are still going strong. Still a baby. Multiple layers, this should easily last for another decade. Did very well with the tomato bread as well as the chorizo and chips and spicy potatoes bravas.

This is a wonderful Priorat- no "spikes", intergrated, velvety tannins, fruit freash, with excellent structure and layering on the tongue- good nose and long finish. Drinking well. Double decanted two hours before supper. Am very happy to have more of these! Will continue to please for a few more years.

PnP. I feet like I dodged a pretty big bullet: On a whim I decided to open this, good thing I did, the cork was totally soaked through, with noticeable wetness just under the capsule, but not enough at this stage to begin making a mess. However, I was in for a treat, not a trick. Wildly complex and with above average purity and balance. Excellent across two nights. SO glad this was still alive. Drink thru 2018, 14,5% abv

Opened an hour in advance - no decant. Lovely and nuanced nose of herbs. Deep ruby color with a tiny tinge of brown, almost Bdx-like. Just had the L'Ermita of the same vintage last night, tasting the middle sister tonight! I am not dissapointed either.
Dark purple color with minimal rim variation. On the nose I get pepper, earth and secondaries of stewed cherries and prunes.
When tasting the peppers and spicy qualities hit, followed with the stewed cherries and ends with a hint of dark bitter chocolate, the kind you cook with. Dare I even say I am enjoying this more than the Ermita from last night? No, but pretty damn close!!

Decanted 4 hours before serving. Deep ruby color. Delicate nose of bright, dark fruit. The palate has matured slightly since my last note. The wine benefited from the time in the decanter. Alvaro Palacios' Finca Dofi: 2000-2007: Opened for 2 hours. Dark color. A bit reducted to start... rubber, mints, nothing else, needs time for fruit to shiw up. Medium to full bodied, mineral, fruity, powerful, medium to long finish. (91-92)

The nose as a juicy feel to it, showing blackberries with stems backed by a bit of roast beef. Later, the blackberry scents pick up a syrupy character. The blackberries are huge on the palate, and the touch of syrup shows itself as well. Firm tannins grip up and dominate later, and some heat shows itself as well. Sweet blackberries linger on the finish, but the structure on this is still crushing me on the mid palate.

Priorat and Ribera del Duero (Willamette Wine Storage, Portland, OR): This smells like a modern Cabernet Sauvignon; could be from Washington if I didn't know better. Hugely rich, spicy, and boozy aromas. The palate is thick and big, tart, and grippy. Too young, and too much tannins. No interesting flavor, but the structure is noticed so it could come around. The finish is again a massive grip of tannins. There's this slight nice candied fruit flavor underlying the massiveness, but barely. I'm not convinced this wine will ever come around.

The nose of this wine had aromas of red fruits, herbs, and a slightly medicinal note. There were some very Old world aromas of leather and damp earth, but they blew off with more time in the decanter. The palate had flavors of currants and berries with a bit of a roasted fruit/earth note. Medium bodied with a medium-long finish. I liked this much more after about 4 hours in the decanter.

Black. Highly perfumed, blueberry and damson essence, delightful violet fragrance. Silky texture, extremely smooth. Pop and pour with a dinner of salmon and fresh crab cakes. The nose of this wine was fantastic - delicate, fruity, touch of smoke. The wine offered a wonderful palate of currant, berry, hint of graphite, very mild terroir. The evolution over the next hour was notable. It definitely relaxed and presented a more elegant and lasting finish lasting 45 seconds and longer. Fans of Priorats will truly enjoy this. It is drinking well now, but definitely has legs on it to cellar.

Tasted April 28, 2007 at an offline. Opened and decanted 3 hours before serving. Dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of black licorice, black berries and white pepper. Early on there was a touch of mint that disappeared. Later on there were some aromas of red currants. Flavors of black cherries, mixed berries, currants and Bing cherries. Light to medium acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium to full bodied. Considering the lengthy decant and it didn’t really start showing its’ stuff until around the 3 hour mark I’d definitely recommend holding at least 3-5 years myself.

Yikes. Just yikes.; 9/24/2009-9/25/2009 (Bowling Green, OH): Black/red fruit on the nose. Medium tannins, acidic, medium+ body. Good balance, not overripe. Lots of red raspberry. Elegant.

Decanted two hours. Oak and blackberries with hints of coffeee and dark chocolate. Very smooth, with soft tannins. Enjoyable, and got better as the night went on.

Blueberry, tar and tobacco with a bit of iron. Good tannic structure and acidity with good length as well. Very youthful and some extra time in bottle (say 3-5 years) will serve it well.

Opened and glass decanted this wine about 30 minutes before serving. Could have used more time as it was better upon revisit even later. Dark purple to crimson color in the glass, vibrant hue throughout. Nose of cocoa, white pepper, perfume, wet stones, smoke and mixed dark fruits. Rich flavors of dark chocolate, currants, plums, berries and a dash of bitters. Bright acidity, firm tannins, full bodied. Drink now with an extended decant or continue to hold.

Deeply colored and full-bodied with rich, chocolaty fruit and load of acidity. A bit astringent to drink tonight but this wine always needs time to flesh out. 88+

WS NYWE Grand Tastings; 10/25/2007-10/26/2007 (Marriott Marquis): Hmmmn, this bottle was ex-chateau and was a clear step up from the others I've tried. Opaque black red color. Sleek aroma of coffee red fruit and apice with mineral hints. Lovely tight bright acidic black fruit with a long coffee finish. Very nice.

Full deep opaque purple. Forward aroma of smoky tar black fruit with some nice spice. On the palate, seems to be coming around a bit already with big rich and thick black fruit with some coffee notes on the finish. Very nice, but could still come together a bit over the next few years.

Cellar Diminishment & Pizza Party (Winetex' home in Austin, TX): WIML92+?,WA95,NOWS
