Berry fruit and a touch of spice on the nose. The palate shows juicy fruit, with some cinnamon, white pepper, and oregano notes. Clearly from young vines. My first Turley in 15+ years and still how I remember it.

A lot more herbaceousness, cloves, spice, charcoal, sea salt, coarse black pepper than I remember my last bottle having. This is a fun wine. If tasted blind, I would have guessed an excellent GSM blend from Paso, heavier on the Grenache and Mouvedre. I do think it's fun that zinfandel has the ability to morph into different personalities depending on the vineyard source and winemaking.

I wanted to like it more because it’s Turley, but still a good Zinfandel for the price. A bit light. Not jammy. Has leather, fruit, and a fair bit going on, but slightly thin for my taste. But that’s OK. This is Turley “Juvenile” which it is, and it went very well with pork chops, rice, and asparagus.

No pruniness detected, per others' notes. A fine straightforward bottle. Acidity and tannins tighter this vintage. Bottle age seemed to have done this well. Was a pizza wine tonight and was consumed quickly by the gang. More of a purple fruit profile, with the acidity keeping things neat and tidy. Ready now.

Very similar to my 4/21/2021 TN. Decanted one hour and kept a touch below room temp. The pruniness mostly blew off leaving nice, spicy energetic brambleberry. Noticeable acid on the back end. Good for me, especially with food!

All my 2017 Turleys aren't tasty. They taste acidic and bubbly, I've stored them at 56 degrees in a wine fridge, and they're just off. Maybe me, maybe the Cali fires. My other 2017 vineyards are fine. No clue, but no bueno

PnP - seemed rather pruny and unbalanced, so decanted 45 minutes. Much better, and after an hour developed into a more respectable Zin with lots of brambleberry and blackberry. Also developed a nice streak of acid on the back end that made it particularly nice with food. What this lacks in complexity it makes up in QPR for a medium-bodied Zin. Just can't figure out this initial pruniness I get in many of Turley's Zins... 89-90

Dark crimson in color. 15.5% ABV. Super nose of red and black fruits, licorice, earth and pepper. Medium to full bodied with ample acidity. Well balanced. Lush and rich with loads of up front fruit. Black cherry, blackberry, raspberry liqueur and pepper on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Really good but I enjoyed a bottle last year slightly more. Best over the next 1-2 years.

Best Juvenile in a while. Very black berry and lead-mineral in the nose. Taste of black berry, some blue fruit but black berry and bramble berry with a long and smooth finish. Not tutti fruity or high alcohol-sharp fruity but smooth black fruit with a rich almost cab-like finish. I would not call this a fruit-bomb because that great finish turns it into something so much more refined. Drink now or 2 years.

I would have to agree with @JHUSEBY here. At first, I was not very impressed, with plenty of Port-like cooked fruits and roasted spice on display but to be fair never overtly hot. Then, maybe one hour later, I started noticing fresher strawberry fruits, white pepper, juicy and crispy red fruits and goodbye to the cooked marmalade. This is very good in fact, getting better by the sip. Crisper than other Zins, after about an hour, and less heavy. Attractive.

Last tasted approximately one year ago, Turley's 2017 Juvenile Zinfandel continues to offer an aromatic profile of red bramble fruits, licorice, rosemary, black pepper and baking spices. Deep ruby, full-bodied and freshly acidic, it delivers flavors in line with the nose, wrapping them with supple tannins and well-woven oak. As is frequently the case with Turley's wines, the alcohol "sticker" (15.5%) causes unnecessary trepidation; this throws no alcoholic heat when served at the appropriate temperature of 60-65°F. Solid on the middle palate and medium-to-long on the back end, this is a well-balanced Zinfandel that should be at its best over the next 2-3 years. Drink now-2023.

Like other Turley Juveniles I've had in the past, this one needs air time to calm down. Initially, after opening, the wine is mostly just hot grape juice. Later in the evening, after being open for a few hours, the wine calms down, comes together and begins to sing. I usually love Turleys, but this one took a while. Give it a couple of hours, and it is good. PnP and there is not much there. Update: on Day 2, the wine was fantastic, and I raise the score from 89 to 91! This furthers my view that this wine needs time after opening.

Dark garnet-purple, opaque. Pronounced aroma mostly black fruits but some red. Very full on the palate, huge concentrated fruit with slight sweetness. Fruit definitely overshadows the moderate underlying tannin, making this very drinkable. Hot, with alcohol evident mainly in the long aftertaste. We like our zin young so will drink these over the next 1-2 years, with big, flavorful foods. Ric

Very young and primary. Soft with copious ripe Zin fruit. Could use a bit more acidity. Tasted over 2 days - did not notice much change but perhaps a bit less primary on the second day. I don't really enjoy Zin at this young stage, but I think this has a chance to improve with some time in bottle.

Color: Dark Purple Nose: Blackberry, Olive, and Pepper Taste: Opens with a Softer Cherry Front; Evloves in the mid-palate to the Blackberry and a Noteworthy Peppery Finish with good acidity for hearty foods; Seemed a bit young and coiled still Comp’s: Thought Rombauer Zin, The Fugitive and The Prisoner seemed a bit more rounded; More Fruit-Forward compared to Chateau Montelena Zin; I think this will be better with longer aeration and some aging

Day 2, bottle #1. A little air works magic on this one. After one day open the tannins have smoothed out and the rich fruit shines. Its a little less heavy than yesterday. Slightly sweet but not cloying ala late harvest with a hot peppery finish. Sturdy and built for hearty dishes. Its better suited to cooler weather.

Strong tannins counterbalance the rich forward fruit. Dark purple with an earthy nose and some must. Raspberries, blueberries, bramble, pepper and tobacco flavors coat the palate. Delicious and rich with mid -heavy weight. Long legs. Delicious but tips a little toward a late harvest example. Slightly heavier than I'm used to with Turley. Expect it to lighten up with some bottle aging. 91-93 points.

Turley's 2017 Juvenile Zinfandel is a deep ruby wine offering an aromatic profile of raspberries, licorice, rosemary, black pepper and baking spices. Full-bodied and with excellent lift, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose, wrapped with supple tannins and nicely integrated oak. Despite weighing in at a hefty 15.5% alcohol, it throws no alcoholic heat when served at the appropriate temperature of 60-65°F. Nicely dense in the middle and finishing with medium length, this is a quality Zinfandel which should be at its best over the next 3-4 years. Drink now-2023.

Our first taste of the Turley 2017s, and this is a winner as well as one of the best qpr’s on the market. Plums, boysenberries, mocha and tea leaf in the bouquet and on the palate. Fulfilling, long-lasting finish. Not terribly complex, but wonderfully drinkable right out of the bottle. Serve at cellar temp. Bodes well for the 2017 vintage. Worth Seeking Out.

Gotta say I was disappointed. Compared to the last 3 vintages, the 2017 seems one note: plum. It's just not that complex. Maybe a year or two will help. I hope so, I bought a case.

Bought 4 bottles at the tasting room in Templeton. Opened the first tonight.
Medium purple color. Aromas of pepper, plum, and spice. The palate is forward with mixed berry flavors, cherry, licorice, and vanilla. The wine is dry with light tannins, medium acidity, and medium+ alcohol.
The future of the next three bottles is bright. Will open one per year to monitor its development. Already can't wait :)

Tasted at the Skurnik Grand Portfolio Tasting in NYC. Poured by Larry Turley. This is pretty obviously the younger vines from their many vineyard sources with 20% new oak, 20% of which is American, the rest French. Super ripe...raisiny on the finish. Pretty high alcohol.(Palate fatigue setting in...)

Color: Dark Purple
Nose: Blackberry, Olive, and Pepper
Taste: Opens with a Softer Cherry Front; Evloves in the mid-palate to the Blackberry and a Noteworthy Peppery Finish with good acidity for hearty foods; Seemed a bit young and coiled still
Comp’s: Thought Rombauer Zin, The Fugitive and The Prisoner seemed a bit more rounded; More Fruit-Forward compared to Chateau Montelena Zin; I think this will be better with longer aeration and some aging

Superb juvenile! A bundle of fruit greets the palate with freshness and balance. Excellent mid palate with follow through to a medium long finish. A hint of corn husk and plenty of acidity adds some complexity and focus. Drinks great day two. Oxygen didn’t dent this baby!

A nose of black cherry and spice, dark garnet in color. A medium to full bodied red, with black cherry, raspberry, licorice and spices on finish, a delicious Zin. This is the entry level Zin for Turley, if you can find their single vineyard wines then buy them. www.winelx.com

needs more bottle time. Bright raspberry fruit and sharp spice as well as a bit of tannin. All will smooth out over time and this will be a better wine.

Needs time or air. Got better during the night.
Bright red fruit. Some of the previous zins I have had were black fruit / purple. This Turley was more bright and juicy.

Up the PCH; 6/4/2019-6/16/2019 (Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez, Paso Robles, Napa, and Willamette): Opening wine for the classic tasting at the Templeton CA location.
Definitely young, just 25 year old vines from a variety of locations. Spicy and lively, but compared to the rest of the flight, couldn't hold a candle to the other sites and vintages.

Lots of fruit, lots of alcohol. A bit overripe for my taste. At $20/bottle, this will be perfect for my friends who know nothing about wine but like to drink mine because I stock good wine.
