Fruity and bold, but with very nice acidity. Honeydew melon, apples and pears are the dominant fruit flavors. The buttery notes are very pronounced, almost too much. There's also pretty heavy oak notes. It's good, but not quite as good as I remember from a year and a half ago, when I last drank it. Or maybe it's just me that's more picky now.

Nose: Fresh Fennel, citrus, apricots, honey in a complex combination
Taste:Multilayered where the complex fruits (red apples and grilled lemons) are combined with white pepper , toasted bread and fennel, almonds and some bitterness (pleasant though) at the end.
A house wine that always works so well!! Should be drunk in a year

Nose: red apples, honey, light bready with balanced Acidity. Good complexity reveals some aging tones.
Taste: at first the acidity are limited, but after a while it reveals itself! Balancing red apples, fresh flowers and light oak tones in slightly oily viscosity. Always a really good wine!

Bottle 3 of 4. We’ve had this laying down for close to 4 years now and there’s no question the bottle age has tamed the extravagance of this wine but I’m not sure it has made it better.
Aromas of candied pineapple, wax, ginger and baked honeycrisp apple.
Palate is rich and round with powerful and persistent acidity and warm alcohol.
Flavours of leesy, creamy butter, tart lemon and spicy ginger.
A very good wine for an outstanding price.

Zero idea how I ended with this, best guess someone brought it to a party. Full bodied, New World Chardonnay, but it stops well short of going into butter-ball territory. Pretty simple lemon-apple-light pineapple fruit profile, with a nice seam of rocky minerals, general creaminess and oak notes that fill out the finish.
In the grand scheme of larger scaled $25, New World Chardonnay, you can certainly do a lot worse. Big, but not overblown. This is a , "successful within the style", sort of wine. Not really my thing, but a good price if you like a bigger style. Caveat Emptor to Chablis and Dry Riesling fans.

Palate: lemon; medium+ finish of pepper and minerality; dry; full- body with just a bit of an oily texture; medium+ acidity; low tannin
Overall thoughts: Nice body and mouthfeel, and balanced, but it's incredibly simple. This is the worst of the 4 bottles I've had. Still, it's a good wine.

What? What happened? These two bottles tasted mostly oak and even more oak. Last three were fresh and fruity, these were mostly oaky with a tad of freshness if you manage to ignore the oak. Is it age? Is it batches? (bought 3 bottles at two different occasions, 6 in total).
From reading reviews, both pro and amateur, scores varies a lot. High scores don't mention oak and low scores mention too much oak. Seems right from my experience. Probably batch related. Was there a mixup of barrels? Weired.
Tasting it 2 years later The oakiness seems stronger now, bitterish at the edge. Full bodied, and deep palate. Lovely aroma of flowers, earth, kiffir lime leaves. Round finish.
Kinda horrific. It goes to show, one man’s 98 pointer is another’s 75 pointer, and I’m being generous. This was so oaky and manipulated, it obscured any variety character this wine may have possessed.
Stor intensiv doft. Päron, brynt smör, jäst. Honungsmelon. Fyllig och koncentrerad i munnen. Tropisk frukt. Marsipan. Bra syra som balanserar upp. Lång eftersmak. Spara inte för länge.
Saturday night offered a pasta with butter-fried chanterelles and mushrooms with a lot of truffles, garlic and cream with higher acidity. To this two wonderful wines, Clendelens Nebbiolo 2013 and El Enimigos Chardonnay 2017, perfect match. Nebbiolon was on the last verse, but incredibly good, more like a Langhe Nebbiolo from Piedemont, nice fruit, nice tannins, lightly drunk right now. El Enemigo's barrel-aged Chardonnay was perfect for the butter-fried mushroom. You who have the Clendelen Nebbiolo 2013, drink now, it will not get better.
As noted by others, lots of ripe lemon and apple fruit with hints of tropical pineapple and guava notes. Due to flor aging, this has one of the more unique mid-palates of any Chardonnay I have tasted. Distinctly chalky and quite dry, there is leesy weight by the buckets that show saline and brioche. A touch of acacia, along with butter toast and vanilla add to the complexity and lengthy mouthfeel. But its that flor aging that really sets the wine apart in my opinion (no experience s Jura Chard so I can not speak to that). Fascinating wine, not for everyone.
I was not impressed by this wine. It was OK but not worthy of the high ratings I am seeing. It did not seem to have good balance. Hoping the other bottle I have drinks better.
Light golden color with medium+ viscosity. On the nose I find citrus, butter, vanilje, apricot and chalk. The taste offers a full texture, but with a good acidity to balance it out. There is expressive woodaromas, butter, vanilla aswell as some semitropical fruit and citrus. A touch og bitter grapefruit. This wine is young and voluminous. If drank now it needs a lot of air. Serve at 10-12 degrees celsius. It feels closed and acidic when too cold and over the top if drank too warm. Great qtp ratio. Medium(+) acidity Medium alcohol Medium+ finish
Pear and a lemon on the nose. A honey-like sweetness that may be oak-related. More pear on the palate with a balanced acidity. Decent length. Opened up over the duration of the dinner. The altitude gives me some German riesling vibes. Great value.
This was very good, but not quite as good as I remember. It got a bit better with air. This has really nice body, but the acidity is a bit lacking. It didn't have enough acidity to pair with fried chicken. Still a very good value.
If you drink this in a traditional white wine setting it is a stand out competitor against warmer climate California Chards. You can do that, or you can pair it with pork. It’s genius shows through with a tender, slightly peppered, and herby preparation of loin. Vanilla, grapefruit, sparkling MINERAL water, oaky finish. It’s dry quality really shines. Argentina dominates again!
Paired with anchovy pasta it has a classic dry, buttery, chard profile.
But, I urge you to explore with it - you will be pleased!

Elegant with ripe Granny Smith and brioche. Not the best Dl Enemigo I’ve had. It would show well in a blind tasting of mid priced California Chards. Great QPR.
Amazing wine! Granny Smith, touch of grapefruit and lemon, some pineapple, just a tad buttert enough to make it rich without taking over. Fruit lasts forever.
This is a fantastic Chardonnay for the price. Aromas of pineapple, dragon fruit, banana, brioche, baking spices, butter tart and vanilla. The palate is full-bodied, lush and round with rich tropical fruit, sweet baking spices and pastry notes. The mid-palate was quite concentrated and the finish medium and buttery.
The elegant, medium+ intensity nose offers ripe lemon citrus and apple with touches of banana, tropical fruit, and vanilla. It is almost full bodied on the creamy palate with lovely ripe lemon citrus, and apple, and banana replays joined by leesy and nutty tones. Notes of pink bubblegum add further interest on the slightly hot mid-palate that is juicy with mouth-watering acidity. Apple and lemon with a leesy-nutty aftertaste on the long finish.
The wine looks straw colored. There is no sediment in the bottle.
Aromas: lemon, pear and vanilla. Flavors: preserved lemon, lemon, banana and pear. Body: light/medium. The wine finishes short with medium acidity.
Opened and drank over 3 nights. Drank best on the second night. Was a lot more mellow. Overall a nice chardonnay. I drank it with a low country boil and it was perfect. Enough acidity to stand up to the spice in the boil and sausage. Also paired really well the Key Lime Pie we had for dessert.
I have two more bottles and will let them sit for a bit.
Golden yellow, pale yellow rim. A little tropical (some pineapple, roast banana), lime, toasted coconut. Smooth, more apple up front, good acidity, a little sweetness, some tropical notes, peaches, citrus, touch of sherbet, well integrated oak, nice finish. Very good Chardonnay, combines both new and old world sensibilities, good now but probably better in a couple of years. Not a fan of the bottle - heavy and too big for fairly standard 750ml bottle racks.
Medium straw color. Tropical fruit, including a bit of coconut on the nose. A little buttery, tropical fruit, citrus, and a hint of oaky spice on the palate. Full body, medium plus acidity, medium finish.
Rich with intense tropical fruit, buttery and oaky style but not over the top. Well balanced but maybe lacking a bit of acidity, especially as the wine warms up. Good match with grilled salmon. I can see this wine having broad appeal. Great value.
Starts off with a very nice tropical fruit, melon and pear nose and as long it stayed well chilled it was OK but as it warmed up it lost focus and became quite disappointing. Went Ok with shrimp and scallops. Maybe Turkey would have been somewhat better as a pairing
91(+?)pts. I really don't consider this wine to be ready at this point - hold for 3-5 years, especially if you don't like a lot of oak influence while drinking Chardonnay. Complete notes on Instagram at brl_winelover
A little bit of everything in this bold Chardonnay. Expressive and layered nose hitting first with tropical fruit, pineapple and mango, followed by an oaky layer of honey and butterscotch and finishing with floral and citrus. In the mouth this wine is dry, full-bodied, alcohol completely hidden and perhaps a touch lacking in acidity. Flavours of caramel corn, buttered pecan, banana, sweet pear and honey crisp apple. Butterscotch and caramel corn on the finish. Crazy QPR!
Lovely oakey Napa-style Chardonnay. Wood flavours coming through well, butter but not overly so and my Chard-skeptics wife enjoyed too. Great value for money, would seek it out.
Day one: 89/90. Has stylish aromas of minerals, chalk, salt and stone fruits . Its medium bodied solid nicely oaked salty stone fruits palate has got good acidity. Mediumish and freshly fruited finish. 13.5%. Lacks length and depth at the moment. Maybe needs 6 mths- 1 year laydown to fill out. Maybe will go to a 90 on day two. Day two fills out to an impressive 92/93 excellent length. Needs time. Superb value at around 16E 50.
A real crowd pleaser. Had along side a domaine Francois Gaunoux Meursault and a Antinori Antigo (both 2016) and it held its ground beautifully. Very lovely. Served with grilled salmon.
The wine has intense fruity aromas bursting from the glass. On the palate you experience an array of intense experiences such as lemon oil, wet stone and hints of tropical fruit. The wine has such structure and balance. Will age gracefully for the next 5-10 years.
An interesting chardonnay: powerful, rather rustic nose, towards nutmeg and wildflower. By contrast, a luscious, very soft palate. (Heavyweight, oversize 750-ml bottle didn't fit in my cellar racks. The bottle hints at that stout nose.)
- Yellow color with slow forming legs and aromas of vanilla, oak and apple. It's balanced and has flavours of vanilla and apple with a light/medium body. Smooth texture with a long finish - Good round chard, with some acid and good fruit.

Single blind tasting Pale straw Aromatics medium +. New oak. Yellow ripe apple. Palate medium + with medium acid and no phenolic bitterness. Yellow apples and butter. Finish has a medium length. Balance seems to lean more towards the acid with a relative absence of fruit on the palate compared to the nose. The wine really suggests a new world Chardonnay given the oak and butter notes.
Lots of disparate reviews on this one, but it was a crowd pleaser in my house. Unexpectedly good for an Argentinian chardonnay at a very reasonable price. Worth trying to see whether you are on the pro or con side of the argument.
Clean stunning yellow appearance with medium nose of tart apple and some tropical fruit, on the palate is lean, medium body, with high acidity. It reminded me of steel dry Austrian Riesling due to the tropical fruit that lingers. I could not detect these oak or the butter notes mentioned on other TN. A cross of old and new world Chardonnay, a very versatile wine
Pale lemon color - clear Medium plus aromas of apples/ yellow flowers with hint of minerality and moderate new oak aromas/ butter Medium palate of ripe apples/ butter - quite dull actually Medium acidity with medium plus alcohol which throws this off balance and medium length I find this to be a stereotypical New World oaked Chardonnay with not much to offer despite the price - not a fan Appears soundly made, just definitely not my style
To a wine geek and score whore like me, the prospect of a sub-$23 bottle of wine scoring a remarkable 98 Points from pretty much any reviewer, is at least a reason to investigate further. That’s just what I did. The wine?
El Enemigo Chardonnay 2017
Originating from Mendoza, Argentina, I’m not sure if it was the review or production limits (showing only 300 cases imported to the US), but when I started out trying to find this wine, it took some time, but then, an email graced my inbox and there, in its full glory was the offer I had been waiting for. Buy this wine for the amazing price of ONLY $22.79! Well, I can tell you it didn’t take long for my fingers to go to work and hit that “Submit” button to pick some up. I had to wait a little while to pick it up, and while I wanted to try the wine as soon as I got it, I did manage to hold off for a short time before diving in and checking things out.
As my usual routine, I did some digging before digging into the wine. On the surface, things seemed pretty much standard for the wine production, UNTIL, I came across a little trick the winemaker added during the fermentation of the wine. I ran into a word unfamiliar (how you ask can a wine geek like me not know everything about wine? It happens…) to me; FLOR. Somewhere along the line, I saw it means “Floral.” Seems reasonable as the first 4 letters are the same. But I had to dig deeper to find out what it meant in wine lingo. It is a term used in Sherry production (now I see why I didn’t know). It refers to a yeast cap that forms over the top of the juice while aging to prevent oxygen from reaching the juice. Seems simple, but have no idea how it might affect the wine, I’m guessing it does and is why the wine tastes as it does.
For me, the wine showed exceptionally well. Opening with a whiff of bright stoned fruit and a honeyed layer, both of which transported themselves to the taste of the wine. Also offering a touch of floral notes (there’s that FLOR again), that all combine to create a bold wine with a multitude of layers that provide for great depth and length. Regardless of reviews and scores, this is a keeper. A lovely wine at a great price (if you can find it), that I think would please many a Chardonnay drinker.
As a devote of wine, I will keep on my hunt for the best wines at the best prices, maybe there’s a 98 Point wine out there under $10!
Deep yellow in color with lemon meringue, mineral, and slight pear on the nose. Meyer lemon and grapefruit on the palate. Nice citrus notes with medium acid.
To be honest, expected a bit more from this, given how good their very top Chardonnay (White Stones) is, but this is still quite a good Chardonnay for the price of under $20. A lot going on, and probably needs some more time in bottle for it all to assimilate.
Some wines are composed in a way that makes them greater than the sum of their parts - this one seemingly tends in the other direction, for me at least. There's a lot going on on the nose - honey, lemon curd, papaya, nutmeg, white flowers, and so on - but it doesn't compel me as a whole for some reason. Too much MLF, which I think has dulled some of the tension that the wine might otherwise have, and waaaay too much glycerine, which gives this wine an awkward muscularity akin to a bodybuilder on roids (the comically heavy bottle perhaps suggesting this association in my mind all the more). Supposedly aged under flor, though nothing about the wine itself would have tipped me off. There are parts of it that I do like, and in the grand scheme of things I think for a $20-25 chardonnay it is admittedly pretty good if your preference is for ripeness.
Thumbs up for this chardy & at a very decent price , is a steal.... Citrusy sweet nose of orange, grapefruits, pomelo, pear, almond nuts & floral. What I really liked about this white wine is the beautiful palate, clean & extremely structural with bold vibrant fruits tannins gushing throughout the mouth and well balanced, with a good dose of acid and mineral , & just the right amount of oakiness. Lengthy finish.
Hated the '16--heavily oaked, sappy--but this is very different. Dialed back with an unusual aroma/flavor I couldn't put a name to but liked a lot. After reading that this is made under flor, I get it. Quite beguiling, actually.
Struck me as surprisingly Burgundian on first taste. Light oak, balanced apple and pear fruit-- almost restrained. However, the heavier body hits in the mid-palate, and then the alcohol hits a bit at the end. Got much more tropical as it warmed a bit. Since it's aged under flor and inspired by the Jura, I was expecting some oxidative notes, but there are none. Well made wine at a good price. I'm not sure what James Suckling was thinking scoring this a 98, though.
Good, but not thrilling, a bit confectionery with too much creamy near marshmallow at times, yet it is good. This was heavily promoted by some local retailers so I picked up one sub-$20. Decent QPR, but not something I want to rush back for more.
85 for the wine, add 3 points for the absurdly heavy bottle for 88, pad with "six for Suckling" and I can see a 94 point wine here! But I see Suckling gave it a 98, so a full 10 spot over my "bottle-weighted" score. Who knows, maybe some bottle variation.
Vin Chicago Pickup Party & Tasting (Seven Bridges Golf Club): Retailer tasting. Tropical fruit and fig gives way to orchard fruit notes, along with a woody element. Light- to medium-bodied, with flavors of dried pear and quince. There's an oak influence on the palate, but it's well done and doesn't mask the fruit. Nicely balanced. 89-91 pts.

Ripe pear, apple, melon, and lemongrass lead the way on the nose and palate, with a soft buttery note emerging midway through. It could use a bit more acid, but is still deftly balanced and a beautiful wine. Lemon, pear, and butter alternate on the long, elegant finish. 20 bucks at Costco, and my new leader in the clubhouse for best value of the year.
Clean, beautiful clear medium yellow color with some glycerine. Beautiful nose with exotic fruit, neutral oak. Clean and fresh on the palate with balance, just right acidity, multifaceted, smooth mouthfeel, opened with slight warming in the glass and air. Classy and redolent of a high end burgundy.
Should you be interested, I’ve uploaded info for this vintage which you can peruse at your leisure. 😉
N: Lt grassiness, notes of asparagus? Lemons underneath? Intensity lurking?
P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt BEAUTIFULLY offset by an acidity which SEAMLESSLY transitions into a very LONG, impeccably BALANCED, tangy/swt finish. Very, VERY *nicely* done for now & through '21, though may WELL go longer because of the balance & acidity. My EXC+ (94,95/100 on that metric). [As of mid Oct '19, wine-searcher shows numerous sources from $20-$25].
FYI, 1st, knowing the general price range of the Enemigo reds, I was THINKING this was a $50+ Chard, my "score" above therefore not giving even the SLIGHTEST "break" for its REAL price pt (of which I knew nothing). 2nd, a VERY experienced taster, albeit NO fan of S. Am wines in general, wasn't NEARLY as enamored of this as I. :( So, I'm thinking this is quite poss a "like it or leave it" style.

Medium(+) acidity
Medium alcohol
Medium+ finish

Pear and a lemon on the nose. A honey-like sweetness that may be oak-related. More pear on the palate with a balanced acidity. Decent length. Opened up over the duration of the dinner. The altitude gives me some German riesling vibes. Great value.

Nearly a year since I last enjoyed this and I still think it is an excellent and wild Chardonnay with great QPR.
Nose is dominated by butterscotch but continually impresses and evolved with notes of barbecued pineapple, lemon zest and rich butter cream.
Weighty and textured on the palate, bursting with acidity and hot alcohol that will disappear with another year in bottle.
Flavours trend more citrus with lemon meringue pie, cream and a zesty, spicy finish.
Drink 2021-2026.

Crazy QPR!

Single blind tasting
Pale straw
Aromatics medium +.

Clean stunning yellow appearance with medium nose of tart apple and some tropical fruit, on the palate is lean, medium body, with high acidity. 98 Points and Under $23
To a wine geek and score whore like me, the prospect of a sub-$23 bottle of wine scoring a remarkable 98 Points from pretty much any reviewer, is at least a reason to investigate further.
Cheers

Pale lemon color with slow legs. Nose of lemon, honeydew with a hint of grass White pepper, honeysuckle and a little butter on the palate. Nice creamy finish with well balanced acidity.

Great freshness in spite of it's almost exotic richness; creamy and charming.
