Beautiful aromatics upon opening, but they blew off a bit with air. Fruit is mostly fresh, slightly muddy, but otherwise this is drinking well. Definitely missing a bit of depth and weight on the finish. Drink up!

We've been aiming to keep our drinking in a fairly reasonable window which has tended to mean we've mostly been sticking to daily drinkers since we haven't had the opportunity to share wines. This night though we made an exception. On an evening session with Alessandro Lunardi. The official wines for the online tasting were the new releases, but I was thinking quality over quantity so opted for the single bottled of aged Ornellaia. And it was just perfect. A good reminder that there is a big difference between the great wines and the daily ones. Decent power and still some finesse. Lots of black cherry and soil and just a touch of spice notes. It was really lovely. Small pleasures in life and great wine is one of those.

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about four hours.
Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of pencil shavings, slate, potpourri, spice box and mixed berries. Solid flavors of mixed berries, cherries and plums. Tangy acidity, medium to firm tannin, full bodied. Drink or hold. I'd lean towards drink. In a good place right now.

Deep ruby red in colour, very little bricking on the rim.
It looks and tastes young. Surprisingly vital. It had perfectly ripe Cabernet that Ornellaia does so well but was much more classic in style. Plenty of acidity and fine tannins. Lovely vibrant blackcurrant fruit. This massively surpassed everyone's expectations. A cali-cab for a British palate. Cracking stuff. Tasted at Portland restaurant.

Still excellent. The presumption is that this is now past its best and will fade. I'm not sure it is so easy to raw that conclusion. In several bottles tasted over the last few years, this wine has just continued to give great pleasure in every dimension. Considering this is only the third vintage of the wine, it stand up against any left bank wine of the same year. It is deep without being heavy or cloying, has great length without being over saturated; it is a symphonic.

Beautiful ruby red colour with a very floral nose. Black cherries, oak leather a bit tired but still lovely. Copious amounts of acids with nice tannins and a medium finish. Drink up!

Quite enjoyable. K enjoyed more. Would have been great five years ago. The fruit was definitely present, but on it's way down. Had the '97 a month ago or so, which was amazing, so this just couldn't keep up unfortunately. If you have a bottle, drink up.

Always needed extended breathing since 1st bottle in 2001; 2 were corked, remainder stunning. Rich Bordeaux in nose and palate (95% of Bordeaux should be this good even at this price), perfectly balanced, outstanding with roasted meats, peak window closing.

This wine is fully mature, but still has a nice bouquet of dark fruit and earthy overtones. It shows no sign of bricking and will probably hold for several more years.

Dark red. Very much a claret nose with a hint of tea and earth. Still hanging on with decent red fruit. Still some nice tannins. Others knew it was Italian form the acidity. Not me I thought France for sure. Great wine.

Tight, steely, mineral nose that sets this apart from younger versions. Still retains black currant fruit but all the other elements, slatiness and a strong tobacco note gives this a more than passing resemblance to a fine Graves. A bit of cheesiness reveals it age. This offer a nice, soft resolved entry with lovely tea notes up front building towards a bright cassis midpalate which is a bit compressed on the top. Still taut, cool , yet balanced. Drink em up 2008-2012

Enjoyable right out of the bottle but past its peak. After two hours of decanting it was completely gone.

No decanting, went straight to the glass, leather, then black fruits,
probably past its prime but still very drinkable.

Second of four bottles from the same auction lot. Both were flawed - completely oxidized, sour and vegetal.
