I prefer the understated Bordeaux style I believe this tries to achieve — especially one with some Brett influences like Opus. That said it’s difficult to get past how massively overpriced this is.
Quite young to be fair, for this style, but the nose shows rather simplistic red cherry mixed with possible lees notes, hint of cassis, tobacco, and warm pencil shavings.
Palate is balanced with moderate powdery tannin and prominent acidity.

Power decanted for 3 min. Temp was 55 at pour and 58 at taste. Definitely flattened the front and dissipated the heat at the end. Next bottle try a 4min decant to see if it turns back.
Flavors of dark, black currants from the nose with a deep concentration, dark and deep earth, spice and dark oak. Soft but dark graphite on the finish. Bear with me and my ridiculous descriptions, but with air time, there's a gentle note of grey clouds.
Rich fruits with a pretty heavier than, what I imagine, the lighter body this usually has. Hate to say it, but my favorite of the lineup for the night. Its competition was ass, though..
Deep ruby color; very pronounced, youthful aromas of vanilla, raisin, coffee, black cherry; med(+) body, med tannins, high acidity, med alcohol, long finish; young but soft and round, the fruit is riper than other vintages (vs 2012, 2019); good now but better after 5+ years

App: deep ruby. Nose: medium plus intensity; aromas of black olive, tobacco, leather, cassis, red currant, red cherry. It’s developing. Palate: dry, highly acidity, high tannins, high alcohol, medium plus body, pronounced flavour intensity, long finish. Now I sort of understand why people say Opus One has an old world soul. Not punching on the face fruit like some other Napa wines, but shows more controlled and restrained power. Love the persistent and multi-layered flavors on the palate and it just goes on and on and on…absolutely love it!

Open for a special occasion. I know it was young but still had great structure and body. Color was deep and after letting breathe for an hour it was wonderful I am looking forward to opening others in the coming years. The fruit flavor was all there and hints leather and chocolate

Had at Elway's in Denver for a friend's "Bender in Denver" Bachelor party. Paired with a Petite Fillet. This was open for business. I wonder how well those devices that pour for restaurants do for the wine and if they degrade the wine at all. In any case, my glass was singing. Was it transcendent? Not even close, but went very well with the steak I had. Red fruits galore. This wine carried a soft, feminine feel to it. I almost wanted to give this thing a hug and embrace its motherly like feel. I have a love hate relationship thing with Opus One though. It can be good and it can also be the worst value wine in Napa Valley. Would I buy this for $350? Meh...For $200? Yup!
Friend Jeff purchased a bottle to try before adding it to his locker at a private club in Texas.
Pop and pour. Beautiful color, clear deep strawberry to maroon. Very pretty aromas of ripe red berry fruit with touches of vanilla and cedar. Velvety to silky feeling on the palate. Very balanced. Goes down very easily. One of the best Opus I’ve had since the ‘96. The ‘14 was a hot mess. Other vintages don’t stand out.

One at Opus One: At this young age, the Opus One has come together better and is generally more enjoyable than any other 2017 I’ve had to date. It offers plenty of red fruits on the nose and palate, a rich body, balanced acids, and a lingering finish. Mineral notes hint at further complexity yet to develop. Is it worth the price with so many other great wines in the valley? Unequivocally: no. But neither has the emperor forgotten his clothes. Likely best in in 3-15 years.

Rich and powerful, yet in a dense way today with super-concentrated berries of blackberries, boysenberries, blackcurrants, plums, ripe raspberries, coffee, leather and vanilla beans. Pretty full-bodied and properly spicy wine with excellent mouthfeel of blackberries, blackcurrants, plums, coarser soils and leather on a long and dense finish. Truly a power plug that wants to come out, but needs some time. To blood beef in 15 years = Heaven. 94 points. For now. (94-96p)

Wine in the time of Corona Virus - Quarantining in NYC & NH; 3/7/2020-9/1/2020 (NYC/NH): Pop and Pour. Tasted in vertical of 15,16,17. Not yet released, we had the opportunity to taste this with the winemaker in a virtual tasting. 2017 was the year of the fires. The grapes for this vintage were harvested the morning the fires started and the blend excluded anything that was picked during the fires. This was generally the favorite of the three for the group although I preferred the 2016. The finish on this one was very juicy and lively - very nice!

Celebrating age (Oakland, CA): Aromas of black currants, fruited earth, and damp oak.

Good fruit but nit amazingly concentrated. Very smooth after 1.5 decant. Finish is very long. Nose is expensive but not very explosive.
