One would never guess a wine this taut derived from the 2018 vintage, and even at six years of age it remains overly tensile. Some attractive mineral-tinged crabappley fruit, and some thrill from the sheer acidity, but ultimately we didn't find it massively interesting (and it's not clear whether we would have done with five years more development either).

Stunning orchard fruit mixed with solid salinity and density. Absolutely amazing acidity keeps things lively. Starting to show a touch of secondary: nutty notes and a hint of lanolin. In an excellent place and fantastic on day 2 open. This could go for a long time if this btl is representative.

Bart's. Bone dry, tight and tart "like an angry Granny Smith apple" said someone. A bit too dry even for me who has a very dry palate. I'll bet if allowed to rest open overnight, good things would have happened. Hard to judge on this tasting, though.

Old friends and young wine (Kitchen Istanbul San Francisco): Holy guacamole - this is the good schist. Chosen by A from the list - a favourite of his, and not hard to see why. A bit of rubber on the nose on opening, as well as a bit of freshly cut grass. Lovely acidity (evidently the winemaker looks for “brutal” acidity). Some lemon - almost candied lemon. But such length - it goes on and on. Apparently just 12.5% abv - I was assuming this gorgeous mouthfeel came from the alcohol but maybe not. For what it seems to cost on Wine-Searcher - a Billy bargain.

Kitchen Istanbul with Leon, Gence, Alder (Kitchen Istanbul, SF): Pale straw in the glass. Noble reduction. Flint. Hint of slightly more acrid reduction at first, but it blew off. Hints of barely ripe lemon curd. Flint and smoke. High+ acid. Med alc - 12.5%. So smoky. schist soil -> maybe indirectly leads to the reduction but it’s a poetic notion. Also I was just climbing on some of the best schist in the world at Rumney :) Lovely. 9-9.5. Slight terpenes - underripe nectarine.
Very high acid neutral-ish style but aromatic within that style!

Colour: bright gold, bright, clear. Nose: full, fresh, ripe, good varietal notes, becomes quite opulent Taste: light body, rounded, peaches, citrus, good acidity, long finish, v dry yet rounded, peaches, stone fruits; Overall, needs time in the glass to open up but rewards you. Compared to Domaine Richou (Terra Vita Vinum)'s 2019 Pavillon, their top single vineyard wine. Very different styles as this has no oak it seems and has a varietal precision. A great discovery.

Another very pleasing bottle. This wine is all about tension. A little mint, great minerals, then a wave of lime juice and thin light honey syrup, almost like a sweet and sour sauce, which reminds me; this would go great with thai food. It’s bone dry, but could definitely handle some heat, and no remorse for opening now as it softened some with air but didn’t greatly improve.

A lot of these notes are really useful and accurate with my experience of the wine tonight. Following over 90 minutes so far, the key feature is its searing acidity. This is my first vintage of Boudignon but if 18 is this tart/crisp, I can only imagine that 17 would be more so. Pale yellow in the glass with a little pithy lemon, green apple, and slate. There’s some honey on the finish, too, but you wouldn’t be out of place to guess Chablis from a cool vintage, but for the crazy acidity. I’m having a hard time coming up with a good comparison. Still, I like this as an aperitif and am eager to try the other wines in the lineup.

Lemon, white peach and seaspray aromas, with a very crisp attack of citrus fruits, slightly peppery, mouth-puckering acidity, only then moving onto a slightly richer wave of butterscotch and honey, before returning to the lemon for the finish. It's good, in the style of other young guns in the region, but very tight and compact. Hopefully, time will allow it to relax a bit, but for now I get more pleasure from a Champalou costing a third less.

The nose swarms from the glass and fills up the nostrils. Super chalky with awesome ripe fruit (lemon, tangerine, white peach), beeswax and white pepper. Massively expressive, crystalline HD stuff. Packs quite a volume despite moderate 13% ABV, this has a ton of texture. Lemon-driven but more saline than anything, iodine for days. A fantastic tangy, savory style, despite the concentration it is not heavy at all due to very good acidity. Great length and intensity too, this one does not disappear quickly from the palate. A splendid wine and solid value.

Seen this maker getting some traction so wanted to give his basic bottling a try before buying the higher cuvées. Was expecting bracing acidity given the comments, but the riper vintage might have obscured that a little here. Still good acidity but it’s the roundness and slightly sweet but citrus fruit that dominates. Very high quality of winemaking here, if you like powerful whites this is excellent.

Shows classic notes of (Anjou?) pear and honeycomb but not in a ripe sticky way. There is a underlying river stone and almost faint smoky nuance. Good structure but not imposing. I like the way this held together and I think there is positive evolution ahead. I drank most of this without food and it seems like that is a mistake as this feels like a gastronomic wine. This is much more restrained than my memory of these wines and makes me excited to try the other wines I bought to try.

Showing beautiful tonight. Mineral, chalky nose with unripe tropical fruit (pineapple) along citrus fruit. Great acidity on the palate, a little exotic profile than the nose, powerful but mineral. Love that wine. Bigger, riper than 2017 but still so balanced and drinking really well that young.

Brace, brace, brace! Wow, this is ‘fresh’ in the battery acid sense. I’m not getting the viscosity, riper fruit flavours or rounding that some of the other notes mention, so not sure if it’s this bottle, or maybe just not my style (I have no problem with acidity normally), but I can’t take more than half a glass of this in its current state. No obvious softening or change over four days. Would work with oysters. * though your money may vary.

Very chalky, mineral nose. Fruit is ripe but the wine is very balanced thanks to a refreshing acidity. Lemon/lime, fresh licorice. You don't find here the usual austerity or even sensation of having picked too early that you could sometimes blame Boudignon for.

Opened and let breathe 30-min ahead of moderately spicy Thai yellow chicken curry. Super pale straw color. Nose brings white flowers, honeycomb, lemon curd, and crushed rock. The palate is light, square, hard, and compact, bringing elusive green, orange, and yellow fruit with loads of minerals, emerging savory notes, and a distinct reoccurring honey note. The texture and viscosity on this wine is its hallmark - thick, oily, velvety, with good weight. Drink 2022-2030. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 92.
