  • Very much red fruited and wide open for business. There are delicious pomegranate and raspberry fruits. It has plenty of floral spice and there is something cool and stony lurking. It is silky, mid-weight and beautifully balanced.

  • Drinking Some Great Mugnier as an Hommage to Becky Wasserman (Republique - Los Angeles CA): In 99/01/02/05 vertical, followed by the same vintages of Musigny. The only bottle of the vertical that we decanted (thankfully). Easily the biggest and most ripe of the vertical, but somewhat candied fruit that is not yet showing Chambolle elegance. So much here, but just teasing us tonight. "92 point" wine tonight, 94+ point potential, 2025 forward? Better yet, 2030 forward.

  • It’s Christi’s BD party and the host opened 4 btls of amoureuses EACH from Groffier and JFM! All Groffier’s were 2009 vintage but JFM had 98’ 05’ 06’and ‘08. Among the shining JFM, Groffiers disappointment was unavoidable. JFM was a pure clean crystal ruby jewelry, which showed the reason to drink with a lover, even her diamond ring would be shy away when tossing the glasses in the candle light. The nose was humble dry roses in the forest. Juicy mouth feel, silky palate but tight structure for all those vintages we served. I got some spicy after taste of burning wood, peppers and somehow the unforgettable bitterness fooled me around for the night. Yes, it reminded me some girls that we all had some great moments but we would never be together… For the vintage preferences, I picked up 05’, 08’, 98’ and 06’ as 96, 95, 93 and 93 respectively.

  • Beautiful nose but clearly too young. Very drinkable now as the tannins are soft with plenty of bright fruit. This will definitely benefit with another 5 years of age.

  • The wine was followed for several hours and had a nice development throughout the evening. More primary, somewhat clearer wood from the start. More integrated over time.

Wonderful charming power with the most delicious perfumed raspberries, orange peel, summer roses, steam from summer wet grass, baking powder and exotic, slightly sweet spice varieties create ultimate joy. Pretty full-bodied and extremely charming and delicate wine. Lovely red-purple fruit, cask spices and some mint. Nicely salty. The wine develops throughout the evening and also acquires a more umami character, against mushrooms. Also some leather belt. Long complex and fresh finish. The wine has the strength og the vintage and wood is clearly more prominent here than in recent vintages. But it suits the vintage well. This is a wine that has come 1/3 in its life. Just put it back in the wooden box and push it further back in the cellar. Need time, but still - fabolous wine! 96 points.

  • Pakket nesten helt inn.

  • SLDS December 2017: Smoke, raspberry, tobacco, five spice and tea leaves. Ethereal on the palate, the essence of great Pinot fully on display with exceptional harmony and delicacy. Beautiful poise and balance, with the acid and the tannins providing unobtrusive structure. Seamless, astounding wine, one of the top 2005 Burgundy I've had.

  • Slow oxed for 1 hour. Really attractive floral pinot aromatics lead to a wine with poise, harmony and balance. Flawless. There's intensity with minimal weight, fine tannins leading to a long finish. Delicious. Time will no doubt offer more complexity. I'd love to revisit in 5-10 years.

  • Something going on with this bottle and some people had it defect. Me - I am not so sure as the say after the nose had turned into pretty good. Still - this bottle should have been spectacular..

  • Very youthful but oh so pretty and balanced. Delicous plump and sweet cherry fruit. It has a waxy feel in the mouth and real depth. It is voluminous, expansive and cut by fine minerally acidity. Length is superb.

  • Dark fruit, black pepper, some floral notes, iron and earth. This seemed more advanced than it should have for an 2005.

  • Wow, wow, wow. We had the Amoureuses, the Bonnes Mares & the Musigny open side-by-side - each with a 2 hour decant.
The Amoureuses was clearly the most open for business with an abundance of fragrance, no signs of excess acidity or structure and just a beautiful wine to sip and contemplate. The Musigny's added tannins and concentration made it a better match for food, and the Bonnes Mares shown a lot more tannic heft and will need 10 years to come around (but it will probably never be as florally gorgeous as its siblings), but the Amoureuses' florality, balance, weightlessness just made it irresistible. It was the first bottle to be finished of the three

  • Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Tru - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Bottle had been open several hours. Showcases the best of what I enjoy about both Mugnier and this vineyard in particular (which I often prefer to his Musigny). Layers of aroma and flavors unfold each time to sniff or taste from glass. Fresh and rich red berry and cherry, steeped with spice. Perfect balance and density, while retaining an incredibly elegant weightlessness.

  • Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Tru - Chicago IL): A baffling wine that I think was most likely slightly damaged, probably corked, but certainly confusing. I tasted twice.

First was early afternoon, approx 2 hours after decanted. It was large and very firmly structured with backward red fruit aromas and flavors, far more rustic or coarse than I'd ever expect from Mugnier, even in a highly structure vintage such as 2005.

Second tasting was several hours later as I was leaving and the structure just overwhelmed everything else, with the large red fruit from before now muted or stripped. The trajectory of these two data points lead me to believe this bottle was slightly corked.

  • HDH auction tasting at Tru (Chicago, IL): Very bright colour. Showing quite a bit of oak and a slight hint of iron, but it's quite hard for me to peg this as Chambolle. Incredibly young and big, this is a "smash-you-in-the-face" kind of Burgundy right now. Slight hint of licorice and other black fruit. Again a very powerful note of iron pops up. Just closed right now, but without a doubt this is an insanely big wine.
