Easy drinking pink bubbles. For the price that we get it at it's a very reasonable wine and an easy middle of the week bottle to open. Bits of red fruits. Not particularly complex and not a champagne that I'd age, but I still find it enjoyable.

Red tinged color ala Saignée from 100% PN. Quite appealing for its concentration, depth & all round tastiness. Layers of red raspberry, strawberry, mineral, faint herbs & toast. Strikes a balance between crisp & rich. Only thing missing is the utter refinement & finesse of rose' from top producers but great for this level. Slightly dry finish. A terrific value for $36 last summer. 91+

End of the night bubbles which are particularly fitting for a toasty (spring) day next to a fire at the end of the night. This was all freshness and red fruits and light and after a few reds and some BBQ it was a nice change of pace. Drinks well as always although I think this is more of a drink young style of wine.

A Year Later in Vero...; 3/17/2021-3/21/2021 (Vero Beach): Light and easy and really more of a bonus bottle in what was a pretty great line-up. Drank a glass before dinner and then pulled out at dinner but the aged champagnes overshadowed it. Still - for the price it's bright and fresh enough and drinks reasonably well and it's always fun to have pink bubbles.

Dallas CTers visit NYC offline: Disgorged April-2018. 2 years on lees - Dosage 10g. An easy drinking style of rose - red berries, some watermelon, with the citrusy acidity tamed a bit by the dosage. Bottle had been open for at least 3 hours when I tried so the bubbles had dissipated a bit. Soft and pretty.

Strong earthy, soily expression on the nose. It really sticks too, as it was still there on night two. I'd have to guess that's from the 'saignee' end of the wine. The color was more red than the varying shades of pink you are used to for rose Champagnes. Very red. Nice fresh red fruits underneath that earth. Touch of sweetness that sticks out a bit. Plenty of acid but not really focused. A solid wine I'm glad I tried but not really looking for repeat performances. You might do just as well spending much less on a cremant de Borgogne.

I'm not knowledgeable enough at this point to comment on value here, but this was well enjoyed by several people. It really strikes a balance, fresh fruit (strawberry) and perfect acidity that allows the bubbles to present the wine softly.

NV JOSE DHONDT ROSE de SAIGNEE BRUT- it had an amazing colour of red amber; the initial nose was of freshly trimmed rose petals, clove and fruit forwardness of maraschino cherry, strawberry and red raspberry with a hit of cinnamon; the aromas and taste profile softened dramatically in a few minutes becoming less intense and also included spicy clove accented red raspberry; over time, the wine significantly mellowed and balanced out; it was full bodied with a rich assortment of flavours.

I'm not sure of the disgorgement date on this, but I know I've had it for a couple years, so this wasn't exactly 'young". Compared to prior bottles this lacked the flamboyance of the fruit, which for me is the real strength of this wine. Today this leaned closer to to a more traditional Rosé Champagne, which made it seem a little over extracted and disjointed. I would either drink these as young as possible or opt for something like a vintage Roederer Rosé for a leaner, more classic, profile. These are still great holiday / celebration wines.

Very good aperitif, although not quite as good as previous disgorgements. Extremely pinot and red fruit driven, but there is plenty of acid to hold the opulence and the slightly higher dosage (10g/l - I think) in check. The minerality reads slightly bitter on the finish, which is fine, but it feels a little out of place with the general tenor of the wine.

Fine Vines Fall 2016 Portfolio Tasting (Fine Vines - Melrose Park IL): Tasting, brief note. Disgorged in 2014, entirely from 2011 harvest. Fat and slightly opulent, this is very Pinot fruit-driven. Not to my liking, but not a bad champagne. Very rose-ish with bright strawberry flavors. I like a bit of pinot in my champagne but not this much. Lacked the yeasty brioche component that I prefer. Fun light and not very cerebral, easy to drink. If you like the style, then this is a good example of it.

Very deeply colored rosé with some slight orange / salmon hues. I've seen a few Cavas with that are similar, but the next stop on the color wheel probably lands on Lambrusco. This has been in storage for several years, but still had a lot of small persistent bubbles and a very fine mousse and came across as being pretty youthful. The palate has a concentrated array of just about every bright red fruit you can imagine, with light citrus notes, a bit of minerality and a bit of yeastiness that reminds you that this is Champagne and not a tank method rosé. Probably more straight up delicious than "serious", but it was really great as an aperitif and was fantastic with an array of cheeses and shrimp. Very much a crowd pleaser for the holidays.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium/high acidity. There is a real tartness to the acidity that does make it more on the dominant side with red fruits, cherries, crackers, and crushed rocks.
Overall: The Chardonnay showed through on both the nose and palate. While the color was a medium pink, the saignee didn't seem to show off too much as it was more complimentary to the wine. I wasn't able to note the disgorgement, but this was a recent bottle. I would like to see what this could do with an extra year or two on it.

This is very much a love it or hate it style of wine. It is much more of a pinot rosé that happens to be sparkling, rather than a traditional rosé Champagne. Slightly off-dry, with huge red fruit notes: mostly raspberry and pomegranate, that are buffered by enough acidity and yeasty notes to keep it from straying into something syrupy. The very deep red color on this should clue you in to what you are in store for. It is definitely an outlier, but I thought it was great with salmon. If I were served this blind, I would think it was an American experiment, albeit a successful one, rather than Champagne.

Champagne Tasting at Gordon's (Gordon's Fine Wine & Liquors): Nice nose of fresh raspberry and some raspberry liqueur. Fruit dominates the nose, again little yeastiness (must like the Blanc des Blancs). However, the palate on this feels totally out of whack - alcohol coming through strongly, poorly integrated flavors. $65.

This is a slightly more serious style of rose that has lots of substance to it and can come across a little bit like lighter pinot noir rather than an elegant champagne. However, the fruit on the palate is just wonderful and lively with flavors of strawberries, raspberries, and rhubarb. The flavors last for almost 30 seconds before fading. While this is definitely a different style of rose to the ones I am more used to, it is still a good bottle of champagne.

While a little more tight than usual, this Jose Dhondt rose was still drinking very well. The best feature of this champagne is its ability to maintain a certain lightness of flavor - including uplifting flavors of sweet tarts - while at the same time being a heavier rose that goes great with appetizers and fish dishes. Wonderful notes of strawberries, rhubarb, rapberries and good acidity. A very nice NV rose indeed.

One very interesting aspect of the Jose Dhondt Rose de Saignee is that it does seem to have a relatively wide bottle variation. This bottle was not only more open than the last one we consumed, but it had a depth and acidity that was beyond any other Dhondt rose we have tried so far. In fact, this had great tension and a solid core of citrus and red apples along with a slight whisp of tannins. However, this bottle was missing the deep open fruity and strawberry cream flavors that our first couple of Dhondt rose bottles had in spades. Overall this is still a very high quality rose with variablility and should be consumed with food.

While this bottle of Dhondt rose was not quite at the level of the last couple of bottles, it was still a nice champagne. This is a richer pinot driven rose that is a deep red color in the glass and is one of the darkest and richest roses from the region. It has a nice sweet strawberry and mineral flavors along with a slightly tannic depth. This has a nice silkyness to it. Right now this bottle showed very young and tight, so my guess is that around 6 months of aging would have done it some good. However, this strikes me as a rose that you would want to consume young in order to get the freshest flavors. In addition, you will most likely get the best experience from this rose if consumed with food.

Dark like a stout, still rose in the glass. Solid core of cherry and raspberry with a slight bitterness on the finish that subsides over time and turns into a bread, baked madeline type finish that lingers. Probably could use a bit of time to shows its best but wow what a big, concentrated rose champagne. Drink with food for maximum pleasure!

Grower Champagne Dinner (Chambar): 100% Pinot Noir and the grapes from this bottling are mainly from the 2007 vintage. Medium bright pink in colour. Bright and youthful nose of candied strawberries and cranberries. In the mouth ripe yet tart red berry fruit with good acidity and a slightly aggressive mousse. This is very fresh and fruity and somewhat simple but with some time in glass developed traces of yeast/dough. There are hints of sweetness coming through on the palate as well. This got better as it sat in the glass and warmed up a tad. A tasty young Champagne that could use a few years to develop. Good. 86+

This is an excellent rose. In fact, it is one of the best non-vintage roses on the market. For me it ranks right up there along with Camille Saves and Billecart Salmon and is better than Henri Billiot, Pierre Peters, and Rene Geoffroy roses. It has a beautiful strawberry and rhubarb nose and has a very light and sliky texture. It is nearly perfectly balanced and has flavors of strawberries, cherries, raspberries, rhubarb, peaches, flowers, vanilla extract, a drop of honey, and a bit of white bread. This version was based on 2008 fruit and that may be the secret as to why it is showing so well.

No formal notes. Huge dose of rust/funk on the p and p, moderated significantly with some airtime. Turned to beautiful red fruit on the nose, transfers onto the palate. Like all of the Dhondt Champagnes I've had, has wonderful richness and yet great acid/balance. Good stuff all around.

Colour: light red
Nose: Strawberry, a bit of raspberry, crashed rocks and a hint of brioche. Typical yeast component.
Palate: Good mouthfeel, not opulent. Flows down nicely. Good texture, mid-finish & bodied.

I like this very much - intense, with a berry and pomegranite fruit profile - very Pinot! Distinctive nose. Great mouthfeel. Nice acids and good integration. Definitely a wine for strong grilled fish...delicious!

Tasting with good frends. (@ MatH): No formal notes, but the wine did not live up to the expectations. Roses, cherries, a bit sweet and some bitterness.

BBQ at Matt and Francesca’s (Vancouver, BC): No formal notes. Perky nose with candied red berries with tart red berry fruit on the palate. Decent acidity with a slightly angular mousse. Perhaps a little too fruity for me. Good.

This bottle of Jose Dhondt rose was a wonderful bottle of champagne. It had excellent balance and had great fruitiness (strawberries and rhubard) without being sweet. The texture of this was also very silky and creamy. Just a wonderfull bottle of rose.

Agree with David Cooper's TN-- lots of red fruit, great acidity and finish, went beautifully with hors douvres (goat cheese). Nose a little reticent.

Neon pink color. Sweet aromas of strawberry and raspberry jam and cranberry sauce. I understand that rosés are mostly comprised of pinot grapes, but this wine REALLY tastes like a sparkling pinot noir. 87-88 points.
