A late disgorged magnum with a newer label. Judging label and cork I estimate this being released some 10-15 years ago. Dense, sweet with a subdued nose and lacking fruit and acidity. Disappointed after reading so many fantastic reviews of this wine.

Notes from memory late in the evening. Deep salmon and copper colour in the glass. Both sweet strawberry fruit and a more savoury character. Not as developed as toffee but has dark spice now. Still has some powdered sugar.

3rd time that I have seen this wine which has always made a big impression on me as long as the bottle is not defective. I was really impatient to find this wine that I had not tasted for at least 4 years.
Well… it didn't move, as I remember. A sweet effervescence, a nose of crazy elegance on red fruit jam ...
The palate is impressive. It's still fresh, with enough tension to give life to this beautiful juice, there are again and always those bitter oranges that mix with caramel, the whole becomes stewed on warming but without losing freshness. Vibrant raspberry finish with a salty touch that stretches out all the way.
A real delight, like a homemade sorbet that does not age.

Such a lovely treat out of a perfect magnum. Vinous and showing the generous 1990 vintage but this was still surprisingly young/fresh that it likely will get better for the next 2 decades.

My Birthday Weekend; 10/23/2020-10/25/2020 (Chicagoland IL): Good depth with both berry and orchard fruit character, slightly more earthy than great bottles I enjoyed 5-10 years ago, but still vibrant enough and very enjoyable. Time to drink up.

Jailbreak Wine Dinner - Krug 168, Ultramarine, MacDonald and etc. (Jailbreak Brewery, Laurel, MD): En magnum. Initially a hint of Madeira that blows off. Very vinous nose displaying sweet red fruit, strawberry jam, cherry compote, light caramel, rose, cooper, sweet spices, sous bois, grilled cep, and mineral. Fully integrated palate, nicely layered sweet red fruit, generous medium fine mousse, rich and deeply toned, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a long subtle sweet red fruit driven finish with grilled cep and cooper at the end. Perhaps slightly less fresh than the last magnum. Still very enjoyable.

A fun gathering at L'Auberge Chez Francois (L'Auberge Chez Francois, Great Falls, VA): En magnum, perfectly mature yet energetic vinous nose displaying sweet subtle red and yellow fruit, raspberry water, a hint of raspberry jam, a hint of kumquat, sous bois, light caramel, smoke, rose, sweet spices and mineral. Excellent concentration, finely layered subtle red and yellow fruit, generous fine mousse, very precise and detailed, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a seamless long sweet raspberry fruit driven finish with a hint of smoke and sous bois at the end. Drinking beautifully.

From magnum. Incredible bottle. So much class and sophistication. Just a hint of rose through the wine. Loads of freshness and verve. Great precision. Acidity was balanced and still plentiful. A real treat to drink. Have had great luck with some old Ruinart lately.

Poured from a magnum. This was bright and fresh and really felt like it could have been current vintage but for the just touch of maturity that came through in the flavors. Lots of wild strawberry. Very festive and light and fun. What a treat to get to try.

From magnum. Medium light red with some minor funk at the open. Blew off in 20 minutes. Almost a pure blanc de blanc as this is 80% Chardonnay. Really crisp and fresh. A very clean palate of light red berries, raspberries and strawberries. After 30 minutes in the glass the wine has a more creamy texture with hints of leather. A very fun experience from a format that certainly helped this bottle achieve greatness.

From magnum. A rich nose with good depth. Red cherry, slate and light spice on the backnose. A ripe palate with red fruits (red cherry and strawberry) and muscovado. A relative standout amongst '90 champagnes. Drink soon. 93-94

Magnum. Vibrant pink with intense effervescence. Intriguing and creamy nose of powdered sugar, strawberry ice cream, egg whites, and merengue. Electric and sharp on palate. Incredibly fresh with nice minerals throughout. Exotic and vibrant. Fantastic.

Quite intense at first with fine bubbles and nice cherry flavors but hints of oxidation and a slightly off-putting flavor keeps the finish from reaching further heights. Drying out some and probably past its best. 88-

Orange gold color. Slightly oxidated but still fresh. Aromas of nuts and green apple. Light bitter. Full bodied. Fresh, medium to long aftertaste with sufficient acidity. Quite a special glass of bubbles. Perhaps better combined with food than just as aperitiv.

Piedmont and Champagne (Østerbro): Toasted coffee and strawberry nose. Lots of yeast on the palate but also some strawberry and a huge acidity. A little banana and caramel is also coming through. A lovely wine but perhaps a bit short on the aftertaste.

Julie and I drank this from a magnum to celebrate our 15th anniversary. What an awesome wine. It began with a beautiful dark color that matched the Daniel Boloud salmon we were snacking on. The nose was subtle, with cranberry and cherry most notable. Quite full of bubbles, the first sip was downright delicious. This is as full and large as any Rose I have drunk... and I like it! It had a little bit of bight, but was fresh and juicy, and the red fruit and fruit skins came through rather large but in a Champagne way. Downright yummy, and this wine has years and years to go.

Quite deep coloured; Strong vegetal aromas on the nose, seems slightly madeirised/rancio; oxidative palate - I feel this is a bad bottle and with time there was marked improvement though a pristine bottle would be interesting to try. A shame. Still has interest.

Dom Ruinart Tasting (St Quentin, Knightsbridge): 83% CH, 17% PN (Verzenay and Verzy) From Magnum Not saignee Very pale peach colour Quite dumb nose Nice full bodied attack, much more rounded (less austere) than the BdB, I wonder is dosage is slightly higher (or chapitalised red wine used) Has a creamy feel, the first time the 100% malolactic has shown through. Good, but lacking complexity.
