Glorious Waterside Inn (The Waterside Inn, Bray): A great way to finish a beautiful lunch at The Waterside Inn, Bray and added that little richness and a bit of a sucrerie . Bright still albeit now moving into its secondary phase, entering the evolution of fruit. Soft apricot, light marmalade feel, still vibrant, lovely texture and richness but also with bright acidity. We are not sure where and how this evolves but for sure is delicious now and will continue to evolve. 92

Amber/gold. Medicinal aroma of plastic, iodine and lemon. This is so complex and like no other obvious fruit flavours. But hints of apricot, orange, sage, touch of ginger. Profoundly old, dusty, elegant Sémillon.

Amber color. Apricot, marmalade and honey. Medium body, nice acidity. Lacks power, but tonight that was a plus, this was fresh, with sweet fruit, and not cloying.

Nicely mature but with life ahead of it. Golden, somewhat brownish color. Ton of depth to the candied stone fruit flavors. Lovely acidity prevents it from being cloying, and gives it a nice zing. Long.

Deep straw in color with a golden hue. Nose of honey, ripe peaches, hints of autumnal spices and botrytis. Tastes of ripe peaches, honey, marzipan, nutmeg, and hint of cloves. Noticeable botrytis. Nice mouthfeel. Balanced, and youthful. Should peak in 3-5 years. Drink over the next 10+ years.

Amber honey colour. Nose somewhat simple, with honey, peach and tropical fruit. Good amount of botrytis. Fuller on the palate: candied almond, apricot, honey, touch of anise. Can stand up to sweet dessert or full on cheeses, at the cost of some complexity. That said, a very respectable showing and a success. Probably a few years ( but not many) to peak. Very enjoyable.

Fresh, spicy and floral, the wine is on the orange, tangerine and apricot side of the style range, instead of tropical fruits. There is ample honey and acidity, but the wine lacks the richness, fat and depth found in the best vintages here.

From a 375. Golden-orange, a bit darker than expected; nose is moderately aromatic, plenty of botrytis, baking spice, orange peel, orange marmalade; palate is richly textured, full bodied, medium-plus sweetness, but also a biting high acidity that fully balances the sweetness, dried mandarin oranges, orange peel, burnt orange, flavors persist through the lovely balanced midpalate; finish is medium length, high acid and clean. This is a great off-vintage Rieussec, not quite as dense as the more famous years, but it shows superb acidity and excellent balance as well as complex flavors throughout. This half was more advanced than my last 2 years ago, and it is already heading into early maturity. Ready now, and at any point over the next 5-10 years, but this is not a 40-year wine. 92-93+

(Blind tasting) Nice to revisit this wine... Full, deep nose with almost parodic chemical, botrytis nose. Saffron, oak and marmalade. Rich, but a bit one-dimensional. Complex, fullish, very sweet palate. Lacks a bit freshness. Very dense. Saffron, well developed and marmalade. Very glueish. And with more sweetness than acidic backbone. Thus lacking a bit persistence and elegance.

DTC 2016-01; Bordeaux 2006. (@ SS): Enormously concentrated bouquet with botrytis, apricots, orange peel, tangerine, ripe pineapple and even some almonds. Same on the palate. Beautiful balance between sweetness and acidity. Enormous length. A great wine with a great future.

Rieussec mini-vertical (Home): From a 375. Golden color, appropriate for its age; nose is overall subtle-medium intensity, has baking spice, some guava, pineapple, ripe tropical fruits; palate has full body, rich texture, youthful sweetness, vibrant lively acidity soon after it hits the palate that carries it through the wine, tropical white fruits, botrytis baking spice, towards the finish is morphs into a more secondary caramel and burnt orange and fades in flavor a tad; finish is medium-length with decent fruit but a little shorter than the rest of the wine would suggest. This is a classic youthful Rieussec: rich, dense, but great balance of fruit and fresh acidity, starting to knit together and develop hints of secondary character but still youthful. This one outperforms for an "off" vintage, though it lacks the intensity on the nose and the length through the midpalate and finish of the best vintages. 92-93 8/1/15: This is a bit more integrated, a bit more caramelized than when first opened. Still excellent acidity and richness on the palate, which is better than the nose. Excellent. 91-92 8/31/15: Over a month from when it was first opened. Color is similar; nose is still overall subtle but similar to when first opened; palate is richer, a bit more honey and caramel than I remember from a month ago but still vibrant and fresh. A fantastic showing especially considering it has been open for over a month. 93

From a 375. Light golden color; nose has good intensity, good botrytis with baking spices, white fruit; palate has full body, some youthful tropical fruit, fades through the midpalate a bit, nice balanced sweetness but richer style; finish is medium length. Still youthful, headed towards early notes of maturity, classic Rieussec style with good density and decent complexity, but lacks the persistence of the best vintages. 90-91 Day 2: Consistent with past note: just starting its transition from youth to teenage adolescence and made in a denser classic Rieussec style with slightly less persistence compared to better vintages. Still an excellent value for this off vintage and much better balanced than the 2004 Rieussec.

(from half) Already a bit amber colored. Not THE very big thing I hoped, but of course a very good drop :) Don't believe this has the same substantial aging potential as other Rieussec vintages. Must admit however, that I'm not a vinolog... Just a Sauternes-liker with restricted budget... I've decided not to fill my cellar though I have a very deep personal relation to 2006 and could get it at $55/bottle...

Honey / brandied color. Nose and palate show apricot, peaches, holiday eggnog with spiced rum, vanilla and a hint of coconut. There is a booziness that overshadows the mid palate and finish but it is otherwise very pleasing and smooth. Good / Very good - Drink now or hold.

From a 375. Golden to light orange color; nose of youthful tropical fruit, spice, integrating coconut and vanilla; palate is showing quite hot/alcoholic today, full bodied but light on its feet with great acidity, peach and white fruits on the midpalate; finish is medium length, sweet but balanced. This is in a rare intermediate awkward phase right now, still showing some signs of youth but not yet integrated well or showing more mature notes of age. Certainly more enjoyable when younger than today, but it shows potential for when it is mature (assuming the EtOH moderates itself). 90-91 Day 2: Well chilled today, versus yesterday when it was too warm. Showing more balance today (but still a tad high on EtOH). The palate has a bit of a honeyed character to it that it was missing yesterday. Dense. Nice. Day 3: Maybe even slightly better than yesterday in terms of balance. Certainly won't be a show-stopper, but very enjoyable. The evolution over the last few days makes me more certain that this was in an intermediate phase right now. Also, drink it slightly chilled (at the correct sauternes temperature).

San Diego WineSpectator.com Offline, 6/29/2012 (The University Club, San Diego): 375 ml. Clear light honey-gold color. Typical notes of apricot, honey, cotton candy. Also the familiar perfume of a local flower, which my friends, using their smart phones, identified for me as Brugmansia or Angel's trumpet, without necessarily agreeing with that comparison. Oily mouthfeel, with lower acidity than the 1997 d'Yquem tasted just prior. Of course that's a tough act to follow. Against the Yquem, there's no contest, but on its own merit, this is an outstanding wine that will improve and gain complexity for years or possibly decades.

This was a little better than expect with a great nose of apricot, honey, orange peel, and nice botrytis spice. On the palate, rich and full with honey, apricot, pineapple, caramel. Very young and fat, I would probably lean toward drinking this in its youth rather than aging. Great stuff.

Wine Tasting @ Marc's Apartment (Chicago, IL): I always love a nice bottle of sauternes after drinking a bunch of reds. Nice botrytis nose, with honey and a creme brulee. Nice citrus notes on the palate along with some honey, caramel and petrol notes as well. Medium plus finish. This wine is still very young and would benefit from more air exposure or years in the cellar. 92+ SS

Very pure botrytis with a slight sensation of marzipan. In the mouth very intense with some honey, burnt caramel and noticeable alcohol in the finish. Not as good as the 01 Rieussec last month, however there are resemblances. Probably consumed a few years too young though:)

Château Léoville Las Cases Back Vintage Dinner (Chambar Restaurant, Vancouver, BC): Bronze/copper in colour. Expressive nose of cantaloupe, candied orange peel, toasted nuts, toffee, and a touch of coffee bean. Rieussec Vertical (Vini di Domani, Eksel): Tasted after and compared with the 2005, this seems light and a little simple. Striking hints of lemon cheesecake! Medium bodied wine with a soft entry and obvious bitterness in the finish which should resolve in 3 years time. Not for long-distance cellaring. I would say: drink between 2015 and 2020. Fine. 16/20

(Old note) Young and a bit sturdy nose of oak, cocos, butter and botrytis in equal parts. A bit too oaky. And the apricot fruit and marmelade... Fat, fullish palate. Good acid, but not extremely so. Young and rough. Very oaky. Very full. Popcorn oak, white flowers, apricots, lime and botrytis. Has not come together. Tasted blind and compared with 1996 Rieussec and 1986 Rieussec, we came to the conclusion that really young Sauternes is tasty but lacking in complexity.

89-90. Nose has honey, golden raisins, sugary lemon creme brulee, marmalade and toasted brioche. In the mouth, butterscotch, caramel, creme brulee, almond paste, ground almonds. Very tasty, yes, but almost overly-syrupy and lacking complexity and balance due to limited acidity, and so I don't think this is one for the long haul.

Delicate nose with spicy tropical fruits. Palate is explosive with rich mango, citrus, and great balance/acidity. Better than the 2006 Suduiraut I tried a few weeks ago. My tongue is still tingling. Fantastic. An incredible bargain for $20.

Compared with the 06 Suduiraut, this is less intense and has less acidity. Instead of tropical fruits it does have a nice sense of creme brulee. In the end, this is not bad but I much prefer the Suduiraut.

Some More 2006 Bordeaux (K&L Wines, San Francisco): Light gold. Apricot fruit, little apparent botrytis. Not a heavyweight; in fact, it leaves one wanting a bit for concentration, but it does have nice spiciness in addition to the fruit. I prefer this to the '05 that I tasted last month since it comes across as having brighter acidity and less wood, but I don't think either one represents a high point for this estate.

Deep concentrated nose of honey, flowers, fruits. On the palate it only gets better. Honey, citrus, stone fruits and minerals amazingly integrated into a nectar of the gods. Getting better as time goes on. (Doris loved this wine)

Best bottle so far, sadly, it was my last bottle as well. Lovely honey nose, with deep and long fruity taste with balancing acidity. Fantastic wine, why people do not drink more Sauternes is a mystery!

Day 2: Well chilled today, versus yesterday when it was too warm.

92+ SS

Looks fat and rich with notes of apricot, honey and brown sugar. It is plump and a little loose in the mouth with low acidity. Not a brilliant Rieussec by any stretch of the imagination.

Nose of honey, raisins, lemon. On the palate, butterscotch, almond, lemon, honey. Almost over-syrupy and missing the balance of sufficient acidity.

Tasted alongside the '06 Ch Suduiraut.
Nice light, airy botrytis nose; apple, touch of banana(?). Biting acidic body, apple flavors along with a citrus oil note. I prefer this to the Suduiraut. This has an enticing "pop".

Very attractive and sweet with quite obvious botrytis, this bottle was surprisingly dark in it´s colour and may giva a hint that this is not for long term cellaring. Drinking well now!

(from demi)
Very pure botrytis with a slight sensation of marzipan. In the mouth very intense with some honey, burnt caramel and noticeable alcohol in the finish. Not as good as the 01 Rieussec last month, however there are resemblances.
Probably consumed a few years too young though:)

Fine. 16/20

Young and a bit sturdy nose of oak, cocos, butter and botrytis in equal parts.
