il gran finale del Barolo di compleanno (Osteria Langhe, Chicago IL): This was a real contrast to the champagne and was a perfect palate cleanser before the Nebbiolos. There is a real lively and fresh quality to the nose with tones of limes, lemon peels, green apples, white flowers, saline, crushed rocks, and some white fruits. The Medium bodied feel is balanced and on the leaner/lighter side with racy, high acidity. This is a fun and fresh Arneis that plays more in the white-fruited realm, though it lacks some depth.

A dry, tantalizing wine that is quite good, but not special. Pours to a light straw color with an ever so light tinge of green. Subdued nose but expressive notes on the palate - with hints of green apples, lemon, less than ripe melon, touch of butter, and riverbed stones. Medium+ bodied goodness, high acidity, and ends in a long finish. It is my first time trying the Arneis grape varietal from the area of Roero. It is has a feel that is not dissimilar to a Sauv Blac without the range of flavors of the latter. Quite dry to be drunk by itself, but pairs well with seafood and poultry. I had it with a chicken liver pasta dish that it complemented well. JS 92 pts are generous, but one invariably has to deduct 3 points from that stable, and then it sits better with consensus. For the sub $25 range, there are so many delicious white wine options, I would find it hard to go back to this wine for the sake of novelty of the grape varietal, which I think is what it primarily offers.

Italian Wine Scholar Class at the Texas Wine School. Pale lemon with a greenish hue. Med intensity aromas of white peach, ripe lemon, pineapple, white flowers and fresh herbs. All stainless steel. Dry, with med acidity, med (+) alcohol (13.5%) and a nice chalky minerality on the finish. Med to med (+) body, with med (+) flavor intensity and a med finish. One of the more expressive and more intense Arneis that I have tried. Drink now, not intended for aging, although Arneis typically does well for 3-4 years. Worth seeking out despite the slight price premium for the archetypal producer.

Quite honeyed and soft with apricot and pineapple fruit flavours which are softened with cream and butter but given a rather pleasing twist with an apricot kernel bite and a peppery finish. It’s a variety I don’t usually care for, but interestingly the producer blocks the malo and this has produced a much fresher and livelier style. CHP 89pts

This is just so much better than the Vietti Arneis, which I also really like Pear drop, white pepper, minerality, mid weight, extremely savoury palate that grows more savoury the longer this is opened It's unlike a white burgundy but was similar in the following way: complex and concentrated without being heavy

Pale gold colour. Lovely viscous legs. Nose is quite delicate, hints of bruised apple, stone fruit, possibly a hint of liquorice? All those flavours show through on the palate and show excellent persistence (not surprising given the legs). The acidity seems quite modest but that's not an issue for this wine, it seems appropriate to the style. The overall effect on the palate is quite subtle and I don't think I'd match this wine with anything too strongly flavoured. The length is impressive and perhaps better appreciated drunk unaccompanied. It doesn't really wow me but I think that's more about my taste than the quality of this particular wine.

Really great! NB: I had the vintage mislabeled as 2020 12/24/21: 2nd bottle. This is sooo good. Classy! On the 2015 level, if not better. Elegant but earthy at the same time. Crispness and flowers, character and gentleness. If you see it, go for it! 1/31/2022: Just as good. Note that it picks up weight and interest for about 30 min. Then it's really singing! 3/5/22: Mmmm....!

Greenish color, good mouthfeel at 13.5%ABV , crisp, fruity on the nose, mostly pear with some green apple, faint peach stone fruit, little mineral and unique sprite sensation , muted almond finish, would go well with fettuccine alfreddo.

Pale lemon color, peach blossom nose. Fruity residual sugar up front, minerality and stone fruit middle, with a delicious finish. Satisfying as an aperitif, but it’s got enough stuffing to pair well with food. The more I drink roero arneis the more I like this varietal.

Giacosa tasting at Knightsbridge Wine Shoppe (Chicago, IL): Not sure if this was just because of the warm weather outside and the cool crispness of this, but this was just outstanding. Clean and crisp with predominantly apple flavours. A hint of sweetness (or is it the fruit) makes this even more drinkable.

I never buy enough of this bottling and should just buy a case at a time. First time trying this vintage and was a great match a a jerk shrimp, summer veggies and wild rice salad. Crisp but full bodied white with lemon curd, tropical fruit and enough acidity to hold it all together. IMHO, this is a very high quality wine for a very fair price ($23).

Color: light gold Nose: wax and honey, baked apple, acacia flowers, very present mineral backbone Palate: medium-high acidity, medium-full body. Confirms the nose, adds peach notes, very intense and with pretty thick texture Finish: medium-long
Quick note from memory here alas, but had this in not the best conditions to write impressions down. I found this a more intense and yet more balanced rendition vs the 17, and loved it. This is so broad that it actually can take a good chill if one so prefers, but drinks great at room temp. Definitely can be put down for a bit but I personally didn't see a strong reason to

Wasn’t too impressed when I first opened this, but i recorked it and finished it on day two. It really blossomed.
Yellow fruit, touch of melon, creamy nougat on the nose. Palate features a ripe peach note followed by lemony acidity. Young herbs and melon rind followed by lemon cream on the finish. Much more precise and acid driven then the nose would lead you to believe. Finish is a little rich but acidity keeps it in balance.

Every bit as focused and nuanced as the 2017. On nose and palate: fresh yellow apple , hazelnut nougat, peach pit tartness , clean mineral notes and JUST the right amount of acidity....a wine that manages the neat trick of being crisp and refreshing , while displaying a solid medium body with some richness , while being bone dry....Bravo Giacosa.....Sea Bass and Salmon make good companions for this.....can age.
Hailing from Piedmont, a region better known for red wines, Arneis is a white grape that almost went extinct in the 60s. It used to be planted next to Nebbiolo vines as a sacrificial offering to draw predatory birds and insects away from more highly-prized Nebbiolo.
Thanks to the efforts of winemakers who recognize its qualities, Arneis has been brought back from the brink of extinction and is today enjoying renewed popularity.
The 2019 Giacosa Roero Arneis is a brilliant pale yellow color.
It displays heady and attractive aromas of elderflower, apricot and fresh lemon and lime. Medium-bodied in the mouth with generous flavors of hazelnut nougat, lemon curd, elderflower again, and a slight bitterness reminiscent of strong tea towards the back-palate. The finish is long and resonates with a chalky mineral note.
Thought this was lovely, with melon and pair tinged fruit, a honeyed quality and almost spritzy acidity. Haven't had this in a few vintages but it feels somewhat richer and more viscous than I recall. Really nice wine.

Light straw. Slight bubbles when first opened. Lemon zest and minerality with apricot. Extremely zingy acidity flows into a medium-plus body with a roundness of honey, then the finish has a lingering zest on the back of the palate. Love this grape for its contrast of acidity and body!

Drank by the glass at a restaurant. Loads of golden apples on the nose. Medium-light body with medium acid, with some pie crust joining the apples on the palate and a hint of minerality. This was my wife's glass so I only had a few sips but it was delicious and a stand-out for being by the glass.
