In a great place. Leather and red fruit on the nose. Very high acid (almost a trademark for this wine.) Rich red cherries, strawberries, sage, some earthy grittiness. Very long finish.

45 minute decant. Nose of red fruit, cotton candy, vanilla bean, lavender, and oak. Palate delivers layers of black cherry, black plum, watermelon, black peppercorn, dried rosemary and dusty earth with plenty of acidity. Thick, wide tannins with an iron note, dark fleshy fruit, and milk chocolate. Wine color darkened as it sat in the glass.

Surprisingly quite rustic and burly - not what I think of with Evangelho. Sultry black fruit, mineral and dried flowers, set in a frame of juicy acid and with a hint of mourvedre funk. Feels like it still needs more time. I think the conventional wisdom of this being an early drinker is wrong.

Much more fruit forward nose than the 2018 Ridge Evangelho I had alongside it. The same black cherry + orange peel core (what I think of as the Evangelho terroir) but fresher. Plum, sour cherry, nectarine. A little hot sand. M+ acid, m+ tannin, but very sandy supple. This is just lovely.

More in an elegant refined style. Shows a strong core fine red fruits interwoven with a dash of pepper spice. Finishes with a savory note mixed with the red fruits. Quite nice, though not a lot of depth at this stage.

Excellent accompaniment for goat curry and an assortment of spicy vegetables. More acidic than tannic, drinkable now, with a slightly disconcerting vegetable flavor (tomatoes, perhaps) that I hadn't noticed in previous bottles.

This is at the very front of its drinking window, but at this phase, it couldn’t be more purely delicious. It brings together the dark yet bright blackberry-plum-game character of Mourvèdre and the dusty, minerally carignan in a gorgeous, fruit-forward way with nuances of warm sand and cinnamon. Drink now for sheer pleasure or a ways down the road for a more complex experience.

An absolutely stunning bottle of elegance and structure. Gorgeous aromas of cinnamon, spice, and red fruit. Almost like the depth and flavor of a rich port but not sweet. Loads of rich soft tannins and finesse. Excellent and interesting wine!

Beautiful aromatics. We live within 25 miles of the vineyard and it really does smell of place with a strong note of dust and spice. Nicely ripe and with a good streak of acidity keeping things fresh. A bit short in the finish.

Sourced from own rooted vines planted in the 1890s. This is a blend of Zinfandel, Mataro and Carignan with small amounts of Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir, Mission, Palomino and even a single, ancient Clairette Blanche vine. Dark Crimson color. This was a well balanced wine that paired very well with the smoked bbq burnt ends. Notes of deep red fruit with tobacco, blackberry and cedar. 93 points.

The first thing I always note with a bottle of wine sourced from the Evangelho Vineyard is a sappy core. It drips the essence of the vines. This 2019 Bedrock Evangelho is a brighter, racier version that still has that sappy core, but the acidity cleans up every single drop. The core aromas and flavors are typical for the site, ranging from deep boysenberry to flashy cherry compote with lemon zest and rosemary. The difference from typical is that little jolt of electricity. It’s exciting even if it’s different.

14.5% abv. Medium ruby, very aromatic, perfumed. Cherries, rose petals, white pepper and a touch of mint. Excellent depth and length. This wine is so poised and well balanced. A delight now and should continue to improve over the next 6-8 years.

Opened, but didn't decant, for 45 minutes. Bright and crunchy, almost effervescent red fruit. Also a great deal of herbs and flowers. This wine had a medium plus body with ripe fruit, but also a lean texture. Cocoa tannins and a long finish.

This is a bit darker, richer and longer than the 2017 and 2018 versions. Decanted about an hour and it opened up nicely, showing all the classic sappy fruit the site’s known for. Boy did Bedrock nail these 2019s! 92-93

Not finding a Rhône wine to accompany dinner, I decided to check in on the 2019 Evanghelo from Bedrock. Young, but worth a look. The robe straddles the border between dark ruby and purple. The nose offers aromas of black tea, wild blackberry, leather, and a touch of gamy funk (I believe this was a strong Mourvèdre year). The palate is concentrated, but by no means, extracted. There’s an array of dark berry fruit, just ripe black plum, leather and mineral spice flavors enrobing ripe, leathery tannins and given a kick by fairly prominent acidity. There’s also a streak of graphite-like mineral character that I always associate with Evangelho, possibly Carignan(?) or some lenses of earth within those deep sands. This is tasty now, but the structure and balance makes me think a few years in the cellar would do it a world of good. Lovely with duck and turnips. Probably worth seeking out another few bottles.
Checking back in on this. Medium bodied with great acidity. Bright fruit, yet dark and savory on the back end. Bramble, cranberry, lime zest, anise, pepper. Still tight, but a pleasure to drink.

Good vintage for Evangelho, quite a lot in there. Starts with dense fruit leather, a nice nose of bright blood orange and red plums, with a lovely savory, cacao powder undertone. Opened into some tarter fruit and fine grain tannin, feeling much more of the mataro element I think, which means this vintage may need more age than usual. Always a fan.

Berry nose. Big acidity. Crunchy red fruits - cranberry/cherry, white pepper, cedar. A bit of a bitter finish. Not as complex as some of the other Bedrock Heritages. There’s a lot of big fruit and I think that turns some folks on, but I think time improves these a bit. Tannins emerge with air. Hold for a year or three.
Update: worse on day 2. Somewhat sour.

Wow...first thought was I’m drinking a Ridge Zin blend...similar style and price point. Dark, brambly fruit with lots of energy, juicy on the mid-palate, lingering finish. Count me as a new fan of this producer!

Unlike previous tasters I found this open for business after a half-hour in the decanter. With pure, crystalline red berry fruit, this is back to the essence of Evangelho for me after a couple of darker vintages. Medium-bodied, it has depth without a lot of weight, with violets and savory herbs sprinkled in with the vibrant fruit. What I love most is the bright acidity and energy, it compels another sip and defines this bottling for me.

Definitely need to decant if you are going to open now. Initially very tight, focused, red fruit. Great acid and solid tannin structure. By hour 3 it was shinning both on the nose and palate. Bramble, cherry, anise, pepper, some green savory herb notes. Score will likely be higher with some age.

not exactly a Pobega but pretty close. Dumb me: this is the only bottle I've got. Its definitely young, but already really accessible with just about 20 minutes in the glass, so not painfully so. Will it benefit from some bottle time? absolutely. but if you're smarter than me and you have multiples of these, its already more ready to go than the 2018 I think.
