Had this with teriyaki steak tips on the grill and it was magnificent. Immediate blueberry flavor. Blue and black fruit, very well organized. Very little secondary or tertiary flavors. This one's a keeper. Normally we decant cabs, especially young ones like this but we didn't have time but the tannins were smooth as silk.

Did a comparison tasting with the 2018 over the course of a meal with appropriate decanting and breathing beforehand. Both are well built delightful wines where the 2018 carries more tannin and grape while tilting less into the dark fruit and “boldness” of the 2019. Both wines are a success and the taster makes their choice on personal preference.

We enjoyed this bottle. Dark fruits, with a hint of mineral and spice. It is a big and dark wine with rounded and deep flavors. It does lean a little sweet.
Maybe we had lower expectations because other Hope labels have been a major disappointment. This lived up to its billing.
Agree with other reviews about this not being one to age.

Deep purple color. Great nose of dark berries, herbs, oak. On the palate, acidity is a little weak and cannot balance the high abv and some perceived sweetness. Very enjoyable now but not one for long term aging.

Pop and pour for Thanksgiving weekend. I have enjoyed the 2020, and I preferred it to this vintage.
A bit of a fruit bomb on this bottle with pie crust, blackberry, stewed dark fruit and vanilla. Subtle oak, but most prominent flavors were confectionery fruit.
Med+ bodied, very sweet, smooth and slightly flabby.
For the price, I would skip this in future, but still enjoyable depending on the mood. This is a well crafted wine, but not as much for my taste.

The sad part here is the fruit is actually good, right? But the glass staining, color & nose make it pretty obvious something else is added here - even the next day, the juice was exactly the same.
On the palate, you can tell the fruit was ripe - tannins are not noticeable. But the level of sweetness is off the chart - making other notes impossible to detect.
Could not finish.
I know they are not illegal - they are grape concentrates, after all....but why not admit Mega Purple or Ultravin 8000 was used? We will see more of this as the climate changes, folks.
Part of a blind tasting of "steakhouse wines." Paired with NY Strip steak, mushrooms, green beans, and smashed potatoes.
This worked very well with the food, though the extraction and alcohol was still evident. After the meal, I couldn't take another sip. Goopy, rich, extracted, residual sugar, high alcohol, chocolate oak everywhere. Not much structure either. The shame of this wine is you can actually tell this is decent fruit, but so incredibly ripened that any interesting character is all but gone.
Drink now if you want, I wouldn't. Maybe I'm being harsh but this is a generous 86.

Aired out for an hour or 2. Nose had extremely dark fruits like blackberry pie and almost prunes. Palate was very concentrated but goopy and heavy with little acid or tannin to hold it up. Even through the heavy body I was able to detect the etoh. I can see why some casual wine drinkers would enjoy this but it is just so very tiresome and not my style. Wouldn't pay the premium for this.

excellent flavor profile. Deep rich purple color, not overly jammy, but adequate spice and juiciness. hints of raisin and dark cherry, great legs, not overly tannin laced A really great value and maturity for a 2019

Def needs some time to open up: Opened the bottle 3 hrs ahead and stayed in decanter for another hr. Then we got the most delightful sugar bomb of the night: Just imagine pouring chocolate n vanilla syrups into some blackberry plum strawberry juice n that’s pretty much how it tasted - in a good way! Good QPR as well so perfect for some get together during wintertime.
We must have hit this particular bottle right as it reached its “sweet spot,” because this is one excellent wine. I used the Coravin to open it for one glass with a beautiful grilled prime ribeye (not our usual by any stretch of the imagination). The wine is deep, dense purple in color. Rich blackcurrant and plum aromas pour from the top of the glass. Black currant, plum, blackberry and black pepper flavors fill the mouth. The texture is lush, thick, and smooth. A lingering plum and pepper aftertaste just lengthens the pleasure.

Mellows out a lot and improves with air - so give it some time!
Deep inky purple color
Nose: Medium-intense ripe black currant and dark cherry with notes of lilac and fennel
Palate: Medium(+) bodied, medium(+) acid, medium(+) tannins, off dry, velvety texture. Medium intense flavors of black currant and candied cherry with hints of leather. Medium/medium(-) complexity, medium(+) balance, and a nice medium black cherry and slightly vanilla finish.
Bigger and ripe with velvety tannins and great balance. Would pair well with barbecued meats, IMO

Nose: eucalyptus, vanilla, sweet baked goods, new leather, fresh cut oak, and a lot of mint/menthol freshness. I really don’t get a ton of fruit, maybe like a strawberry rhubarb with sweet dark fruit pies, definitely more of a general baked fruit pie sweetness. I don’t think the other characteristics are overshadowed by the sweetness.
Pretty good tannin that isn’t overwhelming at all, just kind of pleasant. A little heavy bodied, very slightly syrupy, but the finish is long lasting and smoky. It is definitely sweet but it is dry enough and has enough finish to chew on: woody, smoky, peppered seasoning, etc so it is not too overwhelming.
The more it opens the more it tastes just slightly like a zin, over ripe fruit that is kind of sweet but with a little better tannin.
Very good wine, a little sweet for my preference, the more this opens the more it tends to taste and smell like a zin.

It's a fine crowd pleasing, easy drinking, quaffable cab. Its all purple fruit with no complexity. Some decent structure but too sweet to be balanced. Venge Silenceux is such a better wine at that price point.

Lush aromas the second i opened this wine and that carried through to powerful favors and a long finest. Not like your usual California Cab but one that I really enjoyed on its own merits.

Red blob of juicy candy wine. Not recognizable as a Cabernet Sauvignon. Could be a mixed blend of Zinfandel, Grenache, Syrah etc. Tasty without food. A one dimensional fruit bomb.

Dark, syrupy wine. Notes of purple fruit - elderberry comes to mind. We liked the 2015, but this 2019 is just too much of the sweet, YOUNG, blue/purple fruit. Too much.

Typical for a really great California style Cab Sauv... this one is bold with notes of cherries, dark berries but what sets this one apart is the "blueberry" component. Sweetness is moderate with lesser notes of chocolate & vanilla. There are some subtle tannins but this otherwise is a smooth wine and a great offering by Austin Hope Winery.

Drank over three days. Very nice with food, particularly red meat. But by itself a bit too sweet and jammy for my tastes. If I ordered this wine in a steakhouse, I would be pleased. If I bought this wine just to sip, I would have been disappointed.

As expected, a jammy fruit bomb. This was a gift and is not my style. That said, it’s well done for this style and I can see others enjoying it. This is an unbalanced style to begin with (all sweet with no tannins and only a touch of acidity), but as far as these go this one is actually a bit restrained because of the bit of freshness from the acidity keeping it from being too cloying. Something to share perhaps in a group setting or a dinner with people who aren’t wine fanatics as it is very approachable.

Ok, this is a wine for new world fans ( I mean REAL fans) and that could not care less about old world wines. This is a purple monster that is not sorry. This is the kind of wine that Molleydooker would do if they were making wine in California. Lot´s of blackberry, baking spices, christmas cake, cinnamon, heck...this is delicious! I am sure the wine is not mean for long cellaring, but I would wait 2 years or so to open the next wine. The wine is not for nerds, it is a wine for instant gratification without apologies. Loved the wine, kills Caymus.

Inky dark purple, bold nose with dark cherries, blackcurrant, blackberry jam and a touch of smoke and baking spice. Chewy tannins that recede softly with a medium acidity and a certain sweetness. On the palate, very fruit forward with dark cherries, jammy figs and molasses with some earthy dark potting soil and notes of wet hay. Nice medium long finish that leaves you with a hot feeling.
It worked beautifully with a paired grilled beef tenderloin!
So delicious with Italian food, Beecher's smoked cheddar, gruyère and beef. Well balanced, smooth with softened tannins. Lovely berry fruit forward. Thank you AH!

Deep, very dark reddish-purple in color, essentially opaque. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of dark fruits aromas of cherries, blackberries & dark cassis with overtones of earthy/dusty & some floral notes, anise, spices, cocoa/mocha, mint, herbs, minerals, oak & vanilla. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, plush almost jammy, ripe dark fruit flavors of cherries, boysenberries & plums with spices, some dark cocoa, minerals, oak & vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing (90 minutes) but will benefit & develop further with additional aging.

PNP. Nearly opaque magenta color. Blackberry, root beer float, French toast, and grape stems on the rich nose. Dry, velvety palate, with good acidity. Firm, full tannins on the longish finish.
Amazing for the price point. I’m ashamed about how much I enjoyed this glass at the Tommy Bahama Restaurant in The Woodlands. It’s like admitting I like Taylor Swift. ;)
I agree with pretty much all the tasting notes written by others. If you like a jammy wine that is sweeter than a traditional cab, and is fruit forward with red and dark fruit dominant, with limited complexity beyond that, this is your wine. A good budget alternative to Caymus. If you prefer a more traditional cab, a dryer cab, or a cab that has a lot of complexity with fruit being a secondary or tertiary characteristic, then you won’t like this.

Following the last of a Rudius Kaley Elizabeth, this was a sweet, gutless cocktail wine. As the memory of the Rudius passed and the sweetness tempered itself with air, the Austin Hope was OK at $30 but barely. We'll see what time does to my other 2 bottles.

Color: Deep, dark plum, opaque, almost inkly. Clear-rose meniscus. Very substantial nose of vanilla, with some menthol, orange peel and faint black pepper. Palate: vanilla and more vanilla, some tobacco, very high brix and almost nonexistent grip/tannins. Flabby. Agree with the reviewer that said this is more of a dessert wine.

Typical cali cab fruit bomb for those who like those types of wine. Big fruit, blueberry jam, vanilla, cola. Not my taste preference but a few in the crowd enjoyed it. Obviously this wine is too young to drink now but regardless, it will stay a cali cab fruit bomb. For those who like Caymus style wines, this is likely going to be up your alley. We drank it at a friend's house. He decanted it (not sure for how long though). Other wines that we had in the same evening: 2005 Casanova di Neri Brunello, 2016 Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova (also a bit young). There was also a 2015 Barolo in the mix but I do not recall which one. I preferred all of the Italians to the Austin Hope. I had a glass of the Austin Hope and that's about all I could have of it (too sweet, too fruit forward, too much oak and vanilla for me).

As the price creeps down on this wine (closer to $30) so does the quality:( Full bodied with heavy extraction, glossy sweet fruit, polished tannins, relatively low acid and a good bit of residual sugar. I've had a couple other vintages and this one seems unfortunately less layered and more confected to me.

The classic ruby color of this wine is stunning and sets the stage for this robust Cabernet Sauvignon. On the nose, aromas of tobacco, dark chocolate shavings, fresh black currant hints of savory notes. On the palate, layers of vanilla, coco powder, juicy cherry, baking spices and signature tobacco create a full body wine that is balanced by a splash of fresh acid and round, refined tannins.

I guess that I am different than most if not all previous tasters. I had never heard of this vineyard. I bought it in Boston because I generally love the fruit of Paso wines. I took a chance. I was absolutely shocked when I opened and smelled it. The fruit just exploded out of the bottle. I would not usually expect that so early. After all it is a 2019 vintage. The fruits were black and red and blue. They covered the beautiful tannins. So I can understand why some people thought there were no tannins. The mouthfeel was like liquid velvet. The finish went on for more than a minute. I would love to serve this to people blind and not tell them anything about what it is. At least till they drank it for an hour or so. I bet during that time I could convince them that it is a $150.00 bottle. Later that night and the next day other nuances emerged, Like very pleasant leather and slight smoky qualities. From the same bottle, which we did not finish on the first evening. As you can tell I love this wine. BYW I bought a case.

I liked it, but feel the same way as the last time I tried (the 2017)- it's just overpriced for what it is. It's the same price as My Favorite Neighbor at Costco now across the country, and in my opinion the MFN (same area, same general style) blows it out of the water at every level. I'm more of an old-world wine guy who values acidity and complexity, but sometimes I need something really rich and monolithic. This was that, but not executed as well as others.
The 2017 felt more shy to me, very little fruit with a lot of heat and oak, then showing more fruit and structure on the palate with so-so results. This time, the nose is chock-full with fruit- but in my opinion it's not really "rich" or exciting; much too jammy. Buckets of fun, sure, like strawberry shortcake and maybe baked red plum, little bits of leather, vanilla, and sugar cookie- but it smells soooo damn SWEET without the depth or darkness to back it up, if that makes sense. Palate is even a little more disappointing for the price point; I know it's not meant to be acid-driven, but there's simply too little here to work, and the tannins are practically absent, making it feel far too soft and...ugh..."smooth". The idea of aging this for anything more than a few years seems silly to me. It's meant to be drunk young- expressive right out of the gate, pre-softened and enjoyable. If it was $30, I'd definitely go for it semi-regularly. It's sweet, a little goofy, but not so cloying that it's gross; just one-dimensional. An amazing choice to serve to sweet wine drinkers who are curious to make the leap to dry wines. At $50+, it's not what I'm looking for.

Medium purple with a lighter lighter sides.

TASTING NOTES –
