This is such a great wine. Still crystalline in the mid-palate with more on the cherry showing now with mineral in the finish. So balanced with a perfectly round medium body yet so clean on the finish. Has been in about the same "pretty" place for over 5 years now.

3rd of 6, opened 2.5 hours, decanted 45 minutes, perfect cork and level, now fully ready, showing more mineral with extra hint of cranberry than last bottle in June 18, excellent refreshing acidity, hint of underlying unresolved tannin, harmonious, very Annie, good life ahead. VF (18.5).

TNs: Female Burgundy Winemakers Dinner (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): This was very nice - the best and most enjoyable of a trio from Clos Vougeot tonight. It had a great nose - dark berries shading into cherry liquor aromas, earth and mineral, spice and perfumed violets. A noticeably ripe, but still rather controlled bouquet. Nice. The palate echoed the nose nicely, with dark cherries touched with savoury notes of earth and meat, herb and bramble, moving into gently structured finish of fine velvety tannins and juicy acidity wrapped around a core of dark fruit and spice. Quite Vosne-like CdV I thought. Delicious stuff, drinking nicely now.

Brief notes of Christmas wines with John: Brief note. Served non-blind. An attractive bouquet of red cherries, raspberries, cassis and wet slate. On palate, I initially doubted the weight and volume here. With time I decided it did have sufficient stuffing. At its core, quite austere and strict. Very 2001. Crunchy red berry fruit, including a dash of cranberry. Acids present but not over-prominent. Tannins integrated. In its drinking window. Very good, if you like this sort of style (which I do, very much).

Not sure this was a well stored bottle. Color was brownish and this wine should not be that aged yet. Advanced flavors. Not spoiled but not what this should be.

2nd of 6, decanted an hour, perfect cork and level, now in early drinking widow, brown rimmed, very classy fruit, mostly black but hint of raspberry, earth and sous bois, velvety and very classy, notably long, persistent and complex. VF (18.5).

Has an almost crystalline characteristic to it. Black raspberry & cherry fruit, but so soft and silky at this point, and with the incredible structure from the mid-palate through the finish it comes across so balanced. Usually I'd want to save a bit for a second night to see where it was headed, but this was just plain too delicious not to finish. I imagine it will continue for quite a while, but in a wonderful place right now.

1st of 6, opened 30 minutes not decanted, drunk over 2 nights - medium red, little development; red fruit, strawberries, pure, some earth and spice note, whiff of rot at tail which blew off by second day; medium bodied, long and involving, precise, strawberry fruit, grip, better on second night, still needs time. At least fine (17.5/20).

This wine needed time to open up. Brief note..red fruits and quite oaky. The nose was a bit tight and the oak did not really integrate on the palate. I would think a 1-2 hour decanting will help the wine.

Wines tasted at Eriks vinbar (Eriks vinbar, Stockholm): Somewhat pale colour at the edge. Nose with mature strawberries and some cherries with a slightly herbaceous note, spices with some oak barrel feeling. As it was sitting in the glass, more flowery notes emerged, but that took some time. Palate with ripe strawberries, some cherries, pronounced stony and chalky minerality and a noticeable acidity, some spice tones and some tannins. Definitely a Clos de Vougeot on the elegant side. Comes across as more or less fully developed, 91 p.

Dinner at Mike and Cathy's place in 2013: Tasted blind at dinner with barbecued beef and truffles. A lifted character on the nose, with some dustiness. Also, vibrant red fruit and cassis. On the palate, great concentration and focus. More freshness and crystalline and less sweetness and alcohol than the 2003 red Burgundies we had on the night. Good mid palate weight, complexity and length. I did not see the over-oaking some tasters suggest in earlier reviews. A lovely, balanced wine, drinking very well right now.

Zachys La Paulee Auction, Day One (Smith & Wollensky - New York NY): Open approx 2 hours before poured. Perfumed and spice-driven aromas with ripe red cherry and strawberry. Palate was far less interesting, and slightly too ripe and disjointed to start, even with a more balanced, spice-driven finish. Another couple of hours of air helped, giving the wine better overall balance and textures.

Tørre tanniner i avslutningen

Seems really over-oaked to me. Saturated. Very expressive nose, and some nice fruit and minerality below the surface, but the surface is too "modern" for my taste.

Premier & Grand Cru Chablis (Willamette Wine Storage): End of the evening wine, so no detailed notes on this. The aromas were a bit intense, with crazy spiced oak, a huge pine aroma, with a burnt clove streak running deep. Really pleasing, grippy, tart palate and nice finish... very long. After reading the Allen Meadows note, I think he nailed it exactly.

No formal notes. Drank at Sam Woo offline. Popped at restaurant and sat for about an hour while drinking whites and bubbles. When I finally got around to a taste, tight as nails. Not really giving much. Nose of fresh berries, medium color. About a third of the bottle left at end of the night, so I corked it and took it home.
What a difference a day makes. Next night, opened up nicely. Lighter color than I remember, but it could have been the restaurant lighting. More opulent fruit on the nose and long delicious finish. Give it lots of air if you're thinking about opening one or cellar for 5 more years. Glad I have another one.

Gros Family "Reunion" with Richebourg and Clos Vougeot++ (Boka - Chicago IL): Tasted single blind in a flight of "Gros family" 2001s. Perfumed nose with red fruit and charming spice plus a bit of noticeable oak. Fresh red cherry and strawberry with good spice. Nicely balanced and charming, even if not particularly complex or nuanced.

Incredibly young right now, but already so delicious with a core of bright black cherry and currant fruit accented by faint spicy and earthy notes and the oak quite subtle and nicely woven into the background. There's plenty of structure lurking underneath; grainy tannins and good acidity that keeps the flavours nice and fresh - lots of time ahead here, though it was hard to stop drinking this (or even just smelling it) after about an hour of air.

The clear WOTN. Deep, dense, complex, rich, intense, integrated, etc. You name it this wine delivers it. One of the best wines I have ever had from this site and it has always delivered. This is a big wine but it comes off as being discreet and nuanced to a fault at the same time. So incredibly delicious and tasty right now it is hard to imagine another level for this wine however it is youthful and sappy so the best may very well be yet to come.

Pink red. Muted nose of primary pinot. Very nice palate of deep fruit and some wood. Good grip. Tremendous length. Very pleasant now but probably better in a few years. Potemtial for significant improvement.
