  • If I were blinded on this I would have guessed Sauvignon Blanc. The aromatics are so herbaceous and tropical. It's delicious but it's fucking out for blood with how acidic it is right now. I drank over the course of four days and it didn't start to settle down until the 4th. I'm inclined to let the rest of my case sit for 5 years just to calm down a little.

  • 92 Estupendo y jovencísimo. Amarillo pálido verdoso. Nariz predominantemente mineral, con algo de hidrocarburo. En boca empieza su recorrido, notas de caramelo de miel y limón, muy cítrico. Acidez importante y mucha estructura. Preciso, goloso. Hay que darle aún muchos años. Promesa de vino excepcional.

  • One of my favorite wines in the tasting.
Beautiful nose with intense mineral and citrus fruit.
Nice texture but with sufficient acidity to provide tension.
    Long, fairly tart finish.
    Sure to improve still

  • Lovely VdF, but needing some real time to shine. It’s lightly painful to drink now, there is so much stuffing. A truckload of minerals, with live wire acidity. Fruits run in the lime and green apple end, with some golden raisin lurking deep in the shadows. Theres just incredible balance and the structure is so lightweight, like the liquid version of the Zalto glass.

  • To borrow the title of a beloved Funkadelic album this is Standing on the Verge of Getting It On. It is still a tightly wound ball of yarn nearly at the point of beginning to unfurl. This bottle was enjoyable if not fully giving after a 24-hr decant. Enjoyed out of Zalto universal stems. Dense technicolour minerality, a bit of TDN petrol, buttressed by zinging acid. While it made an excellent pairing for Melissa Clark's cabbage & onion torta with speck, I will be sitting on my remaining bottles for a few more years.

  • Drank over three days. Pale straw in the glass. Opens up with petroleum jelly, a bitter element akin to grapefruit pith, underripe peach and nectarine, lemon balm, lime blossom, a touch of petrichor, and a feint hint of white pepper. Superb energy and tension in youth yet this will undoubtedly blossom into something more profound in the coming years. As for the precent it’s steely, liner, focused, pure, and precise.

  • Young and clenched. There were two very different sides to this wine. The most dominate one was linear and pointed, with very acidic citrus most reminiscent of fresh squeezed grapefruit. The other was one of breadth, featuring ripe pear (most notably on the nose), and some velvety texture that air coaxed out only sparingly. One day on the aging curve when the latter side shows as much prominence as the former it will be a beautiful thing.

  • Shiny pale yellow with green tint. Citrus, green apple, honeysuckle, and minerality. Fresh and vibrant. Clean finish.

While this bottle tasted very good, Keller's Grosses Gewachs are 10x better.

  • Pale golden color, nose is tart and exotic, with notes of river stone and quince. Crisp and searing on the palate, more exotic fruits follow - pineapple, key lime, faint lychee. Limestone minerals are felt on the back end. It’s refreshing and soulful, but will take a long time to mature, I think.

  • not blind
A phantastic Riesling for small money. Better than 90% of the Grand Cru Rieslings. Very dense and saline. 93-94

  • Aromas of stonefruit and citrus immediately upon pouring. Wisps of petrol
Nice zippiness on the palate, and a pleasant creaminess. Lemon and key lime.
It is lacking punch in the mid-palate, and as a result, feels a little thin. A slight disappointment. Needs time.

  • So tight, so linear! Needs time or rich foods to accompany it.

  • Petroleum and mineral nose. First sip is a pleasant mouthful of gasoline, salinity, minerality, pear and peach with razor sharp acidity. Absolute delight.

  • First bottle from a half case purchased from a German merchant in 2021. Interesting comparison with the 2019 tasted yesterday and today. Structurally and stylistically the wines are pretty close to each other, crystalline and linear, with the 2020 being creamier on the palate and the 2019 more taut. The aromatic expressions are quite different however, the 2019 does not offer much on the nose (initially at least), whereas this 2020 is much more immediate, with a lovely complexity (apple, pear, lemon, grapefruit, flowers and mint), and a lovely salty note on the finish. It will be interesting to compare and contrast these two wines over the next (5-10) years.

  • Beautiful stuff. Aromas of sea breeze, diverse citrus, yellow apple, crunchy green pear, fresh herbs, a little honeysuckle and green melon. Juicy and fresh on the palate, great interplay of silky and chalky textures, delicate herbal inner perfume. Bone dry but easy-going, not a tough trocken, rather so very balanced and perfectly ripe. Long on juicy citrus, subtle herb and flower notes, and engaging chalky grip... but that citrus, wow! Surely worth following 5 to 10, probably longer.

  • Lime peel and minerals. Great acidity. Structured and coiled. This is pretty reticent at the moment. I found a 19 much more demonstrative recently. Would suggest to put these away for a long while.

  • 6/7-22 (20-årgangen)
Lukt: mineralsk, grønne epler, gummi, bildekk, litt petroleum, urter
Smak: ung, frisk, god konsentrasjon. Eplesødme, relativt lang, 8/12 syre

  • Well made, with citrus and pineapple notes on the nose and palate. Longish finish. Opened up more on the second day.

Doubt I'd spend $50 on this again, though, as there are plenty of rieslings I enjoy young as much as this that cost less.

  • On the nose, green herbs, citrus. On the palate, green fruit balanced with salinity and citrus. Chewy, medium bodied dry riesling. As it warmed up from fridge temp, the expressiveness of the green fruit increased quite a bit, much juicier, as did the minerality. Tonight this paired well with cod, edamame, in a thai red curry sauce.

I appreciate the craftsmanship (well made, by a renowned producer in a good vintage), but is this overpriced? For this price ($50) in NJ, I prefer Dönnhoff GGs! 90/91

  • Riesling Study 011 (Pizzeria Beddia): Shared at #rieslingstudy011
This just had a brilliant nose that makes you see wet rocks and gasoline. On the mouth it was extremely clean and concentrated white fruits, but felt a tiny bit subdued compared to the smell. I think after a long nap this would be ridiculous.

  • Way too young at the moment, in a muted phase? Shows a good structure, salty minerality, lemon zest. More developed on day two.
Will wait at least 2-3 years for the next bottle. Potential for 92+

  • Delayed note but this was divine, I cannot wait to see what 8 to 10 years can do to this beauty.

  • A firmly mineral-driven wine with some fresh lime, but absolutely a savory wine.

High acid with an intense and long finish.

This really meets expectations. I haven’t had a lot of Rieslings, or wines in general that have displayed such intense minerality. Maybe one day I’ll try a GG bottling...

  • I was very excited to open my first bottle of 2020 Keller von der Fels. This is the 20th anniversary wine for Klaus Peter and Julia and one that I had heard was a special wine.
This certainly had the feel of a serious wine, not to say that earlier versions of this bottling were not serious, but this seems to have an extra gear.
This wine took me on a ride, the palate was initially so saturated with ripe fruit notes. Piquant white nectarines and juicy Asian pears led by incredibly high extract gave this wine some serious body. With about 2 hours of air the extract remained, but the entire character of the wine shifted. The fruit went to lemons and the body became super racy as the acidity came on like a freight train. It wasn’t all electricity though, there was fantastically chalky minerality and a beautiful fluttering of florality.
Make no mistake, if this wasn’t a blend of sites, this would be a GG. A very good GG.
This was quite young and you will need to be patient with this wine. There is so much there and the future is very exciting.

  • Nice nose with notes of minerals, guava, lemon, and peach. Great acidity with more peach, saline notes, lemon, and chalk on the palate. Good finish. A really nice young Riesling that shows quite well already. 93+

  • Crushed rocks, minerality, citrus fruit, with a lively energy. Palate shows a restrained orchard fruit note, that hopefully will gain with time. Great stuff.

  • Way too early to be drinking this, but boy is it delicious. Minerals, rocks, and a strong citrus note on the delicious finish.

  • Consumed next to a 2020 Falkenstein spatlese trocken. Both were PnP and showed well. The Keller was (believe it or not), the more mellow of the two. I cheated and read the notes here before tasting, and you do get that lovely soil to glass transfer. This bottle had minimal petrol, fabulously clean acidity, ripe pear, honey water, green apple, all with great amplitude on the palate. No perception of RS in this vintage. I thought it was fabulous but most tasters preferred the Falkenstein

  • Youngest wine of the tasting and as such hard for me to process beyond the obvious and admirable minerality, yet there's this sense of greatness coming.

  • Pale lemon colour. Medium nose with green apples, lime, flint, elderflower and hints of petroleum. Medium tree of green apples, lime, flint, wet stone and white peach. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. A very good Riesling with good minerality and complexity. Tasted from a Jeroboam. Needed an hour to open. Drink now or over the next ten years. Goes well with fish, shellfish or sushi.

  • Who replaced the Riesling in my bottle with pulverized rocks?

  • Certainly very good as I have experienced before with VdF but I am not able to jump up fully on the hype train. Nice seashelly minerality, heaps of citrus, huge acidity and tiniest bit of residual sugar it is that fruit maturity? There are other rieslings as good as this for as much or less money, and with more ready availability. But yes, not exactly unhappy that I have two more because this vintage especially seems to have more up its sleeve.

  • The iron core of planet Earth has been channeled into a glass of Riesling. It's immutable, immovable, and impressive by dint of its own inner weight. I won't say that there is a lot of pleasure to be had, as iron is stern. That said there will be evolution over the course of years, and an unfolding of the layers that are bound together by the dint of sheer gravity.

  • Holy fluckskittles, is this good. Soil-to-glass transfer of a riesling that makes you feel like you're on your hands and knees licking pure limestone. The cleansing sensation the instant it hits your mouth is equally transfiguring. It's like a spa treatment for the palate, fancy aromatized salts on a base of pale, white-peachy, lemon-zesty fruit, crunchy but not so aggressively acidic as the GGs can be.

  • Very good, with a bit less acidity than the 2019, but similar density. Will bury the rest for quite a while.

  • This is so incredibly young. Initially a bit tropical fruit profile. Passion fruit, pineapple and citrus and felt a bit softer than the 2019.

After about an hour of air it started hitting its strides more. Gaining more depth, texture and nuance of flavours. Asian pear, grapefruit pith, peach; followed by bright fresh green herbs, pennyroyal, yarrow, lemongrass.

Really mineral texture as if sucking on smooth river stones and an acid driven finish that lingers on, almost leaving a canker sore on the tip of the tongue. It needs times, but it feels much more chiselled and nuanced than the 2019.

Supposedly KPK blended in two barrels of Abtserde and 1 barrel each of Morstein, Kirchspiel and Hubacker into this year's von der Fels

Saved a glass for lunch the next day. Served cold, it opened with much of the same tropical notes as day 1 albeit a bit ampler and more polished. The cold does so much to hide the structure of this wine. As it warmed up the citrus and herbal notes pulled into focus. I think I will revisit this in about 5 years or so.

    ABV: 12.5%
    Closure: natural cork
    Decant: 2.5h
    Stem: Gabriel Glas StandArt

  • Wanted to give this an early test drive and enjoyed on a scorching hot day out in Cotswolds

Obviously very young at this stage, barely off the plane / truck from Germany. It already speaks to lovely things though with a nose and palate of ripe pear, custard apple, a youthful really zingy green acidity (if acidity can have colour) and a long long finish

This has the components to be really great and is a good QPR - even despite the Brexit induced import hassle

  • First bottle of this, has a bit of heft than the 2019 at the same time, contrary to the general vintage styles, a more powerful blend in this anniversary year maybe, a really fine driven mineral style, light orchard fruits and so drinkable despite the increased power, as always punches above its weight, even moreso this time.
