  • Late night at home with J. 1 day old bottle. Tasted blind. Drank in Gabriel Standart. The story, the wine, the history. Poignant that I enjoyed the read of "Godforsaken Grapes" recently.
Appearance is slightly cloudy, pale intensity, lemon colour. Thin legs.
Nose medium intensity, with aromas of apple cider, sour lemon, yeasty lees, hint of alpine flowers. Developing.
On the palate, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12%), medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of intense sour lemon, apple cider, quince, skin contact lees, sweet refreshing alpine flower juice, minerality. Long zippy acidic finish.
Very good quality. Refreshing invigorating wine that feels so unique. Feels like it might age well too.

  • It was great to have tried Eponyme, as sad as the story behind it may be. Very pure, mineral, some citrus and yeasty notes, fresh acidity. Very cool wine.

  • Pale yellow, medium+ intensity with lemon, elderflower, pineapple, minerality, slightly oxidative, grassy. Medium+ acidity, very long finish. 92+

Normally I’m not having great analogies while drinking a wine, but this felt like a fresh spring mountain stream with a unparalleled clarity.

The story behing this vintage is actually quite sad; the 2020 vintage has been made by Ganevat because the winemaker Dominique Belluart took his life.

Only 22ha worldwide planted with Gringet…

  • 1st of 2 bottles. No formal TN, this was a nice wine.

  • The Eponyme has a sad story but I suppose that adds to the poignancy of the wine. The first one I’ve actually opened and therefore my first time tasting Gringet. Verbena and elderflower. Slight effervescence and a light touch of VA, perhaps unsurprising since the wine was made by Ganevat after the original proprietor’s (the eponymous Belluard) untimely passing. Interestingly felt quite ferric (as opposed to the salty/chalky feeling from limestone), unsure if that’s anything to do with the terroir. Excellent balance of concentration with tension and persistent without losing energy. A great wine in its own right.

  • Resto saint Nicolas at megeve, Friday evening. Chef worked at le 1920 before and this is sophisticated food - highly recommended if you pass by megeve. Pairing with the first 2 starters - saint Jacques and a soup. Medium gold color. Nose reminds me of a savignin / vin jaune but with more fruit like sweet apples and pineapple. Med acidity, med body, med alcohol, med flavor intensity, med finish. Minerality, orange, sweet apple, pineapple, oxidative note, lingering salinity. Excellent 👌

  • Young and primary, a clear yeasty/sponti type signature, beautiful fruit, flowers and herbs as well. Textured and fresh, crunchy fruit and zippy acids. Lovely wine, but probably needs 5+ years to really show its powers.

  • Shiny yellow gold with green tint. Ginger, ginger bread, mint, apricot, honeycomb, probiotic yogurt, red apple, salinity and minerality. High acidity, restrained fruits. Fresh, crisp, complex and elegant. Long ginger-apple finish.

I believe this would go very well with a charcuterie board or simply cheese and crackers. I personally prefer the sparkling version of this gringet.

  • Reduced at first, but blew off. A little low acid, but not flabby. Manages a little weight pretty well with nice citrus feel.

Third day open, this really got going. Lemon curd and mineral with a little rustic tropical bend.

  • @ Noble Rot Lamb's Conduit Street (London, UK).

A new varietal for me. Delicious alpine wine. Citrus, apple, spiced pear, quince, mineral. Gentle on the palate with lingering good+ acidity.

  • Bottle at Frenchette. Very pleasant springbrook and lemon with electrifying acidity. The somm recounted the very sad story of aguesia leading to despair, and got a bit choked up in the process.

  • Maybe my third of fourth bottle of this. Very
Solid but make sure to serve cold. This was served chilled but not as cold as I prefer.

  • My second bottle of Eponyme and...as long as you don't pay a lot...is a super nice bottle of gringet. not life changing and not a replacement for le feu (or ganevat for that matter) but for ~$40, this is a delicious bottle of unfiltered, citrus-y alpine wine.

  • Nose reminds me of new school chenin. Enjoying the palate quite a bit, which is full of citrus and minerality. Still feels like a very young wine, I think this will definitely improve over the next 5 years if you have the patience.

  • Beautiful fresh mountain wine. Apples, flowers and citrus. Sad story about losing this great winemaker

  • Nice nose of apples, citrus, a bit of VA, and a hint of flowers. Nice acidity with more citrus and lemon flavors, green apple, a slightly riper yellow fruit note, and more minerals. Good length. This is very pretty and easy to drink but with good depth.

  • Needed 45 minutes in a decanter to open up. Our last glass was the best. Reductive alpine gringet, some tastes of citrus fruit, crisp and enjoyable with some seafood at one of our favorite wine bars. This only impresses once it unfurls and opens up.

  • Still an easy drinker. Sweet and sour apple, with herbal/floral after notes in mouth. Nice refreshing pour on a hot (35c) day in Clermont

  • For the 2020 vintage, there is only one Belluard Gringet - this Eponyme. This is due to Dominique Belluard's untimely death in 2021 - the wines from the previous year were not bottled yet, so Belluard's friend Jean-François Ganevat took care of the unfinished wines. Instead of several different bottlings, Ganevat put all 2020 Gringet into this Eponyme bottling. 100% biodynamically farmed Gringet, fermented spontaneously, aged for approximately 12 months in concrete tanks. 12% alcohol.

Pale and slightly hazy yellow color with faint neon-green highlights. At first the nose feels somewhat reductive and even a bit skunky with aromas of flatulent reduction and pickle juice. However, the nose clears slowly, opening to reveal wonderfully fragrant - even slightly tropical - aromas of apricots, some apple jam, a little bit of fresh pineapple, light sappy herbal tones and a fragrant hint of nashi pear. The wine is ripe yet fresh, lively and wonderfully Alpine on the palate with a rather light body and bright flavors of fresh red apple, some mineral notes of wet stones, a little bit of sappy herbal character, light saline nuances, sweet hints of greengage and ripe pear and a faint, tangy touch of acetic sharpness. The high acidity lends great, nervy intensity to the wine. The finish is lively, crisp and crunchy with long, mouth-cleansing flavors of tart green apples and some almost unripe pear, a little bit of sappy herbal character, light stony mineral nuances and a hint of sweeter, more tropical fruit.

A very pure, clean and mineral Gringet that really shows the spry, zippy and very Alpine quality typical of Belluard's white wines. Unlike the other Gringets that I've tasted, which have been just very brisk, lean and just barely ripe, this 2020 vintage seemed to have imbued some sweeter, even slightly tropical character to the fruit department, giving a bit of richness and sense of breadth to this wine, without making it feel any weightier than usual. A very lovely and wonderfully bright white wine and truly a great celebration of Dominique Belluard's life and the exceptional work he did to promote Gringet. Recommended - although I also recommend to aerate the wine for an hour or two, just to let the reduction blow off, if opening the bottle this soon and not with some bottle age. However, seeing how this is the final vintage which Belluard made (at least for the larger part), I encourage to keep any remaining bottles for any special occasions - this will easily last for at least 8-10 years more. Priced according to its quality at 32€.

  • Easy drinking and floral gringuet. Well made, hurriedly blended by Ganevat given the passing of Belluard

  • Pure Spirits 1st grand tasting (George Lycabetus Hotel): Aggressive nose, very “natural”, a bit flander rouge beer notes, brett infused, reductive
Palate the same, lime, citrus, lees, high acidity, again sour beer notes but more on the lambic/gueuze side now, medium body and finish

  • Beautifully light but with a density of midpalate and finish. Cristalised fruit, quince and light pear. Lovely.
