Potent, modern, powerful, bright. Would be rather anonymous but there is an interesting streak of iron and licorice to add interest. No fatigue, will go on nicely.

It’s at the beginning of its prime drinking window which should last for over a decade. Great blue and black fruits, tobacco, oak chips, <insert more oak descriptors here>, long finish with medium+ tannins and medium acidity.

Mostly Bordeaux dinner (Eddie V's - Tysons Corner, VA): Intense nose displaying intense black fruit, noticeable oak, chocolate, coffee ice cream and earth. Excellent concentration, packed concentrated black fruit, medium acidity, medium mineral, strong slightly dry tannins and a long intense black fruit driven finish with a bit of heat at the end. This is a Rioja in steroid.

Kleur: Robijnrood. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 14 + Smaak / Afdronk: 19 + Algemeen / potentieel: 9 = 97/100
Color: Ruby red Aroma / bouquet: Still remarkably closed at this stage, even after 24 hours! aeration). Dark fruit, mint, soft sweet licorice (Kokindjes). Taste / Finish: A seriously concentrated wine with a sublime balance. Pleasant, fresh and juicy acidity, beautifully matured and integrated tannins. The wine is 17 years old but is seriously fresh, youthful and vital, with no trace of aging in color, bouquet or taste. Beautifully integrated, subtle use of wood. General / potential: Great wine with a long future ahead of it. 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 14 + Taste / Finish: 19 + Overall / potential: 9 = 97/100

Big, oaky, one-dimensional - - somewhat disappointing/expected more, especially at $180 price point. Still a good wine and is quite young; suspect can age much longer, but not sure if overt oakiness will ever fully resolve. (93-94)(Aug. 13, Milford, MI)

Amazing wine...feels like a mouthful of heaven. Tannins are smooth and well integrated. It is actually perfect drinking right now. Going to wait a few years on the 2006 and 2010.

Wow! Still quite young and compact, seems not to have fully opened up yet. Dark color, with hints of black still. Black fruits, cedar, spice, earth, smoke in the nose. Rich flavors with tobacco, dark fruit, spice, vanilla and more. It was delicious with the low&slow bbq-ed beef cheeks, but I will wait for some more years before I open the next bottle.

A little bit disappointed, I expected more, too concentrated, not balanced, maybe too young . I'm not sure where the journey will end. Ripe fruits with smooth tannins. Long finish. Not typical Rioja. 94

Still a beast. Shows ripe black/red fruit, black ink and pencil lead along with some balsamic notes. This is still needs plenty of time to unwind all its potential, as it's still tannic and powerful but with a tremendous structure to hold for the long run.

100 RP Points plus some extra's (@ Bottles): A few years ago this wine presented itself in a great way, but tonight’s bottle is disappointing. The wine must be in a dumb phase now. There are dark fruits, beautiful oak and smoke, but also green impressions. There is firm acidity and the tannin is a bit harsh. Still a great wine, but it might be wise to wait until 2018 at least, or probably even better 2020+. 93 for tonight.

Tasting of 100PP wines (Restaurant Bottles, Sas van Gent): Interesting mixed presentation: combining old- and new world characrteristics. Generous use of oak, clear acidic presence, bright cherry and also some prune-pie nuances. Very good wine, but clearly outshined by its predecessor.

What a fantastic bottle of wine. Intoxicating nose of smoke, earth, massive sweet dark berries. Palate was liquified silk, great balance tannins perfectly integrated. Incredibly long finish.
Second day
This wine tightened up on the nose and palate, tannins very present. Still has a great nose with more of a meaty note coming through with lots of dark fruit. I believe this will be a long lived wine. Drinking extremely well now, but will reward further cellaring.
SS 98+pts.

Bordeaux Dinner (Restaurant van de Kaart Amsterdam): Incredibly powerful and concentrated. Dark over-ripe fruits, cake, liquorice (drop), coffee, spices, abundance of wood. But.. not my style, over-concentrated. I find it disappointing, maybe need to wait some time?

Tasting event with Artadi's Juan Carlos Lopez de Lacalle (Monvinic (Barcelona)): Opened for 2 hours ( not decanted). Medium to dark cherry color. A bit shy nose: coal, cinnamon, fruit liquor, with more time in glass shows coffee and more fruit. Feels like service temperature it's a bit high. Juan Carlos mentions that the wine probably should have been opened with more time and that he finds it's just a bit muted.,, so we move on and tasted it on palate...and there comes the show... Amazing: Very expressive, rounded, just barely some hard edges, excellent balance, mouth coating, surrounds all palate, fruity, medium acidity. Finish is extremely, insultingly long and ethernal, lasts for more than 2 minutes. I was very impressed by the power under control, the elegance, intensity, the palate feeling of a wine and for that seamless finish. I am happy to had the chance to taste this wine, and specially in a tasting session lead by its creator. As noted below, enourmous and fabulous are some adjectives that fully fit with this masterpiece. A truly unforgettable wine. (96-98)

Too early, but delicious. Decanted for 5 hours. Excellent nose and has all of the elements to be a spectacular wine at some point down the road. Resist opening this now, it is too early even with an extended decant. I have a few mags left, and they will not be opened for at least 15 more years.

Artadi tasting. The son of the producer came over to join us. (@ WB): Enormous! Fabulous! This is close to perfection! Full bodied, complex, luxurious. Full bodied and elegant and complex. Firm tannin and beautiful bitterness. Drink it now and you will be extremely impressed. Drink it 5 or 10 years from now and you will be flabbergasted what a great wine this (still) is.

Occasional tasting group: Wines with 100 Parker Points. (@ L in Z): I was enjoying this wine too much to make very specific notes. The bouquet was overwhelming. On the palate a full bodied wine in a beautiful balance. Fruits, pine trees, herbs. Youthful and an enormous future. Everything in its place. So beautiful already after double decanting it 5 hours before drinking. It is hard not scoring this wine a 100 points. So 99. Then there is 1 point left for the future.
