Ruby. Cherry, plum, some earthiness to it. High tannins, high acidity. Went great with lasagna and pizza, but needs food at this stage of it's life. Medium finish.

13.5% alcohol; Tri-Vin Imports, New Rochelle, New York; medium to heavy weight foil; composite cork, maximum of 2 mm wine seepage, cork aroma of sour cherries, rye bread; medium to long legs, very dark red; opened, oxygenation hastened via Vinturi, tasted 30 minutes later at room temperature -- 23 degrees C; nose of sour cherries, alcohol, citrus; medium to full bodied, fruit and alcohol forward, sour/sweet cherries and cassis, wood surround, minerals in the background; medium finish; sweetness, well integrated, lasts to the very end; cries out for good quality beef steak, charcoal or gas grilled, smoked with pecan or mesquite; this wine, from Basilicata in southernmost mainland Italy, is very different from the more northerly Italian wines we're accustomed to; it could grow on you fast

Very tasty immediately after opening, but got better as it aerated. Strong notes of black raspberry, cherry, minerality, graphite, and vanilla cake.
Wine was medium bodied, and acidity was medium but also restrained to where none of us felt like we were getting heartburn. This was very enjoyable and has aging potential for up to 5-10 years I’d say. Went extremely well with authentic Italian food, and a good value even at the $20 I paid.

Updated - tried this wine again. It is not good. Both on the nose and palette it is skunky. What decent flavors it may have are masked by the off putting nose and bad skunk.
Italian table wine. Better with food. A bit skunky and a little acidic on the back end. Tangy berries. Not on the repeat list.

Good. This PnP is already in a nice place, though to be sure, it's a simple table wine that's well grown, transparent and certainly food friendly. Medium bodied, dry, integrated, just-ripe tannins, avg complexity and length. This is an ideal bistro wine as I find just enough freshness and acidity to complement my meal without overwhelming it in any way. Solid daily @ ~ $15. The 13,5% abv is well integrated. Easily highly recommended, drink now thru 2029.
Another sub-$15 wine from Costco. Here, notes of black and purple fruit bramble lead the way, followed by hints of char and volcanic soil, oak and vanilla. Dash of raspberry on the back palate as the wine opens up. Pleasant enough weeknight food wine, 88-90.

Drank over a few nights. PnP on night one meant some grip from the finish. Not overbearing though and only noticeable w/o a mouthful of food. Dusty tannins gone on succeeding nights. Fresh with those distinctive volcanic Aglianico flavors & aromas. Very fun & perfect weeknight red for Italian dishes. Just $14 at Costco. 13.5% alc.

Nose: warm earth. Palate: warm grape skin, dried unsweetened red currants, ripe raisin; mildly rough and sandy tannins that need to be sought out and dissipate quickly; bright acidity lifts the palate and keeps the oxidized fruit fresh.

medium dark ruby appearance. Delicate to faint nose of alcohol. Nice soft and full palate. Fruit dominant almost a touch of sweetness at the front, with a real zesty tannic zing at the back palate. Acid and oak subdued. Very interesting and enjoyable.

Casual Saturday Tastings (Northern Chicago 'burbs): Stand up tasting. Fresh and macerated dark berries, this comes across as savory and meaty with faint sweet hints. Certainly firm. Better to cellar another year or three.

More than a little tightly wound at this point. Bramble and black fruit on entry, clamping down pretty quickly and pretty hard in the finish. I appreciate the grip but this needs a little time to allow fruit to really shine.
Edit on 4/8; half of the contents sat overnight in the bottle on the counter with a stopper. The blackberries and twigs are really appealing; still plenty of structure. I’d opt for a lengthy decant if consuming a bottle in the rest of this year. A double-decant overnight would do it no harm. Or hold a year or two. Pretty serious stuff at this price.

Nose muted. No VA, which I sometimes find on Aglianico.
Upon PnP it seemed like it had more fruit than i wanted. Then after a few mins in the decanter it became more lean. It seems volcanic. But that may be my imagination. Some tar and pleasant bitterness (ammaro).
But It is mostly a textural play: liquid mouth (not viscus) with an ashy, dusty finish. The mouth is almost like a restrained Toro. Tannic but not tongue-seizing (like Neb or Sag can be).
No flaws. Enjoyable, interesting and easy to drink. Good QPR at $12G. Maybe get another. 90+pts. I do like Aglianico from Vulture.

FDN at Dante's. P&P, can definitely use a splash decant at the least. Very Aglianico- woodsy, rough textured tannin that only allow a peep of the rustic acidity to shine through at this point. Plums and black cherries with tannic pepper, toasted wood, and spice on the initial pours but opens up with more aromatic wild berries and mulled spices as you work your way through la bottiglia. Also typical of Aglianico, needs food and cold weather to get the "a-ha" moment. Great value, $15 after tax (Last Bottle, FS on 6+), QPR for days. B+ (88) eval.

PnD let air for 30mins.
Crunchy cherry mushroom rich and zippy. Love it. Wish I could buy a case in Canada. Ridiculous value at Costco. WS nailed this one.
