Decanted for one hour: blackberry, plum, oak and a little spice on the palate. Fine tannins on the tongue and a long finish that covers the mouth. A solid Rioja.

Robe rubis claire. Nez d'épices, cerises et bois. Bouche boisé, moyenne longue, les tanins sont très fins presque inexistant. La finale est amère et accroche légèrement. Moins bon que le Contino du même millésime.

Dark ruby color, aromas of oak, menthol, baking spices, and currants, this has notes of sour cherries, cassis, blackberry liqueur, and a hint of orange peel flowing across the palate to a long, mouth coating finish. Bold, full-bodied, dry, with firm tannins. This wine is still young and needs a little more time, but is very enjoyable now.

Note is for 2nd half of the bottle, two days after opening. Dark crimson color. Cherry as well as dark fruit on the palate. Not getting the tobacco or leather that others have. Still somewhat tannic, to be expected at less than five years, but highly drinkable, and good with snacks, in this case smoked Gouda from the cheese board. Lingering finish is attractive and mouth coating.

Opening day, dry tannins pull against subtle red fruit on a tug of war. Second day after vacuum and frig, same. Third day better balanced but still just ok, fruit emerged but tannins still overly grippy. Might improve with time?

A bit closed even with a 2 hour decant. I’m not getting the complexity that others have gotten. American oak present but not overbearing. Tannins coat my upper palate. This needs time to improve drinkability.

Crimson-black; cherry cough drops, blackberries, prunes, tar, tobacco, leather; rustic berry, dried cherry, licorice, slightly herbal, medium-full body, tangy acidity, good structure, firm tannins, good finish Decanted 1 hr. Fragrant nose of cherries, tobacco and spice with good body, heat and tannins. Young, rustic and closed, became creamier and silkier with aeration.

Very nice, but a slight step down from the last vintage I tried (2017) at this stage. Of my few experiences with Muga, this was definitely the most "old-school" style, with cedary American oak at the fore, burying dark, almost-dried fruits, spiced plum, dried raspberry and whatnot. In previous vintages I found the fruit had a "fresher" quality, a little modern for Rioja, and was much less buried by oak.
The palate is also more "rustic" than before, with very dusty, leathery tannin and elevated acidity. Much, much more enjoyable with food this time around. Still a complex and tasty profile, but it needs time, or a good pairing.

Still a bit early, now entering its development phase. Still some rusticity in the aroma and flavor profile, but air and food seemed to help this along. Needs more time, but this has the ingredients and pedigree to be great with additional time.

TWS Rioja tasting (Chelsea Old Town Hall): This guy is really oaky. Spiced cherry cough sweets, eucalyptus and a herbal note I didn't love. Cherry and strawberry on the palate and overall it's quite simple.

Oak, vanilla, tobacco, and raspberry. Out of the bottle it’s very young and alcohol forward but after we decanted for about 1.5 hours it settled down. Can drink now if you decant but recommend holding for 3+ years.

Classic Rioja. Ripe fruit, oak, bounty, vanilla. Fresh and lively. A smooth mouthfeel with fine grained tannins. Drinking well now but can easily be stored for several years.

Aromatic and fragrant bouquet of smoked vanilla, ripe cherries, star anise and clove on the nose and palate. Needed a bit of time in the decanter for the vanilla oak to disappear and revealed a balanced and complex mid-palate. Spiced fruits and smooth texture from entry to a clean and lingering finish. Ready to drink with some decanting, otherwise let this age for the next 3-5 years for the phenolics to develop more. 91-93 pts.

Blood red. Tobacco, dark fruit, leather, wood, some smoke. Raspberry, cherry. Alcohol. Fruity, soft, rich mouthfeel. Medium length. Stingy at first, but mellows out with some air. This is good! (The missus got buzzy and sleepy after 1 glass, so it kinda ruined the action movie, but I'll forgive it.) Will buy again

A half bottle. Youthful, obviously, distinct raspberry notes to the fruit. A bit sour at this stage, no doubt from this being a very young wine. It just needs more time. Hold for a couple of years.

Muga reserva 2019: 70% tinto del pais (tempranillo), 20% garnacha, graciano (bovale) 5%, mazuelo 5%. Trad vinifikasjon på eik, maserasjon 15 dager. Tett mørk frukt, plommer, spice, anis, litt karamell, rioja-eik. Nydelig strukturert vin på smak, smaken er godt over 90 poeng. Smaken er best, syns karamellen er litt skjemmende. Men totalt sett flott vin for kjelleren

Juicebomb in its prime youth. Wouldn't hurt to lay it down for at least another 5 years but it seems old enough to hang.

So much better than last May. All sour fruit notes gone now a nice, classic mix of redcurrant, coffee grounds and mocha. Very nice.
