Enjoyable but definitely at the end of its life. Was expecting a bit more. With this caliber of wine, I was surprised at the lack of structure/backbone. The '06 Marcassin Vyd showed better.

Honestly I don't remember too much about the character of this wine. I do remember this being a wine with decent balance. Definitely drinking well, but overshadowed by the CIX and Peter Michael (both of which were years more youthful). Still quite enjoyable.

Although not quite what I expected fom a Marcassin, in a way a pleasant surprise. Very mineral driven, with good acidity, and not the usual almost explosive caramel/toasty notes I expected. Certainly a wine a Burgundy lover would like quite a bit

Aromas of baked apple, caramel, minerals, mild and slightly toasted oak. Similar flavors, along with hints of butter. Rich and fairly intense fruit. Very soft and velvety in the mouth. Decent acid, but modest at this point. Medium-long finish. Haven't had this wine previously, but I'm guessing it may be just on the decline of a better drinking plateau.

Not unlike the last time I had this, the wine had an odd nose to begin with. Flint, lychee, peachy nose. The palate had a notion of slate but it was unctuous at the same time. This begs for more time in the bottle. The last time I had it the wine transformed after an hour. In this setting, it did not have a chance to ;)

Opened for two hours, but not decanted. Rich, buttered popcorn with a smokiness on the finish. Nice acidity, but I think the brighter fruit flavors are beginning to fade. An okay showing for this wine. I say drink up.

About three years in between bottles, I believe that age has helped the wine. What struck me about the wine last night over dinner was that it showed acidity, quite a bit to me. The effect of the acid kept the wine from coming off flabby. There is plenty of fruit here, and still some oak hanging around, which seemed to fade off some with air. When first opened, was like butterscotch and toasted vanilla, less so with the air. Was best after that aeration and of course, served at the right temp, so keeping some chill on it allowed it to show best, IMO. Overall, not my style of preferred chard, as I am well now down a road where acidity/cut, gentler weight is what I prefer.

This might be the most interesting chard ive had to date. The nose is like a lychee martinis. The palate is viscous with lychee notes, oak and even some rhubarb. What a crazy amazing wine. After an hour, there was a dramatic and sudden change. Two glasses had been left half full by two of the guests and I smelled one because I had found the wine so fascinating. It smelled like a Ramey or Aubert might. The palate had changed to that of a "normal" chardonnay as well with some stone fruits, nice acidity and some oak. By far, the biggest WTF moment of my life. I handed the glass to my buddy who was the other routine wine drinker on the table and he looked for 10 minutes or so for the hidden bottle of chard he was convinced I had somewhere on the table. It was stupefying. The funny thing is, we both liked it better before the magic trick.

mostly consistent with my previous note. love the xpression of fruit and oak character in this wine. fruits are big and lush, but in this bottle lacking just a bit of acid for balance. the mineral is there but a little more hidden than i remember. the oak character is really nice - butterscotch, vanilla and coconut. no real heat either. finish is rather lush and long.

HDH auction tasting at Tru (Chicago, IL): Everything I don't like about chardonnay. Ripe and flabby nose, with some notes of stewed stone fruits, and perhaps a hint of citrus peel. On the palate, this is quite oily in texture, and seems kind of slurpable. No acidic grip makes this even more prevalent. A little bit of sweetness. Fat and cloying.

I liked this bottle more so than in the past; it was thick and chewy, rich and full bodied with toasted honey lemon- lime and sweet bing cherry notes; the soft, oily texture and nice acidity makes it especially pleasing; it`s a style that is either liked or disliked.

Popped and poured. This clearly needed a little air to come together. After about 30 minutes, soft, velvety, reserved. Some oak but a second player to white peaches and butterscotch. Very delicate and decadent. Fabulous. Drink now through 2015.

A bit steely, stony, with lemon zest as a prominent flavor. Extremely focused and acidic, providing a good deal of minerality. I love how it finishes with slightly sweet flavoring to keep the wine from being overly austere.
This wine is in need of a lot of air to show itself. I poured a glass and re-corked for one day. Drinking beautifully on day 2.

A marvelous wine, baby! Caramelized pear, albiet typical with most Marcassin chardonnays, lasted from start to finish. Tropical fruit with just a touch of vanilla (oak). Perfectly balanced and full bodied. Easily one of the best CA chards I've ever had. It might get better with some age but I recommend you pull one out of the cellar to drink now. We drank two bottles tonight and they both showed very, very well.

Had the Marcassin at a Chardonnay blind tasting along with 7 other wines. Unfortunately, this was the most disappointing wine of the evening. It actually came in last in the blind taste and was even beat out by a Chardonnay for $6.99. I actually expected more from a Turley cult wine. The wine didn't seem corked, but will try at least one more 2006. However, if the wine was not corked, this is one of the worst values in California Chardonnay @ $75 a bottle. I remember a blah nose, metallic taste and too much oak.

Smooth long finish with some pear fruit, lemon curd and some oak notes. Outstanding.

NOSE: oaky; vanilla; light; not rich TASTE: kinda flat; very minerally; austere; a bit of heat. Once revealed, I was quite surprised, as I would have expected a much better performance from this producer. At best, this was consumed way too young; at worst, this is a boring CA Chardonnay.

Toasty oak, pear and a silky but heavier sided texture. Seemed to lack acidity to me and was too glycerine-like for me. We didn't decant this and I was unable to retaste but my overall impressions of the wine was "meh". i know this producer is well revered by many but at this point in my own white wine preference, I'll take a chablis or sec Vouvray instead.

One of the best california chards I have tasted. Moderate buttery oak, but here it isn't overpowering, and comes off as a component. Strong acid backbone, along with a great level of minerality, really balances it all out. Superb.

NOSE: oaky; vanilla; light; not rich
TASTE: kinda flat; very minerally; austere; a bit of heat.

Probably should have been consumed with seafood but I had it in the afternoon, just for the heck of it. Very nicely done but perhaps a bit too oaky for my taste. I prefer my chardonnay with a crispness that was not apparent.

The finest California chardonnay I have ever had. Lychee and just a hint of oak. Unctuous mouthfeel, yet not at all heavy. Perfect complement to lobster bisque.

One of the best california chards I have tasted. Moderate buttery oak, but here it isn't overpowering, and comes off as a component. Strong acid backbone, along with a great level of minerality, really balances it all out. Superb.

Really nice acidity on this wine. Went great with lobster.
