  • Glossy dark and extracted Chambolle but at the same time managed to keep everything in check and not overdone. This reminded me of Vogue, albeit with a little less flamboyance. Lush fruit and serious structure, yea this will last for a while yet.

  • Double-blind. Round and fine tannins with good structure, clearly still in upswing. Plenty of attractive spices leaded me to Vosne. Thought this was a ‘02 Malconsorts or Suchots from a good producer. An impressive mini-Musigny, co-WOTN with ‘93 Guigal La Moulin.

  • Jason's birthday: Richer and fruitier than the Grivot preceding it. 05 Burgundy 1er Cru?

  • Jason's birthday: Sweet dark blueberry fruit that made me think ‘09 MSD, the vibrancy made it clear this was from a warm vintage. A more stern Chambolle that became more tannic and closed with air, opposite of the last time I had this when it took time to become open. From these two data points, seems like this wine is still in its infancy.

  • Initially a bit lean, so I thought this must be from ‘01 vintage. But this continued to improve over the 3 hours dinner, adding weight and complexity with good mouthfeel. WOTN for me. Over the last 2 months, I have tasted ‘93, ‘02, ‘03, and ‘09 of this Cuvée on separate occasions. ‘02 and ‘09 were equal currently while ‘09 had potential to be just as good as ‘93 one day.

  • Burgundy at least 20 years old: Very interesting to drink the 2002 and 2003 blind next to each other with the only hint given that these were consecutive vintages. I clearly liked the 2003 better in the beginning as it was showing better concentration and depth, without showing any of the overripe or burned characteristics one can often find in 2003. The 2002 was elegant but seemed a bit more diluted. Was hence thinking this must be a cooler and wetter late 90s vintage. While the 02 did not move much with more air in my eyes, the 03 seemed to pick up some of those very dark notes from the hot summer, but perhaps it was just knowing what was in the glass after the wines were revealed.

  • Drank side by side with the 03. this was quite reserved at first and the 03 outshone it at first. however, it really unfurled after 90mim. amazing. a great burg

  • Dinner with Singapore CT friends: Tasted together with the ‘03, was revealed to be a pair of adjacent vintages from the same producer and plot. Had this before but that bottle wasn’t as pristine as this. Lovely restrained dark fruit, slight coffee note, seamless and structured at the same time. Unlike the others I preferred this to the ‘03 from the start for its understated manner. Became more expressive with air and was the unanimous WOTN. Unlike the 1999 from a couple of weeks ago which was tight still, this is ready for primetime.

  • Best bottle thus far out of a case of 12. Glorious, ethereal, long. This one lingers. Great red burg

  • About 2+ hours of air in bottle. 3rd time trying this. Drank in Grassl Cru.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.

On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), silky medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of glossy black cherries, dark red cherries, smoke, crunchy stones minerality, savoury forest floor earth. Very long finish.
Very good quality. Drinking at peak already that feels like it will hold for a good 5-6 years at least.

  • Dinner at Tasty Loong: Apparently this showed signs of seepage so probably not the most pristine bottle. Some VA on the nose, it had an elegant texture but also a strange mixture of nail polish, alcohol and stewed fruits notes, of which the latter made me guess a 2003. Became a little prettier and more Chambolle-like after a few hours.

  • Lunch at Nicolas / Drinks at Joyce's (Nicolas Restaurant, Teck Lim Street, Singapore): A Jekyll and Hyde of a wine. A little tight, funky and unpleasant at first, it then opened up very nicely in the glass over the next hour or so. It had a super funky nose at first pour. Socks and peanuts, soil and meat, with some dark fruit trailing along behind. Not very pleasant. With time though, sweeter, plusher fruit started showing, along with bits of peppery spice and some rose petal aromas coming out as well. Similarly. the palate was a bit tight on first pour. Unlike the nose though, this did not open up quite as dramatically. It was powerful for Chambolle, with a mouthful of fine tannins and decent tannins forming a backdrop for rather muscular flavours of dark cherries, all laced with earth and mineral trailing away into a neat but rather tight finish. All in all, a decently good wine - nicely put together, quite plush, but certainly idiosyncratic and still not altogether giving at this point. Very different from the tight but more silky and elegant bottle I remembered from 7-8 years ago.

  • An Afternoon Tasting Burgundy (Chevalier Fine Wines - Elmhurst IL): Exciting aromas of mature red cherry, savory spice, faint meatiness, black truffles, and earth. Palate is similar but much more earth-driven and less bright. 93 point nose, 88 point palate. Drink up.

  • Lovely nose: much more advanced than the 99 with lifted flower and secondary aromas soaring from the glass alongside fruit on a redder register that includes raspberries. Full and palate-staining, with gorgeous stone-fruit flavours on the finish which is also grippy with firm but fine tannins and a streak of acidity. Again, terrific with great balance and with years ahead of it. I particularly like the stony character of the fruit which is very of the vintage.

  • 1st of 12, opened an hour, level slightly low cork worked - dark translucent ruby, hint of brown on rim; sous bois, stone, slightly stewed plum and red cherry, fresh rather than rich; medium, quite long and persistent, intense, big for an 02, slightly edgy, unresolved tannin underpinning slightly sour fruit, not quite come together but attractive, should improve when it's fully mature in 5 or so years. Currently F (17.5).

  • Gave this to a close friend to celebrate his birthday. Alone. During the Covid lockdown. He opened it on his birthday night, poured a glass for himself and rang me up to ask “what is this sh1t”? Having had several bottles from a 12 pack, all of which were either good or great, I assumed that it was because he had the tastebuds of a yak. Drank it over two nights (it was opened the night before). First night, it had a stewed, plummy aspect. Almost reminiscent of a flabby merlot. Heat damaged? Unlikely, since other bottles in the case seemed fine if a bit developed. On the second night, the wine improved. The stewed aspect receded and though the plums remained, it added some red cherry notes. File this under a bad bottle. Hopefully my remaining bottles will show better. Not rated.

  • About 2+ hours of air in bottle already. Could be some bottle variation as this seems a bit more mature than the other tasting notes here suggest.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of forest floor earth, smoke, stony minerality, dark red cherries. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), silky medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of black cherries, dark red cherries, smoke, crunchy stones minerality, savoury forest floor earth. Very long finish.
Very good quality. Complex, well integrated, with glossy dark cherry fruit. Seems to be drinking well now already, though it could still go for another few more years.

  • It has notes of meat, musk, earth and mineral. It is a little funky and quite lean and hard at first. It does sweeten up, showing some cherry fruits but doesn't have a lot of flesh on its minerally bones. The finish is stony and length is good. I suspect it needs another decade to really blossom.

  • Some what done in the old traditional style that needs extra ageing to soften. Today this is still rather unforgiving, muscular with dark fruits, firm structure and tannins, toasty with lots of new oak that seems to dominate the palate. Not a style that I appreciate.

  • A glorious bottle. Some soy and star anise, but still a lot of lovely red fruit. Good length. Tannins still present. Should hold well over the next 10 years or so.

  • Delicious, but could use 5 years, I think. Sadly, my only bottle

  • Very good, but very closed. Needed a lot of swirling to coax something out. Too young?

  • This bottle was in a great spot. The exuberant fruit of 2002 in the dark cherry register. Tannins are pretty much integrated. Delicious!

  • Classy and perfumed Pinot Noir aromas with spices and new oak, which forms a seductive, almost decadent wine. Light and lean in the mouth, but the intensity and length is impressive.

  • Egentlig en nedtur og ikke verdt pengene.
Minner egentlig litt om en 04 "Marihønevin"

  • Birthday present from wife. Enjoyed after Sukiyaki dinner at Jess's. Tight on pop and pour. Only opened up after ~45 mins of air time in the decanter.
Appearance is clear, beautiful pale bright ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with a bouquet of perfumed flowers, earth, forest floor, red cherry, sweet spice, and slight mushrooms. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, silky medium- tannins, medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of red cherry mixed with some dark cherries, ripe strawberry, sweet spice, earth, and slight mushrooms. Can feel the depth of the old vines. Long finish.
Very good quality. The floral nose was really lovely, and the palate very elegant, but not really matching up to the nose in terms of intensity. In drinking window now. Enjoy over the next 3-4 years.

  • Drinking wonderful. Tannins are mellowed and some dark cherry fruit hanging on. Starting to go earthy and will age nicely for 5-10 years

  • Popped and poured. Lovely nose of aromatic cherries accented by some savory elements of earth, stems and tar. Supple palate with ripe fruit, spicy tannins and a wonderful mouth feel. This is drinking really nicely tonight.

  • Decanted for 3 hours. Medium color with a clear rim. Initial aromatic note is of savory herbs but right behind that the ripe black fruit and sweet vanilla dominate the nose. Ripe, sweet and concentrated on entry with flavors of black fruit, cola and anise. Quite forward with nice freshness and well resolved tannins, this is "open for business" and a no-excuses, delicious Chambolle. Drink now through 2020.

  • Birthday Dinner 2014 (Saint Pierre, Quayside Isle): Very pretty. This had some 2.5 hours in the decanter before service, and it really seemed to have benefitted from it – the wine showed no sign whatsoever of the rather stubborn monolithic feel that quite a few 2002s still have. It had a wonderful nose from first pour, with a touch of funky sous bois framing wonderfully fragrant aromas of spice and sweet dark cherries and layers of perfumed flowers. A rich, heady bouquet, almost at the edge of being liquered. Beautiful, seductive stuff. The lovely palate was classic Chambolle, with finely silken tannins beginning to soften and melt into the wine, and lovely fresh acidity bringing into relief beautifully detailed flavours of cherries and wild berries. All this was seasoned with pinpricks of spice and a gentle minerality as the wine glided into a lovely, elegant finish with a little with a little floral kiss. This was a nicely put together wine - depth, breadth and balance all there, but what I really liked most was the beautiful silky elegance that just screamed Chambolle. Lovely stuff, drinking wonderfully with a lengthy decenting.

  • Quite heavily reduced at first but breathed up nicely. There were notes of camphor, pomegranate, black cherries and earth on the nose. It was dense and detailed in the mouth with sweet fleshy fruit shrink wrapped tightly against a geological frame. It had a pleasant floral nuance and was very direct on the finish with excellent length. Still far too young but enjoyable none the less.

  • Fruity and quite oaky. Some spiciness. Moderate length.

  • Noticeable ullage. Cork was soaked with almost 1/8" mold on top. Seemed weird at first but opened up to brawny, black fruits, clay, and spice/mint aromas. Complex, tart, low tannins, this was very ripe, short-medium length. Though others liked it (a lot in some cases) still not convinced it was representative.

  • Popped and poured, consuming over a 2 hour period. This wine has a nose like a Barolo, with dried cherries, flowers, tar and some tea notes. Very odd for CM....the palate is more Musigny than CM, with very rich, sappy and concentrated flavors coating the tongue. There is a nice full velvety mouthfeel, moderate tannins and a touch of heaviness. The flavors are very old world, with no bright fruit notes and no sweetness to speak of, with a long lingering finish. Really well done, this should evolve positively for several years.
